The renovation inside this old Starbucks is very, very nice. Sleek, clean and modern design. My server was excellent taking my order and helping with any questions I had about the menu and checking back to make sure everything was good. I tried a cup of the Beef Barley soup and the Turkey sandwich. The soup had excellent flavor and was full of ingredients. The sandwich however was disappointing, mostly for the extremely small size and it was a la carte. It was bigger than a slider but definitely not what I was expecting for $13 with no side....not even a handful of chips. Yes, you can get a small bag of chips for $4. The roll was fresh and soft, the turkey tasted like deli meat ( which was fine), the tomato aioli was nice with the turkey and cheese and onions. I am still giving them 4 stars because I respect the owners and what they've done to bring another good restaurant to Syracuse.

Excellent Beef on Weck sandwich. My wife had the Beef and Cheddar sandwich and we got the Focaccia Bread with dipping oil for an appetizer. Had a Dutch Mule for my beverage. Everything was excellent, Focaccia bread was OK, just not what we expected. Waitress was very friendly and appreciative as I gave her a tip in cash and charged my dinner. Only issue was cost me $8.00 to park my car! lol We will be back again soon, I'm sure

    Hey Clark

My friend wanted to try this place because she misses Clark's Roast Beef sandwich. So, we went. The inside is nice, very simple. It's on the end of the building so basically the one wall is entirely windows which is nice. Our server told us to sit wherever we wanted. She was fantastic all night. Kept checking in but also gave us the space we needed to catch up and chat. I got a Blue Moon to drink. They didn't have fresh orange slice. It was like dehydrated maybe for what they use in an old fashioned? It was fine but it's nice to have the fresh orange flavor. We started with an appetizer from the specials menu. Drunken Focaccia Bread. It had house made beer cheese sauce, chopped bacon, green onions, and balsamic. It was tasty. The beer cheese didn't have that overpowering flavor it can sometimes have. It was huge and thick though and difficult to eat. It was weird there wasn't any silverware. We both ordered the Hey Clark. Sliced Roast Beef, red onion, and cheddar on a toasted onion roll. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. Quite possibly the BEST Roast Beef sandwich I've ever had. (I had never had Clark's) My friend said it lived up to her memory and possibly was better. She ordered a side of Smoke Shack Potato Salad and said it was delicious. I ordered Dirty Chips. I was assuming they were house made chips. I didn't realize it was actually a bag of the brand Dirty Chips. So that was disappointing. It was kind of expensive, I thought, for what we got. But we left full and satisfied so I guess that's what matters.

Matt Beach, the owner of Ale 'n Angus on Harrison Street - who has won seven of the past eight New York Best Burger championships - has opened a new bar in Syracuse's Armory Square, this one built around an iconic local sandwich, paying homage to one of the most popular menu items in recent Syracuse bar history: the roast beef sandwich from Clark's Ale House. Between bar seating and dining tables, the restaurant can accommodate 40 customers. It will open up to the grassy area surrounding the shot clock monument. That mini park, which is part of the property, will be gated off and used for outside seating for roughly 20 additional customers. The spot will be dog-friendly because 60% of downtown residents own dogs. The menu includes salads, soups, wraps, paninis and appetizers. The kitchen is limited to electric appliances because it doesn't have a vent hood or an Ansul fire exterminating system, similar to the kitchen at Clark's. Now, I LOVED the original Clarks roast beef sandwich. I don't even drink, but I was a loyal customer of Clarks because of the sandwich and the turkey was amazing too. Ever since the original closed (because the short re-opening was not the same), I've been chasing that roast beef experience, so I was very excited to see someone was planning to try to take up the mantle. Wife and I visited this weekend. Not a ton of tables inside, but we were able to walk in and be sat immediately around noon on a Saturday. It's been very nicely remodeled inside. Small menu, but hey, the whole point is the roast beef anyway. We ordered a Hey Clark, the tribute to the original sandwich, and a turkey cause I had to try that too, and we split both. My wife got a side of the smoked potato salad as well. Food was brought quickly, employees were very friendly. We felt everything was good, but it just didn't quite live up to Clarks. The roast beef was good, but the meat just wasn't as tender, and we also felt the sandwich was a little small for the price. Turkey was good as well, the sundried tomato aioli was tasty, although it could've used more. We expected mustard to be served with the roast beef, but had to ask for it. My wife did love the potato salad though. Overall, we'd go back if in the area and we wanted to scratch that itch a bit as nothing was bad, but it fell just a little short for us on what was most important.

