We love Indian food and have heard such great things about Saffron House we had to come try for ourselves, and so glad we did! Everything from service to presentation to taste was amazing. It was very quiet inside on a Sunday afternoon but it was nice. Our waiter, might've been the owner, was so kind and caring. He would explain the dish or ingredients to us and brought us pamdam complimentary to start. Everything we tried was very flavorful, made so well, and the presentation was beautiful with edible flower and glitter a top all the dishes we ordered. Their menu is also very big and would love to come back to try some more of their dishes. read more

A friend was really excited to try Raj Saffron after seeing the wonderful reviews. Her first experience with Indian food was not so good, but I had been here before and told her it was really good. She was looking for advice from me, but I was very happy when the owner came by and said he could select our food and we trusted him.He asked us a few questions about spice level, proteins, etc. He said he would bring us an appetizer, a chicken entree and a vegetable entree. He also brought us 2 hot chai drinks. We agreed it was the best chai we've ever had....it was mildly sweet and the spices were perfect. We were brought as an appetizer...fried cauliflower with a Manchurian sauce which was sweet, mildly spicy and a touch sour..... perfect. We got 4 beautiful veggie balls..... finely minced veggies with paneer in a very creamy sauce. The taste was a little sweet and when eaten on the super hot and fresh naan it was delicious. Our last dish was chicken kebabs, I believe made in the tandoori oven with spices and served with a beautiful sweet, creamy tomato sauce. We didn't ask for dessert but we're brought a complementary rice pudding to share... heavenly! We were checked on several times and water glasses were kept filled. We are both big water drinkers. I was so impressed with both service and food. If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would do it!! read more

We were on the way to the airport from Corning, but our original dinner destination was closed on Monday. Searching for food options on the road, Raj Saffron bubbled up as an option. After taking some neighborhood streets, we arrived at the location and parked in their small lot. There was room for perhaps for 6-7 cars. Each space was labeled for whether it was for the restaurant or not. Entering, we were greeted and seated. We had about 1 hour and 14 minutes before boarding, so the staff were very accommodating and pointed out what could be made quickly (basically everything except their tandoori). They also answered questions about gluten. We ended up getting aloo tikki chaat and a lamb shank masala. They provided chickpea flour crisps with mint-cilantro and tamarind chutney. They also brought us their complimentary chai tea, which was very nice and satisfying. Their chaat was well-balanced, gluten-free (the crispies are made with chickpea flour), and it had pomengranate, chickpeas, and potatoes. The pile was dressed with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and mint chutney. Their lamb shank masala came bone-in with the curry sauce surrounding it. The lamb was well cooked, and mostly moist and tender, though there were parts that were dry. Both dishes were well-adorned, which was a nice touch. Best of all, however, was how exemplary all the staff were at the restaurant. They exuded a wonderful calmness and hospitality. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Syracuse. read more

