I used to love this place, but the last few times I've ordered, it has been far below what I was accustomed to from them. There was a gentleman there before us who ordered about $30 of food by himself was yelled at and told to leave, and he couldn't eat there because they were closing in 35 minutes. My hot and sour soup, which is the last I'll order from them, had a bamboo shoot and a carrot in it and broth. Soooo disappointed. And no fortune cookies!

This place was hiding from the street view. Was having a hard time finding the place. When i get inside, no one behind the door, yelled hello many time. Decided to call instead and let them know that i am at the door and ready to place an order. After few minutes waiting, decided to remove the table barrier and go to kitchen to get help. A lady took my order and it came out wrong. Ordered small chicken Fried Rice and small beef fried rice to go, received chicken Lo mien and beef lo mien instead. Also the noodle is very salty. Definitely will NOT come back. And please stay away!

Stopped by on my way back home with my nephew. The pictures on Yelp looked good so, it lured me in. We parked on the street, it was Sunday, so free parking. When we walked in, nobody was at the restaurant.... hoping we weren't the first customers, we grabbed a table and they brought the menu to review. We went with the following: - Chicken Lo Mein - Cumin Lamb - Shrimp with scallions and ginger - Dan Dan Noodles You can't go wrong with Cumin Lamb, this dish saved the whole review :) It was what I expected and we definitely finished the dish. If you haven't tried this, definitely recommended. The shrimp dish was decent, nothing special... just shrimps stir fried with green onions and ginger. What threw me off was Dan Dan Noodles...it seems everyone has their own way of making it... I didn't expect the high content of vinegar in this dish and the dish wasn't hot (as in spicy) compared to other Dan Dan noodles that I've had at other joints. I was put off by the high concentration of the vinegar hitting the back of your mouth. Service was decent, while we were eating, two more people walked in. Looks like this place is busy during the lunch time since it's in downtown location. If I were to go back, I would have to order different dishes and give them a try to really have a full experience... for first visit, three stars and hopefully on my next visit, hopefully I'll be wowed by other dishes they offer.

I usually don't like writing a review after only one visit but I know I'll be returning and I've gotten a good enough sense of what makes Tang authentic and great for an area so devoid of Asian cuisine. In the heart of downtown lies a very unassuming Tang Flavor. When I walked in on a slow Monday night, I was unfortunately the only customer at the time. About fifteen minutes later, a group of about 10 Asian students walked in. If they know what's up then I know I'm in the right place. There were plenty of giant tables so definitely good for groups, another plus to the lazy susans in the middle. Service was prompt and courteous, if not overly attentive. I was waited on three different gentlemen throughout my entire meal. Authentic is the name of the game here. Tofu dry pots, which I cannot wait to try on subsequent visits along with cold noodle dishes, regional specialties of lamb cumin (which I DID partake in) down to offerings such as sliced beef tripe. It's as close to a big city Chinatown that you are going to find in Cuse. I started off with an appetizer of shumai but I wouldn't recommend this to customers. I was expecting something on the more authentic dim sum side but instead got what looked like tiny, not homemade, shumai that I've purchased before in an Asian supermarket. If I had to base the meal on these alone, it would have unfortunately been a huge disappointment. But then the lamb dish came out a few minutes later and WOW. Steaming, spicy, tender lamb all decked out on a bed of cabbage with a side of white rice. I ate every last morsel, it was incredible. This is the reason I came here and one of their star dishes. I was pleased with everything but the shumai and am frothing at the mouth to return. They've got a good thing going here and the city was in desperate need of it. If you want truly authentic Chinese food, Tang is your spot.

Why did my steamed dumplings got dirt on them?
    Drunh H.

I changed one star to two since I had no diarrhea the next day despite of overpricing and slow preparation time. I'll never eat there again for sure because 8 dumplings for $16 is way expensive and it took more than half hour to be ready.

I came here for dinner on a Thursday evening and it was almost empty though it was about 8:30. There were two other groups here. We entered and they told us to sit anywhere. They immediately brought us menus, asked our drink orders, and brought us lightly salted peanuts to whet our appetites. Two of my family members ordered the combination plate which was an entree that came with fried rice and an egg roll for roughly $8 (plus 25-75 cents). I didn't want all that, so I ordered chicken and broccoli as a small portion for around $6 and added wonton soup. My dad got the same entree but got the large portion for almost double the price. The food came super quick! Maybe because they weren't busy? The soup was good and you could taste that they made the wontons themselves. My chicken was really flavorful and not overly seasoned. The sauce was light and not that thick icky cornstarch fake stuff you typically expect with Chinese food. I could've been happier with softer broccoli though. I couldn't even finish my meal! I should've shared it, though it was bang for your buck already! My dad's portion looked about the same as mine though slightly more chicken. It seemed like a jip to order that much for that price and he wished he had ordered the small portion I did. No one finished their food so it was definitely a large amount for what you pay. The reviews seem to say it's more popular for lunch, which makes sense since many businesses are located nearby. Overall, it's a really great place to eat if you're on a budget!

