I had to retype this because I realized I was gonna write an essay. Long story short I order from this restaurant all the time because I love the food. There's this restaurant and probably one other that serves this specific kind of food. Unfortunately, the last four times I called and made an order the person on a phone sort of comes off as rude in my Ramen soup and I'm in the soup not the food itself, but the soup face has been cold. I arrived on time or early and have to wait in the lobby, just a little while to get my food so I have a difficult time understanding why it has been cold. Again the food itself taste phenomenal and I will continue to order here. Just needs a little bit better customer service. read more

Listen here listen here , I can't believe I've been here so many times and never left a review! Mitsuba is hands down my favorite poke spot in the Syracuse area. I always get the salad base and my mom usually goes with the noodles -- and let me tell you, they never miss. This time, I think our bowls got mixed up a little, and mine ended up with some ah tuna. I've always been hesitant to try it since I usually stick to cooked seafood, but it was actually so good! Flavorful, fresh, and the texture was way better than I expected -- honestly, similar to shrimp. If you like shrimp, you'd probably enjoy this too. For toppings, I went with shrimp, mango, crab meat, corn, chili flakes, and a few other things (I even snapped a pic of my order card because I can never remember everything!). The poke bowls are always fresh, flavorful, and customizable, and I love that you can watch them chop everything right in front of you. This visit I also tried the crab rangoons -- they were a little too crunchy for me, and my little one even said the same (and she usually loves rangoons). My mom tried the chicken wings, which were good, but I'll personally be sticking to the poke bowls because they are the star here. The restaurant is always clean, the staff is super friendly, and the quality is consistently top-notch. If you're looking for poke in Syracuse, this is the place. Great customer service from the guy who works there. The guy generously gave me a whole new drink after mine fell and I thought that was really nice of him to do. The food is great, too. I keep getting this Tokyo Shoyu Ramen and coconut milk tea. They have a lot of good options here like different types of teas, soups, ramen, wings, and poke bowls. I was really disappointed with my experience here. The cleanliness of the restaurant was honestly shocking--it looked like food had been splattered on the walls and just left there. Tables and surfaces had visible crumbs and even hairs, which made it hard to feel comfortable eating. As for the food, it was just okay. Not terrible, but definitely nothing I'd go back for. Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness completely overshadowed everything else. I don't usually write negative reviews, but this felt worth mentioning. My friends and I always choose Mitsuba for our poke bowls. We've tried a handful of places in the area, but we consistently come back to here. They are also always quick to help us make our food. The inside is pretty much always quiet with very few people though. I will say that I feel like they never put enough sauce in their poke, but that's just a personal problem! Went with a very LOW expectation for poke and it surprised me! Giving it a 4 star for now as we didn't try enough food. Next time I would like to try their hot dishes, like ramen or the pork belly buns. I love the build-your-own poke open with a ton of selections! Each poke with $1 additional for avocado, tax and tip came out to $18. The flavors were delicious but we were disappointed in the salmon size. Tasted good but looked like little sashimi scraps. Stopped here on a Friday night with the boys looking for some noodles and broth. One of the many things Vog has gotten me into over the years - apart from just wanting to try new cuisines and ethnic foods - is ramen and KBB. So Ramen is usually a go-to on convention trips. Finding this place via Yelp I wasn't aware that it's an order and sit place rather than table service. Not that it matters or affects it - but, I prefer table service with ramen places - especially with wanting the buns or apps First etc and needing that cadence of a meal order. We came in and there weren't too many seats open - there are probably 5 booths, a couple of two-tops and a long high counter. The latter is where we posted up after ordering - until I spotted an open booth and we scurried to nab it. Altogether we ordered 3 ramens, one pho (Vog of course), three orders of buns (2 pork, one chicken), and two orders of gyoza. We also scored some bubble teas as well. Ramen: I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, adding a side order of noodles. The ramen was standard all things considered. I thought the portion was right in line with the standard fare - and the extra side of noodles was a huge amount. I would say my only issue was the chashu - was a little tough and didn't melt in the broth so eating with chopsticks was a chore. Buns: We got pork belly buns and "KFC" chicken buns. The pork was a little odd to me - thin pork belly slice inside with a small amount of sauce. The pork was kind of slimy and wasn't too pleasing. The chicken one however - WOW. The spicy Mayo sauce - large pieces of chicken that were crispy and properly fried - perfect marriage of the east and west. **GET THE KFC BUNS. PERIOD.