Locals recommended this restaurant when I asked about Chinese buffet. We hadn't had buffet for 3yrs, since Covid19. We were happy with the Flaming Grill. It is a HUGE place, but it was lightly visited while we were there at 5pm on a Thursday. There were ~5 islands of hot food, 1 of cold w salads, a sushi area, an icecream novelty case, 4-6 soups. There was a Hibatchi area in back corner but I didn't try it. There were many types of breaded, fried, sauced chicken...all a bit dried out. The coconut shrimp was a little dried out. The green beans were tasty but limp. The rice noodles were a bit plain. I did not try the fish nor roast beef. BF said the pork was dry but good. But the SHELLFISH was really exceptional. Clams of different sizes, muscles in sauce, cold shrimp, hot shrimp, shrimp boil. My BF was like a bear in honey! Everything was clean but the place smelled oddly of petroleum? So I visited on a Wednesday evening hoping that with dinner pricing they would have steak available on the hibachi and that was not part of the offering tonight. The food was just okish at 5pm and it was really dead in there. The staff is friendly and the food some cold I. The steam trays. All in all this visit wasn't as good as one on the weekend. The ambiance is not bad for a buffet but the tables are starting to show their age and mismatched silverware is a little boho. All in all it was ok for some Chinese. It was $18.99 for dinner. Let me start by saying, I'm not a huge buffet lover. So, I am not going to be overly satisfied with a buffet place. BUT, this wasn't bad. They had a decent variety of food. The atmosphere was great. I loved the clouds and lighting around the bar area. It wasn't loud, the service was friendly and attentive. The thing I dislike about buffets in general is that all the food seems to taste the same. After being seated next to a very rowdy group of people we were 75% through our meal the table beside us announced they had a COCKROACH in their chicken and were able to show us it. We were heading to the airport to pick up some people and had time for lunch, and saw the flaming grill. The place is huge inside and almost empty, but it was 2:30 so almost ready for the dinner. The food was your typical Asian buffet, but very little looked fresh. The sushi was really not fresh looking at all so only tried two pieces. The cheese imitation crab was tasty. Lots of fried things that we didn't try. When the dinner hour came they asked if we wanted to upgrade and eat some of the added items, but we were filled and didn't have room. It has a really great selection of food for a buffet and the seating area is very large. They had a handicap accessible table for my friend which was a huge plus, it's hard for her to get around. Everything that I sampled was fresh and hot, nothing seemed to be sitting out for too long and trays were constantly being refilled. Service was very nice. My favorite dish were these little sautéed button mushrooms- the fresh melon and berries were nice for a dessert too. Great variety of food, this is a large buffet. Also a nice variety of sushi, and it was very fresh. The fried dumplings were very fresh and the dumpling sauce was right there. The hot and sour soup was not very spicy but was loaded with mushrooms, vegetables and tofu. They have cold mussels in a sweet sauce which is one of my favorites. Your typical oriental buffet has a good selection but i find my self normally struggling to find a protein i like, NOT HERE. Travelled 40+ minutes and the food was gross and overpriced. I don't want to sound bitter but $30 for 2 meals that tasted like they were left out all night is NOT GOOD. The water taste horrible. Now when I went to pay she refused my company card. $19.32 included tax. I told her i would top the 20% (service was good). I gave her $25:00 should've gotten change back. Nope. she stares at me pretending not to understand English. she put the 5 dollar bill and change under counter. Staring at me, lasked for receipt to give to my employer. Which said I paid $25.00 for the 19.32 and $5.68 change given back. Rather than argue with her, it's just not worth it. This place is the best Chinese buffet in the Syracuse area and that is my opinion. The food is warm and fresh and the service is friendly. There are many great options on the buffet line and they have a great selection of seafood products the fresh hibachi grill is excellent and the sushi bar is a plus. It was not tasty at all. Icould not even finish it. My wife had a mixture of many different things from chicken to pork and she really did not have any complaints on what she had. She even had the sushi and said that it was really good. My next plate was a mixture of everything and it was really good. Ireally have no complaints except for the seafood. Racists! Rotten attitudes. Horrible people. We came with a group of latino immigrants and they screamed at a five-year-old boy because he could not respond when they asked his age in English. He ran to the bathroom crying and when I asked for an apology they started screaming and swearing at us in front of the entire restaurant. They told us to get the bleep out of their store just because we asked for an apology for making a five-year-old boy cry. Great hang out with a large group, not so great food. I've been here a few times. I was hoping it would be better next time. The service is excellent. They are smiling and eager to assist. Very friendly and will explain items to you. The food is just like any of the buffets in town. It is mass produced and little flavor. My favorite part is the hibachi. The people that prepare food at the hibachi are fantastic. They make sure your food is prepared to order. They make sure you have a great plate of food. I have never been to any other Chinese buffet in Syracuse so I have nothing to compare it to other than Chinese buffets in different states. When I compare this one to the ones I have been to in California, this one is definitely a winner in terms of ambience and cleanliness. PROS There is plenty of parking. The spoons and shared utensils aren't covered in grime and grease like other buffets I have been to. The air quality isn't stuffy and steamy. The restaurant itself is humungous and there is plenty of room for large parties. This is a great place to take people for a special occasion because it's affordable, spacious, and allows for any picky-eater to be content. They have a lot of food options that include hibachi, sushi, a raw bar area/cold seafood bar, Chinese food, American food (like French fries), soups (I tried the hot and sour soup and the crab soup), fruit, cake, ice cream (popsicle bars, ice cream sandwich), fruit (oranges, honeydew), and much more. When it comes to buffets, they are making food with the goal of giving you options. So of course, it isn't surprising that not EVERY single dish is a winner. Some of the dishes were good while others were "meh, I won't get seconds of that." They have a separate room called "party room" that is for larger groups. You pay at the end of the meal and they allow split checks. Our waiter was really friendly and accommodating about that. You also get a free fortune cookie at the end. It's $12.99 all day on Sunday but the bill came out to be around $31-$32 for 2 people. I am not sure if it's because they had included tip in it or not. The green beans, sushi and shrimp dishes were my favorites from this experience. CONS Orange sherbet was really artificial and terrible tasting. I recommend the strawberry instead (or vanilla, chocolate, but I didn't try these 2). I have only stopped eating ice cream once in my life. This was the second account. They were out of utensils at the buffet area and later on when I asked for some they gave me plastic ones. The crab soup had SO much pepper in it. I LOVE pepper and think it's almost impossible to over-pepper a dish but this one was definitely over peppered. I heard the hibachi and fried rice were very salty. The hot and sour soup also tasted different from what I am used to tasting. I cannot pinpoint it. They don't have crab legs but at this price point, I am not surprised.
