I do not have a washer and dryer in my building so finding a great laundry and dry cleaning service was a necessity. I used Washio for over a year and had constant issues with them from damaged items, late delivery, to being totally over priced. I switched to Life Without Laundry and it has been total smooth sailing. They have 1 day turn around on my laundry which is amazing (Washio was up to 3 days.)!! The price is about half of what I was paying at Washio and they are ALWAYS on time, not to mention the owner, Alex, is super responsive and texts me back with any questions I have had. I highly recommend Life Without Laundry for all your laundry and dry cleaning needs!!! (I have not yet used them for alterations, so can't speak to that.) read more

My parents owned a dry cleaner for 35+ years in NY and I worked in it during my middle school/high school years on the weekends - so I know what to look for in a dry cleaning store. I tried out 4 different dry cleaning/laundry delivery services when I first arrived in Boston about a year ago, but Life Without Laundry really stood out. Yes, they do exceptionally high-quality work, but so did one other store. What makes this place exceptional though is the owner, Alex. If there is any mistake, he will fix it rapidly and do so with a positive attitude. All our clothes come back so well cared for-they even know how to fold a fitted sheet so it is flat! The times I have contacted Alex with a question he has responded within minutes! I reeeeeeealy wanted to like LWL. I never seem to have time to get to the cleaners, so my dry cleaning has a tendency to pile up and then cost me a mint when I finally get around to getting it all done. I also live in Northern Dorchester, which is still close to the city, but a virtual delivery dead zone. Obviously I was psyched that they were willing to pick up/drop off my dry cleaning. The prices also seemed really reasonable, even with the delivery service worked into the cost. Sadly, if something seems to good to be true, it probably is. One of the reasons I wanted delivery was because I always have to be in 20 places at once. This is not supposed to include in my apartment, waiting for the delivery guy because he's a half-hour late for the two-hour window I already gave him. This happened twice, mind you, on both pick-up and drop-off. So now I have my clothes back. This morning, I pulled my fav pair of pants out of the plastic, threw them on, look in the mirror, and see noticeable mark, about the size of a dollar bill, around my left pocket. The kind of mark that is made from using a too-high heated iron on the wrong side of the garment. The kind of mark that I can live with, but in never really going to go away. The kind of mark you try to avoid by sending your clothes to be CLEANED BY PROFESSIONALS. I freely admit I suck at laundry. If I can't put it in on the cold wash setting with a cap-full of detergent, I'm probably going to ruin it. But this is why I pay other people to do it. I appreciate a small, upstart business as much as the next person, but my entire experience was unprofessional.I think the business has potential, but until it has a few more years under its belt, I'm sucking it up and hauling my a$$ to the walk-in cleaners. read more

While I can appreciate a local, independent start-up and understand the bumps along the road, this dude is ridiculous. Not only did they have bad service, but their spokesperson/owner just asked me to take down my review or change it! It is our personal freedom to write these reviews and I shouldn't be bothered by the companies to re-write a more favorable review! Also, I reiterate that it is ILLEGAL to force your clients to "eat" their credit card charges. He claimed that "Since we have a low margin service we would be hard pressed to eat that merchant fee per order. :-( So we simply ask our awesome customers to help us out with the charges (ex 3.8% for amex)" Either don't accept credit cards, or pay for the fees yourself, like you are supposed to! Well, I have to agree with Jay, they really dropped the ball after they clearly let people overbook after the GroupOn went out. There was an issue with the pickup date, I had scheduled a pickup for a time that I had an appointment. It was a major hassle to get them to switch the pickup time, as they literally could NOT do it using their online interface...weird and major design flaw. Anyway, they picked up my laundry (10 minutes after the quoted hour time slot) and took it away. I sat at home the next night for the 9PM-10PM pickup. Fast forward to 11PM and I finally get a phone call after writing a few emails. They said there was no way they could have gotten me my laundry that night. I suggested that in the future perhaps they email or call customers if they KNOW that they're not dropping off. He agreed that would have been a good idea. They finally dropped it off the next morning, in two clear bags...not in the free hamper they promised ("oh yeah, those are on backorder"). Half of the clothes were folded inside-out and smelled very odd...not bad...just odd. At least I got them back. Definitely would not return unless they do some serious re-thinking on the way that they book and handle orders. Bad customer service can really ruin things... read more

