What a relaxing experience! After seeing the Living Social deal that offered half-price basic pedicures, I thought I deserved a little discount pampering while on the clock...apparently everyone in Durham had the same idea as the place was packed! The atmosphere is really nice here...dim lighting (I'm very anti-florescent), really awesome massage chairs in the pedicure room, peaceful massage-room-type music playing, and chandeliers over the nail drying station that I was trying to figure out how I could remove and take with me without looking suspicious... After soaking my feet luxuriously and enjoying my much needed massage-by-chair, a nice gentleman came over and got to work on pampering my tootsies and massaging my legs and feet (always my most favorite part!). He wasn't overly talkative, which I appreciated, and what impressed me most about Lee Spa is the staff didn't scream at each other across the room like what happens at most other places I've been. They have a good selection of OPI nail polishes as well. Looking at their brochure, they offer that you and your friends can bring food and wine in to enjoy during your time there. I was looking for a pedi place closer to my new home. I plan to continue looking or keep commuting to Raleigh when it's pedi time. I would go back here if I were limited on time and it was convenient. Overall the service was good. Really nice decor and ambiance. Lots of pedi chairs (sign said 38 but I didn't count). You now have to pay a $1 membership fee (its good for a lifetime though) since they SELL alcohol (no complementary wine here). There is literally a bar in this place with ESPN on the TV. I was greeted immediately upon walking in and given a warm cloth as soon as I sat down. The chairs were above average and nice. The reason I only gave this place three stars is that i thought their prices were high for the service received. $35 for a pedi with a 1 minute massage is way higher than my preferred place that has a superior service with more included (e.g. lengthy foot massage and a glass of wine included at 20% less price). I was in and out of there in 30min. If money isn't an object and you don't mind purchasing a drink to relax with then count this as a 4 star review. I had cash so didn't pay attention to the detailed preferred payment signs that are posted everywhere, but they had signs that ranked their preference of payment options from most preferred (cash) to least preferred (credit card). They also advertised a man cave and looked to have an area they could curtain off if you want to come in with a group (bridal party, etc.) and all have pedis in a private area. read more

Been going here for a year and never had a problem until yesterday. I went to go get my "gel nails" removed, yet again for the second time I had to tell them no I didn't want a fill-in! The gel nail wasn't gel! It was acrylic, I paid $100 3 months ago for the gel and had acrylic! My nails are in really bad condition now. But yesterday I went in and they sat me down and had me soak off my "gel nails". I sat there for almost 45 mins and in between 15 minute intervals I had three nail technicians work on removing the "gel nails" which one technician was the hostess (I don't know if she's even qualified). She was filling down the nail and cut two of cuticles and I was kind of bleeding. I didn't say anything because I know it happens but she came back after a few and asked... "what happened"? So the last technician I know better then the others, so I was pleased. I told him I was mad that I was lied to, I was cut twice and passed to 3 different technicians. He was polite and we started having a general conversation and catching up. But he made shitty comments a few times about my relationship! Saying assumed stuff and made me feel horrible. And they met him 3 months ago when my fiancé came in with me and sat at the bar. And that day 3 months ago when we left, my fiancé told that a few women (that like to kiss my butt when I'm there now) asked to take him out for drinks. Knowing He with me. So that was why he came and sat with me while I was getting my "gel nails" done the first time! I will not be returning! And don't bring in your man in either apparently. read more

Scheduled a girls day mani/pedi....when we arrived at the salon we were asked to wait for the for the manicurist we scheduled with.....then told the one wasn't coming in to work....so two in the party just went with other manicurist and I was asked to wait because they were in the way....waited 15minutes just to be told the manicurist had another appt Scheduled and wouldn't be able to provide my services. I've only visited this salon once but it was a great experience. A friend and I walked in for pedicures and were seated together right away. Both of our technicians were friendly and professional. The massage chairs were fantastic and the facilities were very clean. We were even told we could bring our own beverages next time, to enjoy a glass of wine with our pedicures. The prices were a little higher than other nail salons we've visited but honestly this was one of the best nail experiences I've had since moving to NC. I should mention that my visit was mid-week afternoon, not a particularly busy time, which might be why my experience was so different from previous reviewers. I went here for the first time after my go to nail place was too busy. Very nice inside, though it was a bit hot. They make you buy a lifetime membership for a dollar, due to them having a bar so they are "technically" a club. I went in for an acrylic fill in and an eyebrow wax. The nail tech told me twice to relax, even though I know she was right, I just don't like being reprimanded. All in all, a good job was done by the nail tech and the waxer. This has been my go to salon for a while but the last two times I've gotten my nails done I've had two different staff members charge a completely different price for the same treatment (a friend and I get the same treatment and two different prices) and then today I heard something from a staff member that reinforced that. She was chatting with a customer, while sitting next to the owner and said "if you want us to do a gel manicure on your three year old, we'll do it. I wouldn't suggest it, but you're the one who should love your kid, I don't, we just want your money!" That coupled with my overcharge was really disappointing. I'm still processing if I should go back or switch salons. This place has previously done good work and I've suggested it to all of my friends. It may be time to find a new salon though. read more

