A few of my neighbors mentioned that China Pavillion had a small but mighty buffet I should check out. So, I did just that. China Pavillions buffet hit all the basics in my humble opinion. They offered traditional items such as fried rice, lo mein, a seafood option, egg rolls, chicken, and beef options. It's definitely enough to get the job done. You won't leave hungry by any means. I personally enjoyed their beef in garlic sauce. It was very tender & flavorful! The dining area was very clean and updated. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I would definitely suggest giving them a try, especially if you're on a budget. Their lunch buffet is less than $10! I think that's a pretty great deal. read more

Nice find for me. Apart from Tang Flavour it's the only Chinese restaurant serving duck. It's a proper restaurant too where ample seating is available. The crispy duck was delicious. Nothing like I expected but really good nonetheless. Don't expect pancakes though. Served with rice and a choice of sauce. A very decent Hoisin. The Mrs had the Singapore Noodles, also excellent. We wanted some dim sum and this place had some good reviews. We were traveling back east and decided to check this place out. The interior is old and can use an update but the service is good. It's family run and they seem to be a really nice family though they're a bit short staffed. Everything went quick after their children showed up to help. We tried a few items: Fried shrimp balls was good Chicken feet in red pepper sauce we didn't care for. It was a bit cold and we didn't care for the sauce. Steamed pork buns were just ok. A little sweet but it felt like it was missing something. Long Beach noodles: DELICIOUS. It came in a sweet and savory sauce topped with fried garlic. The noodles had a nice crispy char on it. Deep fried bean curd rolls w/ pork and shrimp: It was ok. It seamed to be steamed and not fried as it was cold and wet and not crispy. The sauce we weren't a big fan of. Slightly sour. Beef stomach(tripe): Steamed dish and it came with peppers and onions. It was too salty. ROASTED DUCK: We got a half duck. This is the of the show. Definitely one of the best ducks I've had. The skin was crispy and the sauce was very nice. A little sweet and tangy. I kinda wish we ordered a whole one to take home. Overall, it's ok but I'm sure with some updates they'd be great. Ordered takeout at about 6 on a Tuesday evening. I ordered the crab rangoon, general tso's combination dinner, and an order of Singapore noodles. I was told 15-20 minutes for my pickup. Timing was right on the nose and total came to about $30. Seems right for the amount of food I ordered. The crab rangoon were tasty, albeit a little different than what I'm used to. Typically they're shaped like a little triangle but these are little crimped balls that somewhat resemble a small octopus. Definitely smaller than the triangle variant but still good nonetheless. The general tso's was better than I remember. I've ordered from China Pavilion quite a few times in the past and always found a couple of pieces of chicken that were stringy and tough, but that was not the case this time. The chicken was tender and covered in ample sauce. This dish is not spicy, something to note as I've found this varies a bit place to place. The dinner also came with an egg roll and rice. I ordered simple white rice and both the rice and the egg roll were adequate if not exceptional. The Singapore noodles were new for me. I ordered them after seeing them in a couple other reviews. They were quite good, but not "fiery" as I've seen in other reviews. I will note that they could do with some type of sauce as they were a bit on the dry side, but the flavor was on point. Overall solid Chinese takeout that left me with little to complain about. I'll be ordering again. read more

Haven't been here in a while so I wanted to stop in for Sunday when they feature a dim sum menu. The service was very good and everyone was very friendly. I ordered 4 items. Shrimp balls, steamed pork dumplings, scallion pancake and Sticky rice and chicken. I had 2 very nice dishes, 1 okay and one not good to my liking at all. My favorite was the Sticky rice and chicken, the rice was a beautiful texture sticking together perfectly to eat with your hands with a little bit of chicken inside and has a lightly sweet flavor. I also enjoyed the shrimp balls, coated with panko(?) Very crisp and hot. The pork dumplings were okay... seemed like they were premade, maybe frozen and reheated? The scallion pancake just didn't seem right, I've had many in lots of other places, this was not flaky, it was all brown and very dry with almost no scallions. They made it right and took it off the bill, so all was good. They serve hot tea which is a big plus for me and I had several dipping sauces, which were great. read more

I unfortunately was not a fan of China Pavilion. Order take out tonight and while everyone was quick and very hot even we I got it home, taste wise, it wasn't very good. We ordered general tso and sesame chicken. The chicken on both dishes was very very breaded and the sauce seemed off. Neither tasted like you would typically find in tables dishes. The price was to be expected, about $31 for both with rice and their noodle chips. I don't think I would order from them again with better options in the area. read more

We were put off a little by the exterior of the restaurant, especially because there was construction right outside. However, the inside is remarkably clean and pleasant. The food was excellent. It's the first Chinese restaurant we've found since moving from the west coast that completely fits the bill. Everything was fresh and delicious. We had hot and sour soup, wonton soup, sesame chicken, mushu chicken, egg rolls, and general tso chicken. Everything was excellent. We'll definitely be back! read more

