Baklava
Nina J.

Authentic Lebanese food run by a lovely family. Excellent service. Welcoming to families with young children... Must try the baklava!

No customers and it 7:16 pm so it must not be good?

Which drove from Myrtle Beach to Charleston, South Carolina, and we were looking for Lebanese restaurants and we came across Layla's Lebanese cuisines in South Carolina, on king street. My wife and I approached the restaurant, and there were no one at the front desk. When we looked inside, there are two people having dinner. So I told my wife, I'm going to the restroom and if someone comes, I'll be right back. I was met by a lady small frame white lady and she said, "may I help you?" I said, "yes, I want to wash up, where your restroom?" And she said the restrooms for a customer's only. I said "I am a customer" then she said "let sit you" I said, yeah, but I want to wash my hands but you can sit my wife, she is waiting at the front." She said, "well, you can leave if you want to" I said that "you're very rude". We're just gonna sit down and eat but I guess we're not welcome. The owner "Andrew" came out to address me and the situation and offered me free food for my troubles and the food was horrible, it made us sick, it was flavorless, tasteless just bad, it was not Lebanese food. I see why you are not doing well since I only see two people eating. Bad experience. Buyer, beware.

Baklava! Yummy!

We came here on Christmas Day, so there was a limited, but excellent menu. The fried fish and lamb shanks are both extremely delicious! The baklava is also just amazing. A very tasty and enjoyable meal all around.

Try the Lebanese coffee with cardamon. But make sure it's early in the day it may keep you running for a few extra hours. The lamb shanks were the surprise hit of the meal. Don't waste the opportunity to try them.

This restaurant is amazing! Went here for a birthday dinner, the food was delicious and the service was great! Such a fun spot to have a nice dinner! 5 stars!

We saw this place on King Street nestled among many other boutique shops. I have limited choices because I'm both gluten and dairy intolerant. I called and they said they could easily meet my requirements on many dishes. So my wife and I went there for dinner. The staff was friendly and helpful. My wife ordered baba ghanoush and I ordered some veggies to eat along with that. I also ordered the lentil soup and the beef Shawarma main entrée. The soup was the best lentil of soup we've ever had and we've been to Lebanese restaurants in New York, Chicago and London and tried many places. It had just the right amount a flavor. It was not too salty and the texture was just great. The flavor was just alive with it My beef Shawarma was served with a tahini drip and rice, and that combination was nothing short of amazing. The tahini flavor just sang through the food and the beef was cooked to perfection. It had to have been the best beef Shawarma I've ever had. My wife shared it with me and just could not get over how good the flavor was. The owner came out and spoke with us, and she was so pleasant and described how she cooks every dish herself from scratch. Everything just had the right amount of flavoring and was not salty at all. We could not recommend this place any more than this. It was just fantastic and the next time we come back to Charleston, this will be visited again for dinner or lunch.

Cheers!

Great place to celebrate a birthday! The staff were welcoming and accommodating, the drinks and food were phenomenal - OMG, the Seared Salmon was perfection, and the chill vibe was exactly what we were looking for. Yes, will definitely go again!

This delicacy, a dessert by name osmaliyeh , was made fresh in Laylas kitchen , but seemed it was designed in heaven .

Fantastic taste ambience and service The owner Leyla , who is also the chef , and treated our party like a family guest. There are not many vegetarian friendly restaurants in the area but Leyla had many on the menu . In true hospitality the chef was willing to make a couple more that were not on the menu. It was the best Mediterranean food I've tasted past!

I was dubious because the restaurant was very empty on a Saturday evening but the food was delicious. It definitely had king street pricing because our entree was $50 which was frankly too high for what the food was. It was good, but very few meals are $50+tip good. The servers were very friendly and welcoming.

One of my favorite places in Charleston! We had the Halloumi cheese for app and then shared the steak and chicken kabobs. Delicious as always! Andrew and Tino along with their family are amazing! Service is always excellent and decor is super cozy. Highly recommend!

