Level Up Arcade is a fun place to come and hang out with friends. The mixed drink menu is pretty small, but the drinks they do offer have cute video game-themed names like "Princess Peach." If you don't like gin, however, there are a lot of mixed drinks that are off limits for you. There are 14 beers on tap, but they're all pretty much local IPAs and craft beers and whatnot, so if you love Irish beers like I do, you'll have to settle for a Eugene-based beer. I played games with friends the last time I was here (i.e. Pac Man, pool, etc), which was more fun than just standing around drinking. However, I have a few complaints. The women's bathroom has a stall that does not have a functioning door, and the bathroom lighting is really, really dark. Furthermore, my friend ordered a basket of fries, and Level Up Arcade never put the order in and he didn't get his fries. I'll probably come back, but not because the place has amazing food and drinks; Level Up Arcade is appealing because it's an arcade, not a bar. read more

I'm so glad both here and Shoryuken League exists. Arcades are few and far in between since the early 2000s. Anyway, the bar has a wide selection of liquors to choose from along with a varied selection of beers on tap. They have their own Level Up Pale Ale on tap, but I did not try that today. Still, it was cool to see. The games themselves were pretty nice. There was stuff from the 80s, 90s and 2000s present. Some buttons, sticks and one TV screen (The Simpsons arcade game) could use some fixing though. Some buttons such as the Right Kick in Tekken 4 did not work and others such as the control stick in the Simpsons and the fire button in Striker 1942 were slow to respond. Still, most of the games worked and played just fine. I enjoyed my experience there. read more

Level up is an A-OK option for Eugene. I've never done the Barcade thing, but it's pretty cool. The place is decked out in just about every arcade game you can think of. They have a pretty solid selection of beer and hard liquor. They carry RPM's Boneyard IPA which i'm a big fan of. We came here for a "Team Building Event". Yes, I was paid to come drink Beer, drink Whisky, eat Pizza and play games. I love my job. The pizza was decent. It's no fancy gourmet type pizza, but the crust was bubbly and tasted good and the toppings weren't skimped or over the top. Considering the food was coming out of a barcade, it was legit. Even with tons of machines to play games on, the spacing is great. You dont have to stand shoulder to shoulder just to play a game. They don't jack up the prices on the arcades like most bars do, which is smart considering that's their gimmic. They have parking out back which is free for customers only, and I believe it's 3 hour parking at that, pretty cool again. Why only 3 stars? Well, it's nothing that I would want to come running back to on a Friday or Saturday night. Video games and drinking work when I'm at home, borred, with nothing to do. But on a night out? I wouldn't bring my wife here for fun, nor would I really suggest it to my friends. If they had a pool table, I might be willing to reconsider the rating. I know it's not a video game, but it's still fun and needs to be in every damn bar! No, just no. I came here on a whim for the first time and last time a few days ago. Never again. I have been fighting the urge to come here since shortly after they opened as I love Blairally a whole bunch and as a native to Portland, love Ground Control. But this place while neat-o looking just doesn't cut it. the staff is not knowledgeable about what games they have which is frustrating. Here's how the 12 minutes I was there went: I ordered a beer then, grabbed a dollars worth of quarters out of their change machine looked around for Asteroids but couldn't find it. So, I asked the bartender if they had Asteroids. My question was met with a blank stare followed by the bartender telling me 'I think it's here as an option on one of the Mario Bros games.' You've got to be kidding me. I could be wrong, but in what universe does this combo even exist? If you don't know just say so don't make something up. ugh. read more

The former Indigo District space has undergone yet another renovation, and this time, they're onto something. It's heaven, if as a kid you were ever obsessed with The Last Starfighter. The original, horseshoe-shaped bar remains, but the rest of the space has been largely cleared to make room for '80s and '90s arcade games, a dozen or two pinball games, a few tables, and a DJ. Most games are set to play for 50 cents, but some play for free, so it evens out. Opening night was crowded and chaotic, but things were a lot more manageable on a subsequent mid-week visit. I noticed that quite a few screens were blank on my second visit. Was sad to see Centipede had already gone belly-up, Dig-Dug's V-Hold was blown, and Whirlwind Pinball had gone blackout. Not surprising considering we're mixing vintage electronics with PBRs, in a crowded space. I cringed to see Asteroids used as a cocktail table. Come on, kids, that's a vector display! Pizza, burgers, fries, and other pub snacks are served, along with cocktails and microbrews on tap. Minors are permitted until 9 pm. Come in the early evening, and your soul will be fed by overhearing a parent teaching their children the ways of Pac-Man. Or the sight of a little girl totally entranced by the swirling 4-bit bees of Galaga. And you think, yes, there is hope, for the next generation can still learn to value quality over technology. read more

