Mamia's Island is a serve-you-at-the-counter type restaurant, with a small dine-in area with about 5 tables, but you absolutely don't want to skip trying this place out. My wife and I were on our way to Rochester on a day off, and had plans to grab lunch at a different restaurant there. My wife happened to spot Mamia's as we passed by on Rt 104 and we decided to turn around and give them a try instead, and we were very glad we did. This place was way more our speed. We love ethnic foods, and we pulled in right as they were opening and the small parking lot was already full - good sign. We went in and placed our order - we got a "medium" 2-meat plate with yellow rice, albondingas & pernil, along with 2 empanadas (1 beef, 1 chicken) and an order of mixed (yuca & plantain) tostones. Everything was delicious. The only complaint we had was we did end up getting a lot of connective tissue in our pernil, but other than that, everything was amazing. We did wish the tostones were served with some kind of dipping sauce, but fresh, they honestly didn't need anything. They were seasoned and salted perfectly, the empanadas were amazing, and it was enough food to feed us twice. The total was around $30. We'll be making the half hour drive to get food regularly.

We stopped at Mamia's restaurant during our lunch break. It was my first time having authentic…read morePuerto Rican food and it was incredible. Their meat selection has a lot of different options of chicken, pork, stew style meats, etc. I had their pork and meatballs and they both were so good. The meatballs are soft and sweet which go well with the yellow rice. We also sampled their empanadas and the guava cheese on is to die for! The service was also incredible, I enjoyed talking to the lady taking my order and she shared a lot of history behind the pictures in the restaurant and in general. If you're in the area, it's an absolute go to!

A quick review from a recent uber eats order…read more I was in town for a business trip and decided to order a few uber eats orders since my hotel's food is not the best. Looking through recommendations I came across Mr. Bigg's restaurant. I am always open to try different cuisines and one for sure was Caribbean/ Jamaican when I am back home. It was definitely surprising how fast it was made and delivered but then I also noticed it was located pretty close to my hotel. I ordered the Oxtail with beans & rice, plantains, steamed cabbage and an additional side of corn bread. First bite was a delicious. The oxtails are tender fall of the bone. Great depth of flavor and texture was delicate. Plantains are nice in flavor and color, steam cabbage is steamed nicely not watery, rice was a great compliment and the corn bread was moist and sweet. Overall I appreciated the food from Mr. Bigg's restaurant. I did not have a chance to stop in around the city for restaurant due to my schedule but this was a great presentation of what the restaurant offers. Caribbean cuisine is something I do not often get but when I do, I never am disappointed. I would recommend this and especially if you like a meal that is full of flavor, spices and possibly put you to sleep haha

I wanted to try something different so I decided to order take out from here. Big portions and a…read moregreat deal (buy one get one free). The oxtails were very flavorful, collard greens were a bit bitter for my liking, and the jerk chicken & cornbread were just okay.