Whew, this is a tough review to write. We started with stuffed grape leaves and hummus, I had the beef shawarma, my girlfriend did too, my daughter had the chicken. I wanted to love this place, and honestly it's pretty good food. The service was really weak, they only had two people there and one was the cook, o hope that was a temporary thing so I won't hold it against them. The problem was the prices. There is no way I should walk out of lunch for three at nearly $250. It's just completely unjustified especially for this meal. That's what a meal at Oak Steakhouse would have cost me, and this was not an analogue to Oak (or Hall's, or Burwell's, or any other $250 meal). I was legit appalled at the size of the bill when it arrived. Again, food was good, and if it was priced within reason this would easily be a 5 star experience. But these prices set an expectation that just was not met... common problem in Charleston. J.Ja

Fried whole bronzini

Succinctly, the experience was overpriced for what we received. But for a bit more explanation: we were visiting Charleston, a place I once lived, for the holidays and decided to try Leyla Fine Lebanese Cuisine on our last night there. Many of the food Mediterranean places I liked when I lived there have closed down. But this spot had good reviews so I convinced my family to try it. For clarification, we love Lebanese food - and have had some of the best from DC, NY, and Texas. The food: we ordered the lamb kabob dinner, chicken kabob dinner, and the friend whole fish (bronzini). The cook on the lamb was done well. It was tender enough but it was not very much lamb (six medallions or so). The chicken was chicken. And the whole bronzini was surprisingly executed well. I had never had fried bronzini before so I was a bit surprised by how well they cooked it. The sauce that accompanied it was full of flavors and a touch of heat. A disappointment for watch dish was the rice. The rice wasn't the good basmati I'm accustomed to. It was a long grain but didn't appear to be what I've cooked and experienced elsewhere. They told me it was basmati before ordering. Oh and we ordered hummus. Almost forgot to review it because it was so forgettable. The sad dry cold pita they served with it was so tough and chewy. It was disgusting to be honest. Basically it cost us $190 for what I explained above (20% gratuity included although only three of us ate). I normally don't post low star reviews but I expected more from this place at that price. Larger quantities, better rice, warm pita, and maybe some tabbouleh on the menu would've changed this experience for us. I only saved one picture of the food - the bronzini (again it was pretty good).

Friendly staff, but absolute tourist trap. Average food for way too much $. Empty on a busy weekend for good reason.

When Adam's Kitchen showed up as a spot with Mediterranean offerings we decided to check it out. We got there just before their closing time and were prepared to order our food as takeout, but the people were friendly and welcoming and encouraged us to stay. We were too hungry to argue, and wow, did it turn out to be a lovely experience. The food was prepared fresh, came out quickly, and served with care and a friendly smile. My lamb gyro was perfect - served on warm, puffy pita with fresh veggies and a generous drizzle of tzatziki. My partner's chicken shawarma sandwich was equally tasty, but the crowning glory was the house-made baklava that was subtly enhanced with orange flower essence that elevated it to something truly special. We're here to visit the Charleston area for just a short time with so many things to do, but we're definitely making time to head back to Adam's kitchen before we leave for a stash of their to-die-for baklava, Dubai chocolate, and whatever other of their homemade treats strike our fancy. If you're in the Mt. Pleasant area and have a hankering for excellent Mediterranean food prepared and served up fresh by friendly people in a comfortable, laid-back atmosphere, you won't regret checking out this little gem of a restaurant!

