A quick review from a recent uber eats order. I was in town for a business trip and decided to order a few uber eats orders since my hotel's food is not the best. Looking through recommendations I came across Mr. Bigg's restaurant. I am always open to try different cuisines and one for sure was Caribbean/ Jamaican when I am back home. It was definitely surprising how fast it was made and delivered but then I also noticed it was located pretty close to my hotel. I ordered the Oxtail with beans & rice, plantains, steamed cabbage and an additional side of corn bread. First bite was a delicious. The oxtails are tender fall of the bone. Great depth of flavor and texture was delicate. Plantains are nice in flavor and color, steam cabbage is steamed nicely not watery, rice was a great compliment and the corn bread was moist and sweet. Overall I appreciated the food from Mr. Bigg's restaurant. I did not have a chance to stop in around the city for restaurant due to my schedule but this was a great presentation of what the restaurant offers. Caribbean cuisine is something I do not often get but when I do, I never am disappointed. I would recommend this and especially if you like a meal that is full of flavor, spices and possibly put you to sleep haha read more

The Syracuse location on North Salina. The rice and the meat was good with the exception that I ordered stewed chicken and it tastes like barbecue. Also the cornbread was store-bought and the collard greens were frozen and had no seasoning whatsoever in them. read more

I returned for the small oxtail order, and it definitely did not disappoint. It was packed with flavor! Just a heads-up - it takes 2.5 to 4 hours to get oxtail to that tender, fall-off-the-bone perfection. The BBQ jerk chicken was tasty, but I think the oxtail takes it to the next level! Eddie Igho Akiti learned to cook from his mother, a Saint Lucia native who ran a Caribbean restaurant in London for two decades. But he honed his customer service and restaurant management skills from the Olive Garden, where he worked for years opening locations and running operations for the national chain. Akiti started his own Caribbean restaurant five years ago in Watertown. He went from running a small place in a mall food court to running two food trucks at Fort Drum, the U.S. Army base near Watertown. As business got bigger, he borrowed the theme for the name of his restaurant. For the past couple of years, he's run Mr. Bigg's out of downtown Watertown, and decided to open a Syracuse location to tap into the larger market. The menu contains Caribbean food staples of chicken and beef, seasoned with spicy jerk sauce or flavorful curries. Ginger, turmeric, fresh garlic, thyme, allspice, nutmeg and coconut season the foods. Curried goat and oxtail stew, rice and peas (which are kidney beans), plantains, cabbage, and collard greens round out the menu. The menu also includes "coco bread," a coconut-flavored savory bread that can be used like a pocket bread for sandwiches. He has a variety of wraps, as well as vegetarian and seafood options. On Fridays, he'll serve a fried fish of boneless snapper. I caught wind of Mr Biggs thanks to another Yelper about a week before it opened and knew I wanted to try it. Today, the wife and I didn't feel like making dinner, and since it's very close to her job, we decided we'd give it a try. Mr Biggs is take out and delivery only. There are no tables in the place to sit, just a couple chairs for customers to wait for their food and a counter in front of the kitchen. I ordered about 20 minutes beforehand and the gentlemen on the phone was very nice and answered the couple questions I had. When I arrived, there were a couple other customers ordering and I waited maybe another 5 minutes for it to be packaged up. On street parking only on N Salina, and only one employee at the counter who was very nice. The wife ordered the curry chicken entree with white rice, collard greens and plantains, while I chose the jerk chicken entree also with collards and plantains, but I went with Mr Biggs rice, a rice simmered in tomato sauce and spices. I also ordered a beef patty for us to split. I really wanted to try the coco bread, but unfortunately they were out. When we got home, we were excited to dig in. Each entree came with 3 chicken drumsticks, which were all perfectly cooked and falling off the bone tender, and we switched a drumstick of each so we could try them both. The wife's curry chicken didn't retain much of the curry flavor, but the rice underneath it did. It was mild, but good. My jerk chicken, on the other hand, was extremely flavorful. Spicy with a touch of heat that'll pop your taste buds. My rice was really good, also had a good spice kick to it. The collards were fine, but were simple collards. The beef patty was also alright, but it could've used a touch more flavor and the meat had a very liquidy consistency. The plantains were AMAZING. Lightly battered and fried, sweet but savory. So good. I could've eaten a plate of those alone. Overall, we really enjoyed it and will definitely go back. Each entree was $10.99 and the portions were huge and gave us each a second meal. I'd like to get a little more adventurous and try the other menu options, and it'll be a great option for when I don't want a heavy fried type meal. Great addition to the