We tried this with the GroupOns, but were very dissapointed - mostly because the driver showed up to our house obviously stoned out of his mind. We were very hesitant even to hand over our dirty laundry! When our laundry came back, we had to remind the driver to give us back our original laundry bags - he was going to drive off with them! We still have two Groupons, so I bet we'll use the service at least twice more... but only when we're really in a pinch and can't do our own laundry over the weekend. I think the pound for pound services at laundromats are probably a far better deal... and they don't include stoned drivers. read more

Life without laundry is another great find on yelp. It's a great service and the owner Alex is great and very easy to deal with. The service does take longer than it used to but I think that's a consequence of a growing/more popular business. Before I used to be able to have laundry back in about two days but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore (which is why I'm knocking one star off). That said, they still do a great job and it's nice to have your laundry come back clean and folded. Alex was great about updating me as an item went into the wrong truck. He even helped me track down a missing item (it never left my apartment building) and there's something to be said for great customer service. I've also sent out larger items for dry cleaning such as comforters and they've always done an excellent job. Someday, I'd love to learn how they fold stuff and stack them perfectly in plastic bags (they do an amazing job with fitted sheets) but until then I'm perfectly content sending my laundry/dry cleaning out to them whenever I have too much to do. The scheduling process is really easy on the website and the unattended pick up/drop off works perfectly if you have scheduling conflicts. read more

I just spent ten minutes putting away my clean laundry. That's it. Ten minutes. No fifteen minutes of sorting everything into color piles. No bundling two loads into a bag and lugging them down the treacherous basement stairwell. No hanging out in the creepy basement, feeling like I'm getting dirty just standing there, while trying to clean my laundry in an ancient washer and dryer that I had to wrestle away from the girl who always leaved her stuff in there for two hours. No lugging everything back upstairs when it's dry only to despair over how wrinkled a shirt can get during a three minute trek up the stairs. At first I scoffed. I thought it was too self-indulgent to have my laundry cleaned and delivered, a poor use of money. But then I tried it, in the hopes of getting all my laundry clean at once so it would make future cleaning easier. And all my clothes...are cleaner than I could ever get them! Spots that I couldn't get out no matter HOW many ways I tried are now gone, and I didn't even use the stain removal service. The inevitable discoloration of my favorite lacy white bra has mysteriously disappeared, giving me my pretty white undergarment back looking as good as it did when I bought it. My clothes are all hanging out in my closet now, wrinkle-free and shiny and new, and I didn't sacrifice an entire evening of my life to make it happen! Which is nice, considering I work long days and don't really love having my weekends given over to laundry. When my laundry arrived, I adjusted my monthly budget to make room for LWL's monthly service from now on. I just can't understand spending all of that time and all those quarters for poorly cleaned laundry when I could go with LWL and get laundry that actually looks and smells clean! I'll also never laugh at people who get their laundry cleaned again, or call them self-indulgent. The money is well worth a little less stress, in my opinion. read more

I can't believe I haven't gotten around to reviewing this awesome service yet. I grew up in a small town where three different towns went to my high school and our graduating class still had less than 150 people. Color me surprised when my friend told me that people would come to my apartment, pick up my dirty clothes, wash, dry, and immaculately fold them and bring them back. What?!? Sign me up! I first tried them out in 2012 when I had a lot of life stuff going on and got way behind on laundry. I've also used them at season change over so that everything is lovely and ready to go. They fold everything perfectly, down to the tiny cat t-shirts I accidentally threw in once. It was actually friggin adorable. I will admit that it was a bit awkward turning my undies over to a stranger the first time but I quickly got over it once I realized how glorious it was to not have to worry about laundry. Whatever they use for laundry detergent and fabric softener smells amazing too. If you prefer your own detergent and softener due to allergies or just personal preference you can send that along as well. Even clothes that have been in my drawer for a couple months still smell fresh and crisp. The owner, Alex, also told me that one client sent all of his clothes when he was moving so it was one last thing to pack so they definitely can handle a high throughout too. Alex is always prompt to answer emails or return calls if you have any questions and will help guide you if you need to include any special instructions about your order. I learned about Life Without Laundry when they ran their Groupon promotion. I thought, "Hey! I hate laundry. This is totally worth the money in exchange for my free time." That was a good thought. My laundry just got delivered to me, one day after sending it to them, all fresh and folded. I paid $13 for 20 lbs of laundry plus $.55 per extra pound. Every time I do laundry, I spend at least $10 to schlep my bag a block to the laundromat, get barely dried clothes out of the dryer, and grudgingly fold my own damn laundry. The extra couple of dollars are totally worth using this service. I know that some laundromats offer laundry by the pound, but I've found this to be a much better value. Our building's laundry machines were getting ripped out unexpectedly the week we were going to do laundry so we rolled the dice and tried life without laundry. The customer service was top-notch, 1. because you can get ahold of them 24/7 via phone, email, text, whatever, but 2. and even more importantly, their customer service not only is an actual human but sounds like one. I hate when you just want to speak to a regular person who isn't reading a script and has to read off a minute and a half of BS before asking for your name. These guys are real people. The drivers were all friendly, and understanding, even when there was a mistake on my part about when drop off was. I wish every business in the service industry was as good as these guys. read more

