I went on a Saturday night, close to them closing at 9pm. All the dinners were still available. I got jerk chicken and it was SO spicy. The person helping me told me it was spicy, but it was a little overwhelming after a few bites. For anyone who loves spicy food, it would be perfect. There was a lot of rice, cabbage, and plantains. I got the food to-go and it was still really hot when I ate it about 20 minutes later. The location is easy to miss because there's no big sign. This is a decent spot to get Caribbean food in Syracuse - unfortunately the hours of opening are all over the place. I have driven to this place plenty of times during the hours they advertise they are open only to find the door lock while people are inside or no one at the place. Really excellent Jamaican takeout. On South St (Rosa Parks) a couple blocks south of Onondaga. We had the jerk chicken takeaway and a couple of beef patties (empenadas). The jerk chicken dinner had GREAT jerk chicken, boneless pieces, over rice and peas, with an onion-tomato gravy. Oh yes. Sides were fried plantains (excellent) and cabbage, which mixed really well with the rice and beans. Massive portions of great food. It's right across from the community center. Cabbies eat here. We' are in the process of eating our way thru the menu. Go. (BTW: I didn't know that Jamaican people were POLISH ! With the understanding that this is home cooked Jamaican food, it's pretty good. It lacks the authenticity of true Jamaican, but how many places grill their jerk meat over open flame allspice wood in the US? Keep the expectations in check and you'll enjoy the interpretation. It's not as spicy but that's understandable too. Portions are generous. Plantains are done right. The food can be a little greasy, but the poached cabbage lightens it up. Oxtails are on point... rendered fat and gelatinous ligaments. Perhaps they would add extra scotch bonnets if you asked... otherwise they do have hot sauce. They never seem to have the goat... Goat is awesome... some day we'll come around to it in the US. Call ahead to make sure they're open. It's family run and they don't always open per posted hours. read more

Customer Service is everything when your offering any type of service. The food here is good but not that good for me to get disrespected by the server/owner!!! This is not the first time she has done this but it will be the last time I will ever give her a chance to do it again to me. I don't normally write reviews but here goes my first. I walked in and I noticed that there was a line. I had my 1 year old son and he was sleeping, so I went back to my truck and gave them a call. The older lady picked up the phone and asked " how may I help you?" I then said "I would like to place an order to go, 2 large plates with rice and peas one with curry chicken the other with oxtails". Her response was "you just have to come in". I then told her "I'm sitting outside in the parking lot and my son is asleep". She told me "there's no one here in line" which was a lie. I told her "ma'am I was just in there I don't need to be waiting in there because my son is in the car , all I want to do is walk in pay for the food and leave" after I said that her response was "I'm holding her up" then she hung up. My biggest gripe on this establishment is their customer service is out the window. If your going to post your number online you should expect to be called now if you don't take carry out orders by phone she could have politely told me they don't take over the phone orders. This is my first review; I hope it's helpful! When my date showed me where we were going, I was skeptical. It's not the nicest area, but this hole in the wall was so awesome (though a little small)! The staff are super friendly and helpful and could tell we were newbies. He got the jerk fish and I got the jerk chicken. We shared fried plantains. Both jerks were spicy and delicious and slathered with peppers and onions, though they were served with 3 slices of white bread. Is that weird? And also it was in Styrofoam containers, not nice to the environmentalists we are, but whatever. The plantains were amazing, and we shared this juice drink, whose name escapes me now. It was a life-saver though because our mouths were on fire and it was about 10,000 degrees outside. There was a nice breeze inside and people came and went. Of course Marley was on the speakers and there was enough Bob paraphernalia to cover all of SU's dorm rooms, but the people there were genuine and it was a pleasant meal. Having lived in Jamaica for a few years and now living here in a rural setting, it has been impossible to find authentic Jamaican food till now!! I was so thrilled to find Jerkhut at The taste of Syracuse last weekend! Their food took me back to one of the most beautiful islands I know and was truly delicious!