KAIRO'S MEDITERRANEAN - FIVE STARS & THREE THUMBS UP!…read more I honestly cannot believe my wife and I have been coming to Kairo's Mediterranean for several years and I've never written them a proper review. So this one is LONG overdue! This has easily become one of our favorite places to eat. We probably come here twice a week, and there's a reason we keep coming back. THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Everything tastes incredibly fresh, authentic and flavorful, and it's one of those places where you can eat a big meal and still feel like you ate something healthy. And I have to specifically mention the tzatziki. My wife and I have traveled throughout Greece and visited several of the Greek islands, so we've had the real thing plenty of times. It can actually be surprisingly difficult to find tzatziki back home that tastes the way it does in Greece. Kairo's absolutely nails it. It's fresh, creamy, authentic and delicious. Honestly, everything we've tried here is packed with flavor. The best way I can describe walking out of Kairo's is this: You have a circus in your mouth! There are just so many different flavors going on, and somehow they all work perfectly together. GREAT PORTIONS WITHOUT CRAZY PRICES Another thing I really appreciate about Kairo's is the value. Eating out has gotten expensive just about everywhere, but you can still come here and get a fantastic meal without spending a fortune. We regularly get a huge platter with fries, drinks and tzatziki, and the value is incredible. You can easily have a great meal here for roughly $10-$12 per person, depending on what you order. They also have a surprisingly large selection of drinks, which is another nice touch. But as good as the food is, there's something even better... THE PEOPLE & THE SERVICE! For me, great service can completely change a restaurant experience, and the team at Kairo's is absolutely spectacular. They've had many of the same people working here for years, which says a lot by itself. Everyone is friendly, polite and welcoming, and you can tell the team genuinely gets along and enjoys working together. And I have to give a special shout-out to the manager, Griffin. This guy is AWESOME. He knows us by name, remembers what we order and takes care of us every single time we walk through the door. That kind of personal service is becoming harder and harder to find. Griffin and his team don't make you feel like another customer walking through the line -- they make you feel like family. The restaurant is also always immaculate. Every time we're there, somebody is cleaning, wiping things down or making sure everything looks right. The whole place is consistently spotless. After several years and probably more meals here than I could possibly count, Kairo's continues to deliver every single time. Authentic Mediterranean flavors Fresh, delicious food Fantastic tzatziki Huge portions Excellent prices Tons of drink choices Spotlessly clean Incredible staff Outstanding management And most importantly -- CONSISTENCY! If you love Mediterranean food and haven't tried Kairo's yet, put it on your list. This isn't just somewhere we occasionally stop for lunch or dinner anymore. It has become one of our regular places -- and one of our absolute favorites. FIVE STARS AND THREE THUMBS UP FROM US! Keep doing exactly what you're doing, Griffin and the entire Kairo's team. You guys have created something special, and we'll definitely keep coming back!

I usually just make my own bowl based off of my mood. It's always good and the ingredients are always fresh and flavorful. The MP location was a little bit dirty at the time I was there, but they were also busy so they might not have had a minute to wipe down tables. The service is pretty reliable. Not to compare too much but I've had some issues with the service at Cava recently, so Kairos is winning in my book!

Originally, my girlfriend & I were going to eat at the Cook Out further north up US 17 Business on Labor Day Monday, 9/2/24. But it started heavily raining, and it was only to go at this Cook Out; the one I went to before was dine-in, so that threw us for a loop. We would've had to wait outside in the pouring rain to order and then eat in the car, which I had no interest in doing. We were ultimately meeting up with friends down on the boardwalk south of 8th Ave N. We had parked on Broadway and thought about eating over there, but nothing stood out. We walked to Ocean Blvd, there were a couple of places that were to go or just wasn't feeling. Shwarma's King looked promising and coincidentally that's where some friends already were. So, we settled on that. My biggest pet peeve with restaurants is no courtesy cup of water for paying customer of food. Water should be given no questions asked. You order at the counter. I will say the owner was very nice. And we were desperate since I don't normally do food purchases from a business who refuses water. My g/f went ahead and paid since I froze when we talked about the no water cup, and she bought water. I will also say that the Schwarma wrap was great. It was too bad he denied courtesy cup of water, which should be a given with the meal because I think I would've given this 5-stars instead of 2-stars considering the friendly owner & great food.
