This is the second location for 809- I understand that they have a long time place on Lyell Ave. The service was great- our waiter Gabriel was very attentive. Another waitress and the hostess also stopped by to check in on us. The wife had the signature Mojito (which I tried and it was excellent) and I had a Mojito Especial with lime. They bring out their "house appetizer" which was a warm load I homemade bread and a balsamic dip. Very good! Both our dinners were excellent- mine was a Chicken Fried rice with steak and shrimp - it is a massive mound and I ate about half of it (that's lunch for tomorrow). Lots of shrimp and steak in there. And very flavorful. This is the first review and I am giving it 5 stars - I recommend checking out this different style restaurant - we will be back!

We were constantly ignored by the workers and it took forever for anything to get done, I ask for a drink... I wouldn't get it until well after my food came out when I ordered it before I ordered the food. Again..we were still waiting for a table and didn't get one, we had to eat our food at the bar, the food didn't come out until 2 hours of us waiting, they didn't even have a bathroom, the food was good but for the experience, super would never ever recommend this place. The ambiance was alright but I never got to see much because I never got a table.

Mamia's Island is a serve-you-at-the-counter type restaurant, with a small dine-in area with about 5 tables, but you absolutely don't want to skip trying this place out. My wife and I were on our way to Rochester on a day off, and had plans to grab lunch at a different restaurant there. My wife happened to spot Mamia's as we passed by on Rt 104 and we decided to turn around and give them a try instead, and we were very glad we did. This place was way more our speed. We love ethnic foods, and we pulled in right as they were opening and the small parking lot was already full - good sign. We went in and placed our order - we got a "medium" 2-meat plate with yellow rice, albondingas & pernil, along with 2 empanadas (1 beef, 1 chicken) and an order of mixed (yuca & plantain) tostones. Everything was delicious. The only complaint we had was we did end up getting a lot of connective tissue in our pernil, but other than that, everything was amazing. We did wish the tostones were served with some kind of dipping sauce, but fresh, they honestly didn't need anything. They were seasoned and salted perfectly, the empanadas were amazing, and it was enough food to feed us twice. The total was around $30. We'll be making the half hour drive to get food regularly.

Their meat selection has a lot of different options of chicken, pork, stew style meats, etc. I had their pork and meatballs and they both were so good. The meatballs are soft and sweet which go well with the yellow rice. We also sampled their empanadas and the guava cheese on is to die for! The service was also incredible, I enjoyed talking to the lady taking my order and she shared a lot of history behind the pictures in the restaurant and in general. If you're in the area, it's an absolute go to!
