Look for the brightly colored sign featuring the Puerto Rican flag or else you might miss Mamia's Island, an authentic family-operated Puerto Rican restaurant opened by owners Neymaris Sierra and Andrew Stewart along Route 104 in Ontario. Mamia's Island is a serve-you-at-the-counter type restaurant, with a small dine-in area with about 5 tables, but you absolutely don't want to skip trying this place out. My wife and I were on our way to Rochester on a day off, and had plans to grab lunch at a different restaurant there. My wife happened to spot Mamia's as we passed by on Rt 104 and we decided to turn around and give them a try instead, and we were very glad we did. This place was way more our speed. We love ethnic foods, and we pulled in right as they were opening and the small parking lot was already full - good sign. We went in and placed our order - we got a "medium" 2-meat plate with yellow rice, albondingas & pernil, along with 2 empanadas (1 beef, 1 chicken) and an order of mixed (yuca & plantain) tostones. Everything was delicious. The only complaint we had was we did end up getting a lot of connective tissue in our pernil, but other than that, everything was amazing. We did wish the tostones were served with some kind of dipping sauce, but fresh, they honestly didn't need anything. They were seasoned and salted perfectly, the empanadas were amazing, and it was enough food to feed us twice. The total was around $30. We'll be making the half hour drive to get food regularly. read more

Mamia’s Island - Puerto Rican Near Me - Ontario, New York

We stopped at Mamia's restaurant during our lunch break. It was my first time having authentic Puerto Rican food and it was incredible. Their meat selection has a lot of different options of chicken, pork, stew style meats, etc. I had their pork and meatballs and they both were so good. The meatballs are soft and sweet which go well with the yellow rice. We also sampled their empanadas and the guava cheese on is to die for! The service was also incredible, I enjoyed talking to the lady taking my order and she shared a lot of history behind the pictures in the restaurant and in general. If you're in the area, it's an absolute go to! read more

Rochester is blessed with so much wonderful Puerto Rican food and Mamia's Island is definitely high on my list of faves! Stopped by for lunch today for the first time, got a small order of rice and pernil + a beef empanada and everything was DELICIOUS. Flavorful, juicy, just right. This will become a frequent lunch stop. read more

Their food is INCREDIBLE and I can't wait to go back - I got the small meatball (came with 6), small beef stew with yellow rice and beans, and a guava and cheese empanada. It was all AMAZING and in total came to $20 - I am beyond stuffed, so it's truly an incredible value. The food was SO good, you can tell everything is a homemade recipe and made with love. The beef was so tender it practically fell off my fork, the rice had such good flavor to it, and the meatballs were so tender and flavorful. As for the empanada, I didn't even have time to snag a picture before I housed it - the guava filling with powdered sugar on top absolutely hit the spot! In addition to incredible food, the person who took my order/was working the counter when I came in was so friendly, warm, and welcoming. The restaurant had incredible energy, and I look forward to making this a regular stop on my 104 route! read more

In the past the food was good and so was the service. Today, 11/8/25 my husband called to see how late they were open and the girl that answered the phone was incredibly rude. Heard her complain that the guy on the phone was babbling about something. (one sentence, how late are you open), he was driving in from another county. When he got there, he ordered 3 meals. When he got home there was only 2. He also noticed that the sweet lady that was originally waiting on him was interrupted by this other girl who took over taking his order. He wondered if it was the same girl from the phone. When he got home, he told me that it was an all-around horrible experience and is never going there again. My thought was that it is maybe under new management. read more

What a great new addition to the local dining scene. Located on 104 in Ontario... Just a short drive from Rochester. Delicious home-cooked Puerto Rican food. Super friendly service, generous portions and lots of selections. A medium will easily last two meals or can be split between two people. We sampled the Arroz con gandules, pernile, empanadas, beans with sausage, And brought home a rice pudding and an octopus salad for tomorrow... Can't wait to go back and try it again read more

