Fun stop for our final stop on my Birthday girls night out. It was packed, standing room only. My friend was able to squeeze up to the bar and got me a potion with pomegranate and other fruit flavors. Food was still coming out of the kitchen at 11pm, looks like good option for late night service. 80's video game bar theme, I believe they host game night events. I had heard that a lot of the drinks were geared towards college kids who grew up on soda and energy drinks. So, I wasn't expecting much. BUT! They were able to make me a top shelf Negroni, and an Aperol Spritz which were both excellent. The atmosphere is like you'd expect. A cross between a video arcade and a dive bar. As soon as we walked in, they demanded I give them my ID to be scanned. They said it was for a rewards program, No thanks, I don't need you storing my personal info on your little portable hard drive in the back for all eternity. I love how it is decorated inside with all the wall murals and local art. It is kind of small and not a ton of seating space. As someone short I found their high top tables to be extra high. I am a Syracuse native, I started going to Three Lives this past September after passing by and being curious about it for a year since moving back to the city, and I was NOT disappointed. The bar food is great, I've had their burger and tots. The drinks are fun and whimsical and the bartender I see there frequently (Mike?) is a great alchemist when it comes to requesting a custom drink. More importantly to me than all that, Three Lives is the safest and most inclusive bar I've been to in Syracuse. The staff offers great banter and is funny and cheeky without being mean or rude. This is a great place to just meet up with friends and not feel concerned about other people being weird or creepy to you. This stand out experience a couple months ago, that will keep me a loyal customer (the only time someone was weird and creepy to me): my bartender straight up made a man leave the bar after bothering my friend and I and joking about roofie-ing our drinks. I do truly hope it was just a joke, but I felt incredibly safe seeing the level of awareness and how seriously the staff takes that kind of thing, just being able to recognize that we were being made uncomfortable and swiftly addressing it meant a lot to me. read more

Three Lives was an interesting experience. I didn't know what to expect going in with its gaming theme and what it would be like. My initial picture of it was a more gaming focused experience vs a restaurant first experience. I was very wrong. It is a restaurant first with a gaming theme and some arcade games to play if you wish. There's nothing inherently wrong with this but hopefully this review helps everyone understand what they are walking into. The food and drinks themselves our party had were great! The sliders were very good, the tots were fantastic and the drinks were well made. They have a large variety of dipping sauces to choose from as well which I always appreciate. This is certainly not a place for a wide variety of vegan options or someone more health conscious but they certainly appeared willing to do whatever they could to accommodate my party's requests. The staff was incredibly kind and service was great. The game theming was really fun and well done. If you do play any games they will show off if you earned the high score! The place is actually much smaller than I would have imagined but there are a few tables and a bar for seating. It's an easy place to recommend and I look forward to going back. I visited with friends after we got off of work around 10:54 as I saw that the restaurant/ establishment closed at 12am. The food was alright, to be expected as it's bar food, however not only was my friend harassed by other patrons for being Mexican; he was also treated rudely by our waitress. I wasn't there for the altercation between my friend, but the waitress also rushed us through our order with a very unfriendly attitude. I understand that the kitchen was closing, yet the attitude was unnecessary and I'd soon find out a part of she had it. She only brightened up after our order was placed and we were polite throughout the entire meal. We tipped generously, only because I wasn't aware of the aforementioned situation that occurred. The customer service was great, it was a little loud and hard to be heard but ultimately any staff we asked a question or recommendation they were more than happy to do so. TL;DR: Highly recommended. Unique bar with retro game theme. ***Ambiance*** The ambiance of this place is what makes it unique. Anyone can pour you a pint. What makes the same beer taste different is who is pouring it and where you are drinking it! This place has a full-on retro game theme going which I really loved. It is especially designed for people who have discovered true happiness by spending countless hours on two-dimensional