** Gyoza: the gyoza was standard - exactly what you think of when you order these. Very good. Taro Tea: I grabbed a tarp tea. I think I'm past the point of getting the bubbles in mine. Seem cool- but having musket balls shot into my throat every sip is not something I'd like to continue. Good flavor. I would get it again from here. Came here on a weekend lunch time. It was not too crowded but we did end up waiting about 30 minutes for our food (2-3 tables before us). We tried the tonkatsu ramen and a sushi burrito. The tonkatsu ramen was pretty watery (seen in the picture) unfortunately. The sushi burrito was tasty but small. We also got a fruit tea. The tea was a bit bland/watery (but cute container). On the bright side, they do have a rewards system where you can get points for a free tea every $60 or so. Outside of Kasai Ramen in downtown Syracuse, I don't know of a dedicated place for a good bowl of ramen; until now. Even with a 3-star rating, I consider Mitsuba Ramen Noodle a very good option for Japanese style ramen at an affordable price. It also has a lot of potential to become a 4-star rated venue, with a few improvements. The location of this restaurant is stark and accessible. The premises are clean and can almost seem abandoned at times depending on the time of day you happen to choose to visit. The menu is simple and deceptively broad given the choices available. I chose to select the Sapporo Miso Ramen and the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) Bun appetizer. There were other very appetizing menu items as well to include sashimi grade burritos, poke bowls and bubble milk tea drinks. I'm looking forward to returning and trying out one of the poke bowls and a bubble tea drink. The Sapporo Miso Ramen was served hot and the broth was rich, savory and umami filled! The three pieces of chashu pork varied in consistency; one very fatty piece and two overdone crispy slices. Nevertheless, all of them were tasty and welcome with the broth. The hard boiled egg and fish cakes slices also accompanied the soup and noodles. The noodles were al dente and plentiful and I enjoyed slurping up the remaining broth until I met the bottom of the bowl. The KFC Buns were served two to a serving. Although the condiments weren't plentiful the pieces of chicken in them were crispy, crunchy, thick and tasty. I felt that if there was a soy garlic glaze or some type of dipping sauce to accompany them this could be a flavor bomb in the making. The buns were warm and soft and not too chewy and I did enjoy them quite a bit. For the price, this venue is a great alternative to Kasai Ramen. I was served quickly and the food was delightfully filling. With the addition of a few table condiments such as hot chili oil and an array of dipping sauces for the steamed buns, this could be a great regular meal venue for local noodle heads out there. I didn't rush to try this place, just because it looks like there's a lot of restaurants in the area making the same stuff. On our first trip, we both ordered Tonkotsu and asked for extra spicy. There was no noticeable change in the spicy, but we had a few complaints about the ramen. The noodles were completely clumped, even after some considerable effort stirring them around. The meat was also chewy. I should point out that we're not really ramen people, so I don't have much of a background to compare it to. I did really enjoy the taste and texture of the noodles. All the drinks we had were good. I froze the coconut milkshake and drank it later, and it held up great. Also, the strawberry banana smoothie with strawberry boba was very refreshing. I took my mom here when she said she wanted something fresh. She doesn't usually go for a lot of non-American food, so it felt like a win getting her here. She ordered the sushi burrito, and loved it. I had heard of this trend, but it never sounded like something worth trying. I love sushi and love burritos. My girlfriend is Korean, and we go through a lot of seaweed wraps at home with many different kinds of meals. I never thought it would scale up to a burrito; it seemed like it would get soggy or fall apart. She let me try the one she ordered, and it was perfect - the best of both. The weight and feel of a burrito or wrap, but the taste and texture of sushi. Absolutely delicious. On that same visit, I ordered a poke bowl which was also my absolute favorite. I added an extra protein and some avocado (my mom was paying, after all). I went salmon, shrimp and tuna, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to try anything else. I added a ton of crunch to mine, which fit right in with the texture of the fish. Everything tasted brilliant and fresh. It was overwhelming, and I didn't take the time to pinpoint what I feel could have been an entire novel describing this experience. Any time I come here, I have no choice but to recreate this meal exactly. We threw in an order of the KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) buns. The only prevailing taste was the heavy cumin seasoning in the chicken. The chicken was very crispy, bordering hard. There were small amounts of sauce and veggies that had little impact. The buns were very well made, the best texture you could hope for. The softness helped offset how hard the chicken was. It's hard not to like fried chicken on a bao bun, so it's a safe order for just about anyone. All in all, the service and timing here is always good. Our experience with the ramen wasn't the best, but they seem to be top tier in the city along with Kasai. I tried my first sushi burrito here and absolutely loved it. And as far as I'm concerned, this will be the place I go for poke bowls from now on. read more

