Dinosaur BBQ was a HIT! My husband and I were visiting Syracuse for a wedding and decided to check out this restaurant. We found parking a block away, and put our names on the wait list. While we waited, we grabbed drinks at the bar. I had the spicy jalapeño marg, which was solid. For appetizers, we got the deviled eggs and a sample of the macaroni salad. The deviled eggs were so good, I was shocked. For dinner, we had catfish, brisket, turkey collard greens, mac & cheese, jerk wings, and cornbread. The greens, catfish, and wings were fantastic. I was extremely impressed. The brisket was a little tough, but that wasn't a deal breaker. We grabbed the cheesecake for dessert, and enjoyed every bite. We arrived around 5pm on a weekday and were seated immediately. We were waiting for someone else in our party, and by the time they arrived around 5:45pm the restaurant really got busy. Food came relatively quickly, and the waitress was just attentive enough that we didn't really have to look around for her, but not over-bearing. I am not a big fan of bbq, so I got fried haddock. It was so delicious! My family, who are big fans of bbq, said it was some of the best barbecue that they've had in the area. It's a little bit pricey, but overall worth it. The deviled eggs were also really tasty, and the cornbread is a sweet bread. There was a good amount of food, but I was one of the only people in my party to have leftovers to take home. My only complaint is that the mac&cheese did not have macaroni, and instead was a shell pasta (which really upset my sister haha). First time visiting Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and I had high expectations. Everyone told me this is an iconic spot in Syracuse, and I was not disappointed. I was upstairs with a private event. The space is massive, could likely hold 300 people comfortably. There's even a stage space, great for karaoke or a work event. We were served buffet style and everything was INCREDIBLE. The tres Nino platter acts a sampling of Pulled Pork, Brisket, and Ribs. With it I got both Mac Salad and Mac N Cheese as well as a piece of corn bread. The Pulled pork was the smallest portion of the three but still worth all 3 bites. The slices of brisket were filling. The mac n cheese has always been my favorite side from them with its size and addition of BBQ seasonings its unique and never disappoints. When we arrived, the wait time for a party of four was quoted at 35-40 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 25, despite the long-looking line moving fairly quickly. The place was crowded--likely due to the graduation--but I've heard it's popular year-round. Our waitress (wish I'd gotten her name!) was excellent--super attentive and helpful with menu recommendations. I ordered the 6-piece dry rub BBQ ribs with fries and crispy coleslaw. The ribs were meaty and fell off the bone, though the tangy BBQ sauce wasn't quite to my taste--I usually prefer a sweeter flavor like Sweet Baby Ray's. The coleslaw was vinegar-based, and I tend to like it sweeter, so that wasn't my favorite either. The fries were more on the softer side than crispy--perfect if you're a fan of that style--and I enjoyed them. I also tried a piece of brisket, but it was a bit salty for me--though I'm not usually a brisket fan, so others may love it. We came here 19 years ago and were excited to go again tonight now with our kids. We ordered a to go order. There is street parking and we found a spot not to far from the place. We showed our family the place and the hostess was so nice. Then we went to pick up our to go order. This was not the best process though. We wanted to buy some sauces and rubs. Izzy seemed annoyed to help us. I asked to know options since there is not a display of options by register. She begrudgingly showed us and we bought several. She gave us our order but forgot to give us the drinks. Luckily I asked and she did give them to us. So that process of pick up was not a nice process. When we got back to our place we tried our order. It was amazing. I got the pulled pork platter with coleslaw and Mac n cheese. My kid gave me his baked beans. It also came with cornbread. Stopped in on a strong recommendation of a work friend to Dino BBQ. A very busy, bustling and cool vibe BBQ joint in downtown Syracuse. Be prepared to wait for a table at just about anytime of day as this place is busy almost all the time. Leave your number with the hostess and just relax and wait. Seating is available inside, the bar and outside picnic tables. Lots of brews and cocktails on tap, and a variety of BBQ options. It was just me so fastest service was to sit at the bar. Ordered the 3 meat combo, brisket, ribs, jalapeño sausage, collared greens and beans a sweet tea. Food arrived about 35 minutes after ordering. Brisket was great, tender and was perfect with jalapeños and their original BBQ sauce. Ribs were fall off the bone tender and tasty but quite small. Sausage was excellent, cheesy, spicy and tons of flavor with a vinegar mustard sauce with cubed onions. Collared greens were excellent, piping hot and tons of pork flavor. Pass on the beans, they were in my opinion a bit soupy and nothing special like a can of pork and beans. Cornbread was a miss as well, very dry and little to no flavor. Service was friendly but slow due to the large crowds and busy bar requests. An excellent option if you are hungry and have time to wait and like a loud and rowdy BBQ joint. Give them a try. The brisket and pulled pork are average, not something I can't do in my backyard smoker, vs some of the southern places in Texas that are in a different league. But this is Syracuse and about as good as anything in the northeast. Service was good. Not very attentive as I needed a refill and never got one. The place is loud and good for groups. My two biggest pet peeves here are the fact that they serve Pepsi products (not a deal breaker and I know Coke changed their business model to not care about the smaller chain restaurants) and my biggest issue here is parking.
