The Limp Lizard Lounge, located in the heart of the Village of Liverpool, is a lively bar and grill with a down home selection of BBQ and other fixins' fresh off the grill. Unfortunately, its thoroughly dominated by a rough crew of hard charging bikers and biketts. Unlike Dinosaur BBQ, which strikes the right balance between biker atmosphere and normal, every day folks, Limp Lizard Lounge is completely over run with these rough and humble cats. I certainly don't mind a little biker ambiance. It can certainly add charm to a boring weekend meal. But after 15 minutes of shouting through the noise and waving smoke out of my face, I was ready to hightail it over to the 'other' well known BBQ establishment down in the city. And its hard to escape, given the small size of the deck and restaurant. Its too bad, since the food and location are excellent. Meals are reasonably priced and come with a generous portion of sides. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with cornbread and beans, and it was cooked just right. The jalapeno corn bread was particularly good. My fellow diners ordered pulled chicken quesadillas and a cuban sandwich, which they both raved about. Furthermore, the service was exceptionally good. The breadth of BBQ entrees witch LLL offers and the number of delicious sides make the menu rival that of Dinosaur and other highly regarded BBQ establishments. I may try the Limp Lizard Lounge on an afternoon or weeknight, but I certainly won't be returning on any weekend. That is, not until my next mid-life crisis. read more

The Ribs were nasty, pretty sure they came from the freezer section of walmart. "Prime Rib" sandwich lacked flavor but was edible. Both sides dishes were cold. Under no circumstances should this crap shack be compared to the Dinosaur. read more

Food is 5 stars. It's to be understood that with the slow cooking method of BBQ cooking that some items simple might be sold out. Although when I choose this location, service is extremely slow regardless of how busy or not the restaurant is. I know the restaurant business from working in them. I know things happen beyond people's control, but when the rest of the restaurant who ordered AFTER you received and finished their food before you receive yours.... That's a problem... It's truly something at this location. The Western Lights location is flawless the 7 or more times I've been there. That'll be my new go to location for BBQ. For St. Patrick's Day, the family and I decided to try Limp Lizards for the first time. We got there around 6:45ish and no one else was in the family section. We are a family of four; two adults and two children under the age of six. Unfortunately I either didn't hear our waitress's name or she didn't give it to us. I normally pay attention to this because I don't like to say, "hey" or "excuse me". I prefer to use their name. To start, for a place that states they're good for kids, y'all need to have some kind of paper for the kids to be entertained/draw on. I don't mind so much the restaurant not supplying the crayons, because I normally carry those in my purse for them. Though the waitress said she would bring us paper for them to draw on (I believe it was the paper she uses to write down her orders on) but she never brought anything for them. Second, it would be nice if she would have known the drink menu instead of her saying, "scan this and it'll tell you what we have on draft". Really?! It's St Patrick's Day for Pete's sake! Third, when we ordered the appetizer, she only brought 2 plates... for a family of four. Not happy about that, it's simple math. But whatever. Fourth, when I ordered the 3 way on creating my own dish, I requested for sweet potato fries. What I got was regular fries. Fifth, when I finished my ST Patty's beer, I wanted something else to drink. She explained how their root beer was on tap and how it was so good. I agreed. She later returned to tell me they were out. I then settled for water and lemon. Sixth, my husband asked for jalapeño cornbread and instead, he got what I assume is regular cornbread with hard pieces of something inside. Again, not happy about that. Seventh, when requesting for a To Go box, I asked for a second box for my fries so they wouldn't get soggy. That took me asking a second time for it because she forgot the two times prior coming to our table without it. Eighth, remember that root beer that I was never served because they were out? Well that didn't stop her from charging us for it. Ninth, not ONCE did she ask if we needed a refill or if my kids were okay on their drinks. They weren't, so I had to share my water with them too. As far as the food.. it wasn't bad, but we weren't impressed. Needless to say, I don't think we'll be returning. read more

