Located in the Salt City Market. It's very rare that I can find a full meal at a stall in a food market for my child with multiple, food allergies. I saw that Miss Prissy's offers a half roasted chicken so I inquired about it (I believe it was called grannie's plate). The lady working at the counter was so kind and patient. She read over my daughter's allergy card thoroughly and knew what was in the dishes. Grannie's plate came with two sides. I was surprised that the candied yams and green beans didn't contain dairy or ham (there's turkey in the green beans). Chicken was juicy and just fell off the bone. Candied yams and green beans were well seasoned, like a big hug in food form. It was also a ton of food for the price. I did see several things were sold out. So far I have yet to go to Salt City Market and not have a great meal. I've still only scratched the surface, but we finally got a chance to go try another one. Based on the reviews, it looks like their menu must change often. We pretty much cleared the whole thing with our order, and I'd be excited to reroll on the next one. We got the haddock meal, the rosemary chicken meal, and an order of the wings, along with all the sides included. Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens, Yams. I thought the meal sounded pretty plain when I looked over the order, but we were just excited to eat a well-cooked meal we didn't have to make ourselves. The rosemary chicken ended up being my favorite part. So melt in your mouth tender, while the skin was snappy and crisp. The haddock was pretty much standard issue, same breading and texture you'd expect from a fish fry anywhere you go. We got three squeeze packets of tartar sauce we weren't expecting to like, but it was fine. The fish wasn't really a memorable part of the meal, but always a welcome addition. The wings were golden brown, the exact texture you want in great quality breaded wings. They were very flavorful, with a sweet and tangy sauce. The sauce is buttery, which helps it carry the flavor, but also turns into sludge if it gets cold. I wish they came with a dipping sauce - I think even a good ranch would have brought them home. I'm doing my best not to just say "melt in your mouth" a thousand times in this review, but it came up a lot while we ate this meal. The chicken, the mac and cheese, the freaking yams. My first impression of the mac and cheese was that pasta should never be this soft, especially in something that is baked. Then I tried it, and it's perfect. Super soft while retaining the pasta texture, but with a blast of creamy cheese in every bite. The yams -- again, my language is falling short so I'm just going to say it. The yams melt straight in your mouth in the best way possible. I hope they are always on the menu. These are kind of express restaurants at Salt City, so I get why their menu is so small. Going through the photos and reviews online make me sad I didn't come here sooner, but also excited to return later and see what else they have. With the quality of this meal, I have very high expectations for whatever they do next. read more

Tried a few items from here the other day when visiting the Salt City Market. First off extremely friendly service. I believe it was the cousin of the owner and he was super sweet to talk too. Really excellent mac & cheese. Like, really good. And I'm picky about my cheesy pasta. I got a Grannie Plate and got a double side of mac & cheese. The other sides sounded good but if double mac is an option that's what I'm getting. The chicken was tasty too. Skin wasn't crispy on mine but I don't eat the skin anyway (blasphemy, I know) so I didn't really care. Prices are reasonable, especially considering it's all home cooked. read more

This place has been on my list to try for a while, however after trying a sample of the mac and cheese at a foodie event, I knew I had to have some more. In fact, the mac and cheese is so good, that one of the market ambassadors saw me eating it outside and stopped to chat about how it is the best she's had in Syracuse. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods, and this version doesn't disappoint. It's super creamy and delightful. I also ordered the bang bang shrimp. Upon opening my bag and seeing the takeout containing, my knee-jerk reaction was to think "this is a small serving for $13" - That is, until I realized that the box was filled ENTIRELY with shrimp. Most places bulk up an order like this with vegetables and only give you a couple of shrimp, but this order was 100% fried seafood goodness. With that in mind, the portion size was actually really generous and a good value. The batter was crispy, the sauce was tangy, and the dish was indulgent. I'd definitely order these items again! Sooo my husband and I took a stroll downtown today and went to Salt City Food Court & I was impressed! We had Miss Prissy's pink plate and it was delish. Oxtails with white rice and two sides! She takes cash or credit and the service was quick. Order online or stop by early because she sells out quick! She offers MacNCheese egg rolls too & Roasted Chicken I'm going to try her cabbage next time! FYI:The pic shows a cupcake I got from a bakery inside the food court. I come here often, I usually only order the granny plate or the fried chicken plate (I forgot the name of it) but I can tell you this is the best soul food you can get in Syracuse! I haven't gone once and been dissatisfied. My only gripe is they run out of food quickly. There have been so many occasions I've gone and ordered something and they don't have it. I don't understand how if you close at 9 why you have run out of certain food items by 5pm. I think there has to be better planning involved to make sure the entire menu can be available during all operating hours. That's really the only thing I don't like about this place. Nice location in a cool food hall. I enjoyed the Mac and cheese, corn bread and collard greens very much. My low score comes from lack of attention. I approached the counter and no one was there. I stood for a few minutes and then sat in a bench directly in front of the counter for quite a while. Finally just a few minutes before I was ready to leave, the associates came back behind the counter. They had been sitting at a table just across from me and didn't acknowledge I was there. I told the man that helped me that I almost walked away. His reply was that he was trying to get some food in his belly. I said that I was too. I had a 4 AM wakeup the next morning and didn't have a lot of time. In the future I would suggest to them, that they have a lot of competition in a small area. Customers come before your belly. I really enjoyed my lunch here. Conveniently located in salt city market the food was served fresh and fast. I hade the rosemary roasted chicken and it was cooked to perfected. Y'all. My dog is looking at me with a VERY concerned look but I just remembered the fried green tomatoes and yelled "YUM-MATOES!" at nobody. Run, don't walk to Miss Prissy's at The Salt Market (and go early, their stuff is so good they regularly sell out) and order the granny plate (make sure one of your sides is mac and cheese, duh) and get a side of fried green tomatoes. In fact it has been the place I have eaten the most at Salt City. I wanted to order their Thanksgiving Giving dinner special. I ordered and paid for it and asked for a substitute for one of the sides. This was met with an unnecessary aggressive answer. For $256.41 I cannot substitute anything to suit my family needs. I explained that one of the dishes offered as a side my family did not eat. She suggested I get double of one we did like. We are a family of 3 so that would have been way to much food. Instead of compromising with me and asking questions I was immediately shut down. The Side a' la Carte was more expensive than the substitute that I was suggesting. It didn't make sense that she would rudely suggest giving me my money back instead of just adding the cheaper dessert? It made no sense. At that point my family and I felt uncomfortable eating the food because if this is your energy what would you do to my food. The trust has been broken. I will never eat there again. No one in business should ever treat a paying customer that way. She sent my refund and I am grateful for that. But there is too many places to eat and spend my money. At least what I purchased wasn't good. I got the okra which was ok. But my main problem was the boneless Hennessy wings. I did not like that dish. They looked like McDonald's nuggets I could get for cheaper. I can't speak for the other dishes those might be better. But the boneless wings is a no for me. I was so dissatisfied to have paid 17 dollars. It felt like a waste of money. I even talked to the owner and she wasn't willing to refund or give any complementary food or something to replace this. She gave me a 5 dollar gift card. But I really wouldn't want to come back. It looked like something that was frozen and fried. The sauce was also runny and didn't have a honey Hennessy taste.
