Husband was craving Shakshuka, so we went to check out this spot. It is one of the warmest, most welcoming, delicious smelling restaurants I've had the pleasure to be in! We sat in the back area and I was thrilled to see they built around 2 trees! My Bloody Mary was otherworldly and the husband enjoyed his fig infused vodka cocktail. Backyard has a clear roof to let sunlight in as well as ample seating for groups and couples. Between two people, ordered the Moroccan Cigars ($13), Fatush Salad ($14), and Hummus ($12). Cigars are three to an order - filled with sautéed mushrooms, eggplant, and a cilantro mix. Rich flavor, pairing well with the side of tahini/harissa. Hummus has a wonderful nutty flavor and a thick texture that was easy to scoop up using the fluffy pita bread. Fatush salad is a mix of romaine, feta, chickpeas, and other veggies with a light dressing. A good break from the other two dishes, though nothing outstanding. To drink, had the "Chai Maple Rush" ($14) - a strong combination of bourbon, chai, and maple syrup. Service here is great as the staff came by often without us having to ask. Went here recently and the food is absolutely fantastic, service was great. My one complaint! The QR-code menus! It's almost impossible to read the tiny font on the PDF menu, so it took a really long time to go through the entire menu, compare the different options, and pick out what to order. Also, the menu is ten pages long as a PDF. It has very nice photos, but they make it even harder to navigate. We gotta bring back the classic physical menu. Especially would be helpful here because a lot of the dishes are sharing dishes, so you want to be able to look over the menu together with your table. read more

Really nice spot. Nicely decorated inside with outdoor seating as well. We went late night so it was pretty empty but I see people here all the time. Short rib bowl was so good, chicken wings seasoning was great, and the hummus with pita was very good. Solid option for Israeli-style hummus plates and mezze. I started with the labneh, which was meticulously coated in zaatar and was quite pleasing to the palette. As part of the lunch special, I chose the shakshuka hummus, which was tasty, although it didn't have that inexplicable richness which I have found the highest-quality hummuses to possess. I think it might have been due to the interaction with the shakshuka sauce, which to be honest was overpowering. Just renamed the restaurant (same owner) to Levantine Mediterranean Cuisine, the reason is to bring in additional Levantine dishes and to echo the transformed ethos of the restaurant. Hummus is no longer the focus, but rather an evergreen stable to support traditional menu items that may include meat also, including basar hummus, harissa chicken wings, and short rib tagine. The revamped decision might perplex some regulars, but the onset of Covid really changed the approach of the restaurant and its meaning to further represent the Levantine cuisine. Surely it is no different from closing one to open another restaurant, but knowing the favorites are still kept on menu and not compromised, plus the spruced up backyard for all seasons should keep the customers returning as always. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! I am astonished it is not more crowded when I go because everything here is fabulous including the service and of course the star is the food. I have taken out from here many times and been satisfied but recently had the chance to go in person and went with a bunch of friends for my 40th birthday gathering (a friend coordinating the gathering knew I would love eating here and she was right!) There was over 10 of us and we were able to share all the dishes which was so exciting so we tried lots of food which is the best! Their hummus is AMAZING--it is silky, smooth and so flavorful and it comes with amazing pita which is hot when it arrives to your table and super fluffy. They have multiple types of hummus to choose from as well so we got to taste almost all of them. We had the fish Crudo appetizer to share which was so tasty and unique. We loved all the appetizers we split as a table and were almost too full to order regular dishes! We got the mezze with carrots, cauliflower, labneh and eggplant (two people who don't even like eggplant loved this dish!). Every plate was finished completely and I don't think we left anything over because it was so good. Their sweet potato latkes were some of the best latkes I have had (perfectly and lightly fried and crispy) Their feta and watermelon salad was scrumptious and we loved their quinoa salad as well for starters. Our main dishes were the salmon and the chicken shawarma-both very good! We loved this place because the group has some vegetarians and they were able to eat almost anything--those that aren't vegetarians did not miss eating meat at all because of the flavors and uniqueness of the dishes. Middle Eastern cuisine is probably my favorite type of food or at least up near the top and this place truly stands out-I cannot say enough good things. We sat outside which was nicely decorated and our waitress was so sweet--she kept checking on us, providing great recommendations on how much food to order, drinks, desserts etc. The price of items if very fair to compared to other similar restaurants I have been to. I may have found it. My favorite hummus in NYC. I'm very particular about the type of hummus I like. My ideal hummus is smooth, creamy and full of tahini flavor (not into the super thick kinds that may still have some chickpea chunks in it). And that's exactly the kind of hummus you'll find at Hummus Market. It's almost too thin for hummus - that's how thin it is - but it's just right as a dip to be scooped up by the pita and the flavor is delicious. My favorite is the sabich hummus cuz I love the eggplant mixed into the hummus. I would be remiss to not mention their deliciously fluffy pita, which are perfect for scooping up the hummus. I always get more than the default because that's how much I love their pita. I tried a sabich stuffed pita and this was a weird case where I definitely prefer the components separately rather than combined together. Somehow the components aren't as well balanced in the sabich sandwich as say the version from Taim. Like the pita is just a bit too thick / fluffy, and the entire thing just feels much too heavy when in a stuffed form. But all the components individually are incredible. read more