Let me start by saying I live an hour away from the Syracuse area. The only BBQ place we knew about was Dinosaur BBQ. I first learned of Limp Lizard when I was working weddings at the Hayloft on the Arch in Vernon. They would cater some of the weddings. I tried their baked beans and pulled pork and have loved them ever since. They haven't been around for too long but they know how to smoke the good stuff. The owners are amazing people. So nice and down to earth. They have three locations in the Syracuse area. Last night when we went for dinner they had the Terry Mulhouser band. They have a Johnny Cash/Grateful Dead sound. The feel is more "biker"-esque but let's face it bikers are the coolest people. My SO loves the catfish dinner. Everything is good here. I've never been disappointed or had a bad experience. I honestly tell everyone they're better than Dinosaur BBQ. TRY IT. read more

I'm a die hard limp lizard lover I vouched for the north Syracuse one over everything but this location was not up to expected standards in my opinion. I felt like an after thought with my waitress and the food we received was under par between the cornbread needing to be chewed with water just to get it down and the burnt ends being so hard you could break a tooth. In my opinion if your looking for dinosaur bbq on a budget got to the north Syracuse cantina over this one you won't regret it better environment better people and all around better service in my opinion.‍ read more

Met up here with a few friends. We had a couple of beers at the bar. We then got seated and decided to order brisket and ribs which we shared. We all ordered 2 sides each. I had the beans and Mac & cheese. The beans were great. I was happy to see that they were on the menu as quite a few BBQ places lately do not have them. I liked the Mac & cheese also. Now on to the main reason we were here. My friend has eaten here quite often and has given high praise for the moist brisket. Today must have been a slightly off day as the brisket did not live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, it was still very good, just not as moist as my friend said. He agreed with me that it was not up to par as usual. But to our pleasant surprise the star of this meal turned out to be the ribs. They were freaking awesome. The rub was great and we loved that we felt no need for sauce. They had a great smoke ring and the meat came off the bone with a slight tug. Just the way I like them. I will definitely be going back not just for the ribs but also for another crack at brisket. I have faith that they with live up to the hype this time. read more

We wanted take out from someplace different than the usual pizza or Chinese and we hadn't had Limp Lizard in a while. This place is always high quality and reliable. We ordered the catfish strips as an appetizer which are my absolute favorite. These are so crispy on the outside and tender flaky strips of fish on the inside served with a spicy sauce - YUM! We ordered two create-your-own platters. For $17 you get a choice of two meats (we got brisket and ribs), two sides, and cornbread, plus a choice of BBQ sauce. This is really a great deal. Two people can easily share one platter, but we had leftovers for the next day. Their brisket is so delicious with a subtle smokiness and a nice layer of char. The ribs are so tender and fall off the bone. All their sides are good. We especially liked the coleslaw and collard greens. While not as popular as Dino, this place beats them in my book. read more

Holy BBQ. This place was so good, I could have ordered blindfolded and still picked something amazing. It was so good that I could not walk out of the joint. Literally I was walking like I was 8 months pregnant with an obese bun in the oven. In a good way.. I am counting down the days until I am back up in Liverpool to gorge some more. read more

Service was decent and primary waitress was polite and friendly. Three of us in the party. Good: The pulled pork was good, not spectacular, but good. One of the party ordered smoked wings which were also good, but nowhere near spicy as ordered. Not so good: Beverage choices are not on menu and rather minimal. No mention of refills being an additional charge until you order a refill. Less than not so good: Brisket on Reuben was dry. I'm talking overcooked and a bit tough dry. Maybe they think the sandwich dressing will compensate, but it doesn't. Sweet potato fries were very limp and not seasoned well. Downright grossly questionable: Watched them clean the tables. They wipe down the tabletop with a dry towel which they then use to wipe down the seats, then the tabletop again. Looks like same towel is used multiple times for this. Having worked in food service and certified in safe food handling, this is gross. Likely giving serious thought about not returning here nor recommending it to anyone else. read more

Inside, it's dressed as a local biker bar. There was live music playing when I arrived. The BBQ ribs were quite good. I had a 3/4, but wished I had gotten a full rack. I had slaw and baked beans as sides, which were also really awesome. They also had a very good tap beer selection. The locals were real nice. One was sloppy drunk, but not mean or aggressive, so he didn't bother me at all. The restrooms were also well maintained. All in all, a very good experience. I will be back. read more