I used to walk to the laundry place down the street and pay $4 to do about 10lbs of laundry myself. After making the switch to Life Without Laundry I don't know how I ever lived without it. For merely $11/20lbs I am able to get my laundry picked up, washed, folded, expertly handled (never shrunk, never bled, never anything besides clean), and delivered back to me. The only thing better than the fact that your laundry is done quickly and cheap is the customer service provided by the owners. OH MY GOD THEY ARE AMAZING. Seriously; you book a time online (and they do 8-10pm, which is why I chose them), they pick up your stuff, they wash your stuff, and they deliver your stuff in one day. I pack the bag so full that it would be about 10 regular loads at my building's washer and dryer. The delivery folks always just hoist it over their shoulder and away it goes! Also, the owner is super amazing; we had to discuss a minor error in one of my orders, and he called me himself so we could sort it out. It's sort of like the Peapod of laundry! It makes my life a whole lot easier. The only other possible con I can think of is that the drivers can be a tad rushed and unprofessional once in a while, but I'm sure they have to deal with all kinds of people and it must be stressful. A few tips: They only have one kind of detergent, so if you want something specific (like unscented), just enclose it in the order. They always follow the instructions in your order, but just make sure you write them in the delivery instructions - there is NO separate section for washing instructions, but they always read that part. (Like not drying certain items, washing a separate enclosed bag separately, etc.) You can request a text when the person is approaching your home, but they aren't always able to do it. read more