Raj Saffron House is incredible! The vegan options are clearly labeled, which makes ordering so easy. It was busy on a Sunday, but honestly, for good reason, the food is absolutely delicious. Everything was so flavorful, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The service was great, too, and I really loved the neighborhood the restaurant is in. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Syracuse! read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining at an outstanding Indian restaurant, and the experience exceeded every expectation. From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and inviting décor set the tone for what turned out to be a truly memorable meal. The menu offered a wide variety of authentic dishes, each prepared with remarkable attention to detail. We started with crispy papadums that were perfectly spiced and paired with flavorful mint and tamarind chutneys. We were also presented with Gobi Manchurian featuring deep-fried, battered cauliflower (gobi) tossed in a spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet soy-garlic sauce. For the main courses, the butter Chilean sea bass was served in a rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced sauce, while the garlic naan came out fresh, soft, and slightly charred--just the way it should be. The lamb kabab was nothing short of outstanding--perfectly tender, juicy, and infused with a smoky, well-balanced mix of spices. Each bite was rich and flavorful without being overpowering. Finally, the lamb shank masala was the true star of the evening. The meat was incredibly soft, falling off the bone effortlessly, and the masala sauce was deeply aromatic, layered with spices that created a bold yet harmonious flavor profile. It paired beautifully with fresh naan and fragrant basmati rice. We were too stuffed at this point to order anything else, so this evil (said with tongue firmly in cheek) lady in charge simply provided us with a dish of kheer to share, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Creamy, lightly sweet, and delicately infused with cardamom, it offered a refreshing contrast to the richness of the main dishes. What truly set this restaurant apart was the quality of the ingredients and the depth of flavor in every dish. It was clear that everything was made fresh, with spices blended in-house to create that signature, authentic taste. The service was equally impressive--attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was more than happy to offer recommendations and explain dishes. It made the entire experience feel welcoming and personal. The owners were friendly and eager to answer questions and make sure that everyone felt welcome. Whether you're new to Indian cuisine or a longtime fan, this restaurant is a must-visit. It delivers not only on taste but also on atmosphere and hospitality. I'll definitely be returning soon whenever we're in the area! read more

not bad. Chicken tikka marsala was very red, curry was somewhat bland, greasy and thin consistency wise. I ordered the medium spice and it wasn't spicy at all, would definitely get a hotter spice level next time. chicken was good. Garlic naan was great, gulab jamun was great. Staff was friendly. would go again and try a different curry. read more

Tastefully decorated, Raj Saffron House offers a quiet spot to enjoy a bounty of Indian dishes while enjoying stellar service. We started out with Gobhi Manchurian (cauliflower) for our appetizer. Beautiful presentation! Entrees included Chicken Korma and Chana Masala, accompanied by a large bowl of rice. Again, beautiful presentation of each dish including edible flowers! We had dessert - kheer (rice pudding) and gulab jamun. Both desserts were delicious, and the plates were embellished with mango and berry sauces. We had plenty to eat, and still had plenty to take home for the next day. Can't wait to return and try more dishes. Their seafood options looked amazing! read more

The Indian food from here is actually insane. It is so flavorful and delicious even when you order "mild" for spice level. I've never eaten here in person but have ordered delivery and take out multiple times and feel that the portion sizes are well worth the cost. My recommendations absolutely include the Saffron Special Biriyani which was incredibly flavorful and had SO MUCH different proteins in it and the Lamb Shank Masala. I'm used to many places only giving the lamp shank and nothing else but Raj Saffron House gives lamb shank with multiple pieces of lamb as well. It was incredibly delicious and tender. The chicken saag and the lamb karahi are also tasty! Best Indian food in cuse! read more

I have very little experience with Indian food other than some curry dishes and I know there is so much more! My friend does have experience but the owner came over to us as we were reviewing the menu and offered to suggest some things based on what we like. We told him a chicken dish and a vegetable dish. We definitely also wanted some naan bread also. While we were waiting he brought out some super thin wavers with dips. Very tasty (not sure what the name of this is). Also brought us some hot chai. The chai was the best I've ever had!! Creamy with just the right amount of spices. The appetizer he picked was Gobhi Manchurian which was cauliflower chunks that I believe were fried with this amazing sauce and the presentation was beautiful. For our main courses it was Malai Kofta and Malai Kebab. Both were outstanding and the sauces were to die for. We had Tandoori Naan that we dipped in the sauces and made little chicken bites with. This was served with rice also. Every bite was an explosion of flavor that I've never experienced before. The owner was so attentive with filling our water glasses and asking how we liked everything. We were stuffed with leftovers and couldn't eat desert but next thing we know he brought us out rice pudding which was on the house. We tried it and again that was delicious. This was such a great experience I cannot wait to go back. The owner also walked us out to the door and thanked us for coming in. This is customer service that anyone and especially me really appreciated. Everyone go and try this restaurant! Even if you don't know what to order he will help you to choose according to what you like. read more