side-scrolling pixelated games whose story arcs can be written into a fortune cookie...twice. If you are coming from a world of VR games with 120+ FPS graphics, this will be your history lesson. You are finally returning to the source (a la matrix part 3 ref). In addition to many video game consoles lining the dining area, the walls of this place are covered with beautiful artwork (see pics). On the more logistics side, the dining space has around 15 high top square tables that can seat 4. There are also a couple of longer tables for larger groups (of 6 if I remember correctly). ***Staff & Service*** All the staff that we encountered were super nice and friendly. Right after entering, we were greeted at the host's desk and were given menus. This is also the place where you can buy quarters for playing video games. You will also get carded at the host's desk if you are planning to have anything alcoholic. Seating is on your own. I was there only for drinks, and the bartender was also very friendly and alert. The service was quick. On that evening, both of the staff at the bar were rocking some amazing tattoos that were so on-point with the overall vibe and the artwork on the walls of this place. Which made me wonder which came first, the wall art or the tatoos. ***Menus*** I generally don't write about menus unless and until there is something unique about them (see my reviews on AWW and beer depot). This place has a unique menu. I will not spoil the surprise by specifically *not* posting the pics of the menu. I was impressed. ***Drinks*** This place really shines when it comes to cocktails and mixed drinks. Ordering mixed drinks is a rarity for me, but this time, I went with the necromance (see pic), which was highly recommended to me and also because I like the Riddick series. It was wonderfully prepared and beautifully presented in a poco grande glass. It is on my repeat list for cocktails, which is ever rarer. Speaking of unique, they have an extensive selection of non-alcoholic and mocktail drinks. The largest outside of Magic Kingdom, in my opinion. This place has a small but good selection of beers. One of each generic style so that you will find the general flavor profile of the beer you are looking for. If you are a beer aficionado and looking for a wide selection of beers, you are better off having it somewhere else before coming here. [just like we did. Review coming soon.] ***Food*** I was here only for drinks and didn't get the opportunity to try any food. A lot of the items caught my attention, and I will have to come back to sample them. Interestingly, they have won awards for food and drinks (see pic). ***For retro-gamers*** This is specifically for retro-gamers: In the near future, when all of our computers gets simultaneously fried by a glitchy OS software upgrade, remember this is the designated meeting point. Three Lives is a bar, restaurant and game arcade, a hybrid bar owned by Jon Page where you can order food, a cocktail and then play everything from Super Mario Bros. and Mortal Kombat II cabinet games to Xbox and Play Station consoles. The cabinet games date mostly to the 1980s and '90s. Eight are set up at any given time, but there are seven others in storage to provide a mix. They're 25 cents per play and the bar will exchange bills for coins. The bar features craft beers and specialty cocktails, including a selection of "potions" that come in special beaker-style glassware, and non alcoholic "power ups." They're meant to evoke the kind of potion a hero might consumer to become stronger. I really wanted to love this place. As a nerd, a barcade is something that's been missing in Syracuse, and I was very excited to try their food after hearing a ton of good reviews when they first opened. I do believe their menu has changed since the pandemic hit and they first opened, when they were boasting "the best chicken sandwich in Syracuse." My wife and I went for the first time a couple weeks ago. They have a special brunch menu and we figured we'd go give them a try. We don't go out much since the pandemic so we were excited to get out and finally give the place a try. My first thought was that it was not what I'd pictured in my head. I for whatever reason thought it'd be a lot bigger, with a separation between the dining and game playing areas, but it's a very small space and when there's a lot of people there, as there was for our first trip, it feels VERY cramped. Only a few tables and the bar, so there's not a lot of seating to be spaced out at all either. We sat at the bar. Bartenders were both extremely nice. I was a little disappointed cause I thought the normal menu would be offered alongside the brunch menu, but only the brunch menu is available when they offer it. We chose "The Game Demo", which is their sampler platter, which came with hot honey Nintendies (chicken tenders), cornbread, loaded breakfast