Gave this place a few tries and always left disappointed. The bbq is substandard. Overcooked. Dry. Underseasoned. There is more to bbq than putting it in a smoker. Do yourself a favor and drive on over to the "other" prehistoric lizard. read more

Spectacular BBQ and sandwiches. Their smokers are definitely seasoned and they turn out top notch BBQ. Price is super reasonable. I stick with the smoker stuff, and sandwiches. I like those items a lot better than their tex-mex burritos. They have bands on weekends, but it doesn't seem to be consistent. read more

I will never go there again. We got to the north Syracuse restaurant and they practically locked the door in our face. Their website said they were open until 9 PM and we got there at 7:45 PM. As soon as we opened the girl yells to us "kitchen is closed". We asked why? Because my manager wanted to close early. What kind of business does that? Never again will I go there to be treated like that. read more

Great food and great service! I foolishly trusted Grubhub and they canceled my order because of their own technical difficulties (Note: Grubhub sucks!) which I didn't realize until I had showed up at LL in Liverpool to pickup my order. Great place to watch the game on a Sunday. My girlfriend and I took a walk around the park then headed over here to watch some football. We will very likely return soon. read more

Our most recent visit was amazing. Pig skins (potato skins with pulled pork on top, cheese, BBQ sauce and scallions) were delicious.. Super crispy and flavorful. I had the catfish tacos, and added some BBQ sauce to those.. Catfish was cooked nicely and overall tasty. Tom/cuc salad, and collared greens were good. My husband had wings and loved them. We have come other times and the food & service has been average, so I would rate it 4/5 stars. Today was a great experience there. Next time I will order the pig skins as my main dish so I won't have to share them as an appetizer. read more

Essentially on par with the original location on the west side. Decent pulled pork sandwich. I do love their jalapeno corn bread. Tough to compete in the same town as Dinosaur, but they seem to do it. Decent barbeque with a drastically reduced wait. Worth a look. read more

If you absolutely love BBQ, you must try this place. We're big fans of Dino, but the sauces here are just as good, and date I say it - better?? Great svc and great selection of IPAs on tap. The two way platter was stacked. The ribs just fell of the bone, the chicken was just crispy and juicy and the brisket was prolly the best I've had in a while. Definitely a place to bookmark!! read more

Smoked wings...no sauce. Ithaca Flower Power IPA. What an incredible meal! Kicks dinosaur's butt!

Checked out this place on an overnight for work. Pros: 1.) Great service, our waitress was great and knew the menu very very well. She was able to answer all of our questions about how each dish was cooked. 2.) Smoked wings. All I can say is wow! The moisture and tenderness they save in these wings are out of this world. We tried a honey garlic bbq flavor as well as a sweet and sour asian flavor. The sweet and sour were much better than the bbq. It was almost as if they skimped on the sauce a little. Either way, I would come back here for the wings alone. 3.) When I asked what beers they had on tap, she said too many to name, and handed me a menu. I LOVE that this place had a wide selection of beers for me to try. Cons: 1.) Ribs. Some of the worst ribs Ive had. I can cook ribs better than this at home. Ribs should be meat fall of the bone melt in your mouth with flavor. I spent way to much time and effort trying to rip meat and bones apart trying to eat these ribs and would not order them again. 2.) Brisket. Again, Tough. Not the flavor and tender meat I would expect from a BBQ place. All In all this was a good experience. I left happy and would return, unfortunately it wouldn't be for the signature bbq dishes they claim they are great at. If you go make sure you try the smoked wings! read more

It's nice to sit outside but last time I was there (July 2014) the bottom of my bun was soggy. I hate that.

