this place has reviews that run the gamut between great and fair so i went into my happy hour experience knowing it could be either, or somewhere in between. as it turns out, for a rainy sunday afternoon, house margaritas and chips and salsa were totally fine. we didn't eat anything else so i cannot comment on the quality of food offered the menu. the service we received was totally fine and welcoming. the salsas provided ranged from very mild to a scorched habanero that i gravitated to: the guacamole was tasty as well. at $7 for a happy hour house margarita, you really can't complain. it was interesting to see that the bar area was completely full on a sunday afternoon and by the time we left a little after 5pm, many of the tables were occupied. it's in walking distance to many areas in the north admiral neighborhood and obviously a place people go to sit and enjoy themselves ahead of the coming work week. i have no complaints about our visit. good drinks and snacks at reasonable prices with tea sable service.

I came around 5 pm with my husband to have dinner on the recommendation of my friend. The parking lot is behind the store. When I entered the store, the staff guided us to the table. We liked the lighting in the store and interior. I ordered Chile Relleno and Pork Taco recommended by my friend. Also, salsa trio w chips and beers. We liked the taste of Chile Relleno but not tacos. The tacos were bland and not delicious. We'd like to try other menus next time.

For starters we went during happy hour and apparently their menu that is on the table with the description of food is not accurate?! The waitress when asked why our food didn't include the additional toppings LISTED IN THE HAPPY HOUR MENU she said oh you must have ordered the happy hour ones those don't come with it. She also didn't know the beers on tap either which is no big deal but clear she didn't much of the menu. Overall the food was fine nothing special but overall a disappointment. I really wanted to like this place. But the salsas were good and the margaritas were delish!

Best Happy Hour in town. 7 days a week, 3-5pm. Great bar, excellent service, absolute must.

It's a neighborhood restaurant with a creative and upscale flavor. Decor is carefully selected and interesting to look at, and the seating is cozy and open at the same time and pretty comfortable. I went on a Monday night and it was busy but far from packed - was able to sit down right away. We got the guacamole to start with which was good but a bit small - I wish it had also come with at least one salsa for the price and chip amount. I got the tostadas with carne asada which was colorful, substantive and delicious. Also got the donkey's delight margarita which I keep thinking about and which I had right now!

TLDR: Little Donkey is a Modern Bar and Restaurant that has everything you would expect from that title; and this is a great thing!!! I walked in with the negative reviews at the top of my mind and was SHOCKED when I saw a busy packed modern restaurant and everyone happy and having a good time. The two cocktails I tried were inspired, well balanced and while not outstanding very very very good. The nachos were hot, made with care, delicious and good enough for 2 people. Listen, if you don't have 15 bucks to spend on a cocktail, want a place to take children to, or feel uncomfortable in a modern dimly lit setting. I suggest you Google where the nearest Azteca restaurant is and stay away from people who enjoy this sort of vibe. Little Donkey IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION! I'll 100000% be back here.

Had dinner and drinks here on Wednesday at around 6 and it was great! First, the inside of the restaurant is SO cool! The light fixtures literally had me mesmerized (you just have to see them for yourself!). Second, the food was bomb! We tried a couple of things, some tacos, a burrito, and enchiladas all being so yummy. Interesting selection of drinks but they were on the strong side. Our waitress was so nice and attentive, while overall service was perfect!

It's a cute place with a parking lot in the back. The drinks were decent. The food was just ok. We ordered blistered carrots, pastor nachos, chile relleno, and churros. The carrots were good. The pastor on the nachos was dry like jerky. About the chile relleno, it came with black beans on the side and it was watery. The churros were good. I may go back for their happy hour.

The decor is really fun. Kind of a mid century modern vibe. The food was...edible. Everything tasted kind of pre made. Lots of cheese. Lots of grease. Don't expect authentic Mexican cooking. I got the Cantarita and it was gross.

The pasta was amazingly tender, cooked to perfection. There was a lot of flavor and depth in each bite, more of a deliciously earthy mac and cheese as opposed to maybe a velveety smooth creamy type. The Jalapeño poppers were amazing. I've always associated poppers with a crusted fried topping but these were bold, going in a different direction. The jalapeños were fresh and soft to the bite, easy to cut with the side of a fork, loaded with components such as cashew cheddar, crema, avocado sauce, sweet pickled jalapeños, pico and cabbage slaw - all coming together perfectly in each bite (i'm utilizing their menu description) For the main dish, Sandi ordered the "Smokey Barbecue" which came with a complimentary side of chips and I ordered the Portobello French Dip and upgraded my side to a Side Salad for an extra $4. Each dish, every bite was delicious, even something as simple as a side salad was elevated with their Ginger Tahini dresing. Dipping the Portobello Sandwich into the Dip was just .. magical. We also both opted for the same drink, South Park Mule. The drink was legit, in addition to tasting great, I actually had a buzz as well .. indicating to me they didn't skimp on the adult juice Their food is amazing across the board and there's so much more to go back and try! Definitely worth the trip!!

My friend very much enjoyed the tofu bahn you. Although we all really enjoyed the nachos, they were not what I expected. I expected cashew cheese sauce that was cheesy tasting. It was very different from that but tasted great. The lentils and tomatos were very well seasoned. They are not spicy but are yummy. The kale salad was good but I have had a better vegan one in SF. The service was friendly but slow. On the plus side, there was zero pressure to rush. I look forward to going here again when I am next in town. I want to try the mac and cheese and one of their pretty cocktails.

I got a kick out of both Star Wars and SpongeBob being played on the bar TVs while we decided on our order! Loved the chill vibe here. We ordered pickle chips to split-these were INCREDIBLE-they came with ranch, and they were crispy and chewy. They were addicting, and not greasy, oily or heavy in the batter they used to fry them. These managed to be both filling and light. Absolute win. I ordered an ABV free drink, True North. This was one of my favorite drinks I have ever had. I loved this combination of lime, ginger beer, hibiscus and the Pathfinder Hemp & Root. This was my first time trying this line of ABV free spirit, and I was blown away. True North was refreshing, not too sweet, bubbly and bright. We will definitely be coming back-there were lots of foods and cocktails we wanted to try.

You might have to wait for them to remember what they are selling, or flag them down for a check. If there were drink specials that made more sense, I could see a legitimate reason to spend time here drinking. This Goblin would pass on the food. I don't come here to eat. The food: expensive for what it is. Long ago dear reader, this Goblin worked in food service. He can spot "ready-made foods" from a mile away. This place leans more "eating to satiate", than "eating to satisfy", no matter how hard I fight my Goblin brain. Each meal, I come to terms with the sucker I am for eating a $27 omelette before tip. Herein lies our problem dear reader. Do I want a hummus plate for $12-15, that is essentially a disassembled and then reassembled menagerie of pre-made product on a plate? Or how about a cup of some mid-gumbo for $8? As a Goblin I have eaten many old soups out of a dirty cauldron, but Mid-Gumbo tastes like how Jack Harlow must feel waking up and telling himself he got blacker. Concerning the food (and Jack Harlow), it's about more than just lack of seasoning.