Another very authentic (not Americanized) Chinese. Downtown central location should be great for all the new people moving into this now bustling area. I recommend ordering from the "Authentic" menu that is clearly labeled as such.

Terrible food quality. The red bean dessert balls made my wife very sick, and we can't even think of that item without getting nauseous.

Must stop spot for hot pot!…read more I have always been a fan of red chili, but I've finally had the chance to do hot pot, and it was amazing. I try not to ever be the person showing up too close to closing time, but we were craving it and made the decision to go there and eat as fast as we could or else order to go to minimize being "those people". Well they were relatively busy for a Monday night, and yet they served us quickly and kindly as usual. We even said we know there's other groups here but we will be as fast as possible and they were very kind and patient with us regardless! As for the food- the lo mein my partner got was of course delicious and reliable. My hot pot was incredible, and with ridiculously generous portions of food. The restaurant as always is clean, pleasant, and of course fun to stop on the way in or out and say hello to the turtles and fishes. Always worth a stop in to this great restaurant!

I did find a person who visited this one and another one, Jianghu Café and so I asked her if I could only visit one, which do I do, and she said Jianhghu was the winner winner Szechuan lunch. I did go there and it was great! But I found myself having one additional dinner time without plans, so I came here as well. Walking in, I noticed what appeared to be a common Asian Massage Parlor next door, yo uget to it via the entry way that bring you here as well. Kinda odd, but it didn't bother me. Walking into this restaurant, it's very nicely laid out and beautifully décor'd! The servers and staff spoke great English and were very helpful, especially when answering questions about their menu. I started with their Garlic Cucumbers, but I asked for them to be spicy and Wow, they did a GREAT job with them! They weren't very hot, but so much spiciness and flavor - I loved them! Next up was to get their cumin chicken. They do cumin style in all their proteins, which makes for some great options. I chose their basic fried rice to come with this. The fried rice and cumin chicken were both amazing... Perfectly spiced and loaded with flavor. There were several Szechuan peppercorns in the dish, which added to the aroma and flavor of the dish. Overall - I really like this dinner! While I do feel Jianghu is slightly better, this is amazing as well!

Big portions that are reasonably priced and several tables for large groups. It's in a former Chinese grocery and the decor wasn't much of an upgrade. The ordering experience was one of the most bizarre and frustrating I've had in recent years. But the food itself was delicious. Since we were driving with young wailing kids in the backseat, we called the restaurant 20 minutes out to place our order. The lady who picked up the phone told me in Chinese that the restaurant was very busy, so I should place the order when I was 10 minutes away, or better yet, when I was at the restaurant. I tried to explain that the whole point of placing the order by phone was to avoid waiting, but she had put a male Chinese-speaking colleague on the phone, who told me to just order at the restaurant because he was too busy to take phone orders. With that, he promptly hung up on me. Ten minutes out, I called again and tried to order eggplant in garlic sauce and fish in chili oil. The same man I had spoken to before had tried to get me to just place the order when I arrived at the restaurant, but I again told him that we were trying to avoid waiting for our food since we had young children (now screaming) in the car. He reluctantly took my order (I was told that my third request--vermicelli with spiced minced pork--was not available). Frustratingly, when we arrived at the restaurant, they had not even started cooking our food, so we had to wait about 15 minutes. The food itself was superb. The eggplant is some of the best I've had. The fish in chili oil was also wonderfully tender, though there was a slightly higher ratio of Napa cabbage to fish than what I've usually experienced for this dish at other restaurants. The interior of the restaurant was modest and cafeteria-like. I can't comment on the service quality for dining in. If it weren't for the rough phone ordering experience, I would be keen on ordering takeout or dining in there again.

You get three skewers in one order, there's not a ton of meat on the stick but it's nicely roasted with a dusting of the chili salt seasoning that brings back memories of street food in China. My husband mainly gets it for nostalgic purposes haha - but it's a nice snack. Total comes to $26, which feeds two people two meals, so really good value. Great for a night off from cooking.