I enjoyed my dining experience but the quantity was reduced. I ordered Schezwan shrimp and there were just 4 pieces of shrimp in there and a flower. Looking at it I was like Ok, good presentation but it doesn't justify the price. Then we had the Lamb Biryani and preferred it to be spicy. It was mildly spicy and the lamb as fresh. Quantity was good enough for two. I have a mixed opinion about this place because of the quantity served. The lighting could seem dull at some tables. I don't know if it's intentionally set that way for dates but it is better to have good lighting in my opinion. read more

Wonderful Indian restaurant in Syracuse! We ordered takeout while traveling through on a cold, snowy evening. We ordered the saag paneer and black lentil curries. Both of which were fresh, flavorful, well spiced, and delicious! Portions are generous, we had enough leftover for dinner the following night. (I will note that rice comes with the meal and you don't need to order it separately. Which is mistake that I made! It's not quite clear on the menu.) The staff were incredibly welcoming and kind when I came to pick up, offering me warm tea and conversation during my brief weight. I'd happily come here again. Hopefully, next time, I will have time to sit and enjoy the meal & service inside. read more

Raj Saffron House is 10/10 amazing! I don't leave reviews typically, but I've had multiple wonderful experiences here and want to show my support. I dined in by myself recently and everybody was SO kind. I was checked up on by I believe the owner and got to tell him how delicious the food was. At the end of the meal I was given a free rice pudding. It was my first time having rice pudding, it was great! I was very happy with the meal and we've ordered delivery a few times since, food is great every. single. time. Last night I ordered a large meal for pickup. I arrived a bit early in the bitter cold and while sitting down to wait I was immediately offered a free chai tea. Piping hot and absolutely amazing. I thanked them and was told it was no problem, they like to show gratitude to their customers. They've earned a customer for life, I'll never get Indian cuisine from anywhere else than Raj Saffron House! Thank you all for your kindness, it's a rare sight to see such genuine care. First off, we were blown away by the quality of the service. It was my boyfriend's first time trying Indian cuisine, and the gentleman that was serving us made excellent suggestions. We started with the Gohbi Manchurian, which is a cauliflower appetizer in a sweet and tangy sauce. I've never had this dish before and it was an instant favorite. We ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! Our server (who I think may have been the owner or manager), ordered for my boyfriend. He brought out the Lamb Shank Masala, which was incredible. The meat fell right off the bone and the sauce was so flavorful, yet not overwhelming. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was delicious of course, but I definitely recommend broadening your horizons and letting the staff choose your meal. The chai tea was so refreshing, and the space is clean and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot. read more

Gorgeous surroundings so tastefully decorated with prompt service at 5pm. My daughter was celebrating that she got a physical family reunion with me and my husband. It was so long due that she and I couldn't tell when we had last seen each other besides FaceTime. She got to pick Indian and my hubby found this place on Yelp. If I could give TEN stars, I would. The staff brought us whole papadums as the gratis and we perused the lengthy menu, finally deciding on lamb kebabs, lamb shank, an eggplant masala, and Chilean Sea Bass. I hear you lecturing me about how that fish is not sustainable but I love it and I do not eat it hardly ever. We also got a refill of the papadums and a garlic naan. We were served Gobi Manchurian which is cauliflower with a red sauce gratis along with Raiti which is a cooked yogurt with raisins, strawberry, and a veritable treasure chest of different fruits. So fun to eat! Wish we lived closer but since we are not, I know my waist struggle is not in danger zone! Just nearly in danger. This restaurant became packed full of happy customers while we were dining on Monday. read more

