Why hello the Levain bakery? I have been wanting to try this bakery for a really long time and I'm so happy that I was able to find this while walking around with my husband. I would say the cookies were delicious. Definitely come here if you wanna try original cookies in Maine so delicious so huge. I wish I could've taken more at home and I wish it was more easily accessible in the town that I live in, but I was very happy to see this location. Services quick is kinda like good to go one top shop place. I would definitely say come here. Try it out. There's so many people that came into the store while we were eating a cookie read more

My order: GF Cookie (also vegan) and an oat milk cortado The Review: Honestly, 5 stars simply for a great gluten-free option. A hotspot for cookie-hungry people in Back Bay, even when the line seems lengthy, Levain efficiently satisfies everyone's sweet tooth. I had to order an espresso drink once I noticed that they had a special Levain-branded coffee from the local Fazenda roasters. I stand by my caffeinated decision. The smooth, full-bodied espresso paired perfectly with the sweet, indulgent cookie. Suffice to say that Levain made my day. read more

Overall, great experience at this Levain location. I wish there was more seating but glad there was at least a bench and some seats inside on a cold winter day. Staff is friendly and there is merchandise for purchase in the store, as well. read more

This is my second visit to Levain, tucked between Ganni and Covet Boutique. They offer more than just cookies--loaf cakes (like Banana Chocolate Chip and Sour Cream Coffee Cake), breads (Whole Wheat Walnut Raisin Loaf, assorted baguettes, ciabatta, and whole grain loaves), muffins, scones, and more. I was surprised since I don't remember them expanding beyond cookies before. The service is friendly, and it can get crowded inside due to the bakery's popularity. There's only a few seats inside. I stuck with what I usually get since my sister's never had a Levain cookies. We got the Chocolate Chip Walnut (my favorite) and the Two Chip Chocolate Chip. While the cookies are dense, packed with chocolate, crispy on the outside, and gooey on the inside, they're not my favorite compared to other places (though, to be fair, I don't live close by). If you're not eating them right away, I highly recommend popping them in the air fryer. Overall, they're good but I've had better elsewhere. read more

Got the baguette with jam and butter. The baguette was warm with a crisp crust and a soft, airy inside. You can tell it was fresh out of the oven. The butter was smooth and just salty enough, and the jam had a clean, fruity flavor without being overly sweet. Highly recommend. read more

Personal opinion but these are the best cookies out there!!! I prefer the buttery cookies over the super sweet cookies, so if you want something super sweet ... this is not your place. These cookies are so delicious and well worth the money. I love that they have gluten free cookies too. Not only does this place smell amazing, it's always super clean and staffed with the friendliest souls on earth!!! I love these cookies and totally recommend stopping by here the next time you're strolling Newbury Street. read more

What a cookie !!! I'm not a cookie person but had to try Levain as a friend shared how popular it is and I was craving something sweet and more importantly there's a gluten dairy free cookie !! It's an experience I won't forget like the first time you tried something really great ! A slight crunch on the outside and soft and doughy on the inside !!! Sooooo good !!! A definite must try if you are in the Boston area. I think the gluten free option has walnuts and not sure what else but it settled well with my tummy so I know it's good ingredients for a sweet treat. read more

Been seeing this bakery all over IG and finally got the chance to try and see the hype! It definitely lived up to its hype. Cookies plump like geese-- We hide in pained resplendence. A leaf slowly falls. -- I've been looking to Levain for some months now but I could never get to the location in Los Angeles. It took a trip to Boston and its environs to get my dirty little cookie fix. And it was effing worth it. That probably was one of the most exquisite cookies I've ever had. It was like dark chocolate and peanut butter enacted a dark ritual and sacrificed all sense of decency to do so. Decadent and enriching are apt words to describe I had when first biting in. I loved this cookie. read more

Went there for the chocolate chip cookie and it was just ok. Maybe we got a bad one but mine was hard and a little over cooked, while the cinnamon raisin had very little flavor. A big disappointment. Service was very polite and fast though! read more

A trip to Boston is not complete without a stop at the Newbury street and Levain bakery is right here. We actually walked up to King Arthur bakery but that was closed to we happened to visit Levain to fulfill our sweet tooth craving post dinner. What's the first thing that hits you- fresh smell of baked goodies right out of oven! I believe something or other is constantly coming out of their grand oven. Its a cute little store with only to-go options and everything- Everything is made from scratch, their huge prep area is there for anyone who wishes to watch. The staff was super friendly. We got their most fast moving chocolate walnut cookie, a soft ball of bread (it just looked so shiny and round, couldn't resist though it was just bread). Both were really good and melt-in-the-mouth types. Items are limited simply for the reason that everything is made from scratch and fresh everyday. I am given to understand its a big name in New York, am sure it is a big name here in Boston as well..... read more