I have to preface this review with a bit of context: I'm pregnant, feeling a bit over-worked, and was really hoping to have a relaxing afternoon of pampering. I didn't really get that here. At a friend's suggestion, I walked in around 3:30 this afternoon, and was kindly greeted by two different women as I signed in. I said that I wanted a basic pedicure, gel manicure, and an eyebrow wax. They directed me to the polish wall, and then to my chair. The place was busy, but not overly crowded. Had a nice, upscale, ambiance. I thought I was in business. Then came the mani/pedi-ist. She barely spoke to me, except to rudely tell me to put my feet in and out of the water, and must have asked 3 times if I was sure I really wanted nude polish on my toes. Yes. Yes again. It's summer. It looks nice on tan feet. That's why I picked it. I figured I could focus on my magazine and zone out, but she was pretty rough with my feet. I also figured I could move on to someone else when I went for my manicure, but no such luck. I was directed to the manicure stations where she began working on my nails, and then left for 10 minutes to work on someone else's. When she came back, she again asked about my choice of colors, and poked at my red, sore, ring finger telling me that I "wear my rings too tight." (Again, I am visibly pregnant... I didn't really need to be reminded that my hands are too swollen for my wedding bands.) After she finished, I asked where I could sit to wait for my eyebrow waxing. I hoped I could at least lay down and have someone give me a bit of aroma therapy, but I was quickly sent to a room, waxed, and thrown out. When I said "thank you" she didn't even reply. The worst part of the whole experience came when she rang me up. She said I owed $74.00. I asked if that included tip, and she said no. Not wanting to make a big deal out of it (and with no menu to be found), I added my 20% and left, but double-checked the prices on my way home. She should've charged $28 for the pedi, $25 for the mani, and $10 for the wax. So basically I was overcharged for really crummy service. Mani/pedi/wax look fine, but not outstanding. It's a shame because this could have been just what I needed this afternoon-- there were certainly repeat customers and other technicians who seemed to be enjoying themselves-- But I probably won't be back. read more

As a guy I was talked into a pedi for the spring by my bestie, she had never been and I raved about how nice it is. I've been here before and thought the pricing was high. Went in today and a toe polish change (no pedicure) and a gel fill in. I actually dealt with three different nail technicians. The first gentleman filed and cut down my nails and then said he had an appointment and left. The next lady came and recommended we do my toe polish. At first I thought she did fine but then when I looked closer the polish was caked on the sides of my toes. They don't get five stars from me because the guy forgot to give my toes a top coat and the pedicure was super quick. Not enough leg massaging. I appreciated that my nail technician spoke English and asked if I wanted the cheese grater. It's my favorite callus remover. Usually the technician doesn't ask. My favorite part of the nail salon is the bar. I ordered a nine dollar Bloody Mary at 12:30pm and it was large so I'd say worth the $9, and it was full and spicy on top of it. The woman who did my pedicure, kept trying to upsell me on services and it felt like she was being pushy. I felt that she could have done a better job of painting my nails and cleaning up the work. I've been here many times and brought lots of people here, I've always had a nice experience but this last visit was unsatisfactory. My technician was very pleasant and friendly but just look at the final result- that's not professional, I could have done that. And three of my cuticles were cut and bleeding during the process of my manicure. The pedicure was nice and she did a great job with the massage but the polish on my toes looks the same, you can clearly see a line between the first and second coats. I recently went to the Southpoint location of Lee Spa Nails to use a gift certificate I had been given for a classic pedicure. I walked in at about 6:45. My first impressions: I was surprised by the number of customers still in the building and even more impressed by the number of nail techs working! I was greeted right away by a young girl at the front desk. I was instructed to pick a polish color and then she brought me to a chair. I was greeted by someone who has filling my foot tub (I first assumed she would be my nail tech, but later realized her role seems to be prepping and cleaning), she told me to put my feet in, and left me there with the water running. Several minutes passed, and the tub was continuing to fill... and it started to reach the top. I was sitting in the corner and there was no one nearby to help. I started to panic and tried to flag down the girl at the front and a passing staff member, but no one noticed. I started pushing buttons trying to get the water to stop, and finally a nail tech from across the salon noticed what was happening and yelled to a nearby person to shut off the water. She rushed over, turned it off, apologized... and then I was left alone again. It was a rather stressful start to what I'd hoped would be a relaxing experience. After about 20 minutes since entering the door and having had contact with about 3 different people by this time, my nail tech finally arrived. I understood that by walking in and not having an appointment, I would not be a first priority and I was fully ready to wait, but I expected that I would have been checked in on or filled in on the progress of my wait. She gave me a nail services menu, and I explained that I had a gift certificate and showed her which service it was for. My nail tech was very nice, and she did a great job on my nails. The pedicure itself was much shorter than what I expected. My nail tech brought me over to the sitting area where they have dryers for your feet, took my gift certificate, and left without giving me any directions. I sat wondering how long I needed to sit and wait, how I would make my transaction without having the gift certificate, etc. Finally, after sitting for about 15-20 minutes, I decided my nails must be dry enough, found my tech, who was now working on someone else, gave her my tip, and left. What was interesting to me was that the entire time I was there, a man who I am assuming was the owner, stood in the same place and did not interact with staff or customers. He literally stood in the same spot and alternated between watching TV and surveying the salon. I do not know if he noticed that customers were waiting long times and left unattended (the same thing that happened to me happened to other women I saw come in the salon), but if he did, it would have been a nice touch for him to at least check in. I don't think I will return to this salon. It really lacked any kind of personal touch and I felt kind of like a lost sheep the entire time. The inside of the salon is pretty. CONS: My technician was difficult to understand and really rough with my nails. She nearly took some skin off while filing. She was not friendly and tried to pressure me into paying $10 more for a gel manicure. After my nails had dried I went to sit at the bar and get a drink. This is my go to nail salon in the area. It is a little pricey but in my opinion it is worth the experience. I always request Dusten who does a phenomenal job on my nails. Not to mention they do have a bar (at an extra cost) and specials on pedicures during the week. The nail techs are always friendly and ensure a relaxing experience. The location of the nail salon is also a plus as it is located near a lot of restaurants, various other stores, and Southpoint Mall. I have had acrylic nails and gone for refills every 2-3 weeks for the past 5 years. I did it sporadically before then as well. I've lived in and gotten refills done in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Never in my life have I been asked to pay an additional fee to cut my nails down until I moved here. I don't know what these people are smoking. How can you possibly charge me for something my body does on it's own? Furthermore, how can you get an acrylic refill without having your nails cut down? So people here just let their nails grow indefinitely? None of this makes any sense to me. I've found that about half of the nail salons here charge and half don't. The ones who don't are as bewildered as I am. Now, because I know of this scam to charge extra for bodily functions, I always ask on the phone when I call to make an appointment. The receptionist (who spoke prefect English which, to be honest, was a pleasant surprise) said she didn't know but that I could ask my nail technician. Why do you have a receptionist who can't answer simple questions and doesn't offer to find you the answer? The nail technician did a good job (nothing to write home about though for the prices they charge), the salon was nice and clean and friendly. That's why they're even getting two stars. I don't like this cut down fee, I think it's b.s. You will not find me in that salon again or any other that charges that ridiculous fee. read more