I moved in March 2015 to a building without a washer/dryer and no where close to a laundrymat. WTF. I remembered seeing a post for Life Without Laundry a long time ago - and searched it up. I checked out other reviews here on Yelp, and ended up getting the deal to try it out. POSITIVES: 1. Alex was great. He was very quick to reply to my question about the deal by email. 2. Both pick up and delivery drivers were courteous and friendly. They were right in the middle of the time frame I chose. 3. I love how everything is so simple to figure out online. They give you the option of whether you want to be home or leave your bag out (not possible for me) - and you can choose a two-hour time frame. 4. You are given a new laundry bag with an ID tag for the next time. 5. Laundry was fine - clean, folded, smelled great. NEGATIVES: 1. I'm poor 2. I'm poor 3. I'm poor. ***That being said - I'm poor and I will still use this service. Previously when I lived closer to Sud City - I used to drop off my laundry and pick up. Life without laundry makes my life easier. I have only ever use LWOL for dry cleaning as I'm pretty tall, and I have crazy long go-go-gadget arms and legs, so I don't dry most of my laundry for fear of shrinkage. Each time I have used them for dry cleaning I have been very happy with the results. I wear a suit to work almost every day, and I'm on a tight budget. To add to the tight budget, I'm a kind of a sweaty girl. So whenever I send my suits in to be cleaned, they are pretty funky. Most dry cleaners have given me back suits that kind of smell at least once. Never with LWOL. Everything comes back brilliantly cleaned, pleats properly pressed, and smelling like clean dry cleaning. Not to mention there are no extra charges for things that require "additional time" (i.e. pleats, lining, etc.). I love that the pricing is up-front, and never changes unexpectedly. That being said, you must pick the right descriptions for the right items on the website. The best part is that the pricing is reasonable for Boston, and you can easily budget via the website. Winning! My only complaints? 1. Pick up and drop off times are two hour windows. It would be great if the day-of I got a shorter one hour window. Two hours at home is a long time when you work long hours. 2. The last time I used them, they couldn't get everything done on time. However they did call me to reschedule drop off, but couldn't send me the items that were already done. This meant I had to wear a smelly suit to work, when I wasn't planning on it. Womp womp. At least they were nice about it. Overall? I give 4.5 stars because of the two hour wait times, and the missed drop off. I'm pretty forgiving and round up, so they get 5 stars. Their website is very clear about the services and easy to use. They walk you through step-by-step on selecting a service that works for you, scheduling a pick-up and drop-off, and paying. I sent in 6 bags full of laundry. Jeans, button down shirts, t-shirts, under garments, sheets, towels - everything all mixed together. Unfortunately, a few shirts had even been peed on by my cat. It all came back the next day, nicely folded, sorted, and smelling nice. I'm not sure how the price compares to other laundry services, but it was completely worth it. I had a great first experience. My bff found these guys and suggested after seeing the laundry bomb that went off in my apt. I lined it up on a wed, was picked up on thurs w a text letting me know, returned clean and neatly folded on friday. I had a boat load (2 large bags) and it was about $95 all said and done. This is literally the best service ever invented! The only thing I am upset about is the fact I didn't find it when my son was born 4 years ago. The customer service so far is exceptional. My husband and I wanted to run to the hardware store during our "drop off" time frame. We called to see if we had time and they let us know that our laundry would be dropped off on the later side of our scheduled time. When our laundry arrived, it was folded beautifully and our socks, including our son's tiny socks, were all matched up. At this moment I told my husband, "we are never doing laundry again". Not very pleased. We had the service for 2 months and had 4 total loads serviced. Alex and the customer service were great. However.... - I live in a high rise building and my drivers would often call me and tel me to bring my clothes to them or pick them up from the front door rather than actually picking up or delivering. - Several of my clothes and my wife's clothes (none were new) came back shrunk at least half a size. My favorite golf polo with my university's logo (nearly $100) is unwearable because it is so much smaller. - The folding was often horribly wrinkled. - We paid for the premium service with stain removal. Didn't really see that happen. - Our driver came almost 2 hours late once. Alex did give us a $25 reimbursement, though. Called after hours, which was nice. I wanted to like this. Again, amazing customer service. But I just can't justify the expense. I would not recommend. read more

Oh Life Without Laundry, how lucky I am to have found you. I had what you might call a ton of laundry. This was not your average haul...I had not realized the sheer volume of laundry that had built up after 4 years of no laundry in the building and just getting one load every once in awhile done. The pick up and drop off folks were not judgy (they could have been) and were very professional and efficient and my laundry came back beautifully folded and in great order. The convenience of this service more than makes up for the price (only a few cents more than an average drop off service--and you have to go to those drop off/pick ups yourself). I have been impressed time after time with their meticulous attention to scheduling and perfect folding...hello color coordination?! (seriously, even my mom commented). I tried LWL over a year ago and wasn't happy with the way my clothes were folded. After my partner started a new job, we were desperate for some household help and decided to give this laundry service another chance. I have been thrilled with every order since then... the clothes are folded SO crisply and it could not be more convenient to schedule an order. My gf and I were looking for a laundry service to wash EVERYTHING we owned. We were moving out of a nasty place with bug infestations. The landlord had paid for someone to spray the place, which took care of the problem, but left our clothes reeking of the chemicals used. We had tried washing a few things to see if we could get the smell out but it left our clothes still smelling like the chemicals, so we started looking for professional services. Alex and Life Without Laundry come highly rated in the Boston area, as you can see from all the other reviews. The $5 coupon on Yelp works; I was skeptical given the "Yelp Rules" tagline, but my gf insisted it would work, and lo and behold, Alex responded with the discount confirmation email! We had 6+ large garbage bags full of clothes: not a problem. We were also moving and requested the delivery to go to our new place: not a problem. I had specific questions about service and pricing: not a problem; Alex, the owner, answers the phones and was happy to clarify everything. We got our clothes delivered and they were folded PERFECTLY. Seriously, it's not possible to fold clothes that neatly. The fitted bottom sheet to our bed was also folded PERFECTLY; that just blew my mind, I didn't think that was physically possible. Everything was compact and neat. Best of all, the chemical smell was gone. Alex knows exactly what he is doing. Well designed website, great social media engagement, and superior customer service all around.