Had chocolate chip cookie. Very dense! American but not typical American cookie in a positive way. It's not chewy (I don't like chewy one), crispy and heavy, with good chocolate. One can satisfy dessert cravings. Want to try something else in the future. read more

Dude! This place is sooo good! We don't typically have these types of cookie places out in San Diego. My husband wanted a treat after we were walking most the day. We even brought some cookies home for the flight. Definitely recommend read more

Was walking by and saw LEVAIN!? I had to try it, I've heard of the legend but never got to try it. Did it live up to the hype? Well, not really. This cookie was good but not life changing. It's got a lot of great textural qualities and it's obviously using high quality ingredients but it's not as life changing as many have made it out to be. For what it is, would I buy another one? Yes. Would I say someone needs to run out to the nearest Levain to try this cookie, probably not. I bet the double chocolate or the Chocolate pb cookies are really good.. So I'll get them one day for sure. I'm happy I got the opportunity to try this. If you're walking by and are in the mood for a cookie, don't hesitate to try it, but I wouldn't say it's a destination. This is a very subjective review, I personally like a thinner cookie with a crisp outer layer and a gooey middle. This, is obviously a very thick cookie, still delivers a similar texture experience though. Try it if you can and take it for what it is, a good cookie, not a life event. read more

A friend was very excited to take us to this place. He had nothing but amazing things to say about these cookies! The line was long but moved fairly quickly. Inside looked very clean, and there were plenty of workers keeping things flowing smoothly. I ordered their signature chocolate chip with walnut cookie--it was served warm and was huge! We decided to sit outside to eat, but that was where I made a mistake. There were lots of small birds outside, and as I was mid-bite, a bird swooped in for my cookie! It was terrifying! The cookie was delicious and nicely balanced, not overly sweet but rich and chocolaty. My stomach can be sensitive, and the middle of the cookie was a bit undercooked. After the bird attack, I decided to call it quits on the half-eaten cookie, lol! I also didn't want to risk a stomach ache while walking around the area. read more

If you're a cookie lover (or just a cookie monster at heart), Levain Bakery is your new sweet paradise! Usually, the line outside stretches like cookie dough--both ways! But we lucked out, sneaking in during work hours, and only waited five minutes. As soon as you step inside, it's like BAM! Freshly baked cookie magic hits your nose, and suddenly, your mouth is watering like a cookie monster staring down a chocolate chip mountain. Now, they have soooo many cookie choices (seriously, it's a sweet dilemma), but I went with the OG: their legendary Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie. The staff? Super friendly, the service? Top-notch. And the cookie? Oh, this isn't just any cookie. Imagine the outside with just the right crunch, while the inside is warm and gooey, melting in your mouth with each bite. It's cookie perfection! The vibe? Totally cookie-licious, with an aroma that'll make you want to stay forever. Levain is the ultimate cookie stop, where each bite feels like a playful, tasty dream. Don't just think about it--go get your cookie fix! read more

This place is a dream come true for cookie lovers--especially if you're into chocolate! Their dark chocolate cookie is hands down the best I've had in the U.S., and the Rocky Road was next-level. I am not sure why their vegan cookie is also gluten-free, but it's not that good which is a shame. Not really worth the price either. The cookie craze just like the cupcake & froyo craze is eventually going away. The market is saturated & there are better (vegan) cookies out there. I mean the cookies are practically raw in the middle & too crunchy on the outside plus not even warm. read more

Came back to Boston for another work trip so I had to stop by and try the rocky road cookie I was eyeing the last time! I loved the cookie! So many textures from the marshmallows that were sticky but also parts that were caramelized from Maillard reaction during baking to the crunch nuts and the decadent chocolate! Service was great as it was the last time I was here! The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The location is in the back bay so you can take the cookie and go on a nice stroll or sit outside in the tables in front. read more

Came to Levain Bakery on our trip to Boston after seeing it all over instagram. The line to enter was out the door at around 3 pm on a Saturday, the inside bakery was very small and cramped so they could only hold so many people. There was also extremely limited seating inside and chances are, you wouldn't get a seat with the amount of people that came in. As for the cookie itself, to me it was extremely overrated. The inside was practically raw, but the outside was cooked. Overall I would definitely skip this place next time I am in Boston but with a line out the door and the amount of people in the building, there is a good amount of people who enjoy this. read more

