Every time it's perfect and then when I get up to pay I'm always amazed at how they charge so little for this amazing food. We chose Lee's Bakery for an easy afternoon meeting spot for our friends. It's located in the plaza next to the gas station. We accidentally turned too early into the Aldi lot. Lee's Bakery is nothing fancy, so don't come here if you want to dress to impress. However, do swing by because the banh mi is da bomb. We got there around 1145. There's a sign that says we need to wait to be seated. We were seated by the windows. Menus and waters were offered. The menu isn't extensive, but has all the staples of a basic Vietnamese menu. We order the spring rolls and 2 combos which include noodle soups and either half or whole sandwich of your choosing (minus 1 option). We ordered the spring roll, beef pho, seafood pho, the combo banh mi, and the grilled pork banh mi. Spring rolls were average. The pho was ok - not the best I've ever had, but it hits the spot. The banh mi was the mvp. The French rolls were perfectly crispy and the pickled vegetables were sweet and crisp. They also offer a special where you can buy 5 and get 1 free. If you order take out the sandwiches are a little bit cheaper. I'll definitely stop by for the sandwiches in the future. They also sell their French rolls. 6 for 1$ for day old and 3 for 1$ for fresh bread. I recommend coming early. It got really crowded and difficult to move after 1230 and the wait time for take out was 30 minutes at 1. Also you have to bring your ticket up and the front will ring you up. read more

Cold and raining days basically demand eating something warm and comforting. I decided to follow some yelp reviews to eat somewhere different than my usual Buford Hwy favorites. When I walked, we were asked if we were eating in or getting take-out. After finding a cozy table in the corner, our waitress dropped off the menu I ordered the seafood pho and the pork bhan mi combo. I didn't care for the pho that much. I'm not sure if it was because I typically order the chicken pho, and the broth in the seafood soup was pork, or if it just wasn't as good as my normal go to restaurant. I haven't been here in a couple years, but I had always known Lee's Bakery to have some of the best banh mi in Atlanta. My usual stop for cheap and delicious banh mi is at Quoc Huong, but when we stopped there around 6:30 PM on Saturday, they were already out of rolls for the night. We still wanted banh mi, though, so we made the drive down south to Lee's Bakery. Parking isn't too bad, the front parking is limited but to the side of the main plaza is plenty of parking. Prices here are a little steeper than its competitors along Buford Highway. The menus and the patrons are more Americanized, as well. The servers speak much better English, and besides the servers, I believe my friend and I were the only Asians in the entire restaurant, which I found interesting. I ordered a beef noodle soup (pho) and my friend ordered a banh mi. There is a combo for about .50 cents off if you order the pho and banh mi combo, but you only get half the banh mi so we decided against it. Banh mi is cheaper if you take it to go, and even cheaper if you buy 5 get 1 free. It seemed like a shame to eat it in store. There were daikon in this one, which I wish they had in the Quoc Huong banh mi, but there was something in the flavors of the sandwich that was different. Not bad different, but not necessarily good, either. But the crispy toasted bread they use really is top notch. The pho broth was clearer than the broths from other restaurants. I liked the flavor, and the meat was good. The price hurt my heart a little bit since it's about $1 more all around, but not significant enough to complain - I know, I know I'm complaining. I sadly don't think I will make my way to Lee's as much as I would hope, seeing as there are much closer and cheaper Vietnamese restaurants to me. Don't be misled by the ordinary/underwhelming appearance of Lee's Bakery- the food is great! I got the LC3- Vegan Pho with fried tofu and vegetables + half of a tofu bahn mi- only $7.95. The sandwich was the star; I wish I had gotten the full one! The tables have an assortment of condiments that make it easy to customize your meal and spice it up in any way you want. I enjoyed the service because they were quick to bring water & take my order, but then left me alone to eat without having to have a conversation with a mouth full of food- something I really appreciate when dining alone. Simple restaurant with lots of take out, the place was quiet at around 7pm on a Friday, but still probably 20 people sitting. But you don't go to Lee's for the atmosphere, you go the get some really good simple Vietnamese food at amazing prices. We had egg rolls to start which were good but nothing special. The pork banh mi (#10), is really great, especially for less than $4. The French bread is made in house and is excellent. It's really a simple sandwich but the combination of ingredients results in a great sandwich. FYI, if you buy 5 the 6th is free (take out only. The beef pho was tasty and very large. Great lunch spot! The prices are a great deal. I got the pho and Banh mi combo. You get a full sandwich and bowl of soup for $10.25. I was stuffed! I got the vegetarian pho and chicken Banh mi. Don't expect all the decor of a Buckhead restaurant, but looks can be deceiving. Lee's has excellent bánh mì and phô. You know the baker in the back knows what they're doing when you get tiny thin shards of crust