We use Resy, and...either the hostess misheard our party size, didn't really care, didn't really doublecheck to read our actual reservation, or whatever man, that's just your opinion. So, the backroom might have been a bit better suited for us olds, we were ushered into the front room. Not the window, but pretty darn close. Again, fun for people watching, inside and out. But damn it kids, if you have a DJ, I want to talk to Sir Vibes A Lot and ask them how they think thumping house music actually aids in digestion? Maybe I unconsciously started chewing to the unrelenting 4/4 beat, anything's possible. Now onto the menu, and back to the identity crisis. Like a lot of places, the York has a broad spectrum of offerings. Burger. Nashville Hot. Multiple pasta options. Sure, sure, sure. The porkchop with kimchi fried rice was the clear winner, hands down. The chicken, mashed and greens took second place (but I'll give ya a pro tip chef: the longer you cook your greens, the better they are). The York is an upscale dining experience like you might find in Manhattan. The menu is best described as modern American, with a raw bar, dry-aged steaks, trendy starters and entrées and a lengthy cocktail list. The York is at 247 W. Fayette St., the former home of bc Restaurant. Owner Danny Vault bought it from the original owners in November 2015. We were invited to join some friends for a birthday dinner. A reservation had been made for 515 on Saturday and we were sat right away. There is plenty of on street parking and also the Atrium parking garage directly across from The York. The restaurant is modernly decorated with a front and back room. We ordered shrimp cocktail, an order of Nashville Bleu chicken wings and shrimp tempura roll as appetizers. Our friends ordered the bacon cheeseburger mac and cheese and filet mignon, while my wife and I ordered the York burger. Our food was brought mostly in a timely manner, but unfortunately, we weren't very impressed. Our $16 shrimp cocktail had only 2 shrimp, my Nashville Hot wings were not Nashville Hot flavor at all - as a matter of fact, they had no heat. While our burger was pretty good, the bacon on it was under cooked and close to raw, and we all felt our other dishes were just okay. Our server was friendly and attentive, although we found it interesting that athleisure seems to be the York uniform. The atmosphere was good, although the small tables/chairs and being sat in the window where the floor raises and there's wood flooring where our chairs consistenly got stuck in the grooves between panels made it not the most comfortable. Glad we made it in and perfect timing to find seats at the bar. Otherwise make a reservation because even on a Tuesday evening, we were faced with a two hour wait. Our bartender/server was very sweet and helpful. She was attentive and took great care of us and keeping our drinks filled. The bar was beautiful and actually inspired us to think about building something like that for our home. Timing for the food was good and everything came out hot and delicious. Hubbys York burger was cooked to his liking and the fries had nice seasonings on them. My pasta was creamy, delicious and had a wonderful amount of mushrooms in it. Stopped here for a Friday night dinner after working while in town. We had a table of 5 and made reservations for 8:30. Downtown area - parking garage across the street, which with our stay ended up being $8 to park. Other than that, it's parallel parking which were all slammed up when we came thru. We had to wait a few minutes for our table to be prepared but sat quickly and put in our drink order. Dark decor and bright lights, large bar area, and some decent volume inside. I can see where this could be a well-traveled place for young professionals/college students to come on weekends and throw down. We ordered several starters - I and my soup: loaded baked potato. This was good - potato were pretty much flash cooked - edges were still sharp on the potato pieces. Flavor was good. I also ordered the meatballs for an additional starter for the table. These were very good: tangy sauce and two pieces of bread for scooping or making a meatball sand. Well done. A couple of the boys got poutine which I had a taste of - slim on the gravy but the flavor was good. As my entree I got the steak medium, and added mashed potatoes (bc the soup wasn't enough starch) and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were a little on the soggy side, but very good and the steak was prepared accurately. For dessert my bud Weese Hoitmin and I swapped desserts after the waitress didn't explain the bananas foster pie properly - so after it came out I went with that, the bananas were not done properly - very soggy and not sauced right. The most glaring issue was the Diet Coke - flavor was awful even after multiple tries. Overall - a great meal. read more

Late review! We had our first anniversary dinner in September, where I was getting sick & had little taste, yet flavors came through. Had to get the happy hour's aesthetic crab Rangoon, which were pretty typical but tasty, & oysters, which helped to clear the sinuses for dinner we shared the short rib ravioli & NY strip steak. From what I could taste, the ravioli was excellent and filling and the steak was again, a typical steak but the Spinach and horseradish were winners for me, and not just for clearing my taste buds! We've also gone to dance other times, but we are gettin old so we didn't spend too much time. The drinks we ordered were good, strong but we felt classy, especially the classic espresso martini. My wife and I have been here a few times when visiting our son. Their customer service was always a bit lacking but this one takes the cake. We moved our son into SU on 8/18 and we had reservations for dinner at 5 PM. Unfortunately, our day went South with my son's asthma. The York apparently has a 24 hour cancellation fee. There is no way to get a hold of them. They won't pick up the phone until 5 which is ridiculous as staff is there much earlier. When they finally picked up the phone at 5:10, we were told that we would be charged. They weren't interested in our issues. "We hear it all the time." Quite frankly, I'm not interested in their snotty behavior. Get a clue. Your Yelp rating is 3.5. Your reviews indicate that people think your customer service is poor. Now I understand why. People have real issues that sometimes happen and you should understand. We tried to contact you as soon as we knew we couldn't make it. Pick up the phone. It's not like we blew off the reservation and just not shown up as many do. Your behavior belies your pretentious attitude. It tells me all I need to know and it will be a cold day in Hell when I spend my money in your establishment ever again. read more

