I come down from Ventura to see "Shady", and his name couldn't be more ironic, because there's nothing shady about him or his work. He's been maintaining my 2005 Lexus SC430 and has saved me a boatload of money on repairs and maintenance over the years. He's respectful, friendly, and clearly takes pride in getting things right. My most recent service made the car run like it did when it was new. The engine is humming smoothly again, something I've honestly NEVER experienced after a repair or routine maintenance anywhere else and I've owned this car since 2007. And while the name S & M Automotive might make some people do a double take (hahaha), the only thing painful here is realizing how unnecessary other repair bills can be once you find a mechanic this good and dependable. The labor rate was fair, the communication was clear, and instead of pushing one expensive path, Danny took the time to explain different options for replacement parts and what made sense financially. I live in Woodland Hills, and Sharp's is in Oxnard, so this was not exactly around the corner for me. But after that first experience, I felt comfortable enough making the trip because it already felt worth it. After that, I came back with my own 2016 Chevy Volt for an A/C issue. Since that car does not have a traditional belt-driven compressor setup, I knew it was going to take more than generic trial-and-error diagnosis. Danny was patient, methodical, and clearly willing to think through a problem instead of just throwing parts at it. The issue ended up getting solved efficiently, which was a huge relief. One other thing that really stuck with me while I was there: multiple people from the neighborhood stopped by just to say hello to the team at Sharp's. That kind of thing says a lot. You can tell this is one of those local businesses that people genuinely trust and feel connected to. As he was getting it done, he got to taking the filter off. It was super tight and hard to remove. He had to use tongue pliers. When it finally came off.... we discovered an OEM filter....? Shouldn't the filter look a lot more cleaner and less used? Last time I had this done was about 2-3 months ago. Clearly the multiple times I've gone, they didn't replace the filter as I was told. Nearly $100 dollars for an unfinished job that could have potentially hurt my car. This is absolutely unacceptable and a straight up scam. I imagine they tightened it up so it would be hard to get to it or they never even touched it. Save your money and go somewhere with honor. I was thinking of going here for my brakes but I'm glad I dodged that bullet. So disappointed.