crumbling into your food basket as you're biting into the pillowy inner bread. Then your mouth gets met with the crispy pickled contents of the sandwich and whatever meat you chose to fill it with. I recommend the Combination sandwich if you're feeling adventurous (sliced pork, head cheese, pâte), and the egg and rice noodle combination phô. My FAVORITE Vietnamese place on Buford Highway, and there's a lot. They have THE BEST banh mi sandwiches, pho's, com bo luc lac ("shaked" steak)! Their pho broths are the most homemade-tasting. Any Vietnamese person can tell you that going to a Vietnamese restaurant and trying their pho is nothing like the homemade thing. Coming from someone who's Vietnamese herself, this place has done it. They managed to make restaurant pho broth taste authentic, and that's because they put the time and money into using the right ingredients and seasoning to make the quality great. They use all of the ingredients you'd find in authentic banh mi, not skipping some minor ingredients like most other places do. It makes a HUGE difference in flavor. They also have pho & banh mi combos, so you can get the best of both worlds. The combo comes with either a half banh mi sand which or full. Such great bang for your buck. This place is very casual, and it's usually packed! So happy to see a local, family-owned restaurant thrive. They deserve it. While the place itself looks a bit run down, the food does not disappoint. If anything, it's looks add to the authenticity of the place. I think what makes their banh mi sandwiches the best is because of the bread. It is so perfect and crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. I've tired many banh mis in Atlanta and to tell the truth, have been disappointed in all of them - for some reason this town can't pull-off the same combination of flavors you find on the streets of San Francisco for less than $2. And that's my second complaint, you often pay $3 or more in Atlanta for what amounts to a hunk of bread with some flavorless mass inside. Not so at Lee's Bakery - besides being tasty these are the biggest banh mi sandwiches I've seen! Now here's a sandwich I don't mind paying $3 for! I ordered two during this visit - one chicken and one grilled pork - both with extra jalapenos and both very good. I was stuffed! If you haven't tried this inexpensive food or have tried and been disappointed as I have been in the past, then you should definitely try Lees! If you're familiar with the area it's in the same shopping center as Co'm (on the left end facing the shopping center, behind the gas station). I saw on their facebook that you can order online, so I did that, but the online order did not have a way to get your 6th sandwhich free (buy 5 get 1 free to go deal). So I thought they would give me a free sandwhich in person. When I got there and told them I had ordered online and about the free sandwhich, the front lady says "No, you must call for the buy 5 get 1 free.if you order 5 online you only get 5". Ok, I said whatever. waited for my order outside since it was not done yet (I ordered 5 sandwhiches, 3 orders of springs rolls and 2 orders of vietnamese coffee). When the order was completed, I wewnt back inside, which was very crowded (no social distancing in place even though there are signs). Got my order, drove back 1hr away home, only to find out they severely messed up my order. Instead of 3 orders of spring rolls, I got 1 order and got 2 ordres of egg rolls. The spring rolls was a .Nothing fancy, nothing incredible just average. The egg rolls were so dry and the dipping sauce was nothing special either. Even the sandwhich was nothing to rave about. A friend recommended Lee's Bakery for the 'best bánh mì' he's ever had. We're regulars at Quoc Huong, and Quoc Huong is known for the best bánh mì amongst the Vietnamese community. We've gone to Quoc Huong since I was a child, so my family and I were skeptical, but we're always willing to try new places, and we love supporting our local Vietnamese businesses. Walking in, it's a typical Vietnamese family style restaurant. Even though it's small, they manage everything and every one pretty well. We came on Labor Day, and it was PACKED. While waiting, my family and I observed the menu. We noticed their framed 'Best bánh mì in Atlanta' and the 'best bánh mì in America' on the menu. With the masses of customers and the dubious statements, we raised our expectations. We ordered pho dac biet while dining in and some bánh mì to go. They have the same buy 5 get 1 free offer that Quoc Huong does, so we went ahead and got 6 -- bánh mì thit nuong and bánh mì dac biet. Let's start with the pho. It's not flavorful. It's bland. I don't think I've ever put as much sriracha and hoisin sauce in my pho at any Vietnamese restaurant or in my mom's home cooking. It was, however, extremely busy, so maybe that had something to do with the quality lacking. Who knows? All I know is that my pho was no longer Lee's Bakery's pho after all the sauce and vegetables I packed it with. Moving on...the bánh mì. Wow. It's delicious. They give the perfect ratio of vegetables to meat. You have the option to get the vegetables on the side -- recommended if you're eating it later. We ate the bánh mì a couple hours after we ordered it, and it was still tasty. I can only imagine how good it would be if we ate it fresh. Perfect amount of Vietnamese mayo, perfect amount of pâté, perfect amount of meat, and the perfect amount of vegetables. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
