NY style BBQ. I knew what I was getting myself into here. Except I really didn't. Limp Lizard is as much a local blue-collar bar as it is a restaurant. The two elements don't play together super well if you want to come for food, as you will be passing the bar on the way to your seat. Which is what I was doing, oh well. It's not in-your-face so I can give a respectable 3 stars here. As far as the food, it's NY style BBQ , but I wouldn't necessarily rate it above Dinosaur or similar in the area. Or below. It's good but it doesn't stand out. I ordered poutine and I can vouch that you will get massive portions for your price on this menu. Anything you order. I saw salads, sides, and of course BBQ platters going by, and you could easily order 2 platters to feed a family of 4 (or get your growing teen their own). So there's that, but the flavors don't stand out, and even the BBQ sauce is runny and fairly weak. I'll go with 3- stars. And then service. I arrived a little late after my table ordered, but no one came over to me for several minutes until AFTER delivering everyone's food. Just like walking in, this place is a bar first and a restaurant after. Once I ordered, the waitress was very sweet, Southern-style (she probably didn't mean it), but happily served whatever we needed. When she came by. I'll say 3+ stars. We sat at the bar, and the bartender provided very good service. They have lots of TVs in the restaurant, and she was able to put on the hockey game we requested. We got the catfish strips as an appetizer and they were delicious. For my entree, I had the Cowboy Salad with barbacoa and a side of Jalapeño cornbread. Both were very good, but the cornbread was a little cold and I'd prefer it either warmed or room temp. We chose the air conditioning. The wait staff is fabulous, taken care of us as soon as we sat down and checking frequently to see if we needed anything. The side salad was huge and chock full of veggies and topped with croutons. The quantities of food is enormous and we both took back half of what we ordered. I cannot comment on the service or ambiance, as my brother in law picked up dinner from here, but what I will do is write a thorough review of our meal. Please keep in mind that it took 20-25 minutes to get back home so we could eat. I ordered the Hot Chicken sandwich and side of fries and corn. This was a solid sandwich. It had a nice amount of heat and a little bit of tang. It did come with pickles, which was nice. I would get this again. My husband ordered ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with a side of Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The pulled pork was Smokey, had nice bits of bark in it and a good fat to meat ratio. It was a very good pulled pork. The only thing I'd say is that personally, I prefer it to be a little thicker when pulled, more of a Texas style, otherwise it was really well done. The brisket was all cuts from the flat (lean), some parts passed the pull test, while others were a little dry, but an absolute pro move of this establishment was to cover them in BBQ sauce, which is often what one does with cuts like that (or add it to nachos, Mac and cheese, or turned into a chopped beef sandwich). The bbq sauce was actually quite nice and I enjoyed it. Don't go into this expecting Texas style brisket and you won't be disappointed. Overall, I'd give this dish a 7/10. It wasn't the star, but it was a nice compliment. The last of the meats were the ribs. These were fall off the bone, juicy, tender, and had a nice bark on them. I wonder if they were cooked on charcoal, I'm thinking they might have been smoked the old fashioned way over hot coals. I'd really like to know - these were really good. Lastly was the sides. The Mac and cheese. I've had better, I've had worse. It was an inoffensive mac and cheese and it did it's job. As far as the coleslaw is concerned, I thought it was a bit different. I didn't enjoy it as much on its own as much as I did when mixed with the pulled pork, which after all is how you should enjoy it. There seems to be a real kitchen problem at this restaurant. Was there Saturday night. Sat at bar & ordered chicken wings. They were the worst I ever had. They tasted as if they were fried up the day before, refrigerated, then microwaved and sauced up before serving. They even retained a walk-in cooler taste. The bartender was first rate & replaced my order with saucier wings, but all the sauce failed to overcome that some wings were cold in the middle. If this place can't make wings fresh, then I wonder if other meals are simply refrigerated & microwaved before serving. Can't get away with that when serving chicken wings. Gross as Hell. I've tried the pulled pork, half chicken, ribs, smoked wings, chili, Mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, baked beans, and Cole slaw. I can say everything is delicious expect the mashed potatoes and slaw which were very bland. The other sides are great, especially the chili and baked beans. All the meats are done right, with the ribs and smoked wings being my faves. I used to love it here but it seems their quality control is lacking currently. Last night I ordered a meal and honestly everything tasted fine and enjoyable; this morning though I have to say I must have contracted food poisoning because I've never felt this way after eating at a restaurant. I noticed some questionable practices last night as well such as touching the ice with your hand while making a drink to keep it from falling over the edge of the glass, now I've seen a lot of bartenders do this which can easily be avoided by simply not adding so much ice; the second thing I witnessed was a person that was refilling the bbq sauces had dropped one of the squirt bottle tops on the ground and rather than pick it up and bring it in the back to rinse it off they decided to just screw it back on the bottle and keep it moving I really do not like leaving bad reviews at all but as I lay here with my stomach in turmoil, I felt I probably should. read more

Another fabulous visit to Limp Lizard the other day. Unfortunately I had left my phone at home so no pictures but I'll see how well i can entice you with my descriptions. I got the Cowboy Salad with chicken. First of all the portions are HUGE and this was perfect as it was 3pm and i had been running around all day so in need of a good meal. The vegetables were incredibly crisp and fresh and such a great combination. The chicken was expertly cooked and the dressing that came with it had just enough heat. My fiance got the burnt ends sandwich with baked beans and potato salad. This could possibly be one of the best burnt ends sandwiches we've ever had. The sweetness of the sauce married so well with the crunchy char on the burnt ends. Again, I highly recommend everyone give this place a try! read more