This place is truly outstanding. I have only been for their Sunday Dim Sum but the dim sum is amazing and comparable to dim sum I've had in major cities. I personally recommend the shrimp balls, roasted duck, taro shrimp, tofu wraps, and Long Beach noodles. Service is excellent- the place is family run and the owners are very sweet. This is a place to go if you're in the area and want some Chinese. I wouldn't go out of my way necessarily to go, but it's satisfactory. The service is a bit slow, but the employees are friendly and talkative. They made lots of jokes and were attentive. This isn't a bad review. I'm just saying I've had better, but you may find something you love. They have offer a sit down experience, with those crispy fried wontons and the orange (duck?) sauce and hot tea. I adore Chinese restaurants that do this. Which goes to show how many authentic and delicious sit Chinese restaurants I know in Syracuse that I rave about something that should probably be more common. They also do take out. The entrees were well-portioned and freshly prepared, coming out piping hot. They do that optical illusion where they have a gigantic wall mirror that makes the room look 2x bigger. Just a comment, honestly it was a smart move of them. Everyone liked their meal. There were lots of options to choose from and they offered a dinner special. I would go here again and try other things! Anyways, I went with three friends and afterwards we drove to the target in Camillus. It was a fun trip on a weekday after classes and the area was interesting to drive around, although it was fairly dark and I kept saying "lol guys this is like in a movie where you're driving around graveyards and weird neighborhoods and then your car stalls or something and there's a murderer stalker serial guy." Okay I hope that last comment didn't dissuade you from coming. Actually the more I think about this place the more I think it would another great adventure to come. Under new owners, the prices have gone up substantially. I ordered take-out of just 2 orders of ribs (4 each; there is no "large" or "small" size any longer), and 3 egg rolls. Total bill was $32. When I got home, there was a shard of a pork bone in my egg roll that cracked my tooth, which I have to get pulled. Oh well, never coming back. Their appetizers were the only thing they used to cook well, anyway. read more

They failed to cook or package a dish I ordered for delivery. Plus, I had to request a refund for what I did not get. Added to that I requested fried rice as my side and got regular rice instead. All in all this was a subpar performance from a place that usually does good food. read more

My wife and I decided to come here and try out their special Dim Sum menu they only have on Sundays. We had heard some good things about it and I have also enjoyed their lunch buffet in the past. So the first thing you will notice is the most depressing part. Just like every other place that has done Dim Sum in the Syracuse area, they have you order off of a Dim Sum menu. I understand why they do it, but it drives me nuts. I love Dim Sum for the full experience and its one of my favorite things to do when I go to NYC. No one does it here in Syracuse because their foot traffic for Dim Sum is too light. Here is the thing though, people would come eventually if you did it like that. It takes time to build a Dim Sum reputation. If someone in this city did the carts and traditional style, they would eventually make a killing with the right marketing! Okay, enough of that rant... So on to the good stuff. The food was actually really good. Most of it tasted home made and we pretty much ate everything they served. My wife was very upset though, she ordered a tripe with radish dish and it had no radish. People who don't eat Dim Sum regularly might not notice, but you won't get that by my wife who is Chinese and loves Dim Sum with a passion. It wasn't a cheap dish either. The cost overall was a bit high too. We ended up paying over 45 dollars. We did order a lot, but that is kind of the idea with Dim Sum. So I knocked 1 star off for the pricing and the lack of radish in my wife's dish, but I knocked another one off for the next issue. I almost knocked 2 stars off for it. So my wife was tearing her beef off of her teriyaki beef stick and it came flying off and landed on the floor. She was super bummed because it was the first bite and so I asked our waitress if she would get us another one. The plate comes with two, but I asked for just one to replace her ruined piece. (they can do this because its freshly made) After some confusion, she understood and said okay. When I got my bill I saw the charges for 4 dollars for the beef sticks and that wasn't an issue. What was the issue was that the girl charged me 2 dollars to replace the dropped food. That was so aggravating. I get food cost, but you will lose more than 2 bucks for bad customer service. We don't intend to come back mainly for that reason. That 2 bucks in food savings cost them many meals we would have eaten in the future. read more

I'm incredibly impressed by the positive experience I had this week with China Pavilion. I accidentally contacted them on Monday thinking I was calling a Chinese restaurant across town near my home. When I realized my mistake (my fiancée was at the other restaurant and staff couldn't find my order ‍), I called China Pavilion to explain I wouldn't be picking up my order and wanted to pay by phone to cover the cost (not their fault I'm distractible!). They were so understanding, insisting I not pay for an order I wouldn't be picking up. I was truly taken back by their generosity and kindness. Thank you again!! read more