Ate there 3 times, first two were just ok but the last (today) was very bad. The burger was raw in center (asked for well done), the sweet potato fries were black and greasy. I may never go there again if it is my choice. read more

WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. Had this about 2 months ago and it was so good! Looked forward to this all week to get for lunch, when I got a chance to get to there. Well bad idea should have just bought something at McDonald's would have been better food and service. Girl that answer the phone had an attitude and when picking up the food seemed to be interrupting her and her co workers conversation and the attitude came with it. My meal which I had her repeat on the phone, when I got it I was missing items but not worth the drive back down there. The food was distasteful not even worth eating it. So disappointed I created a yelp just to make a review on this company. Hopefully this review will help others from making the mistake I made! read more

Absolutely dismayed at the FALSE advertising of this establishment. We ordered family dinner #4 to go today (ribs, chicken, pulled pork + 2 sides) while in the area. Upon paying, I noted that the price was lower than was listed on the webpage and specifically confirmed with the hostess that I was indeed receiving #4. 15 minutes later at home, we found that we were given a different order, #2 (4 pulled pork sandwiches +sides). I called the restaurant only to learn that the corresponding numbers had been changed for the family take away dinners. While they are aware that the numbers had changed, the menu available on website is NOT up to date. How is the customer to know??? At this point, I'm 15 + minutes away each direction without enough food to feed everyone at the same time. The purpose of takeout is to make life easier, not harder. Ended up having to cook anyway. We were not offered a voucher or some other offer to compensate for the inconvenience. Only option was that I could drive back for the rest of the items from the (original) #4, taking 30+ minutes. Elected not to do so. They've taken up enough time out of my day with the fam. Will not be returning. * I'm so annoyed, I even created a yelp account to share this frustrating experience. Future takeout patrons, beware. read more

Every time we go to Limp Lizard, we leave full and satisfied. The portions are generous and the wait staff is attentive. We've never waited longer than 20 minutes to get a table. However, if you want a seat outside on a nice day, you may have to wait longer. As for the food, the ribs are meaty and moist. A huge serving of cornbread (with or w/o jalapenos) is delicious. To round out my meal, I get the collard greens. Best I've tasted in NY. The pulled pork is tender and has superb flavor. I've had many of the menu offerings and not been disappointed. I prefer Limp Lizard to Dinosaur anytime. read more

I thought this would be a great evening out for my family. I bought a $100 gift card on Saturday and returned to eat today. After being seated and ordering drinks I asked the waitress to check my gift card balance. She came back and said it was $0.00. I then showed my receipts and was told I'd have to wait to resolve this on Monday. We had to get up from our table and told that the owner was out of town. Finally about 40 minutes later someone finally decided to give us a working gift card as we were preparing to leave!!! This was embarrasing and not a great experience for us! read more

Don't seem to see what all the hype is about, mac n cheese should not be considered Mac n cheese, roasted corn is literally corn out of a can with seasoning salt. The food has went way downhill the last few times I've been in. I always order the smoked wings - the last few times they for sure aren't smoked. They were deep fried and finished on the grill. Good and bad...I believe this is location specific and perhaps it was just a bad night, but I haven't been back to this location in 7 months. Good and bad, here's why...I love that they are community minded and had a fundraiser for a local peewee football team. I purchased qty. 20 of a ($5 donation) "free appetizer coupons" to give to friends, family and neighbors. There were no restrictions listed on the free appetizer coupons. The first time I ate there, the food was good food and the staff was down to earth. As you can imagine, I was looking forward to the next visit. The next time I came in with 2 friends. We ordered 3 chicken sandwiches, 2 chicken Cordon Bleu' and one regular grilled chicken. It was overcooked and the Swiss cheese had a very distinct odor that wasn't pleasant. We sent back the sandwiches and upon return they were cooked better, but the cheese was really not pleasant to which I asked to talk to the manager again. The manager took the sandwiches off the bill which was appreciated, but when it came time to settle the bill, we gave them the "free appetizer" coupon and the manager said we couldn't use it because we got the sandwiches for free. He copped an attitude like WE did something wrong and that WE were scumbags looking for a free meal. The reality was that we spent $100 to help a local peewee football team while promoting THIS restaurant...WHY????? Seriously???? I joined Yelp recently to cheer a couple other restaurants food and service and this bad memory is still fresh, so I thought I'd share. I'll return at some point because I know all restaurants have a bad day, but don't talk down to your customers like they are trash because they are giving you constructive criticism. read more

My husband and happened in for lunch because we were in the neighborhood. What a find!