Our son's beautiful girlfriend (hopefully future daughter-in-law; no pressure, son) is of Puerto Rican descent. The two of them discovered this place during a road trip while visiting from Florida, brought some home and recommended we visit someday. Well, today was the day. As we set out for Chimney Bluffs, we knew this was where we going to have our lunch. We arrived right at opening time, so everything was hot and fresh. For the most part, they operate much like one of those Japanese places in the mall food court. You choose between one, two, or three meat combos (small, medium or large) and get a corresponding amount of rice, beans and/or salad. The meat menu constantly changes, so if you have your heart set on something specific, it's best to call and see what's on the menu for the day, especially if you're driving any distance. Today's menu included: Beef Stew, Chicken Encebollao, Oven Roasted Chicken, Pork Stew, and Oven Roasted Pork. Sides of the day: Tostones de pana o plantains, Amarillitos. Certain items are always available like chicken, beef and pizza empanadas. My wife enjoyed the Chicken Encebollao, "Fresh and Yummy!" And Amarillitos, "Delish!" I had the oven roasted chicken, which was so tender and flavorful through and through. The beef stew was likewise perfectly flavored and tender. Rice and beans were fine and on par. I got a little gluttonous and ordered one of each empanadas: chicken, beef and pizza. I am more accustomed to Cuban empanadas in Florida which are small like a ravioli or pierogi. These things are HUGE! More like a calzone. I had a bite of each and saved the rest for a post hike snack. read more

Today is our 2nd time and we looked forward to it! Their food is rich yet light and flavorful. Its slightly different than Dominican but equally as good. I do highly recommend this restaurant especially to those Wayne County residents that are tired of eating outrageously expensive fast food. HAVE SOME PUERTO RICAN FOOD INSTEAD!! Id take pics for you but I didn't have a chance. Lol. Stop by, smells it in the air, then get some in your belly!! Everything is good! Don't be shy!! They are very nice people and very cheerful when we have ordered by phone for pickup . Small , medium, and large plates. We get the Large Plates because we love Latin Food of all kinds! Enjoy! read more

Everything I've had at Mamia's Island has been great. This time I had both the octopus salad and a potato filled bun and they were exceptional. Definitely will go back. read more

I have not actually eaten there, but my husband has and he said the food is flavorful and definitely someplace you want to go back to again.

I've been passing by this place for quite some time wanting to go in and I finally stopped by. I am so glad I did. From the friendly customer service to the incredible food, this is a 10 out of 10 for me. I had the Puerto Rican trash plate which of all the trash plates I've ever had in upstate New York this is my number one favorite. I got the spicy meat which is not too spicy but wonderfully seasoned. I also of course had to try a beef empanada and a guava and cheese empanada because hey I'm not leaving without those. Guava and cheese empanada was made fresh to order with powdered sugar on top - hot and delicious - I could've eaten 10.Cannot wait to go back. This will be my routine stop when I'm traveling to Rochester. read more

The more I think about this meal, the more it reminds me of visiting a friend's home and joining an extended family dinner. I called and ordered ahead and the man who answered could not have been nicer or more helpful. He explained all of the options, sauces, and didn't giggle or pause when I butchered the word "salchichon" while ordering my beans (You should order them). We picked it up 20 minutes later at the drive-thru window. The two pastelillos (empanadas) - one beef and one chicken - were just the right amount of crispy and tender. My wife got a small order of yellow rice, vegetarian beans and the white sauce chicken with peppers. So delicious - and the chicken falls apart in your mouth. I got the medium order of yellow rice, salchichon beans, oven-roasted pork, and a salad with Italian dressing. The salad was just fine, but everything else was absolutely scrumptious. Next time we're getting dessert! read more

Delicious authentic Puerto Rican food. Our first time here. I had the octopus salad and rice beans and pork. The food is very tasty fresh and hot. Mamia’s Island - Small rice and beans with pork - Puerto Rican Near Me - Ontario, New York

I was pretty surprised to see Puerto Rican food in the area so I stopped by. The guy working there was awesome, explained everything they had today, showed me, took time to make sure I was well informed. The food was absolutely amazing, really high quality short grain rice, not nearly as salty as some of the comparable places in Rochester and THE BEST empanadas I've ever had. I (used to) go to the Spanish and Dominican places in Rochester a few times a month, but they always have a weird attitude like you're inconveniencing them by asking what's in a tray, it's literally a struggle to order without getting a half dozen eye rolls, I'm thinking 4 places in particular, exact same attitude at every single one. None of that awkwardness here. This place is a half hour from me, hour round trip, is it worth the trip? Yes, as long as the food and service keep up, I'll be a regular. read more

