    Antipasto salad

Thanos market was clean and cozy, filled with lots of European grocery items on the shelves and cheeses, sausage, hummus and drinks in the cold case. (Other items too). Their deli selection is nice, with choices like mortadella, ham, turkey, salamis and cheeses. I ordered small containers of their Antipasto, Tomato and Cucumber salad and Marcona almonds. I also bought a bag of Grain free crackers. There are two tables inside and one outside, almost everyone I saw came to pick up their food. I sat at the front window and had a little picnic. The Antipasto had a nice mix of meats, cheese and olives some were a little spicy, the cucumber and tomato salad was mostly tomatoes, but no complaints as it was very good with red onion and I think a little basil. Their sandwiches are on stretch bread from a local bakery, "Pastabilities Daily Bread". Definitely worth a visit!

Wow this place was so good!! Ordered a sandwich that was INCREDIBLE and got to walk around the market while they were preparing it. Everyone was so nice, will definitely go back. Product imports were so fun and have to do a shopping trip.

Thanos is a gem of a store in the Hawley-Green neighborhood. They sell a variety of food items including meats and cheeses from their deli. They also make sandwiches. The Thanos Sandwich is outstanding! The cheese has a little bit to it, which I like. Thanos is well worth going out if your way to visit.

Found this place looking for a certain dressing and glad I did. What I found was a great staff going above and beyond for their customer. Lucked out, today's homemade soup was Italian Wedding, one of my favorites and their soup did not disappoint. Some of the best. Sandwiches are very good and salads are large. Great place to find your italian goodies. Wide selection. Pictures do not do justice.

I'd like to propose this as a new sandwich called The Altered State lol. I changed the Mortadella to turkey and the provolone to fresh Mozzarella, then added Cukes and Lettuce with some of their balsamic glaze. It was as wonderful a sandwich as I expected mmmm

My husband and I stopped at Thanos for an impromptu lunch today, and I'm really glad we chose to do so. First off, I was expecting a kind of average looking, hole in the wall style deli. When we pulled up, the storefront was beautiful; much more like a gourmet spot than a corner store. There are large windows in the front, and absolutely gorgeous planters spilling over with flowers. I was pleasantly surprised before I even stepped inside. Once in the store, it was a smorgasbord of high quality foods, both in terms of ingredients and prepared goods. Coarse sea salt, baklava, massive wheels of smoked Gouda and Parmesan; if it's Green or Italians origin, you name it and they had it. For lunch, I ordered "The State" sandwich, an Italian mix with mortadella and muffuletta spread (photo attached.) It was fantastic: zesty, full of fresh meat, perfect bread (crisp outside, soft yet chewy inside.) I added banana peppers, onions and lettuce. The biggest treat for me was that they had fresh figs for 50 cents each at the register. I purchased two, and ate them both within the hour. Overall, this is a very special little spot. Warm, super competent customer service, top notch quality and variety food in a lovely atmosphere. Well worth the stop, and I'm bookmarking it for all future trips to Central/Western NY.

    The Green Sandwich

Truly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. Everyone needs to try this place at some point if you are in the area. The Thanos is also really good but the Green with some kind of meat is my go-to now. The vibe of the store is also fantastic. I highly recommend!

In 1919, World War I had recently come to an end and Prohibition was looming just ahead. It was also the year that the Thanos family opened a small food market just north of downtown Syracuse. Thanos Import Market was located at or near the intersection of North Salina and Pearl Street, in the neighborhood known as Little Italy, for 97 years. Now, the shop that sells Greek, Italian and Mediterranean specialty foods resides in a new neighborhood,as it relocated to 105 Green St., in the heart of the historic Hawley-Green neighborhood on the city's near North Side. I went to Thanos to try out a fresh sandwich for lunch, but discovered much more. It offers aged cheeses, salami and other cold cuts, house-marinated olives, pastas, beans, olive oils, spices, and more. They also offer selections from big name brands that aren't easily accessible in CNY, such as Boar's Head and Dr. Browns soda. Thanos offers all that plus an expanded selection of cheeses and breads. It has also broadened its outlook beyond imports: Many of the items are local, like DiLauro Bakery rolls from the North Side, Pasta Shoppe pasta from Utica and Lively Run cheeses from the Finger Lakes. And the bread they serve their sandwiches on is local Pastas stretch bread. I ordered their Burnet sandwich, which is what they call their Buffalo chicken sandwich. If you read my reviews, you know I try buffalo chicken anything. The sandwich came on the aforementioned Pastas stretch bread with homemade blue cheese and hot American cheese. I went ahead and also added lettuce, tomato and banana peppers. The sandwich was good. Pastas stretch bread is great bread for sandwiches. The blue cheese spread was a tad too strong for my taste and I didn't get too much of the buffalo flavor coming through, but it was a good sandwich nonetheless. Their sandwiches only cost $8, so not a bad deal. My wife turned me on to this place when she went for her own sandwich for lunch one day and loved it. I believe I would've enjoyed one of their other sandwich offerings more. You can tell from the quality ingredients they use that their sandwiches are good. Their employees are also super friendly and personable. I'll definitely be back.