The hype is real at Levain Bakery! The SO and I stopped by the Boston Back Bay location to pick up some souvenirs to take back home and were very excited to try these. We came right at opening, very fortunately, to an empty bakery, but the smell of freshly baked bread, cookies, pastries filled the room. We ordered: - Chocolate chip walnut - a classic nutty cookie. Wasn't my favorite, but had to order as it's a fan favorite. - Two chip chocolate chip - so chocolatey! I really enjoyed this one after microwaving it at home... super ooey gooey. This one was my favorite out of what we ordered. - Oatmeal raisin - pretty basic and can't go wrong with a classic. - Caramel coconut - reminds me of a thick samoa cookie, my second favorite. - Lemon - great lemony flavor with white choco chips. A tad too sweet but would typically be my top choice. - Double chocolate chip peanut butter - pretty chocolatey and the pb chips really bring the flavors together. Super decadent. - The Levain Tin box (for gifting purposes) The baker that helped us was helpful and explained the deal of purchasing the tin box (buy 8 cookies, get $5 off the tin). He also was patient as I flip-flopped on which flavors to get so that was well-appreciated for lil' ol' executive dysfunction me. Overall, these cookies traveled well in my carryon and made it to its recipients in one piece, and they were a hit! read more

We were visiting Boston and stumbled across this bakery while strolling down Newbury St., that I believe I had seen being highly recommended on a YT video, so, I figured we must give it a try.....especially with the steady stream of people walking in and out....it must be a pretty popular place. This place is a pretty small bakery with limited...albeit amazingly yummy looking offerings, with some bar seating inside and some tables outside along the sidewalk. Since we just wanted a quick taste of something from here, I decided we should try the Banana Chocolate Chip Cake. We couldn't wait to tear into the paper baggie and start tasting it, and did so as soon as we got outside and.....Oh Woooooowwww!!! I love banana walnut bread, but this is perhaps the most moist, fluffy, semi sweet, and incredibly yummy cake I had ever tasted! It was so heavenly...and made me immediately want to go try something else, but no.....when on holiday with all this yummy food everywhere, I have learned to practice serious self control....or regret it around the waistline later! :D This was a great find, and I would definitely come back here if I were ever visiting Boston again. read more

10/10 with the hype and the price. The line was a bit long but the staff was quick and patient with various customer questions and selections. Clean store with a nice modern design - no indoor seating but with the close proximity to the park or grabbing it to go - it's a win! Love that there is barely a line compared to NYC. A delicious indulgent cookie. The original chocolate walnut is always a must and a fav but this new summer lemon flavor taste really delicious as well. It doesn't hit you with as much of that chocolate taste. Reminds me a bit more of a undercooked scone but in the best way. They are both pretty heavy but fun to share and taste. I tried the chocolate chip cookie and the dark chocolate with peanut butter chip cookie and both were good. I would recommend either eating them immediately after you get them or pop them in the microwave to soften them up a bit. I waited about an hour after purchasing them and they were a tad hard, but still delicious. I waited until I got back to my hotel and heated them up and they were much better. I thought I would like the original chocolate chip the best the dark chocolate and peanut butter chip was a clear winner. Will definitely be a repeat customer! read more

Another place I've always wanted to visit and can happily check off my list. Everything in the display case looked amazing! The desire to buy everything was strong but I went with a two chip chocolate chip. I loved the outdoor sidewalk seating area. Plenty of space for all and very picturesque on a warm sunny day. The cookie was unreal. Packed full of chocolate chips and the perfect texture. I was shocked by the size of it. You could indulge in full or easily split the cookie for two. The pastries are pretty good-- I went here with my mom, the cookies are incredible. They're probably 20% muffin, 80% cookie. They have a small variety of flavors, but we also got a doughnut, a pecan roll, a few other things to try. For the hype, the line (15 mins), the price (high for a bakery, even by Boston standards), and the staff being unable to answer questions like "what do you recommend", and their having no place to us to sit in that very full store, I'll deduct a star. It was a great cookie, but it will be a to-go order next time. read more

TLDR: This is a dense, sweet cookie and I'd HIGHLY recommend having it warm with a glass of milk. ------ Tried Levain for the first time after hearing about them for years. I got their famous chocolate chip walnut cookie and it was handed to me warm, which was such an experience because I'm not used to getting warm cookies at bakeries. It was such a decadent, melty cookie, but I think it was more underbaked than I'd personally like given how tall it is. Also it was just so overwhelming that after a few bites I couldn't have any more. Maybe O was going into carb overload. Despite having the biggest sweet tooth ever, I managed to put the cookie away overnight and I revisited it in the morning with a glass of milk. Having the milk to even out the sweetness of the cookie actually helped so much, and I easily finished the rest without a problem. If you're someone who doesn't like things too sweet but still wants to enjoy this cookie, I'd highly recommend pairing the experience with milk. ------ STORE ENVIRONMENT: * Beautiful store in back bay but really only has standing room inside and then I believe a few tables outside. I saw a few people snacking on their treats inside in a corner by the windows though, so when it's later in the day and not as busy, that's also an option. * I LOVED how late this store was open at night, and even when I went around 6 pm on a Saturday, they still had plenty of cookies read more
