We were on the way to the airport from Corning, but our original dinner destination was closed on Monday. Searching for food options on the road, Raj Saffron bubbled up as an option. After taking some neighborhood streets, we arrived at the location and parked in their small lot. There was room for perhaps for 6-7 cars. Each space was labeled for whether it was for the restaurant or not. Entering, we were greeted and seated. We had about 1 hour and 14 minutes before boarding, so the staff were very accommodating and pointed out what could be made quickly (basically everything except their tandoori). They also answered questions about gluten. We ended up getting aloo tikki chaat and a lamb shank masala. They provided chickpea flour crisps with mint-cilantro and tamarind chutney. They also brought us their complimentary chai tea, which was very nice and satisfying. Their chaat was well-balanced, gluten-free (the crispies are made with chickpea flour), and it had pomengranate, chickpeas, and potatoes. The pile was dressed with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and mint chutney. Their lamb shank masala came bone-in with the curry sauce surrounding it. The lamb was well cooked, and mostly moist and tender, though there were parts that were dry. Both dishes were well-adorned, which was a nice touch. Best of all, however, was how exemplary all the staff were at the restaurant. They exuded a wonderful calmness and hospitality. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Syracuse. read more

The Indian food from here is actually insane. It is so flavorful and delicious even when you order "mild" for spice level. I've never eaten here in person but have ordered delivery and take out multiple times and feel that the portion sizes are well worth the cost. My recommendations absolutely include the Saffron Special Biriyani which was incredibly flavorful and had SO MUCH different proteins in it and the Lamb Shank Masala. The great reviews for Saffron House are all true. I got there for lunch and was seated quickly. I was given water and a menu and my server was so friendly and welcoming. She came back with a basket of chapati and 2 chutneys. I ordered hot chai and it was nicely spiced with just the right amount of cream. I had Aloo Tiki as an appetizer... delicious fried potato patties, not a lot of spice but they were nice with the chutneys. My Shahi Paneer was creamy and smooth with a nice amount of paneer, and the naan was hot and fresh. They kept my water filled and refilled my chai as well. I was quite full but they gave me a delicious dessert to try, Kheer which is rice pudding and I loved the addition of pomegranate seeds on top. Wonderful Indian restaurant in Syracuse! We ordered takeout while traveling through on a cold, snowy evening. We ordered the saag paneer and black lentil curries. Both of which were fresh, flavorful, well spiced, and delicious! Portions are generous, we had enough leftover for dinner the following night. (I will note that rice comes with the meal and you don't need to order it separately. Which is mistake that I made! It's not quite clear on the menu.) I'd ordered takeout before but never dined in, so decided to try it when my partner came to town. We arrived for a late lunch on a Saturday and the restauarant was initially empty but filled up quickly. Service was on point the entire time. Our water glasses were refilled constantly and the staff was so kind. The menu offers classic Indian staples as well as some options that are more rare to find in town. We got a mango and strawberry lassi, which came garnished with fruit and flowers. Everything is plated very colorfully. The portions are HUGE. Our rosemary naan was the size of a small child lol. We did a paneer app to start, split a bindi masal, and finished with a lovely mango rasmalai. All of the staff was so kind and attentive and we left stuffed. The only downside of the experience is that the lot is super tight and it can be tricky to pull out once it fills up with cars, so you may want to go for streetside parking if you're not super confident in your skills to manuever tight spaces. LOL. Food did take some time even though they weren't super busy but not unbearably so, and the quality was there. If you're craving good Indian food and a good restaurant experience in general in Syracuse, this is a spot to try! read more

I dined in by myself recently and everybody was SO kind. I was checked up on by I believe the owner and got to tell him how delicious the food was. At the end of the meal I was given a free rice pudding. It was my first time having rice pudding, it was great! I was very happy with the meal and we've ordered delivery a few times since, food is great every. single. time. Last night I ordered a large meal for pickup. I arrived a bit early in the bitter cold and while sitting down to wait I was immediately offered a free chai tea. Piping hot and absolutely amazing. I thanked them and was told it was no problem, they like to show gratitude to their customers. My husband and I arrived on a Tuesday for lunch and the restaurant was quiet, but we were served like a king and queen. As soon as we were seated, we were greeted and received Papadom with two sauces. The menu was extensive and it was hard to choose because everything looked so good. Our wonderful host brought us over two delicious cups of hot chai sprinkled with cinnamon. Probably the best chai I've ever had. We ordered Mulligatawny soup, mild but complex in flavor and served very hot. I decided on shrimp tiki masala, although the halibut looked really good too. You can decide on the amount of heat that you like and I ordered mild, which was delicious. I also ordered paneer cheese naan. The naan was served, hot and buttery and was a generous portion. For dessert we had kheer. It was much thicker than the way most Indian restaurants serve it. It was beautifully plated with pomegranate seeds on top sprinkled with fruity swirl. So delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and there was smooth, jazz music playing in the background which enhanced the experience. The food is amazing, The service is exceptional, and there is parking available both in the lot and in the lot across the street. Since our daughter started at the University this fall, we've been here several times, and it's by far the best restaurant we've tried. Raj, the owner, is truly one of a kind. He really understands fine dining, but in a way that feels warm and personal, not stuffy. He always makes us feel welcome and makes every visit feel special. The food is consistently amazing. Our favorites are the butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, chicken korma, fried cauliflower, and the naan. The mango lassi, chai tea, and rice pudding are outstanding as well. Everything is packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The meals come with a big bowl of rice that's cooked just right. Located at the former site of Saint Urban in the Westcott neighborhood. They have their own small parking lot (may be full if the restaurant is full though). It has a clean collegetown kind of vibe. The staff is very friendly. But baby it was cold inside so make sure if you dress warmly if you go in the winter. Got the goat garam masala which was delicious but had chopped pieces of meat on the bone and as is common in Asian restaurants that do this there are little shards of bone present so if this a problem for you order something without bones. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was the ambiance. The inside is a bit drab and drafty but it is very clean. The service was very attentive, never had to ask for water refills. Everything was brought out that we asked for, and then some. The meal came with complimentary pappadum with an amazing tasting cilantro chutney and tamarind chutney. The pappadum was light and crispy. Additionally, the server brought out extra chutney for our leftovers to take home and gave us rice pudding on the house. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh.
