There was nobody in there but us, and it was very quiet which was different since we usually go on weekends. It was interesting, just didn't know that was the vibe on weekdays. Tallman is one of the best places to eat in Syracuse, which you might not expect since at first glance the cocktails are the main draw. The food menu is modestly sized, but you know that everything will be delicious and you'll leave dreaming of it for weeks. Chef Kiki is a genius. Everything she creates delivers. I was lucky enough to get to enjoy the Valentine's menu over the weekend. For my drink, I went with the pornstar martini, which I wasn't thrilled at having to order out loud (lol), but couldn't resist because I'm a sucker for all things passionfruit. It was gorgeous and even more delicious. Pure nectar that erased any sting of the vodka beneath. We started with the frito misto, seafood in a champagne batter with a tangy remoulade dipping sauce. Each piece of fried fish was huge, plump, and succulent -- I found myself wondering where they sourced their seafood from because it was so massive and juicy. Perfectly battered, with the ideal balance of crisp salty breading and juicy plump scallops, shrimp, and cod. The lemon caesar was every bit as refreshing as it sounded, and a very nice sized portion. The tangy lemon dressing, crunchy croutons, and smoothly grated cheese were harmonious. Last but not least, the pasta was life-changing. A homemade pappardelle with a creamy bechamel and the most perfect fresh mushrooms. Truly divine. I've had a lot of pasta in my life but this was truly some of the best. Service was attentive but relaxed -- we weren't rushed. The glow of the candlelight and the gorgeous decor, exposed brick and golden art deco accents, vintage glassware, made for a gorgeous ambiance. WOW!! So impressed with this place! It is the perfect spot for a date night or girls night out. My husband and I tried it for the first time last year, but I was pregnant at the time and could only have a mocktail. They do have amazing mocktails, though, if that's what you're looking for! We had a reservation, but didn't need one as there were several tables available. We were promptly seated and put in our drink orders. The drinks here are like no other place in the area. I went with the Chichenita and my husband had the penicillin. The prickly pear cold foam was amazing. Their regular menu is limited, offering various appetizers, charcuterie boards and paninis, but we went for the Dining Weeks menu. I ordered the crab cake, smothered chicken and chocolate chip cookie. My husband had the stuffed portobello, seafood stew and cheesecake. For a small cocktail bar with an even smaller kitchen behind the bar, we were so impressed with the quality of the dishes. The single chef worked her magic and produced top-level dishes that you would find at a 5-star restaurant. Everything came out hot and stayed warm the entire time I was eating it. I went with my husband to celebrate late Valentine's Day. We enjoyed the centralized location downtown and proximity to a parking lot. We ordered the beet tartar, she's bored, and truffle oil flat bread. Ruffle oil can easily overpower a dish, but this flatbread was a perfect balance. I also typically don't like beets, but love this dish. The specialty cocktails were pretty good, but used a lot of ingredients that I am not familiar with. Well it is not bad to expand my horizons, it did take a few sips to get used to. The bartender was very attentive and checked in to make sure everything was good. The atmosphere was cozy but could see this place being packed and crowded when it's not middle of winter and during school break (we visited early January) The cocktails where great and the bar staff knew their spirits. We were lucky to sit across from the food prep area which gave us the opportunity to watch and talk with Chef David. His menu is out of this world . What an amazing 4 course menu with cocktail pairings (or mocktails). These were very well thought out mocktails with carefully selected ingredients and flavors. Our menu was themed "Latin America", with a course from Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela and Mexico.The dishes were plated beautifully, the service was first class. The manager did an excellent job of reviewing each dish and each cocktail. Food allergies were taken into account. The 1st course - Hominy,eggs,cojito cheese and cilantro. 2nd course - Arepa with mozzarella, black beans and avocado. 3rd course - Roast chicken, corn, habanero, plantains, rice and yellow squash. 4th course - Dulce de Leches cake. We also had sorbet between the first two courses. Chef Kiki's food was packed with flavor and expertly prepared. The food and drinks were coordinated nicely. One of my favorite places to grab drinks in downtown Syracuse. Right in the heart of the city, there are lots open, along with public parking garages (both for a fee), and on street parking. Walking into Tallman's the vibe gives fancy for sure, but the staff is very nice and attentive. The mixologists are super friendly and take pride in their craft. Tallman's has small plates on their menu to snack on while enjoying one of their many specialty cocktails. Most of the small plates and apps are geared towards seafood, so that's where it misses for me. Having a variety of small plates with less heavy seafood options would give this place 5/5 stars. If wines and specialty drinks aren't your go to, they also have a variety of liquors and beers. I went to Tallman's for the first time a couple months ago. I went with a friend for happy hour, my friend had gone before. I've been dreaming of when I'll be returning hahaha. I started with an espresso martini because I've been seeing it all over social media, I've never had it before. It was delicious, so smooth and definitely can't wait to get