Had tuna, salmon, yellowtail , and red snapper sushi and a caterpillar and Mexican roll. All the sushi was very fresh and the rolls were tasty. I'd definitely eat the same meal again in a heartbeat. Wasabi was a strange color but tasted as expected. 47 dollars for my meal which filled me up. Fair pricing compared to local options. I love this place, and have been going there often (probably every other month) since they opened. The service is attentive, they refill my water often, there's a huge selection of sushi, sashimi, appetizers, and non-sushi entrees like teriyaki, bibimbab, and bulgogi. It's small but when I go I can always find a table. We like the hot tea, the milk tea, and the miso soup is very good. And the takeout is great too. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because in the last year or so I've noticed some popular rolls and dishes like chirashi and California rolls have been prepared ahead of time. They're very cold, right out of the fridge, like sushi from Wegmans. I'm sure they were made that day, and I get they're trying to save some time, especially for the labor-intensive chirashi, but you can't taste it as well when it's cold like that. This place is tucked away by Chase Bank. This is a clean and visually appealing restaurant. The food is exciting to look at as the presentations are spot on. I do think the meeting of Korean and Japanese food and drink is interesting. I do think improvement could be made. I feel the dishes could have flavors added to meats and some rice dishes. I also think it be a fun thought to provide small side dishes of some sort to add more to the Korean side of things. I feel there is a heavy influence of Japanese as is so little would need improving. The service is kind and attentive and adds a comforting relaxed tone to the place. We tried the playboy roll which was my favorite, and the Mexican roll which was good and the TNT roll which kinda tasted just like a jalapeño popper. We also tried the crab raggons which were tasty. I'm sorry. I hate to do this. I just went for the first time since I moved to Denver. I went here with a couple of friends and we each got a lunch sushi box. The sushi felt old and not freshly made, even though there was only one other two-top table in the restaurant. They served the California roll and the crab was stringy. The avocado tasted brown somehow? And the cucumber was dry and all skin. I just need to say this, but I recently went to Wegmans and had better sushi there where the rice was cooked to perfection, wasn't dry or stale, had great texture, and felt like it was prepared within the last hour. Not so much at Ocean Sushi. As for the other options, they had some kind pickled vegetable that was lukewarm and over salted. I actually stopped chewing in the middle of eating it as I had chug water. The fried selections were okay. I wish they had done tempura vegetables instead of the dumpling and this tiny bite of some sort of fish. The salad was overdressed and looked wilted. The miso soup was fine but I wish it had more tofu. Other than that this place just lacked effort and originality and taste. I think this place would be worth it if the chef put some effort in the sushi preparation and the flavors and quality of the dishes. Every time we've ventured away from the Sushi those meals were wonderful as well! The food always feels and tastes fresh. Not to mention absolutely delicious. We came here twice. Because of our Asian restaurant, we want to support it, but the server guy's (waiter) service is so bad. I haven't seen something like this before. Last time we ate a lot, we gave the server an 18% tip. This time we already bought coffee from Starbucks, and he told us next time no outside drink like this. His voice was like so strong for us that of a commander we didn't know about and we so sorry him, and he didn't care about us; he only cared about American people. I had ideas before to eat a lot, but the server guy made me disappointed, and we deleted our orders. He gave the water only to another table for us, although we already ate and we needed to tell him we could get the water, but he didn't act immediately; we got it later, which is not suitable for Asian guys. My fiancée and I are continuing our trip to try and rank every sushi restaurant between Rochester and Syracuse. Ocean sushi was pretty good, but there we're definitely some issues with their traditional sushi. To start, we ordered a sashimi appetizer and two miso soups. Unfortunately, there was some confusion because my lunch bento box order came with a miso soup and my fiancée also ordered one, but they only brought my fiancée one. The sashimi appetizer was good, but the cuts of fish were way too big, like the cuts they gave us were twice the size they should have been. Although I could taste the flavor of each fish, the texture was so off because everything was a thick, chewy cut. It sucks because the quality is there, the quantity is huge but they would be better off to take that slice and cut it in two pieces. That way the quality will really show and customers will get seemingly more, as well as more enjoyable, melt in your mouth sashimi. For mains, we got the sushi bento lunch box with a vegetarian roll, a couple of Saba (mackerel) nigiri to go along with the nigiri in the sushi box, the crazy roll, the Mexican roll, and the Kamikaze roll. The salad in the lunch box was good, pretty standard. The tempura shrimp and scallop were great, but it's always hard for me to judge deep fried foods. I hate California and Philadelphia rolls, so I skipped on those. The nigiri had the same problem as the sushi, the cuts of fish were way too huge, you couldn't really appreciate the quality of the fish because you were so busy chewing. The Saba was also terrible because of how big the cuts were, it just tasted like chewy pickling spice and it was the worst I've had so far. The vegetable roll was surprisingly awesome, I didn't expect that much flavor from just eating my veggies. The crazy roll was great, but make sure you like plain, regular rolls before you order this. It isn't a frilly Americanized roll, so it really is a myriad of fish, rice, and seaweed, which is right up my alley. The Mexican roll was really good, but it was more spicy than flavorful, which is strange to say compared to most sushi restaurants but also, kind of refreshing. The Kamikaze we were mixed on. I felt it had great flavor but too much cream cheese where as my fiancée absolutely loved it. Either way, it's a great roll. In the end, I would say this restaurant is great for big specialty rolls but misses the mark on traditional sushi. So if you're going for rolls, you'll be in for a treat! read more