Very nice inside and out! Tables with grassy areas and seating to relax, outdoor games have the feel of being down south. We were greeted right away by an employee who was punching out and introduced to the hostess by him as well. Impressive! They have daily specials which all sounded great but we had heard so much raving we knew what we were getting. We tried the beef on a weck and the Hey Clark so we could share and try both and we were not disappointed!! The beef on a weck bun is soft and the Hey Clark is toasted outside crispy inside soft, house fresh horseradish delish! We will be back to relax and try other items soon!! Great job

Went for lunch with another couple 4 people. Menu is limited to a few sandwiches and salads. Beef barley Soup cup. Mostly beef broth, one large piece of beef and some potatoes. No barley in it. Not much flavor. The Clark with cheese and onion with horseradish sauce on side was delivered to the wrong person. They ordered beef on weck. Person with Clark got the beef. Complained to server after they both tried their meal and server could care less. Attitude was you the customer took the wrong meal. Turkey panini was ok. Potato salad was good. Smoke show panini. No peppered bacon, just realized, pepper jack cheese was also ok. The restaurant is nice size with tables in the beginning then bar seating then back area where you overlook the MOST. Would run back based on food and service.

Not my finest or most in depth review, we but finally stopped in, as I have been waiting for the salty flavor of the beef sandwich since blue tusk was retired. we actually came because we wanted soup - beef barley, it was thicker but tasty. The app of whipped Ricotta and feta dip was a surprisingly really addicting & our favorite. I am more excited to return with our dogs for the outdoors - and share a bunch of apps!

Went opening weekend and it was packed. The server did not skip a beat. The food was delicious. I was a huge fan of the potato salad. There were some low top tables, the bar area, and a standing area by the bar where you could set drinks and food. The interior design is simplistic but has a nice feel to it with interesting light fixtures.

I have been hearing about this place, have been super excited to try something that was well known as a staple to the community, and who doesn't love roast beef sandwiches? Unfortunately when we went late last night, I had had a late lunch if roast beef sandwich somewhere else so I opted for an appetizer and a salad. The sister restaurant of this place ( Ale n Angus) has amazing food so I had high expectations. The ambiance is that it is/will be a fun spot in Armory Square, very sleek with nice wooden tables and the music was good. Seemed very clean. There will be spots to sit outside in the summer from what we could see. The service was alright, just stunk that every beer my friends were drinking kicked when they asked for it or after their first, and their 2nd option wasn't even available. The waitress was fine, but... The appetizers came out and the focaccia bread with dipping oil was interesting. The bread was so thick and dense it was more reminiscent of soda bread. The oil mix was decent, but the oil itself tasted like the oil mix you use in a restaurant to save money so it had a weird aftertaste. The crackers and bologna appetizer was better in my opinion, with a really great mustard and sausage sliced on the bias to pile high with pickled onions on a saltine cracker. The meals came. My friends both had beef sandwiches, which looked stellar. I will definitely need to get one in the future. My salad came out and was huge! I was looking forward to it. I got the wedge salad, which had bacon but for 3.50$ more you could add turkey or roast beef. I asked instead to add the homemade croutons I saw on a different salad so I could try them (I love a good homemade crouton, but just fyi it does cost 50c which wasn't mentioned but is fine). The salad had lots of things going on, and would have been good if not for the dressing. I saw "Italian bliss" as the dressing on almost all of the salads, and to me I am thinking something like the dipping oil from the bread appetizer with lots of herb and sundried tomato and such. Oh, no. With no warning at all from the waitress, this dressing was so spicy that it made my salad completely inedible. When we started eating our meal, the waitress came and asked if it was good, my friends said yes! She kind of giggled and asked if their sandwiches were too spicy with the horseradish, they said no. I paused and asked, what about this dressing? Was it supposed to be spicy? And she apologized but I felt so embarrassed by being bested by a salad that I didn't ask for a replacement or anything. I stupidly had poured my dressing and mixed it all in at that point. She noticed that and kind of stopped asking me if I wanted anything else, because what she meant was a different dressing, not a different meal. I am good with spice. I am. But the fact that a salad dressing was spicier than any wing I had at Wingfest ever, is not okay, without a warning. And it wasn't just horseradish spice that hits you and goes away, it lingered for a long while after. "Italian Bliss" is not what you may think it is, the name is very deceiving. And I needed to write this review so others knew. I cannot believe this is the dressing they put on almost all of their salads.