city! read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. A hidden gem on the Northside for amazing Caribbean food. I got the oxtails entree, which comes with rice and beans and 2 sides of your choice. I chose Mac and cheese and plantains with an extra side of cornbread. Everything was perfect. The oxtails were tender and fell right off the bone. I really appreciate good cornbread too. Went for the first time today to grab lunch with my coworker. I decided to try Mr. Bigg's because my friend was in one of the pictures posts on Instagram and I figured if her and her husband drove over an hour to come here for the food - it has to be good. As a Brooklyn born Trinidadian, I was hoping not to be let down because I miss the flavors of Caribbean food. Let me tell you, you can smell the spices as soon as you get to the door. We went in and were promptly and courteously greeted by Eddie, the owner. He was very inviting, asked us if it was our first time, directed us to the menus, and told us he'd be right with us once he completed orders for the previous customers. While taking our orders, Eddie described each dish for us. I purchased the the curry chicken, my friend the jerk chicken, both with rice and peas and plantains from the lunch special menu. Baaaaaabeeeeeee! I felt like I was back home eating from one of my aunties or uncle! Of course at home we use chicken with bones in, this was boneless breast but the flavor, mmm! The rice and peas were not dry and had flavor outside of the curry sauce. The plantains were perfect! We ate our food like we hadn't eaten in days! Other than cooking at home, I have not had authentic food like this since living in the area and I've been here over 20 years. I would always get my fix when visiting home. Very small place, definitely for food to-go during covid times. We were greeted by amazing smells and a smiling friendly face. He took our order and we waited maybe less than 10 min. We ordered 2 beef patties, which were flakey, spicy, and delicious. Then I got the 2 meat combo: which was stew chicken, oxtail with rice and beans, and I got the Mac n cheese and cabbage as sides. The portions were ENORMOUS. The meat was so flavorful and tender. I especially loved the chicken. The Mac n cheese was kinda dry and the cabbage was nothing to write home about, but the meat is reason enough to go. My bf got the 3 meat combo: BBQ jerk chicken, BBQ jerk ribs, and jerk chicken with the corn bread and Mac n cheese as sides. The jerk seasoning was spicy and delicious and we both loved the chicken and ribs. Excellent Caribbean cuisine, convenient location. Yesterday was our first visit, but it definitely will not be our last! We're big fans of jerk chicken, and Mr. Bigg's delivered. The chicken was beautifully grilled: moist, tender, and all but falling off the bone. The jerk seasoning went all the way through that delectable meat, and it made my mouth happy every step of the way - from the first bite to the last lick of my fingers. it was torture driving home with that meal, having to smell all that deliciousness and knowing I couldn't sneak a bite (jerk chicken is NOT something to eat while driving). The rice and beans were not dried out like we sometimes see - well flavored on their own and a perfect complement to the building jerk heat of the meal. Plantains? Of course I ordered plantains...delectable, sweet, tender bites of goodness to close out the meal. The service was great - the gentleman was quite friendly on the phone and in person, and furthermore the food was prepared and ready when he said it would be. The little establishment on Salina is definitely going to be one of our new go to take out places. This is a take out/grubhub only restaurant with only two tables for waiting. When we were there Eddie(who seems to be the owner) was the only person working there. He therefore was making the food, taking orders and also cashing people out. He however was trying hard to be attentive and thanked us for our patience many times. We got the jerk chicken oxtail and goat curry with rice and beans, collard greens, plantains and cornbread for the sides. Without any exaggeration all the food we got was delicious. The chicken was a bit dry because it was white meat, but the seasoning and flavor were on point. My favorite was the oxtail, as it was tender and chewy while wonderfully marinated. That's not to say that the service wasNt friendly. Mr. Bigg took my order after asking if I'd been there before and shook my hand when he learned it was my first visit. Excellent find! My wife and I happened to swing by for dinner after a trip to Watertown. Inside was a clean and well decorated seating area, though there were only a few spots to sit. The owner came up to us and took our order personally, giving us suggestions for what to order. I got the chicken curry and my wife did the jerk chicken. The chicken curry came with beans and rice, which were flavorful and plentiful. The chicken itself was cooked in a slightly spicy sauce that tasted just right. The jerk chicken stole the show, however. The rub on the outside was both flavorful and satisfyingly hot, and the meat inside was succulent and tender. The fried plantains that came with it melted in your mouth with a delightful sweetness. Highly recommended, and the price point with the Yelp sale (20 for 15) can't be beat! read more