it again. Also I'll be trying other establishments versions since I heard not everyone uses fresh espresso. I got the lobster roll slider and it was delicious and for a slider they did not skimp on the lobster meat. My friend got their red sangria, and the burrata and warm olives and she said she enjoyed both. Walking in I love the coziness of the place, we sat at the bar. The price was great for happy hour I would definitely head back during that time or for a light dinner. We went to Tallman Cocktail Bar for a group event on a Sunday (a day they are not normally open). The event started with a cocktail hour that they didn't seem prepared for... One of the people behind the bar wasn't very helpful or friendly, but ALL other people at the place were super, super helpful, friendly and professional. The food and cocktails that followed were paired masterfully and made you think about the pairing and flavors, wondering what the chef's thoughts were and why they made those choices. I wish I could give them 5 stars as I typically enjoy the atmosphere (on less busy night personally) and the service is pretty good overall but my only major holdback is prices. I considered a good mocktail as we were hopping around for girls night and I wanted to pace myself but I could NOT justify over $13 for a zero proof cocktail even if it actually contains the zero proof liquors. I definitely understand upscale cocktails costing more than the usual but the drinks seem to consistently go up in price. I spent over $18 before tip on this very small dirty gin martini. I did request Hendricks and was willing to pay the price but it didn't feel great. BUT aside from the cost and how little alcohol I know was in it, it was a phenomenal extra dirty. They took me seriously with the "EXTRA" which is hard to get for some reason. The bartenders aren't the most personable but that probably comes with a busy night so as long as I get a good drink I can let it slide but it does dampen the overall experience a bit. I'll keep it in rotation for a nice drink on a night out very occasionally but it's not a go-to for me. read more

This past week, we said goodbye to a coworker of 20 years. I wanted to give her a proper sendoff so tallmans was of course my first choice. And proper it was. The ambience at Tallman is wonderful to begin with. The venue was perfect for my gathering of about 15 to 20 people. Tried the Tallman Cocktail Co for the first time this weekend. I believe they just opened this week! It's located in the same building as The Hops Spot but has its own entrance on Fayette St. It does connect to The Hops Spot although they don't want you bringing food or drinks between the two, which makes sense because they are totally different atmospheres and have different glassware etc. I got a cocktail with gin, shrub and rosemary and it was delicious. They have a small menu of charcuterie and appetizer type foods. The bar has a very upscale almost speakeasy like vibe. I'll definitely be back! read more

Five stars for ambience. The only downfall is the super bright light coming from the back hallway. Some curtains would help that tremendously For being a cocktail "club" with more table seating then bar seating, they do not seem to have any kind of cocktail waiters for serving tables. It took ablut 15 minutes and eventually us getting a spot at the bar to get actual service. I strongly suggest if they are going to have significantly more seating then bar space, they get at least one cocktail server. There is not really even a dedicated spot at the bar to go and stand to order a drink, you have to reach around and over others. The cocktails are good. I've had better and much worse. Their happy hour special pricing is a steal. The best part of this place is the food. From presentation to taste everything was excellent, it just took a while, but it appears to be a one person operation. It's got a dark, 1920s ambiance, amazing cocktails with unique flavors made in house as well as classics, and the bartenders are very knowledgeable on their cocktails and spirits. The first thing out of the waiter's mouth was we need to wrap up by 9pm because no minors allowed. No problem, we were just going to have a couple drinks. I've previously had great experiences with the bartender Alex and chef Kiki and have gone to Tallman's about 10 times since they opened about a month ago. I just went today following an event and the bartenders, Jack and the trainer with a mustache were horrible. First, we ordered drinks and asked for waters and menus where we were told the water was set up over on a different table and we were told to help ourselves. They ignored me and my group of four, took forever to take orders in which we had to move seats to where we thought we would be better served. Second, the mojito and espresso martini were so inconsistent with previous times. The martini didn't have the orange spritz and the mojito didn't come with muddled mint which it previously did. After I broke up the mint garnish into my own mojito and when asked if this was something new, the bartender said it wasn't his fault and got the trainer who said, "as you can see, I muddled the mint" in which I replied I did that, not you. Upon talking with the trainer about how awful this service was, he laughed in our face and continued to argue with my group. Third, I tried to pay and the trainer refused to take the credit card and said he was "waiting for him" referring to the only male member of our group, even though it was my card not his? When we complained to another staff member about the trainer, they said that happens a lot and it doesn't surprise them that this happens. So unprofessional and inconsiderate when all we needed was accountability for their mistakes. So unhappy with this one experience, not sure I would go back or recommend. read more