My husband and I just ate here for the first time a few hours ago. We had a late lunch/early dinner right in the middle of the afternoon. The whole time we were there, people came in to get food during what would be considered "off hours". From the time we walked through the doors, we were greeted by the friendliest, most knowledgeable and passionate man, who took such pride in all of the food that was prepared and offered. He showed us everything and explained what was in it, and how it was prepared with so much pride and love. From three rice preparations (choose 1) to the 2 bean bean preparations (choose 1) to a wide variety of delicious and incredible smelling meat dishes (we opted for the smallest size serving so chose 1), we were overwhelmed by all the appetizing, succulent options. Our roasted pork was SOOOO GOOD!!! We can't wait to come back to try other things on the menu. From empanadas to tostones, all homemade, there's something for everyone!! My husband is dairy free, and there was only one thing on the menu he couldn't eat. I cannot recommend Mania's Island more! If I could give it six stars I would. Thanks for the happy tummies. This place serves food for the soul. read more

I've been driving by this restaurant for a while and finally it worked out to stop by. SO glad we did! Flavorful food, friendly atmosphere and a very personable counter guy (the owner?) who took the time to explain the menu in detail. The portions were generous. You Ontario residents are lucky! If I lived close by I'd visit often! read more

The food is always delicious the customer service is always amazing! What else can you ask for!!!

We have stopped in several times for a take away experience. Always tasty food, but more importantly great customer service. Pulled in tonight just as they closed, but we were welcomed and cheerfully greeted, well served and appreciated by the owners. Our dinner selections were delicious, generously portioned and fairly priced. These people are fantastic. The rice and beans are phenomenal. Empanadas are world class. Their stews, shredded pork, chicken dishes, beef concoctions and occasional surprise offerings are part of the joy. Take advantage of the savings by paying cash and tip generously! And try the lemonade that the kids often have available. read more

Every time I have gone to eat here the staff has been very kind, quick and personable. The food is always fantastic. The pork is my favorite but don't sleep on the meatballs; they're bomb. The tostones are my favorite side and I have to get them every time. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. If you haven't eaten here yet you're missing out. read more

I stopped at Mamia's on a whim on my way to a meeting in Ontario. I was attracted by the bright colorful sign and the building's cheerful facade. The food was wonderful and the woman working the counter was very positive and helpful. There's great variety I only tried a mall portion of the offerings: rice and beans with sausage, chicken stew and roast pork. Highly recommended! read more

I wish i could give this place more stars but i got food poisoning from the pork. The service was great and the place was packed. I'd definitely try eating here again. read more

Damn this is a place I need to go more often. Right on the drive up to work on 104 this place is rocking with flavorful food that threatened to put me in a food coma of which I don't know I'd ever return. Something like going to Narnia and coming back life isn't the same anymore. I got the Puerto Rican trash plate special for Wednesday's and it did not disappoint. Empanada beef is like meat hot sauce on roids. The whole plate was perfect with the rice, beans, Mac salad, and even French fries to tie the whole thing together into a nuclear flavor explosion. 10/10 would recommend stop going to McDonald's and Mark's and start eating real food. read more

Absolutely unbelievable! I recently took a job out in Ontario and folks at my company mentioned how amazing the food was and that I'd have to try. Finally, today I did. I've had Puerto Rican food over the years from several places but this just blew me away. First off, the place is impeccably clean, the person that waited on me (presumably one of the owners) was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The waft of spices and homestyle goodness was like an instant hug. The meat choices were beyond imaginable. I chose the roasted pork and the stewed pork. Tender and full of flavor. The yellow rice and pigeon peas topped with beans-so tender and pleasing to the palate. This is a must try wherever you're coming from! read more

We just tried Mamia's island for the first time tonight after months of people recommending it. The portions were appropriate for the price.
