I love Chinese but the Buffets in the area are better than this place but the service was really good.

I have been here a couple of times for Dim Sum sundays (served until 2:30PM). The dim sum here is okay. I'm not sure if it comes frozen, but it doesn't have the same authentic taste that I am used to. The dim sum does have a subtle Vietnamese spin to it (the owners are Vietnamese), which is fine. I have tried just about everything on the dim sum menu, and the only things that I do enjoy are their chicken feet, chow fun, and roast duck. I attend school in Syracuse and I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease, which means I am required to cut out all gluten from my diet. In April, I came across a blog online that mentioned that China Pavilion could accommodate gluten free diets. I didn't see anything about it on their website, but I decided to give it a shot -- and I was thrilled! They can make almost anything on their menu gluten free (I had sesame chicken and house fried rice) and they even can make gluten free egg rolls (DELICIOUS!). So excited that I found this place and wish I had found it sooner -- now I have to wait almost a year before I can try it again! Highly recommend to anyone who follows a GF diet and I would suggest that the restaurant advertises this capability more! Truly a great surprise. read more

THE best and only quality Chinese restaurant in the area. Travel all the way from bville just to get takeout and sometimes sit down for dinner or lunch. We have been eating here for 32 years, and still loving it! Our favorite choice combination is "salt & pepper shrimp", Mongolian beef, and shrimp mei fun. Sometimes "fish maw" soup is added, but that is not on the menu listings and for those willing to experiment (my son and I love it!!). Went here after seeing an article on syracuse.com about the dim sum. Was willing to give it a try because I LOVE LOVE LOVE dim sum and there just aren't any places in Syracuse. We got the Siew Mai (#2), Fried Dumpling (#4), Fried Shrimp with Taro (#11), Scallion Pancakes (#13), Long beach noodles (#14) and Deep fried bean curd rolls (#25). We LOVE LOVE LOVED the long beach noodles, they were exactly what I was craving and love to get whenever I go to dim sum. The scallion pancakes were just okay, would have preferred more scallion (said my husband) and the sauce was excited. The siew mai was a little dried out, maybe steamed too long. The fried dumplings were okay, the fried shrimp with taro was good, but I would have preferred a thinner crust, but I loved the crunch. The bean curd was gross, probably just not my taste since I'm not big on bean curd to begin with. Overall, I would go back for the long beach noodles alone. Everything was delivered after it was finished, so it was very freshly cooked, which is a bonus. The dim sum is only on sundays which sucks, because I swear I might go there everyday for those noodles if I could, they were to die for!! read more

I REALLY wanted to like this place, as it's pretty much in my neighborhood. Haven't had it in well over a year because I felt the food lacked flavor. Gave it another try today, terrible. Wonton soup looked and tasted like yellow water...no flavor whatsoever. I had high hopes for the wontons as I saw the owner stuffing fresh ones as I walked in, tasted like a ball of flour. General Tso sauce was just a starchy brown sauce with again...no flavor, occasional pepper making it tolerable. Needless to say I'll keep my business a few more miles up the road at China House. I specifically went to this restaurant for the dim sum, because I'm a HUGE dim sum fan. This appears to be the only dim sum option in the Syracuse area. They only serve dim sum on Sundays for lunch. Upon arrival, you are asked if you are here for the regular menu or dim sum. I requested dim sum. I was provided with a two page dim sum menu (written in Vietnamese instead of Chinese) instead of coming by with carts of options. I ordered 6 different dishes. While they were okay and served to scratch an itch I had for dim sum, it would never suffice in an area where dim sum was more common. There was not much in terms of variety, some of the dishes listed on the dim sum menu are not traditional dim sum (more of the Americanized Chinese fare and/or Vietnamese fare), and the quality wasn't top notch. The service, however, was outstanding. My water glass was never empty and everyone was just absolutely eager to help. I will return here to continue to scratch my dim sum itch, but I wish they could expand the variety and have a slightly higher quality dim sum offering. read more

I ordered shrimp coconut curry that was delicious, but an order of moo shu shrimp was burnt and bitter tasting which is why I only give it 4 stars. I know that people have commented about the authenticity of the dim sum, but I don't have enough knowledge to speak to that. All I know is that there is great food and lovey service. We Like coming to eat here on Sundays for the Dim Sum menu, so this Sunday we gathered a few friends and when we showed up they were closed. There was a sign on the door that said the were closed from July 1st- the 14th In Observance of independence day. Very disappointing...I think that is something they could put on their website so people don't waste time and gas driving there only to find out they are randomly closed. My colleague and I were on business in Syracuse. He must eat a competely gluten-free diet and avoid cross-contamination. We found this restuarant on the local celiac disease website and decided to give it a try. It was clean, the atmosphere was attractive, and the food was delicious! The waitress was quite knowledgeable regarding the ingredients in each dish and the way in which it was prepared. We arrived at about 8 p.m., and the service could not have been quicker! The following day, at my colleague's request, we returned again for lunch. We chatted with the owner of the restaurant who has taken a genuine interest in providing gluten-free dishes. He has traveled and sought out ingredients that are difficult to find. I know that the next time my partner is anywhere in Western New York, he will return to this restaurant. Friends who know better than we enjoy the dim sum immensely--these are folks who order half a dozen dishes from the menu and know the cuisine well enough to make special requests, which are always indulged. This is really sad I've been eating here for years my daughter had her first Dim Sum Sunday brunch in this restaurant. I ordered a take out order to treat myself here's the order 1 spring roll, Seafood Soup for two, Crisp Duck (boneless) Fried Rice and steamed vegetables. So at the ridiculous price of $8.99 the so called Seafood soup came in two 4 oz containers and had one small scallop and one medium shrimp in a weird attempt at a sickening overly sweet hot and sour broth. How is that Seafood soup? No fried Rice just plain old white rice which I didn't order. The Crispy Duck was sitting around all day and not crispy or even hot for that matter $15.95 If that isn't bad enough I bit into a vertebral neck bone in my Boneless Duck. I mean they cut the Duck up into manageable pieces and couldn't make sure there wasn't any choking hazardous vertebrae in it? At least my snow peas and broccoli were steamed correctly! Now for the real insult I called them back and told them about the seafood soup and sans fried rice and was told the price of seafood has gone up and that's all you get. New flash rip-offs 500 ft away is one of the best seafood places in Syracuse and for $9.99 I can buy a half pound of large scallops for the rest of the $21.00 I mis-spent 1/4 Lb of Willa-point Oyster's and 1/4 lb of large Shrimp plus the clam chowder has more clams than anywhere I have ever ordered it cost $4.99 two servings. Do yourself a favor don't waste the money there's much better Chinese around for way better prices. Oh what did they say about the missing Fried Rice? Can you come back and get it right now!! You Think they'd give me some sort of coupon for another time to satisfy a longtime customer that's never had a complaint. A lot of the menu items are not what was expected (for example, General Tso has a different taste than I am used to). But the szeschuan sauce that comes with the Dragon and Phoenix have me coming back every time. We only order Dragon and Phoenix, and I usually get extra sauce on the side :) read more
