    Garlic Naan
    David O.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at an outstanding Indian restaurant, and the experience exceeded every expectation. From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and inviting décor set the tone for what turned out to be a truly memorable meal. The menu offered a wide variety of authentic dishes, each prepared with remarkable attention to detail. We started with crispy papadums that were perfectly spiced and paired with flavorful mint and tamarind chutneys. We were also presented with Gobi Manchurian featuring deep-fried, battered cauliflower (gobi) tossed in a spicy, tangy, and slightly sweet soy-garlic sauce. For the main courses, the butter Chilean sea bass was served in a rich, creamy, and beautifully balanced sauce, while the garlic naan came out fresh, soft, and slightly charred--just the way it should be. The lamb kabab was nothing short of outstanding--perfectly tender, juicy, and infused with a smoky, well-balanced mix of spices. Each bite was rich and flavorful without being overpowering. Finally, the lamb shank masala was the true star of the evening. The meat was incredibly soft, falling off the bone effortlessly, and the masala sauce was deeply aromatic, layered with spices that created a bold yet harmonious flavor profile. It paired beautifully with fresh naan and fragrant basmati rice. We were too stuffed at this point to order anything else, so this evil (said with tongue firmly in cheek) lady in charge simply provided us with a dish of kheer to share, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Creamy, lightly sweet, and delicately infused with cardamom, it offered a refreshing contrast to the richness of the main dishes. What truly set this restaurant apart was the quality of the ingredients and the depth of flavor in every dish. It was clear that everything was made fresh, with spices blended in-house to create that signature, authentic taste. The service was equally impressive--attentive without being intrusive, and the staff was more than happy to offer recommendations and explain dishes. It made the entire experience feel welcoming and personal. The owners were friendly and eager to answer questions and make sure that everyone felt welcome. Whether you're new to Indian cuisine or a longtime fan, this restaurant is a must-visit. It delivers not only on taste but also on atmosphere and hospitality. I'll definitely be returning soon whenever we're in the area!

Tastefully decorated, Raj Saffron House offers a quiet spot to enjoy a bounty of Indian dishes while enjoying stellar service. We started out with Gobhi Manchurian (cauliflower) for our appetizer. Beautiful presentation! Entrees included Chicken Korma and Chana Masala, accompanied by a large bowl of rice. Again, beautiful presentation of each dish including edible flowers! We had dessert - kheer (rice pudding) and gulab jamun. Both desserts were delicious, and the plates were embellished with mango and berry sauces. We had plenty to eat, and still had plenty to take home for the next day. Can't wait to return and try more dishes. Their seafood options looked amazing!

The great reviews for Saffron House are all true. I got there for lunch and was seated quickly. I was given water and a menu and my server was so friendly and welcoming. She came back with a basket of chapati and 2 chutneys. I ordered hot chai and it was nicely spiced with just the right amount of cream. I had Aloo Tiki as an appetizer... delicious fried potato patties, not a lot of spice but they were nice with the chutneys. My Shahi Paneer was creamy and smooth with a nice amount of paneer, and the naan was hot and fresh. They kept my water filled and refilled my chai as well. I was quite full but they gave me a delicious dessert to try, Kheer which is rice pudding and I loved the addition of pomegranate seeds on top. The restaurant was clean and nicely furnished and everyone was helpful and friendly.

Delicious! Food all tasted phenomenal, portion sizes were perfect, and presentation was beautiful. Service was also very attentive and very friendly. Will be returning when I'm in Syracuse again!

I enjoyed my dining experience but the quantity was reduced. I ordered Schezwan shrimp and there were just 4 pieces of shrimp in there and a flower. Looking at it I was like Ok, good presentation but it doesn't justify the price. Then we had the Lamb Biryani and preferred it to be spicy. It was mildly spicy and the lamb as fresh. Quantity was good enough for two. I have a mixed opinion about this place because of the quantity served. The lighting could seem dull at some tables. I don't know if it's intentionally set that way for dates but it is better to have good lighting in my opinion.

Gorgeous surroundings so tastefully decorated with prompt service at 5pm. My daughter was celebrating that she got a physical family reunion with me and my husband. It was so long due that she and I couldn't tell when we had last seen each other besides FaceTime. She got to pick Indian and my hubby found this place on Yelp. If I could give TEN stars, I would. The staff brought us whole papadums as the gratis and we perused the lengthy menu, finally deciding on lamb kebabs, lamb shank, an eggplant masala, and Chilean Sea Bass. I hear you lecturing me about how that fish is not sustainable but I love it and I do not eat it hardly ever. We also got a refill of the papadums and a garlic naan. We were served Gobi Manchurian which is cauliflower with a red sauce gratis along with Raiti which is a cooked yogurt with raisins, strawberry, and a veritable treasure chest of different fruits. So fun to eat! Wish we lived closer but since we are not, I know my waist struggle is not in danger zone! Just nearly in danger. This restaurant became packed full of happy customers while we were dining on Monday.

Raj Saffron House is 10/10 amazing! I don't leave reviews typically, but I've had multiple wonderful experiences here and want to show my support. I dined in by myself recently and everybody was SO kind. I was checked up on by I believe the owner and got to tell him how delicious the food was. At the end of the meal I was given a free rice pudding. It was my first time having rice pudding, it was great! I was very happy with the meal and we've ordered delivery a few times since, food is great every. single. time. Last night I ordered a large meal for pickup. I arrived a bit early in the bitter cold and while sitting down to wait I was immediately offered a free chai tea. Piping hot and absolutely amazing. I thanked them and was told it was no problem, they like to show gratitude to their customers. They've earned a customer for life, I'll never get Indian cuisine from anywhere else than Raj Saffron House! Thank you all for your kindness, it's a rare sight to see such genuine care. We will be back :)

Best service and Indian food we've had in Syracuse! Complimentary chutneys and Chai tea. Food was all very flavorful. We will be back!

