Levantine is a cozy Mediterranean spot with a crowd-pleasing menu, perfect for our late brunch. We started with the garlic hummus, which was a generous portion and very creamy. There was roasted garlic in the center looked great, but it didn't punch up the flavor as much too much. The pita was fine, but a bit dry and plain. For my main, I had the Israeli Breakfast with a side of pastrami smoked salmon. The eggs were soft-scrambled very well, and the salmon was exactly how I like it--fresh and buttery. I swapped the pita for seeded sourdough, though it looked and tasted more like standard buttered toast to the point that I double-check edwith the staff to confirm it was the sourdough. The Israeli salad was finely chopped and provided a nice balance to the meal, though it was a bit watery and lacked a flavor punch. The labneh with za'atar was thick and rich and good in small doses added to bread or the eggs. However, I think this combined with the other food was the source of the meal ending up being overwhelmingly salty, leaving me reaching for water for the rest of the day. I also sampled the chicken shawarma--the flavor was great, though it was a bit oily from the paprika oil and felt a tad pricey at $28. On a brighter note, the hot mint tea was fantastic, with hot water served over a generous amount of fresh mint leaves for a refreshing and flavorful tea. Despite the saltiness this time around, I'd return to try something else, like the fattoush salad with salmon. read more

We had a fantastic dinner at Levantine back in the fall. Our friend, a Levantine enthusiast, gave us some suggestions and recommendations. We all shared some appetizers to start. The carrots had some heat, and I found myself gravitating towards the labneh and the ultra smooth falafel. But everything was appealing; you probably can't go wrong here. For my main, I ordered the fatush salad ($16) with added chicken shawarma ($7). The salad consisted of lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs, feta, satisfyingly crunchy roasted chickpeas, and lemon dressing. All of the veggies were fresh, there were plenty of 'em, the shawarma was excellent, and the dressing was bright and zippy. Upon entering, Levantine looks pretty teensy but then you're escorted to the back where there's another dining room. My favorite aspect of the room was the living tree growing out of the floor. However, there were a couple of groups and it got kinda loud back there. The wicker chairs were a bit unwieldy. The staff could've checked on us more but it wasn't a huge deal. I came here as I was in Williamsburg and it was in the vicinity of where I was located. From the outside looking in this restaurant looks fairly small, but once inside there's an open kitchen with indoor seating and outdoor seating in the back which is covered up and heated during the winter months. I got seated in the back and there were many available seats. There's a qr code to scan on each table with the menu. Just know that this restaurant will charge you a 3% surcharge for using your credit card. Anyways from the menu, I ordered the Hummus Garlic that came with two pitas. The Lamb Kebabs with Tzaziki Sauce which was a great combination. A Chicken Shawarma with Israeli salad and last but not least the home sweet home with the Israeli Salad and Persian rice. I went with a friend for brunch yesterday at 1:00 p.m. and we ended up staying, grazing, and having drinks until 6:00 p.m. It was great to be able to enjoy the happy hour that started at 3 p.m. The food was fresh and delicious, and cocktails were creative. We had such a nice time; not once did anyone indicate that we needed to vacate the table for new guests. The restaurant is a bit of a walk from where I live, but I'll be happy to go out of my way to return soon. Plus they have a sister restaurant opening next door this week. read more