I'm super late on the whole sushi burrito trend. When it was in the peak of popularity, I didn't leave near any spots that were serving them, and by the time I migrated to Syracuse and found out about this place, the frenzy had sizzled out a bit and I was in no rush to try it. What a mistake that was. Mitsuba has turned me into a true sushi burrito believer. There's something about stuffing all that fishy, ricey, saucy goodness into a tube that makes it extra satisfying. This delivery method makes the sushi feel extra filling. I got the Spicy Ahi, and it had the perfect mix of umami and heat. I will say, I've been to this location a few times. The last few times I came, I ordered online only to find out that their online ordering system wasn't turned on or wasn't working, which was a bummer because then I had to wait for my food. For that reason I'd call it a 3 or a 3.5. There was a significant amount of time between my last two visits and I ran into the same problem two times, which signaled to me that they weren't in a rush to fix it. The food was generally was good enough. The Shiso Salmon Salad meet expectations for Poke and I like that they had the flavor of perilla leaves added in. The Shoyu Ramen was tasty but arrived at the table warm, not hot, and the noodles were stuck in a clump. The utensils didn't seem properly clean, either. Milk teas were also pretty standard. Went here in search of the trifecta - ramen, gyoza, and bubble tea. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and Dinner BAE had the beef ramen. We also shared an order of pan fried gyoza and a taro milk tea with boba. So there's good news and bad news. The good news: the gyoza and milk tea were fantastic. The bad news: the ramen. Our ramen were so so. The broth had only a hint of flavor and and was on the watery side. Imagine bath water but with scallions. The noodles reminded me of Cup of Noodles. The tonkatsu ramen featured 1/2 of an overly salted, overly boiled tea egg and two slices of pork belly. This pork slices were really thin and the longer they stayed in the broth the more they disintegrated. Both slices of pork were very unpleasant to eat. At first bite, all that touched my palate was under seasoned fat. Upon closer examination, the two slices were comprised of about 2% meat. The tonkatsu was also supposed to have black wood ear mushrooms. I had only one in my bowl. Dinner BAE said his ramen was just meh. read more

I was in the area for work and I was craving some poke. Sometimes when you go to places in upstate New York it's hard to find good poke. I was glad to have found Mitsuba. During my stay in Syracuse I actually had it twice. Once it was a take out order and the other was a sit in. The take-out order process could have been a little bit better. It was just because the meal took longer to prepare than they expected. I was told 20 minutes for the food to be ready and I gave them about 2530 minutes and once I arrived at the restaurant the food was still not ready. This was a little frustrating but it did not take away from the quality of the food. The staff was also extremely friendly and when I came back to at the restaurant it was a great experience. They have a nice set up with a tray and cutlery and everything that you need. Next time I'm in the area I will be coming back. read more

Eric Jiang opened his first Mitsuba restaurant in New Hartford in 2007. During the past decades, he's opened three more restaurants serving sushi and hibachi-style meals throughout Central New York. Recently, he opened his latest Mitsuba spot - and this one is different. It's a fast-casual restaurant serving ramen, poke bowls and sushi burritos, which are also known as nori wraps.  There's ramen, Japanese-style noodles with homemade broths topped with protein, such as chashu pork. Customers can also order poke bowls - basically a bowl that starts with rice or noodles that are topped with a protein (tuna, chicken, tofu or seafood) and finished with vegetables and dressings. Then there's the sushi burritos. They start with a large piece of toasted seaweed that holds together many of the same ingredients that come in the bowls. As a lover of good noodle dishes, I knew I had to try Mitsuba. There have been a couple of other Ramen restaurants that have disappointed, but having had Mitsuba's other offerings, I had a feeling I wouldn't be let down this time. And I was right. I got the Tonkatsu, a pork Ramen, and an order of their KFC steam buns, and everything was delicious. They do not skimp you at Mitsuba, and my bowl was full of noodles, meat and delicious broth. The steam buns were the same. Great flavor, wonderful soft fluffy steam buns, and they give you so much. You get two HUGE steam buns for around $6, and they could be a meal by themselves. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well, including the owner who you'll definitely see at one of the locations from time to time. Very friendly and appreciative ownership, which makes me want to give them my money even more. I'll definitely be back and I'd recommend everyone give them a try. read more