First off, we were blown away by the quality of the service. It was my boyfriend's first time trying Indian cuisine, and the gentleman that was serving us made excellent suggestions. We started with the Gohbi Manchurian, which is a cauliflower appetizer in a sweet and tangy sauce. I've never had this dish before and it was an instant favorite. We ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! Our server (who I think may have been the owner or manager), ordered for my boyfriend. He brought out the Lamb Shank Masala, which was incredible. The meat fell right off the bone and the sauce was so flavorful, yet not overwhelming. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was delicious of course, but I definitely recommend broadening your horizons and letting the staff choose your meal. The chai tea was so refreshing, and the space is clean and welcoming. Highly recommend this spot.

Yes, Yelpers believe the hype. This is one of the best Indian restaurants around and has the best hospitality I have ever experienced. My husband and I arrived on a Tuesday for lunch and the restaurant was quiet, but we were served like a king and queen. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted and received Papadom with two sauces. The menu was extensive and it was hard to choose because everything looked so good. Our wonderful host brought us over two delicious cups of hot chai sprinkled with cinnamon. Probably the best chai I've ever had. We ordered Mulligatawny soup, mild but complex in flavor and served very hot. I decided on shrimp tiki masala, although the halibut looked really good too. You can decide on the amount of heat that you like and I ordered mild, which was delicious. I also ordered paneer cheese naan. The naan was served, hot and buttery and was a generous portion. For dessert we had kheer. It was much thicker than the way most Indian restaurants serve it. It was beautifully plated with pomegranate seeds on top sprinkled with fruity swirl. So delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and there was smooth, jazz music playing in the background which enhanced the experience. The food is amazing, The service is exceptional, and there is parking available both in the lot and in the lot across the street. This restaurant will make it into our regular rotation of favorite places.

The BEST meal in Syracuse so far comes from this ridiculously good Indian restaurant and let me tell ya.... The hospitality is top notch and the ambiance is delightful! They love their healthcare workers and spoiled me with a few surprises, but clearly they roll out the red carpet for all of their guests. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend for anyone in the 'Cuse area. They're relatively new, so let's help them by showing up for them and giving their restaurant the recognition it deserves. Sometimes you hear countless good things about a place and think to yourself how true can those rumors be? I'm here to tell you: all of the good things are TRUE about Raj Saffron House! I can't help but start with the staff who are perhaps the kindest individuals I've ever met. They were so attentive as they regularly returned to refill our water glasses and offer things to try that we hadn't ordered such as a cup of chai (delicious!) and rice pudding for dessert (delicious x2!). Our meal was out of this world good! We walked out with bellies full and the intense flavors of our vindaloo and makhani still dancing on our lips.

The Biryani portion for $17 was definetly enough for 2 meals and I felt full from about half of it thought that might have been the capsacin. The garlic chili Nana was very interesting because in one bite it cut the heat from my biryani but then hit me with chili and the spice came back. About $50 for 2 people w/ 2 entrees, naan, and water. A little pricier than what you might want for just 2 people but the food's taste and size make up for it. Would definetly go back.

So much Indian food outside major metropolitan centers in the US is either terribly underflavored, in a sad attempt to level down to provincial palates, or by contrast overspiced, in the equally ridiculous assumption that you convey authenticity via sheer capsicum, that one approaches a place like this warily. And yet what you have here is delicately-calibrated sauces, food in which you can actually taste individual seasonings and savor their interactions, the way it's supposed to be! Samosas are fresh, crunchy crispy crust rather than the doughy glop for which we so frequently settle, and rice is perfectly fluffy. Lunch servings are just the right size - not the gargantuan american portions that let you know how dubious is the quality of the meat (margins can only be maintained on those stupid portion sizes by sacrificing quality). I won't say this place would get 5 stars in London or Chicago but it's well worth your time if you're in Cooperstown instead.

Most notably, they serve a lunch buffet during the week that costs less than $13 and is bar none the best value for your money. I often partake in the take-out buffet during the weekdays and can't deny that its the best option for when I am really hungry and want a satisfying meal. The staff are associated with other well known Indian restaurants in the area (The Clay Oven and the Dosa Grill to name a couple) as denoted by their various polo shirts with the named establishments screen printed on the chest. On various days, I have experienced questionable attitudes from the wait staff but, most of time, I don't dine-in so my experience in this regard is not very reliable. But, be forewarned that some previous reviews have criticized the customer service of the staff and called it into question on more than a few occasions. The buffet has a wide variety of options available and they try to mix up the entrees beyond the usual Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry and Tandoori Chicken. On Fridays, they sometimes serve Fish Masala which is a personal favorite of mine. There are also a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options as well beyond the salad bar. In fact, if you ever consider converting to a vegetarian diet, Indian cuisine is the way to go. The variety of options consisting of chick peas, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, eggplant, okra, lentils and cheese are so expertly prepared with herbs and spices that make any traditional Indian dishes absolutely delicious. If you are new to Indian cuisine you can feel confident in the knowledge that the spice levels are very mild (unless you specifically request a certain level of spiciness). Overall, its a great and affordable experience for any foodie who enjoys fragrant cuisine highlighted by herbs and spices that aren't overbearing. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and the to-go option is very filling. This is my go-to option for anytime I am famished and just want something delicious that always leaves me satisfied. You owe it to yourself to try this out. And the price point will never disappoint. What have you got to lose?

We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!