My issues start specifically with the guy with the glasses; he is very rude and ignores everyone with money to spend apparently and costs the business customers and multiple drink orders due to his lack of professionalism. You can drink while you play, making this place the next best place to your own livng room. Very good taplist here, with a bunch of local beers on tap from Ninkasi, Oakshire, and Hop Valley to selected beers from Bend like 10 Barrel. I've been to Level Up several times over the past few years. Barcades are fun, and I like that they have air hockey. The last time I went in was on Monday 12/28. I was not impressed by the bartender's attitude that evening. I came up and asked if they make hot toddies, and he rolled his eyes at me and said, "I guess so". I told him not to worry about it, but that I would need a minute to figure out my order. I asked if they had Fernet, and he acted like I was bothering him before grumbling that they don't carry it anymore. It was a Monday night and it was pretty slow, so it caught me a little off guard that talking to me seemed to be such a big pain in his ass. At that point, I decided that getting a glass of water was probably going to be my best bet, instead of wasting my money on a half-assed cocktail made by someone who clearly doesn't want to make one. To be fair, this is the first issue I've had with the service here. The blonde woman who bartends (or used to? been a while.) there is super friendly. The drinks themselves are definitely dive-quality. The video game art is really cool. The lighting was also super bright for a bar, which felt a little weird, but whatever. We have stopped at Level Up Arcade a couple times now. The first time, we were looking for something to do with our 9 year old on a Friday evening while staying nearby. He loved everything about the arcade. There's a great mix of both newer and vintage games, including a vast row of pinball machines. It wasn't overly crowded and we ended up there, just in time for the last 15 minutes of Happy Hour. The bartenders were great -- super friendly, attentive, and helpful. I'm not much of an arcade junkie, but I do enjoy me some inexpensive entertainment and the option of an adult beverage whilst partaking. There's lots of pinball, and a bunch of old school games Mike Tyson's Knock Out, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. Centipede & Millipede, Mortal Kombat, to name a few. Some shooting simulations (African safari and a dinosaur theme) were always occupied. Games cost a quarter or 50 cents. Minors allowed until 7pm. There are 2 machines that make change out of cash bills, but nothing that changes nickles, dimes and pennies into quarters, for those who consider bringing their piggy banks to fund their video game habits. The bar isn't anything amazing, but add a cheap beer to your arcade experience, and it's a fun place for grownups to act like a kid again! read more

I can't believe that before last night I had never been to this place! It was suggested by my boyfriend after a spontaneous dinner date to somewhere we had never been. I guess we were just feeling fun, haha! We both drank margaritas all night, which I was unsure of getting at first because some regular bar margaritas are NOT good. These were! The bartenders were so friendly and made really good drinks! It wasn't too busy for a Friday night which was fine by me because I would hate to have to stand behind people to play a game. We played pinball, pacman, basketball, air hockey, racing games, pool. It was a lot of fun and I would definitely go back! This place is alright. I love the idea of a Barcade with tons of awesome retro games and good beers on tap, but there are a few things that need improvements. As a few of the reviews pointed out, a lot of the games are not in good condition, and being that this is half of the focus of the place, I think that if they don't tend to making sure that the games are in perfect (or as near to perfect as can be) order then the place is just going to turn into a bar with no place to sit. At the "grand opening" yesterday there were still quite a few games that were not switched on, or not working properly. On the plus side the variety of games is really great with shooters, classics like Dig-Dug and Pac-Man and great multi-players like TMNT and The Simpsons and the amazingly fun multi-player table top Pac-Man. There was a lot of fun to be had here and makes going out to the bar with friends a really great time. We all agreed that we felt like kids again. Beer selection is great, but I didn't get a chance to check out the menu because we had all just eaten at the Maize lounge right next door. Will definitely be checking this place out again and hopefully the games will be in better shape soon. read more