Went here for Sunday lunch after church. My boyfriend said he was craving Dim Sum after mass. I love it when a guy can tell you what he wants to eat instead of saying "I don't care, you pick." LOL I'm never one of those girls who will say that since I'm obsessed with Yelp and there's a ton of places I actually do want to go to. Most of the time when I'm with my friends I'll be picking the places since they're the ones who say they don't care where we go. I'm forgetting what we got but my boyfriend ordered all the food for us to share. If I remember correctly we got pork buns, dumplings, sio mai and I forgot what else ha ha. It was all good and there were hardly any people so it was a nice smaller and intimate restaurant. Service was good. Not a bad place to get Chinese Dim Sum in Syracuse. read more

Great, authentic Chinese food! The service is great, and they are all welcoming and friendly. The highlight for me is all of the gluten free options available. The waiter was knowledgeable and answered several questions I had about the menu. They can make about 95% of their menu gluten free! This place is ALWAYS great. I've been coming here for years and eaten dim sum, buffet lunch, and (of course) dinner here. All soooo good. My current favorite is the Singapore noodles, which are skinny rice noodles dry fried with veggies, shrimp, egg, and curry powder... it sounds weird but they are amazing. Spicy! They also have the expected Chinese food options. I think their crab rangoons are the best in the area. The only reason I don't eat their food more is because they don't deliver and I always forget about them because they're tucked away in a strip mall. I almost forgot to mention that they are EXTREMELY accommodating of food aversions/allergies and they've never messed up and accidentally given me meat once. I have a friend that's gluten intolerant and she comes here often because they're great with that too. And the people who work there are also so nice and courteous. Go! read more

Disappointing. This used to be one of the better Chinese restaurants in Syracuse. Not now. My soup was warm rather than hot and it was pretty tasteless, which is a pretty sad state of affairs with hot and sour soup. CP's hot & Sour used to be among the best. My wife had wonton soup and the broth was like colored water. Neither of our entrees was notable. Mine was General Tso's and I never did find a single pepper. Too sweet; too bland. No heat at all. My wife had chicken chow mein and the chunks of vegetables were huge. The source of their egg rolls has apparently changed too, because they were not very good either. Even the napkins have gone cheap... The crispy noodles were really stale. And the prices have risen sharply (which is pretty sad now with virtually al restuarants too). Service was mediocre. As I said: disappointing.... and this is a place we've been going to for years. Hopefully it was because it was a few days after New Year's. In a few weeks we'll give it another chance. I've been going to this place for years. I usually get takeout, but the interior is nice and the staff are friendly, so it's a great place to eat in as well. The food is generally excellent and less greasy than typical American Chinese food. Their chicken with mixed vegetables in garlic sauce is especially good. Highly recommended! read more

My wife and I came here with the new Eat Local NY card that gives $5 dinners off $25 or more. We ordered wanton soup and got two dinner combo dishes. When you arrive, they give you the fried chips to dip in duck sauce as a little snack. Wanton soup is pretty standard. Spring rolls did not have a whole lot going on content-wise. The food is just okay for a sit-down style Chinese restaurant. My shrimp/broccoli dish was nice and had a lot of shrimp but sauce just wasn't what I was expecting. Wait staff was very friendly. Other than to try the dim sum (which they only offer on Sundays) I don't think we will likely be back, there's a lot of Chinese restaurants a lot closer to where we are in the Syracuse Area. read more

The dim sum plates are very small, the pork tastes generally porkish, and the seafood is under-seasoned. The scallops resembled what sneaker leather would taste like. I would definitely not come here and opt for more flavorful fare anywhere else. There were a lot of people at the restaurant, surprisingly, but I would go for a Big Mac saturated in ketchup and mayo over the bland, freezer to steamer fare here. I give them some stars for proficient waitresses and a friendly owner. The decor is reminiscent of the 1960s and the tea was so dark and oversteeped that I expect serious caffeine crises tonight. Coworkers from the Camillus area have said that China Pavilion is the best Chinese food around. While I can think of one or two local spots that would top my list, China Pavilion is up there with them. Hot, fresh food, cozy atmosphere, prompt and attentive service are all reasons to visit China Pavilion and enjoy classic Chinese comfort food. This review is based just on their buffet. The true testament of any Chinese restaurant, is their fried rice. If your fried rice is subpar, typically the rest of your food is as well. Their rice was ok at best, the general Tao was soggy, luke warm and sauce tasted burnt, it was almost black. The buffet itself was extremely tiny. Small selection, most of the food was warm, not hot. Which I found odd, as they were constantly refilling the buffet because the stations are so small. I am shocked, because there were so many good reviews for this place on Yelp. I'm assuming the reviews are for their dim sum that they only serve on Sundays. All of the other Syracuse area buffets are by far much better. read more

This restaurant is a hidden gem in Syracuse which I just discovered a couple months ago... a secret, amazing chinese restaurant that makes their own sauces instead of buying the syrupy Sysco crap that most places use. The staff is impeccably friendly every time I go there, and I haven't had a single bad meal there yet.