I have a decently Americanized palate so I was nervous yet excited to try more authentic cuisine. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and my Dad got the KFC steamed buns. I surprised myself by liking everything that was included in the ramen. The presentation was an aesthetic but I do wish it had more of the toppings within the noodles and not just on top. I regret not ordering extra egg it was delicious. The KFC steamed buns were just as advertised, like a fried chicken sandwich. They have a hint of spice and are delightful yet simple. I've only tried the ramen from here, but I can tell you after having it that specifically the tonkotsu ramen from Mitsuba is the first time in a VERY long time that I've had broth that tasted so close to authentic and like it had been legitimately slow-cooked for hours and hours. I took a good look at the broth itself, and there were little, teeny droplets of collagen/drippings that come from the pork/pork bone broth having been cooking away for hours and hours and hours. This is where all the delicious flavor comes from! As others have noted, Mitsuba is the sister restaurant to LabCow next door. LabCow specializes in things like Thai rolled ice cream and various boba teas, etc.; the service at both locations is attentive, organized, and prompt... and you can tell the owner(s) and employees care about the experience they're providing. The tonkotsu ramen has "pork ramen, chashu (roasted pork belly), kikurage, eggs, green onion, menma (bamboo) & nori" as ingredients... with the kikurage being thinly sliced wood ear mushroom. The chashu is a very healthy serving, and I actually wouldn't mind either a wee bit less of it (shock!), or to have it more thinly sliced. The pork was somewhat thickly cut and had some fattier sides (which I just put to the side)... overall, the pork was very delicious! TL;DR Will definitely be back to Mitsuba. It's the first time in a long time that I've come across a place serving ramen with flavorful tonkotsu broth. This place is not to be missed. read more

Solid local ramen, even though I was a little afraid of a place with such a large and varied menu -- if they tried to to everything, would they get anything right? Yes, yes, they would. I had the tonkatsu -- it arrived quickly, in a generously-sized bowl. The chopsticks were nice and round (versus the super-cheap, splintery rectangular chopsticks). Unfortunately, it had a simple plastic spoon with it, rather than the more traditional ramen spoon, so I wound up slurping a lot of the broth straight from the bowl. It was fairly tasty, with toothsome noodles, bamboo, and fish cakes. It felt pretty traditional. The broth was rich and delicious, although it was so greasy that my lips were slippery for the next hour or so. Given the choice of greasy or tasteless, I'll go for greasy every time. All in all, pretty decent ramen for Syracuse. Would it fly in NYC or California? Maybe not, but it was a solid five stars for Syracuse. read more

Saw a picture on Facebook of a friend's poke bowl he got here a couple of weeks ago and it looked sooooo good! So I made arrangement to meet friends there and check it out myself. They also had a Groupon available online so with that I could get a bowl of Ramen or a Poke for only $8.50. So that was an extra incentive. I love Poke bowls, but I have had one somewhat recently so I ordered a Ramen bowl. It was really good. I ordered the Ramen with grilled chicken. It had a large amount of meat and broth, an egg, corn and noodles. Nice flavor. I sat there perfectly enjoying the Ramen, but I was having serious Poke envy!! I had the opportunity the other night to try the pork buns. That is all that I had, so I can't speak to anything else. The bun came with some kind of sauce, the pork, cucumber and maybe crushed peanuts (maybe even candied?). It had really good flavor and texture. There is a fair amount of fat on the pork but it can easily be removed, as it was just a layer vs in the meat. I didn't even get the chance to see any of the other foods being prepared (or eaten!) so I have no idea how they looked but again, these were good. It is like so many other spots these days, where you can see the prep area and the prep area has the bins with all of the ingredients for them to assemble - think Chipotle, Subway. read more

I decided to try Mitsuba out with my family while camping over at Green Lakes. After a day of hiking, we were pretty hungry, and the reviews were pretty good, so why not? We went to eat an early dinner. I got the Sapporo Miso Ramen and the rest of my family got Tonkatsu Ramen and Pho. The soup was delicious! It was very reminiscent of ramen I used to get in NYC. It wasn't too long until I got full. I also ended up getting a Taro Milkshake with bubbles; really good. The tables were very clean, and the booths were divided with acrylic walls. The sauces were also self-service. In the end, I hope to visit again next time I go camping. read more

We came here 30 minutes before the closing time which was at 9pm on a Wednesday. They were extremely friendly and they did not push us to order fast or made it seem like they wanted us to leave. We ordered two poke bowls one with salmon and the other with chili shrimp. They both were fresh and delicious. They give big portions for each thing that we ordered. In order the order you have to fill out the paper and check off what you want in your bowl. The korean fried chicken steamed bun was ok. The chicken was very chewy which was not to my taste. The price is reasonable and I'd come here again if I crave for some fresh poke bowl. read more

My wife and I tried the poke bowl (build your own), the vegetarian ramen, and taro milk tea with boba. The poke bowl was great; it was tasty and with the crunchy topping options, offered a variety of textures. The ramen was underwhelming, as it seemed to be lacking salt and while we asked for it to be spicy, it was mild at best. The bubble tea was some of the worst we have had. We had asked for 75% sugar so maybe we thought that was the reason for the blandness. To their credit, the staff took the bubble teas back to adjust the sweetness. Unfortunately, even after sugar being added the bubble tea was super bland. At this point, we just decided to take the bubble tea home and add sugar/sweeteners ourselves. Even after the sweetness level being adjusted, the bubble tea didn't quite taste right; the taste of taro itself was very subtle, maybe too subtle. The boba was fairly bland and nondescript as well.