When they presented me with a bill for $60, I assumed I was somehow paying for both pedicures. Later, I asked her about it, and my friend said she paid separately. I asked the salon to refund the mistaken overcharge, and they were belligerent, argumentative, evasive, and rude. They said I got a $60 pedi, and that I had asked for it. They don't realize my friend was with me and recalls it exactly as I do. She got the fancy pedi, and her bill was $50, with tip. I got a basic pedi, and they refuse to refund any of the $60 they charged me for it. I would never in this lifetime have a $60 pedicure. But they say I am stuck with a BASIC PEDICURE FOR $60! Not even gel or something. A basic. Basic. My friend got callous remover, massage and tons of hot towels for $50. I got a basic pedicure for $60, and told I am lying. I'm still somewhat new to the area and have been trying out a few different nail places. My co-workers had recommended Lee Spa Nails, since it is very close to where we work. I was shocked to see a full bar upon entering (would be an ah-mazing place for a bridal party/bachelorette party/pre-girls night), and was happy to see so many mani/pedi stations. I had an appointment, but I think that unless it is the high season, that is completely unnecessary. The girl who did my pedicure was quick & efficient. They had lots of colors to choose from, and I am overall satisfied with my experience. My only issue is how expensive it seemed for the service. For a quick pedicure, I would have expected about $20-$25. My regular (no gel) manicure/pedicure was $45. I am from New York, and have never paid more than $25-$30 for that combo. read more

The service is impeccable, and they serve drinks with service which makes it all worth the visit as well. A five star experience in Durham and I believed I've found my nail salon. I've tried three nail salons in the past 8 months since I moved to Durham and nothing else compares so far in my opinion. It's a pretty big space which is a plus and your immediate my met with a smile while entering the salon. The nail selection is extensive as well which is a another big plus. Tam did my pedicure and yes, she did try to get to sell me a more expensive pedicure pack with a %20 discount Monday to Thursday, but no big deal. I just said no and asked for the classic pedicure which is $35. Still not a bad price. There is also a bar and the patron greeted me kindly and offered me a drink. From other reviews, I believe the first drink is free, but I'm not sure, so I turned it down because I did not want to splurge my first time, and I didn't want to ask "Free Drink?" silly me! In addition, there is a a man cave with entertainment. All in all, it was a great establishment, and I look forward to my next visit. My review is more of the nail tech than the salon, I always have a wonderful experience here, but then again, I always make an appointment and I use the same nail tech. Her name is TWE. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes from my appt time. My gel polish on gel nails lasts forever, and Twe is personable but not intrusive when I want to relax. I haven't had any issues with the management or with the drink request. If my tech forgets to ask, I ask her! The $1 charge is a "private club" fee to serve liquor without a specific license.