The York had ample plush couch seating, perfect for cocktail sipping. We squeezed in at the bar and had ordered a few items off the menu, assuming this would be a small plates style venue. It was anything but. The cast iron meatballs were about a quarter pound each. They were delicious and served in a light red marinara sauce with spoonfuls of ricotta. This came out with the artichoke flatbread. This was very rich and heavy. I'd recommend always sharing this. The Calabrian rigate ($23) was the best item and spicy, but enough to share between 4 people. If you come here, get this. You won't regret it. Drinks were balanced and well presented. We visited The York twice in one week due to our excellent first visit on a Sunday evening randomly deciding to go out to dinner with friends. Our return visit was on Thursday. Despite the large difference in patrons from Sunday to Thursday, service was equally timely on both days. The ambiance of this restaurant gives a NYC modern speak easy vibe. Painted tin ceilings, with modern chandeliers and fixtures, brick walls with dimly lit sconces really set the mood, and allow you to relax. The bar though not as long as some, is well stocked and manned by very talented tenders. I typically have a tough time getting a good old fashioned, but they made it perfectly! The raw bar at the front end adds a point of interest as well. Unique and not often seen if at all in Syracuse. The food was excellent both nights! For starters we have had the Gorgonzola fondu, the flatbread pizza, and the oysters. All were very good, the fondu was quite rich, but the kettle chips helped to downplay it enough that it had a good balance of creamy and crunchy. The flatbread had a canvas of flavor that kept you going back for more. And the oysters..... hands down the best I've had away from the coast. Not only were they quality in and of themselves but they were prepared with such care that there was no grit to them at all, not even one sliver of shell. Decadent, rich, and creamy. The entrées were Linguini Catalan, NY Strip (with the garlic sauce), and the chicken riggies. I had the linguini, and I felt it was very nicely done though a little strong on the garlic. The seafood in it however was cooked perfectly. My wife had the riggies and though she is a riggie snob, she was very satisfied with her meal. My friend had the steak..... not only was it cooked to perfection but that sauce added another dynamic to the already delicious flavor of the steak itself. The next night we had the scallops, Prosciutto wrapped halibut, and the short rib ravioli. The scallops were cooked well, with a nice sear on the outside that enhanced the seasoning that encrusted to them. The halibut, though tasty sounding, was unfortunately cooked a little dry. Not sure if they were depending on the prosciutto to add some fat, or if it was just a misstep that one time, but that was the only item lacking thus far. The Short rib ravioli was incredible! My wife ordered that and I was lucky enough that she was willing to share! Unlike anything I've ever eaten. Do yourself a favor and try it! The price was a little high in my opinion, however it was still worth it as we have had nothing but good experiences and food. And to be honest it's pretty much on par with most downtown restaurants save for one that is actually a bit more expensive. So all in all it was a good value. This is an epic restaurant! Most restaurants that try to set themselves apart in my opinion tend to miss the mark, The York set the mark for everyone else to strive for! Thank you for a great dining experience! A friend and I went to The York for the 1st time last night. It's a really cute place, a variety of seating options, and the staff are amazing! We started off sitting at the bar. It was happy hour and they have a fantastic happy hour menu in addition to a regular dinner menu. We each had a drink and a couple of oysters. This was my 1st oyster experience and I loved them. We decided to move to a table for a little more comfort. Our server brought out a basket of homemade pickles instead of bread. Cute idea and the pickles were amazing. We each ordered another drink and we decided we were going to do a few appetizers one at a time. We wanted to try several things on the menu but wanted to take our time. We started with Crab Ragoons. The presentation was amazing. The dipping sauce was fantastic. Even our fortunes hit home for each of us. The Crab Ragoons we ok. We ate them but it wasn't something we'd order again. The filling was sort of thin. Neither of us detected the cream cheese flavor and it wasn't real crispy. Next we ordered the poutine. It came out piled high in a cast iron skillet. It was layers with fries, braised short ribs, beef gravy, cheddar cheese curds, and bacon. It was one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was so huge and filling, we couldn't finish it. And unfortunately that ended our tour of the menu. Lol. We both decided we have to go back and try more items. We really enjoyed our experience. The York reminded me of being in NYC. I enjoyed the ambiance and nostalgia I felt of living in the city. The York had a wide variety of selections on the menu that would accommodate any palate. My family started with clams, crab rangoon, and bone marrow. I am not a seafood eater but the crab rangoon was pretty good and the presentation was very cute in a Chinese takeout container with chopsticks and 2 fortune cookies. We decided to also order the Bacon Burger Mac & Cheese appetizer. This was my favorite. It was reminiscent of Hamburger Helper and flavorful. I ordered the Short Rib Ravioli for dinner and was a little disappointed in it. The duxelle sauce ended up being a bit too sour. The ravioli tasted fine aside from the duxelle. Everyone else had ordered a burger or the chicken and enjoyed both entrees. At the end of our dinner at 730pm, we had ordered 3 coffees in which all came out luke warm-cold and watered down. The waitress informed us that she'd make a new batch since our coffees were poured from what was left of the batch they made at the start of the shift. She returned with 3 hot, fresh coffees and was really kind about it. Overall it was a decent experience and was worth trying out. I think next time I'll go with something else on the menu. read more