tots and Funky Kong Toast Sticks (peanut butter French toast). Our food was brought quickly even though it was packed. As a non drinker, I VERY much appreciate that they offer non alcoholic mixed drinks, and I tried their Kirbys Dreamsicle which was delicious. The breakfast tots were great too. The Nintendies were a little disappointing, as they use chicken thighs for their tenders which I'm just not a fan of for tenders. I found them a bit greasy and the breading didn't stick very well. The French toast was VERY peanut butter heavy and a little too sweet for me. I wanted to give them another chance and order off their normal menu, so I went again today with a friend, and ordered the Spicy Pepper Cucco sliders with tots. Again, tots were great, sliders were made with thighs again and I still felt the same about them. The pepper sauce they use is....interesting. I thought it'd be more like a buffalo sauce, but it was more sweet to me than spicy, and I didn't feel like it paired well with the pickled jalapenos. Prices are fair and reasonable. Nothing but good service from friendly employees both times. Love their non alcoholic drinks, and the place has a very cool atmosphere, but the food itself was just a miss for me. I really wish I'd hit them up when they had their original menu, and I think they'd be better in a larger space. I don't go out to bars often anymore, but after a 3 year hiatus from the St Patrick's Day Parade, I was ready to make an exception. Our usual parade lineup along Walton and Fayette street weren't doing it for us this year. Despite the low turn out of the parade, it seems like everybody packed into the same five bars downtown. At previous parades, we used to retreat to JRyans, and it was far enough from the epicenter to be lively without being over packed. While we were walking and looking for the next place to go, I saw the sign for Three Lives and remembered I've wanted to try this place since they opened. We walked in and it was the exact crowd we were looking for. Busy but with breathing room. We spent the rest of the night here and had a great time out. I'd been running on cheap, light beer all day and I don't usually like to switch things up when I'm going this hard. But on the other hand, everybody was carrying around these potion drinks we just had to have. Really cool idea, and loved the way they adhered to the theme all around. I had a max health and a max stamina, and they were both sweet and delicious. We also spent a lot of time at the shot table, whatever they call that. For $8.00 you roll a 20 sided dice and they'll make you the shot that corresponds with it. Every shot I had was again, sweet and delicious. They have games all over the place. Lots of old arcade games that are quarter activated, and two TV's with consoles set up. I lost a lot of money and dignity trying to prove I was still good at some of these games. When it came time to order food, I struggled through the options. Although expensive, everything on the menu looked incredible. We ended up getting two Birria Tacos and a classic Rochester "Monkey Brains", which is their take on the Garbage Plate. They run a separate ghost kitchen by that name on some of the delivery apps. The Birria tacos were tender and flavorful, about as good as other places in Syracuse make them. They were gone immediately, and I think we paid the same amount as any other entrée. The Monkey Brains were a bit more wholesome. By the time I got into mine it had gotten to be pretty late, so I took most of it home. I like that they use radiatori (I think) for the mac salad, and the tots were perfectly crispy. Everything else you can't get wrong on a classic garbage plate - the burger patties, the hotdogs and the meat sauce were all on point. I'm sure it was some mix of all the sugary alcohol and the fact that I ate a full on meal after 1 AM, but I woke up in the morning feeling absolutely terrible. My girlfriend was in the same boat, and she had gone home before we went to three lives. Once we collected ourselves, I told her they had garbage plates, and in a moment of refreshing decisiveness, we pulled up the menu and planned our order for when they opened back up. She got the same Rochester one I got and also loved it. I thought breakfast sounded good, so I ordered that. It turned out to just be a stack of fries with some delicious sauce and two over hard eggs. The fries were perfect, but it definitely didn't come off as a garbage plate. If you're feeling nostalgic about the garbage plate experience, start with the Rochester and go from there. All in all, I could see this being my go to bar. The menu and most of the interesting drinks are expensive. But the crowd and the staff made it a great atmosphere. They seem to have events like Trivia Night and great looking daily specials I'd absolutely come back for. If you're hitting the bars downtown, you've gotta check them out. read more