We made reservations for dinner for 6 of us prior to seeing Hamilton on Thursday, September 11. I was very surprised the restaurant wasn't super busy on a show night. We chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful night. We ordered the whipped ricotta appetizer and drinks for the table. After drinks arrived, we ordered our dinners. The appetizer was delicious and was the perfect amount for the 6 of us to share. My husband got the Smoke Show Panini and I got the Beef on Weck. My husband was very happy with his choice and I was kind enough to let him sample my sandwich. I had never had beef on weck before and my husband said it was better than what he'd had in Buffalo. The roll was to die for! Crispy enough to stand up to the au jus and seasoned delightfully. The only thing we were surprised by was that nothing came with the sandwich. Chips were to be ordered a la carte which I somehow missed. Even so, the food was great and we were satisfied.

Dined in on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately. The food came out quickly. I was impressed with my salad and how much it filled me up. Potato salad was great too. It would be great to have an included side with the sandwiches, we were told they don't have a fryer but I think cold salads or even baked beans would do. It was affordable and quick, we would come back to try more!

An amazing vibe sitting outside in the cool autumn weather in armory square. The food did not disappoint and the cocktail was delicious and well balanced (not too sweet surprisingly)

Came in during what I would call rush hour at 12:30 on a Wednesday. Had no problems getting a seat, sat at the bar actually and the bar tender was super nice. I ordered the roast beef and cheddar, and it was fast, filling and delicious.

My favorite dish was always gyros over rice with cut up pita and salad from the streetcarts. Fastforward to now. In Upstate NY it is hard to find Gyros or meat over rice as good as the city...until today. I took one bite and had flashbacks. The chicken is seasoned with a blend of the middle east and Mediterranean. The steak was coated with white sauce, garlic sauce, and hummus. And the salad was panopley of options. Walking through the restaurant was nice as the space was very large and the decor indoor was cozy and whimsical. Our server was nice throughout the meal. I asked them if they could get me a clean cup and they ended up bringing the same one as the same mark and crumb were still there. For food, our table ordered a few items to share. We got: -CAULIFLOWER WINGS: The chutney/salsa on top of the fried cauliflower was nice and gave the item a little sour kick. However, the cauliflower itself was not cooked fully so not as soft as I wanted it to be. -SYRACUSE POUTINE: The appearance of the poutine was not the best. However, the gravy it came with was very flavorful and tasty. The potatoes themselves were not fried and were in wedge form but went well with the gravy. The small globs of melted cheese on top were a nice complement. -CAJUN SLIDERS: The slider compliments/sauce went well together but the sliders themselves had grill marks on it which gave a bitter bite to those parts of the slider. Additionally, the fried shrimp inside of the slider still had the tail on and so it was a bit of a surprise to bite into a full tail while eating a slider.
