I'm a dessert connoisseur and eat my fair amount of sweets (more than I should probably) but this was one of the tops. The cream on top was so silky, and the flavor was unreal. Seriously, don't skip that slice. Get one. Get 10. Next-level dessert.

Yet, that's my preference. The chicharrón de pollo was crunchy . The ambiance, I get kids are kids, but management needs to stand up and don't let high schoolers be disrespectful with unruly behavior towards the staff and harassing patrons when ordering. There aren't many chairs but I understand this is more of a grab and go kind of spot. Did I forget the alcapurrias? They reminded me of the ones that I ate at the school cafeteria back at home in Puerto Rico. Just hit the nostalgia taste buds. FYI, if you are looking for desserts to accompany the food sadly they do not provide it. This is more of a cafeteria than an actual restaurant type of place. That stated, if you are in the area by passing and want to grab something to eat this is a good place to stop.

They have some tables on the inside and they have an outside patio area. The parking is limited you can park on the street and then they have a very small driveway that can fit maybe two cars. The food is more buffet style however, you have someone on the other side, preparing it for you . I was kind of skeptical when I saw it presented as a buffet however, the rice was seasoned perfectly with the black beans, and the sweet plantains, just the right amount of sweetness, and the flan was perfection. The gentleman serving me was nice and assisted me with explaining each item . I will definitely be back for more of their delicious food. Cheers

The hours said they were open starting at 4:00pm. Got there at 4:45pm and there were a few people waiting outside of the truck. However, the ordering window was closed. I supposed it was because of the cold (only 60 and cloudy). I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, one of the people in front of me went to the side of the truck and started talking to someone inside. They even mentioned that that was a line forming. I waited. And waited. Finally, after 10+ minutes, I walked back to my car and drove home empty handed. No one ever acknowledged me, said they weren't ready, or even said hello. I am hungry and now have to figure out something else to scrounge up at home for dinner for my family.

Mamia's Island is a serve-you-at-the-counter type restaurant, with a small dine-in area with about 5 tables, but you absolutely don't want to skip trying this place out. My wife and I were on our way to Rochester on a day off, and had plans to grab lunch at a different restaurant there. My wife happened to spot Mamia's as we passed by on Rt 104 and we decided to turn around and give them a try instead, and we were very glad we did. This place was way more our speed. We love ethnic foods, and we pulled in right as they were opening and the small parking lot was already full - good sign. We went in and placed our order - we got a "medium" 2-meat plate with yellow rice, albondingas & pernil, along with 2 empanadas (1 beef, 1 chicken) and an order of mixed (yuca & plantain) tostones. Everything was delicious. The only complaint we had was we did end up getting a lot of connective tissue in our pernil, but other than that, everything was amazing. We did wish the tostones were served with some kind of dipping sauce, but fresh, they honestly didn't need anything. They were seasoned and salted perfectly, the empanadas were amazing, and it was enough food to feed us twice. The total was around $30. We'll be making the half hour drive to get food regularly.

The service was also incredible, I enjoyed talking to the lady taking my order and she shared a lot of history behind the pictures in the restaurant and in general. The vibe was relaxed and low-key, making it a good place to sit down and get some work done. I spent some time working while I was there and appreciated having a space where I could focus without feeling rushed. The staff was pleasant, and one of the employees was kind enough to take a picture for me when I asked, which I appreciated. The only thing that stood out to me was that there wasn't much of a greeting or acknowledgment when I walked in, but it wasn't a huge issue. The seating was okay. The chair I chose wasn't the most comfortable for an extended stay, but it got the job done. There was also some rock music playing during my visit, which helped create a casual atmosphere. I didn't order any coffee or food this time around, so I can't speak to the menu yet. This visit was more about finding a place to work and unwind for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. While I'm still searching for my go-to coffee lounge in Syracuse, Recess is definitely a spot I'd visit again. It has a chill, unpretentious vibe that makes it easy to settle in and spend some time there. I forgot to take more pictures will do when I go back.