I stopped by for lunch with a couple of former coworkers on Monday. First of all, kudos to them for being open Monday afternoon, because it's hard to find a place to eat downtown during that time! There are colorful murals all over the walls and cabinet games, some of them rare. The waitress (who was also the hostess and bartender for that shift) was very pleasant. The regular menu consists of sliders, fries, and chicken sandwiches. I know they do brunch on the weekends and looks like they do special funnel cakes on Fridays I think? Fun fun fun. I love how many cool events they seem to do, like movie nights. I ordered the grass type sliders with fries, and my friends and I got a round of mocktails. The drinks at this place are so fun. I feel like I have to return just to try all the drinks. The cocktails always look so cool online and the mocktails were banging. Perfectly balanced and tasted like the ~fanciest~ of soft drinks. I'm guessing maybe they make their own vegetarian patties? However, it tasted a little too close to meat for me and I was ultra paranoid that they had given me a non-veg option. I'm sure they didn't, but my anxiety was elevated. This wouldn't stop me from coming back, but I think to be safe next time I'll stick to the fries because they were perfectly seasoned and perfectly crisp. Also, they have SO MANY sauces. Retro looking arcade games line all the walls and were great to play. Alex came back around, told us about some things on the menu and gave us his recommendations. We went with the game demo of 2 burgers, 3 pieces of chicken and a side. Alexa gave us his suggestions and we took them all, upgrading the burgers to Toad and BBQ Bowser and Dorito tots. Where to begin. Went here on a Friday night. The place has a cool concept but poor execution. The place is small and the ten cabinets are in places where I wouldn't want to stand and play because I'd be impeding the means of egress. So they sit you at a table and a server brings over menus. One menu details their special "roll your shot" gimmick where you roll a d20 dice and whatever number you get is your shot. Cool. However, if you order this- good luck getting the server to actually bring it over because it didn't happen for us. I suppose that's the first saving throw you need to make. The rest of the specialty cocktails are named after various potions and characters which is fun. They come in little vial looking glasses. This is the reason a gin and tonic with blue curaçao is 12 dollars. Good concept but wasted in this form. Will not be back. read more

The games are 50cents each and they had one that was free to play. Immediately upon entering we were greeting by Mitch who was a wonderful server, attentive, funny, and overall have off great vibes. Mitch made sure we were satisfied with our drinks, food, and experience. I ordered the chicken sliders with fries and my boyfriend ordered the burger sliders with tots and we were both satisfied- definitely a generous serving. The bar area was lively with games being streamed throughout the location. I would recommend 3 lives bar to my friends and we'll definitely be back. Update for brunch. This is the only place I've found a gluten free donut breakfast sandwich. So so very good. I got the sweet sandwich option and was so happy it wasn't too sweet. Glazed n Confused gf fried donuts, sausage, bacon, I think chipotle aioli, a maple glaze, AND a housemade sweet potato hasbrown . So great! Mimosas are so cute. I rolled for mine. The bottomless mimosa are expensive at $80 for two people--I definitely can't drink quite that much haha. Can't say this place doesn't slay the visual and taste game tho. read more

This was a surprise destination for my partner's birthday and our first time coming over all. Let me tell you, it feels like the safest and coziest bar I've ever been in. And the gaming decor, arcade games, and twitch streams really tie the whole theme together. The drinks are the cherry on top of what makes this the best gaming bar around. The shots, the health and mana potions. And the staff were all so sweet and friendly. Even the owner popped out to greet us. It was a fun experience and I'm glad we decided to visit. We went there on a weeknight and I can't say enough good things about them! First of all, although it's a small space they make up for it with a vibrant ambience and really cool murals. We ordered their Super Smash fries which came along with 2 potions and was more than enough for 2 people. Shout-out to the server who came up with their hot sauce. It was spicy as we like it and hit the spot! For drinks, we got the Estus Flask and Potion of Strength and they were delicious. This whole combo was for $35 which I thought was fair. Vegetarian/Vegan options were also available. We had a good time trying the limited old time arcade games available but we mostly switched between Mario and Pacman!