Super disappointed with the service here. I have a restraining order against an abusive ex partner who broke into my home, physically assaulted my friend (costing over $7,500 in medical expenses), followed me/repeatedly tried to contact me after I told him to stop and caused me to feel extremely unsafe. Yet, the bartenders (especially KI who was extremely rude and passive aggressive, which I have video evidence of), refused service to myself as well as my friends after my ex was forced to leave due to legal reasons. My friends and I sat at the bar for 15-20 min as he obviously went out of his way to help everyone around us. He then tried to reason that we were "too drunk to be served" and claimed not to know my ex, even though they have been friends for years. We had 1-2 drinks that entire night and were not visibly intoxicated. Additionally, the bouncer at the door would not have let us inside if our physical state was intoxicated beyond what he considered safe. My friends and I are regular customers of this place and I am truly amazed that KI (who as a bartender at an establishment, should not be letting his personal and biased opinions interfere with his job) was this petty and immature. read more

I did not like how the bathrooms were down a hallway in the back. The arcade area is very loud. There was a guy that came by himself and was hanging out on his phone across from the bathrooms for a long time. Went here to round out my night in Eugene. A bunch of locals suggested it to us. It's one of the only places in Eugene open until 2 am. Nice tap selection. I probably shouldn't be surprised by this too much though since Eugene has got it going on. Good cider choices too! I'm usually not a cider gal, but the hop cider intrigued me. Anyway, hip place with games and pinball machines of all kinds. I kinda freaked out when I saw Star Trek pinball. I failed at skee ball. Good for arcades some are pricey at $1.00 rest are 50¢. Went for soccer game. They only had it on 2 tv's asked to put it on more and they did. Food is blahh but good enough to grab one thing to hold you over til you get to a restaurant and also so you're not just putting alcohol into your stomach. Fries were far better than the tater tots and the boneless wings were way better than the chicken fingers. The drink I got was awesome the "super fresh". We're Los Angeles natives, so we found this place at random while on our way back from our Summer Roadtrip. Never seen a place quite like it back home, but I most certainly wish we could have one. We went here on date night and though we were easily the oldest couple in the place, we were also the only pair who played many of their arcade games the first time around, when we were kids. That said, the atmosphere is dark, it's a bar, there are a ton of vintage games and new + vintage pinball machines. Some of the coin slots don't work, some of the controls are sticky (just like a regular arcade!). Most of the machines have cup holders attached to hold your drink; some are broken off. But playing Dig Dug on an arcade machine while drinking a brew from Hop Valley is pretty cool. We had fun at the air hockey table, too, and with skee ball. A couple of guys monopolized the basketball shooters, but they were good, even drunk, so we didn't bust up the matches. The bouncer seemed like a good enough dude, though seeing a bouncer at an arcade is a bit of an anomaly. Probably necessary in our college town, though. Overall, a good time. We'll definitely visit again. read more

Had a lot of fun here! The games are an interesting quirk and are affordably priced, allowing you to have an off brand night out at the bars that is just as fun as dancing at one of the campus or downtown bars. The drinks here are affordable, $4 vodka well drinks all around, and the service is truly excellent. I observed an individual while playing a game accidentally shatter his drinking glass, and from out of nowhere the bar back was there cleaning up, assuring the man that there was nothing to worry about. If you are lucky enough to be served by a bartender that goes by K I, make sure to chat him up. He is full of interesting stories and provides truly excellent service. This place is fine. We actually came here for trivia but they apparently don't do trivia anymore. They did offer us some cards against humanity cards which almost made up for the lack of trivia. The drinks are fine, they had kraken rum specials on Thursday night, not sure what different weekly specials they have. The bartenders were fine, not too friendly but made adequate drinks. I mean how hard is it to really pour a beer from a tap?!? The bartender seemed more interested in checking his cell phone than engaging in good customer service but the busser did a good job of clearing our empty glassware. Fun place to go and grabs some drinks while getting your game on. Between the classic arcade games, pool, and air hockey you would be hard pressed to not have fun. Level up has a lot to offer for a fun night out and should definitely be given a chance when thinking about going somewhere new. This place is cool. It's really fun on a week day afternoon when you have full run of the pinball machines. Waterworld and Beetlegeuse are the best! They also have great bartenders and if you have them make a bloody mary or maria with the house infused alcohol, you can't beat it. The benches are a little dingy, but meeting friends for happy hour or stopping in to play a game of pinball on a machine with a drink holder is hard to beat! Go Level Up! read more