This was a brunch with friends I haven't seen in a while so I trekked all the way to Williamsburg to catch up. While the inside of the restaurant is rather narrow, there is an outside area to eat as well. There are heat lamps located above the table we were at but it can only do so much work and didn't cover the whole table. As for brunch, we had to ask for recommendations because there were so many good things to order. Especially for my friend who is a vegetarian. We shared the whole wheat pita and falafel hummus + the cauliflower nuggets. I would definitely recommend the larger especially with the labneh, hummus and harissa on the side. The other option was alright but maybe we should have chosen something with more flavor like the garlic hummus or the mushroom one. While I took pictures of our entrees, I only tried the salmon croissant with poached eggs. If not for the harissa, it would be a croissant I could find at many other brunch places but it was good. If I had the flexibility in my stomach and wallet, I would want to try the sweet potato latkes or the Malawach for something more unique. However, I had a need for eggs that these dishes would not satisfy. I could come back and try the other dishes I mentioned plus the dinner menu. read more

The opportunity to try Mediterranean cuisine in NY is plentiful but admittedly I usually go for what I know or am more comfortable with when trying to plan a food outing. Recently I visited a place in Brooklyn that offers Middle Eastern cuisine in a casual setting. We are all familiar with hummus but they offer quite a variety of food and drink choices. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as the whole back patio (where I decided to sit). The tables inside are spaced apart accordingly but there are not too many. The seating in the back is actually quite nice and the covering does protect from elements such as rain. At one point I forgot I was outside. I was greeted by a very enthusiastic and polite employee named Jonathan when I arrived. He was packing orders to go as well as taking care of dine in customers. All the staff, including the ones I saw prepping food were all wearing masks and taking proper safety precautions. The menu is available online via their website or through a QR code on the tables. I was originally planning to get a few things to try along with the hummus of course but they have such an extensive offering of things that I have never heard of or have not ordered in a while. So I asked Jonathan for the best recommendations of dishes that represent Hummus Market. He went above and beyond. For the drink, I usually shy away from alcoholic beverages unless I am with a guest or friend. Even though I was dining solo this time, the cocktail menu had some intriguing sounding items. I decided on the "Moroccan" Spiced Gold Rush which consisted of bourbon, spiced honey, lemon and a cinnamon stick. I drank it slowly as the food started arriving at the table but this would certainly be a good HH drink. Now onto the food! The first wave consisted of appetizers - Moroccan Cigars (mushroom, eggplant and cilantro "spring rolls" served with tahihi and harissa), Market Mezze 3 (you pick three items out of at least 6 or 7 choices for a set price) consisting of roasted cauliflower, falafel and lebnah along with pitas. The cigars were quite unique and I think I ate those up pretty quickly. The cauliflower and falafel I was familiar with but it was the first time I had heard of or seen labneh. It differs from the yogurt we are all familiar as it is thicker. It worked well as pita spread. The next thing was their hummus, as you cannot go to a place called Hummus Market and not try their signature dish. It was a platter consisting of garlic, tahini, mushroom and white. The pita was definitely utilized for the hummus dipping. For the main entree, Jonathan brought out the chicken schwarma, which was one of their most popular dishes. The chicken fillet is on a bed of tahini and amba with peppers, cilantro and paprika oil. I just stuck with the pitas instead of getting rice. I finished this dish off as well. So tasty but I would recommend to eat it quickly as the chicken tends to dry out fast. You can dip in hummus or labneh as an option. Another dish that he recommended was the Siniya, which is another one of their top dishes. This one consists of roasted vegetables cooked in spicy tomato sauce and baked in tahini. It is topped with warm chickpeas, mint cilantro and pine nut. This is served with rice on the side. This is something I would have normally stayed away from but I am glad that it was recommended for me to try. Very flavorful and a nice dish to have on a cold night. Now for dessert. I was looking at that portion of the menu earlier out of habit. I was almost at my food limit. It was decided that the classic baklava would be one choice (three modest sized pieces of flakey filo and crushed pistachio). So very good. I took some home with me for later. The other dessert that caught my eye was the Chocolate truffles (walnuts and coconut flakes). Jonathan informed me that all desserts were made in house. The chocolate was very rich. As I write this review the memories of all the good food almost make me as sad as looking at an empty plate. My compliments to Mr Idan and his staff who prepared all the food and came out at one point to check on me and bring out the food. If you get a chance to travel to that part of Brooklyn, definitely check this place out. read more

The simple dish of hummus and pita was done perfectly. Pita was freshly baked and very warm. Falafel was some of the best I've us in the city. Last night I had an absolutely incredible experience at the hummus market in Brooklyn. We made a reservation for four and we're given the option to sit inside or outside. The backyard had heaters and blankets which was lovely. We started with some delicious drinks, there is no liquor but they do serve beer and wine and I had a soju hot toddy. For appetizers we started with the cauliflower nuggets and the hummus trio everything was incredibly fresh delicious and flavorful. For my entrée I had a salad with chicken Shawarma and I really enjoyed it. The service was the best part of the dining experience, Johnathan was amazing!!!