I came here with a Groupon and was so impressed by the quality of the sushi! I got a bulgogi bento box that came with miso soup and 3 specialty rolls. I know bulgogi isn't Japanese but it tasted great. They also had other Korean dishes like bibimbap stone bowls. I sat at the sushi bar and got to watch my sushi chef make my rolls. It's always nice to see your food get prepared. It is satisfying to know that your food is made fresh to order and in a sanitary way. Our chef wore gloves so that was nice to know. It would have been nice for the miso to have more tofu. The bento box came with rice, the beef, a salad with a floral-orange dressing and some vegetable tempura. The rolls we got were: 1. Oh-no roll: spicy crab, garlic, white tuna, torched on top. This was great because it tasted wonderful but was also presented to us in such a cool way. The waitress came to our bar and lit the roll in front of us. It was sealed and she let the flame roll left to right. The result was this nice smoky flavor. 2. Tuna tataki roll: shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, spicy tuna, and torched tuna. This was also torched on top but was done in a different manner. Our sushi chef torched this with a small torch and it wasn't wrapped in foil. The effect was a nicely charred color on top and a wonderful lightly burnt flavor. 3. Playboy roll: shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, aspragus, tempura chip and shrimp on top I want to say that this is my favorite sushi place in the Syracuse area right now. The Groupon deal made the price very fair. The food was delivered really quickly. The bulgogi wasn't the best I've had but it was overall pretty good still. I would definitely come here for the specialty rolls. The interior is small without a lot of larger tables for big groups. My family has been frequenting Ocean Sushi for years. We eat there or take out food once a month or more all year. My kids have loved it since their teens and now into their twenties request this restaurant for birthday dinner or special occasions. Some of the rolls we love are Super Crunch, Spicy Tuna, Sushi Sandwich, & Playboy which is warmed over a fire at the table! We love the Yakisoba and Bibimbab from the kitchen as well. I asked everyone in the family and none remember a bad meal. You would think the number of times we've eaten their food we might hit a bad meal, but it doesn't happen! Popped into this place for my husbands birthday dinner and WOW I was truly surprised by the quality of sushi they had to offer. Although the restaurant itself isn't very flashy, their sushi says otherwise. I have been trying to find a solid sushi restaurant since moving to Syracuse and finally found one! My husband and I ordered the sashimi entree and were blown away by the silkiness and thickness of each piece. We also got some specialty rolls and were amazed by the different flavors that had chunks of fish in them. It's not usual to find a sushi restaurant that is generous with their fish meat. I will say, the only con is the price. We spent a little over 100$ for 2 people to feel full and satisfied. Been here a handful of times. Recently got a job nearby, and tried them for lunch. I arrived here a little after 12 and was the only diner. I ordered a sushi lunch box that included 3 pieces of sushi, miso soup, vegetable tempura, salad with ginger dressing, california roll, a couple dumplings, and a couple pieces of a roll. It was all pretty good. On their wall, they advertised a spicy ramen soup that I I'd like to try. I would maybe frequent them more, but I feel their prices are generally higher than their competitors. Could be a reason why I was the only diner, as there are many affordable alternatives for lunch nearby. I think this place would benefit greatly from a happy hour special; I was here mid afternoon on a Monday with a friend and we were the only two in the restaurant. Service is good. I ordered the soft shell crab, and it was done pretty nicely, but I imagined the crab being a bit smaller. Still tasty though. The sushi and sashimi is all good here, with their special rolls similar to every other sushi restaurants special rolls. No bad tasting dishes. I will say that the O-NO roll was my favorite (smoked whitefish of some sort on top of a spicy crab roll). tl;dr - good but not worth price. After scanvengering through the world wide web trying to find the best sushi joint in Syracuse, I found Ocean Sushi. Now, they dont have a website or a full menu online which seems slightly stone-agish to me but hey. Upon arrival, the very small restaurant seemed to be at capacity with only one host/server. Considering it was a saturday night, this baffled me to say the least. As I had not been attended to, I grabbed a nearby menu and started trying to figure out what i wanted to order. I found the host to be very brief and slightly rude during our interactions. When I returned to pick up my order, he did apologize so all was forgiven and they earned their lost stars back. Now to the food! So, I ordered the honeymoon roll and man oh man was it delicious. Very fresh ingredients combined to produce the perfect flavour! Almost like a honeymoon in my mouth every single bite. The location doesn't do it justice because its in a strip mall and almost virtually impossible to notice but the quality and flavour of the food makes up for it ten times over. This is probably the best sushi that exists in Syracuse! My husband and I came here on a Friday night around 7pm and we were able to be seated quickly. It's a small restaurant though, and it would be hard to have large parties here, as most of the tables seat up to 5 or 6 if you really squished. There is also sushi bar seating. The staff was very friendly and helpful and were quick to bring us our drinks and take our orders. They checked in on us several times. The menu has a large variety of regular rolls, special rolls, japanese noodle and rice dishes, and some korean entrees too (bibimbap, jabchae, bulgogi), My husband tried the shrimp tempura roll, I had a spider roll, and we split a california roll. All rolls were excellent with fresh ingredients, the right texture and taste of sushi rice, and I was very impressed with my spider roll, as often, the soft shell crab is lacking at other sushi restaurants, but this one was freshly fried! We thought we were going to be hungry after only these rolls, and would have to go home and eat dessert, but surprisingly, we felt satisfied! Sushi is always a pricier meal, but the prices here are on par with other sushi places around Syracuse and their quality is superior! It was our second time here in about 10 days. Food was delicious, we only had sushi rolls both times, not too busy or noisy, nice atmosphere, quick service. Only problem was that our second time here we were given the wrong roll but didn't discover it until the bill came. It was $1 more which wasn't the point, but my husband and I are trying to taste different ones to find our favorites so it was a little disappointing especially since a paper is given to you and you mark off which ones you want.