Yes, Yelpers believe the hype. This is one of the best Indian restaurants around and has the best hospitality I have ever experienced. My husband and I arrived on a Tuesday for lunch and the restaurant was quiet, but we were served like a king and queen. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted and received Papadom with two sauces. The menu was extensive and it was hard to choose because everything looked so good. Our wonderful host brought us over two delicious cups of hot chai sprinkled with cinnamon. Probably the best chai I've ever had. We ordered Mulligatawny soup, mild but complex in flavor and served very hot. I decided on shrimp tiki masala, although the halibut looked really good too. You can decide on the amount of heat that you like and I ordered mild, which was delicious. I also ordered paneer cheese naan. The naan was served, hot and buttery and was a generous portion. For dessert we had kheer. It was much thicker than the way most Indian restaurants serve it. It was beautifully plated with pomegranate seeds on top sprinkled with fruity swirl. So delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and there was smooth, jazz music playing in the background which enhanced the experience. The food is amazing, The service is exceptional, and there is parking available both in the lot and in the lot across the street. This restaurant will make it into our regular rotation of favorite places. read more

The BEST meal in Syracuse so far comes from this ridiculously good Indian restaurant and let me tell ya.... The hospitality is top notch and the ambiance is delightful! I'd ordered takeout before but never dined in, so decided to try it when my partner came to town. We arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday and the restauarant was initially empty but filled up quickly. Service was on point the entire time. Our water glasses were refilled constantly and the staff was so kind. The menu offers classic Indian staples as well as some options that are more rare to find in town. We got a mango and strawberry lassi, which came garnished with fruit and flowers. Everything is plated very colorfully. The portions are HUGE. Our rosemary naan was the size of a small child lol. We did a paneer app to start, split a bindi masal, and finished with a lovely mango rasmalai. All of the staff was so kind and attentive and we left stuffed. The only downside of the experience is that the lot is super tight and it can be tricky to pull out once it fills up with cars, so you may want to go for streetside parking if you're not super confident in your skills to manuever tight spaces. LOL. Food did take some time even though they weren't super busy but not unbearably so, and the quality was there. Sometimes you hear countless good things about a place and think to yourself how true can those rumors be? I'm here to tell you: all of the good things are TRUE about Raj Saffron House! Raj Saffron House has become our go to spot every time we visit Syracuse from Connecticut. Since our daughter started at the University this fall, we've been here several times, and it's by far the best restaurant we've tried. Raj, the owner, is truly one of a kind. He really understands fine dining, but in a way that feels warm and personal, not stuffy. He always makes us feel welcome and makes every visit feel special. The food is consistently amazing. Our favorites are the butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, chicken korma, fried cauliflower, and the naan. The mango lassi, chai tea, and rice pudding are outstanding as well. Everything is packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The meals come with a big bowl of rice that's cooked just right. Honestly, it's the best Indian food I've ever had, hands down... and I have been to many! The restaurant itself is warm, clean, and inviting. It is perfect for a relaxed/casual meal with family and friends. We look forward to eating here every time we're in town and can't wait to come back when we drop our daughter off after Christmas break. Highly recommend if you're in Syracuse! read more

10/10! Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted with a warm hello! Once we sat down the staff was very attentive of our table. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. The tikka masala and the chai felt like a home cooked meal from someone's kitchen. The chai was like a hug in a mug! We finished off our dinner with a rice pudding which I'd never had before but it was subtly sweet, which for me is the best type of dessert. As we were walking out of the restaurant, the main host, or maybe owner, walked across the restaraunt just to open the door for us. We cannot stress how well we were treated at this establishment. Located at the former site of Saint Urban in the Westcott neighborhood. They have their own small parking lot (may be full if the restaurant is full though). It has a clean collegetown kind of vibe. The staff is very friendly. But baby it was cold inside so make sure if you dress warmly if you go in the winter. Got the goat garam masala which was delicious but had chopped pieces of meat on the bone and as is common in Asian restaurants that do this there are little shards of bone present so if this a problem for you order something without bones. The Chana masala was great. The garlic naan was good. I ordered everything spicy and it was pleasantly but not painfully so. Good sized portions. Would go again read more