The York is a must if you are in Syracuse. The inside has lots of dark woods and the atmosphere has an overall industrial feel to it. As soon as you walk in, to the left is the raw bar which has a good selection of oysters. Their seafood tower is top notch....complete with colossal shrimp, lobster tails, and oysters, you can't go wrong. They also have a couple sushi appetizers which are very tasty. I have had some great steaks here but normally order a seafood option. Today I ordered the blackened scallops. The presentation is very nice and the Portion size is good for just about anyone. I was not expecting this kind of restaurant in Syracuse. I really felt like I was in New York City. Very hip, modern and not to mention the food was especially good. The atmosphere was amazing. My husband and I stopped in a a Friday night without a reservation. It was our first time here. We were told 15 minutes for table and were probably seated within ten. Our waitress Amanda was wonderful! She gave helpful menu recommendations and was friendly and attentive. We didn't realize there was an outdoor patio out back and she happily moved us to the patio after we ordered. Quiet patio with white lights surrounded by brick buildings was beautiful on a late summer evening. I had the salmon and my husband had filet and lobster tail. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly! I am actually shocked that this place was only rated 3.5. We will definitely be back. Really liked everything I ate. We ordered happy hour oysters (only $1), margs & Old Fashioned, tenderloin skewers, bone marrow, Truffle Strozzapreti, and the Halibut. It was my brother's first time having oysters, Bone Marrow, and Halibut, and he loved them all. These are also the best $1 oysters I've ever had. Our waitress was lovely - everything was quick except the final round of oysters we ordered to close our meal, but the restaurant had filled up very quickly at that point so I expect the kitchen was just busy. The truffle pasta was MASSIVE and we took half home - it was flavorful but oversalted. My tenderloin was good, but my friend's was tough. These reasons are why only 4/5 stars. I made 630pm reservations for my friends birthday dinner on a Wednesday evening. My friend arrived a few minutes early and was able to order a bottle of Prosecco for her celebratory dinner with ease, the bar was not crowded at all. We surveyed the scene and there was an open table in the front room right by the windows with a view of the outdoor seating and city street. We both liked the upbeat atmosphere of the bar area over the more intimate ambiance of the dining room. Do get at least a glimpse of the plant wall though if you are not eating in the dining room, unfortunately I was not able to take a picture as a large table was dining there. The hostess very pleasantly checked with wait staff and was able to accommodate our request to seat at the adorable table by front window. She placed our bottle on the table and promptly were served waters and complimentary pickles. I have not seen that before interesting, I am not a pickle connoisseur but apparently there are two varieties and one on the more zesty side. We ordered Crab Rangoons which were half priced as part of the 5pm-7pm happy hour special. They were tasty! We shared a wedge salad as well, you can never go wrong with the wedge, yum! I had the Linguine Catalan that was packed with fresh clams, shrimp, Chorizo in a white wine garlic butter sauce. This dish definitely packs a spicy kick which I love. It did not keep well as leftovers so maybe lay off the appetizers or share dishes. My friend had the short rib Ravioli in a Bordelaise sauce and served with Wild Mushrooms. She enjoyed her entree as well. We would normally skip dessert but not for a Birthday dinner. My friend chose the Brownie Sundae that was served with the sparkler. Service was prompt and friendly, we will definitely be back to try other dishes. Happy hour would be a great time to go for an inexpensive treat. I almost forgot I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the check at how reasonable the prices were for all this food! The vibe was decent but our server was VERY off putting. He was very cold to us and seemed as if he did not want to be there. We ordered about $250 worth of food and when he brought the bill he flipped it open and held it wanting us to place the card in it with out seeing the receipt. When my husband went to grab it the server tried to hold on to it as if we weren't gonna pay it. a cool dinner lounge spot that turns into a nightclub on weekends. i basically only come here during happy hour as the regular menu is pretty pricey. happy hour is weekdays 5-7 and it's amazing. $1 oysters, $8 cocktails, $7 wines, cheap bites too (burger and beer for $15 is a personal fave and comes with a huge burger, fries, and sometimes the server lets you substitute the beer for wine or a cocktail which is such a deal). drinks are good, the happy hour food is good for the discount price but i personally wouldn't pay full price for it. great date night spot overall! as for the club part, it's good but i personally think the cover is excessive for what this place turns into. still fun though but it can get pretty cramped as the main dining area by the bar is not huge for nightlife. read more