Starting NYE off with some hot soup from THANOS, yum!

Came for some goodies for NYE; husband grabbed some soup, everything is fresh, and the staff is wonderful. Go, You won't be disappointed!

    "The State" sandwich

Truly a "gem" of a market. Without doubt one of the best sandwiches you'll ever eat!!! Everything is sliced to order and of the highest quality on Pasta's stretch bread. For those if you possibly not familiar, it's from the Pastabilities restaurants own bakery. "The State" is one of my favorites although you can't go wrong with any of them. Oh, and good luck trying to leave without buying some other market goodies and a couple loaves of that stretch bread!!!

I've been here before, but this was my first time purchasing a sandwich. The ingredients were top quality and it was delicious. It was also quite filling. Wow! I highly recommend this place!

I will preface this by saying I'm from Philadelphia and ordering something called a Philly steak and cheese outside of the city limits is akin to blasphemy. So don't tell anyone ;) But I won't judge that sandwich against the Philly examples. I'll judge it on individual merits. And on its own merit, it was a very tasty sandwich. On top of that my wife's grilled cheese absolutely looked legit. I appreciate the fact that a small place like this takes pride in the food they put out. And judging by how busy it was at 7:30 on a Thursday night, the locals know it too. If I'm ever back in Syracuse, I'll stop back.

The first time I went was during the lunch rush, and honestly, it was amazing. Before I was even fully inside, the staff greeted me, asked if it was my first time, offered me samples, walked me through the menu, and gave recommendations based on what they personally liked and what they thought I'd enjoy. They even explained which sauces paired best with different items. The energy in the restaurant was so upbeat and welcoming, even though they were incredibly busy. They treated every customer that way, and it really made me feel like they value both their employees and their customers. That positive atmosphere definitely stood out. On top of that, the food was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I left thinking, "I'm definitely coming back." My second visit was around the start of the dinner rush, around 6:00-6:30 p.m., and it was a completely different experience. The staff was still kind and polite, but the energy just wasn't the same. It felt much quieter and less engaging than my first visit. I also paid for extra sauce because I remembered wanting more the first time and having to pay for it, but my meal came without any sauce on the food--it was only on the side. When I asked about it, they had no problem fixing it and were very friendly about it, which I appreciated but it just seemed odd that the first time my food was made with sauce included. Unfortunately, the food itself also didn't taste quite as good as it did during my first visit. I haven't tried any of the desserts yet, but they looked incredible. The cake slices are HUGE--I honestly think one slice could easily be shared between two or even three people. At around $7.99, I think they're reasonably priced considering the portion size. Overall, I also found the menu prices to be fair, and there's a great variety of options to choose from. Because my experiences were so different, I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5. If my second visit had matched my first, this easily would have been a five-star review. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'll probably stick to going during lunch since that first experience was so memorable. For anyone wondering what I ordered, I got the chicken and lamb halal over rice. It came with onions, tomatoes, and a few other toppings (I don't eat onions, so I can't remember everything that was included), along with a piece of naan bread. During my first visit, I couldn't decide between breakfast and lunch, and the staff recommended I try the rice platter--and I'm so glad they did because it was delicious. I still couldn't resist ordering a side of French toast, though, and that was a great choice too! Everything was generously portioned, and I left full both times with left overs. I do believe they told me they serve breakfast all day as well.

The place was bustling, all seats taken, people standing waiting on their order, and others dashing in for their carry out orders. There's good reason for that, the food, the coffee, the service, the vibe was all excellent. Inside is clean, simply decorated, and everything from the food to the kitchen is visible. It's simply part of the decor. We purchased some bagels from the previous day, some breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The coffee was bold, rich and fresh. The bagels delicious, all of the sandwich parts cooked to perfection. There's a friendly, warm vibe inside that extends from the staff and is entrenched in the food and coffee. The staff always seem to be hard at work as they are clearly in high demand. We were lucky this visit because all of the bagels were super fresh as it was peak busy hours. We also were lucky because we actually found parking quite quickly & didn't have to circle the block. I appreciate they offer sandwich options but I usually stick with a bagel & some form of cream cheese for myself because that's just usually my preference. This visit I got a rosemary salt bagel with salmon cream cheese. It was simple & perfectly what I was looking for that day. It's a beautiful space that is well lit & well decorated.