Very small restaurant, happy to support Israeli restaurant during this tough time. The food was good, I had schnitzel (bread chicken) meal I was happy with the rice and Israeli salad. My bf had the harissa marinated salmon and was pleased. They have their own version of sweet potato latkes which was a fun twist on the original. My bf also had some tequila drink he was very pleased with. I feel the menu could have offered more authentic dishes but I appreciate them catering to American palate as well. I would go back. We decided to sit down this time and it's so cozy and welcoming, I loved the atmosphere of how small and cute this place is! We discovered towards the end there is a bunch of seating in the back! Everything we got was really good! My favorite was the siniya! It's such a simple yet feel good dish to make you feel warm inside! Solid choice for middle eastern Mediterranean cuisine! Came here for brunch this Saturday noon with a party of five, we made reservations in advance though when we arrived the restaurant was only about 40% full at 3-4 tables in the back patio/greenhouse area. The front area of the restaurant is pretty narrow, with seating for about a dozen people, followed by the bar and a narrow walkway to the back patio. The back area sits about 20 people, though the walking area can be a bit snug in between tables esp for strollers or wheelchairs. The lighting hung from the ceiling creates a very warm atmosphere in the front of house and the greenery in the back adds a comfortable garden feel. On a brisk fall day (40's outside), the back patio was nice and toasty. I had the shashuka and some of the chicken shwarma plate, both hearty and flavorful, a great start (or mid-day meal really). The eggs in the shashuka were perfectly cooked with runny yolks and delicious with the fresh, warm and fluffy pitas. I think this may be my favorite pita bread ever, though to be fair I'm no expert in middle eastern food. Chicken schwarma was herby and vibrant, and the Persian rice we selected for the side was chock full of parsley/cilantro, for a fragrant, green bite. The Mediterranean diet has received much attention as a healthy dietary lifestyle. Williamsburg has caught up with this ideal, as there is certainly no shortage of this cuisine here. Levantine, formerly known as the Hummus Market, is very underrated. I am wary that my next statement is an eyebrow-raiser, but it has become my favorite Israeli restaurant in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint area. I have been there twice in the past two weeks, which is very telling, as I don't usually double dip (unless it's their labneh and hummus...lol) restaurants so soon. Heads up, Happy Hour is M-F (3-7 PM), with ALL cocktails for $10 and select white/red wines for $10 as well Their margarita was okay to me- if you're going to opt for a tequila drink I would be biased towards their Summer Tel Aviv-- I thoroughly enjoyed it (a smooth and zesty tequila, watermelon, egg white, think a "tequila sour) Their PITA (served with two when hummus is ordered or $2 for 2 on the side) is the perfect marriage of fluffy and thick and is quite honestly the best pita I have ever eaten (my boyfriend makes topnotch pita, but unfortunately, he has not topped Levantine's notch yet). Both visits I paired the pita with their GARLIC HUMMUS ($14): with melt-in-your-mouth garlic confit topped with cilantro garnish. After having this confit, it has been reaffirmed that garlic is my favorite type of breath freshener! Both times I opted for a mezze adventure ($8 each, 3 for $21, or 4 for $26). Here is the culmination of both adventures: MOROCCAN CARROTS LABNEH ISRAELI SALAD FALAFEL *Moroccan carrots were stellar, somehow they have managed to fine tune balancing spicy with refreshing *Labneh was smooth, tangy, addicting, please get! I have also tried their app, SWEET POTATO LATKES ($14) *The latkes were different from traditional, in that sweet potatoes were used, but it offered another layer of flavor atop the layer of yogurt chive dip. I would definitely give these an order! For entrees, I have tried: 1) CHICKEN SHAWARMA ($25): Savory but not overly salted, doused with tahini with a choice of pita, Israeli salad, or rice. Opted for salad to balance out the 4 total pitas ordered to the table. Would recommend this order! 2) SHORT RIB TAGINE ($29): Slow cooked with maple over a bed of couscous. Would also recommend this entree! It was so tender and the perfect match of spice and sweet (try to avoid the spicy peppers sprinkled throughout the meat). I was there recently for a birthday party, and because I'm in a wheelchair, the staff was incredibly attentive in making sure they brought out the ramp and took extra care in getting me up those first two steps. The food was incredibly well cooked, the pita so fluffy, and the chicken so tender. I certainly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere that made that party feel more like a relaxing get together with great friends. I highly recommend for anyone, especially for the wheelchair bound. Went to Hummus Market for dinner with a friend. The space was super cozy and close to the subway stop which was helpful bc it was pouring rain that day! The food was sooo delicious. We got the hummus trio with regular hummus, tahini hummus, and garlic hummus. I especially loved the garlic hummus. My friend got the chicken shawarma with rice and I got the salad and added chicken shawarma to it. The servers were very nice but my only complaint was that the food took awhile to arrive. I suspect that the server forgot to put our order in at first, which is why after we had already been waiting about 15 min, he came back to confirm what our order was. Our food then took maybe 30 more minutes to arrive. This was a bummer but I'm hoping that it was just an off night/situation. I would definitely still return. read more

We were looking for Israeli food for my dad's birthday dinner. We got a table for 8 and were sat in the back room. It was pretty tight in there. While our waiter was nice, the restaurant was super full and I don't think it could handle all the groups of people well. We each ordered drinks and the drinks didn't come out when we got our appetizers. Waited even longer for them. For appetizers, we shared a bunch of dishes. The hummus really is delicious and the warm pita bread is great. We asked for more pita but unfortunately the pita was brought out when we got our main dishes and we no longer needed it. The restaurant forgot my chicken schnitzel dish so I just shared the burger with my husband. They also ran out of fries for the night and it was only 730pm.. the restaurant has lots of potential but needs to figure out a better system for food and service. It was my daughter birthday, and she loved Israeli meditation food. So we serch for a local one ( she lives in Brooklyn), my other daughter finds Lavantin. This is a really great place! The food tastes amazing and the pita is to die for, it is the softest and fluffiest pita I've ever had. The vibe was amazing, cute and small area with beautiful music. Our waitress was also friendly and attentive. Shakshuka tasted great, perfectly stewed and 2 over easy eggs + 2 pitas (choice of whole wheat or white). Portion was a little small. The hummus combo had unique flavors (garlic, mushroom, and tahini) and tasted so creamy and fresh. It also came with 2 pita breads. I couldn't stop eating it. The cigars were so tasty but I think a little over priced for only 3 of them. ($16) The mulled wine was presented well and tasted like a typical mulled wine. And the milk & honey was kind of like a spiked latte (warm and very milky with a rich, earthy taste because of the star of anise) and came in a small espresso cup. The food here is quite good! I had Moroccan cigars, hummus plate with falafel, and malawach. The Moroccan cigars and falafel were fried to crispy perfection and had plenty of warm spices complementing the fillings. The hummus was very rich and creamy, and the pita it came with tasted fluffy and fresh. The malawach is a crispy layered flatbread, kind of like a Malaysian paratha. It's served with a marinated egg, labneh, and fresh tomato puree. Everything there was great too, especially the buttery malawach bread. My friends had the levantine burger, chicken shawarma, and hazaga (short rib sandwich), which they all liked. This is absolutely worth the trip. read more

Coming from someone who has tasted many hummusim and many of them in israel, this hummus is fantastic. Highly highly recommend the falafel hummus, it comes with two heavenly fluffy pita (both regular and whole wheat are good). I don't know what special ingredient they put in this dish vs other hummus places but it works. I also got the shakshuka, which was good with a nice kick (my only minor suggestion is to cook the egg a little longer, as the whites were a bit runny). Jonathan, our server, was super friendly. For dinner we enjoyed the falafel hummus, the cauliflower nuggets, and the Sephardic the Ashkenazi. The nuggets were an instant fave! Everything was flavorful and great for sharing. We didn't love the avocado toast though as the bread was a bit strange but that's the only thing we wouldn't order that again. Service is a bit brusque and somewhat spotty but overall fine. We sat in the back area and I was thrilled to see they built around 2 trees! My Bloody Mary was otherworldly and the husband enjoyed his fig infused vodka cocktail.
