If you are a person of color I disadvise spending your money at this establishment. The lady that did my pedicure tried to upsell me when I already told her what I wanted. I asked for a basic pedicure for $40 and she continued to be pushy and try to upsell the $85 pedicure after I told her no several times. During the pedicure she rushed the service while rudely talking and laughing the entire time not really paying attention to my pedicure. Then I had polish residue that she didn't want to correct but talked about to the other nail tech., I then asked her to correct it. Why rudely & disrespectfully talk about it instead of correcting it? When it was time for my nails she had to take off three and tried to do it by pulling it up with a tip nail, when I told her it hurt she said I will soak it. I feel that should have been the first option and good customer service. I actually feel vacuous for letting her complete the job. I should have gotten up and went to my normal nail place when she wouldn't take no for an answer. Came here as a walk-in, weekday, as soon as they opened. Got a pedicure with callus scrub. My nail tech did a fantastic job with that. Really scrubbed my calluses well, which isn't often I get that great of a treatment. Nail Polish looks great. I had my dip nail polish removed, $15 for removal. Then got my nails buffed. Worst place ever!! After a long day of work all I wanted was a pedicure and to engage in some self care this was far from that experience! While I was serviced quick, they up charge for everything!! I thought it was ridiculous to pay $55 dollars for a basic pedicure and they charge an additional $35 on top of that for gel! As a woman of color do not go to this establishment. I tried to explain to the lady serving me that I liked my French tips a certain way and she completely ignored me and continued to do the service and then got upset when I didn't like it. I even showed her a picture of what I wanted as she proceeded to say she could do it and she simply couldn't. Even after all of this I remained calm but she started ripping everything off of my feet that's when I lost it and didn't even let her finish taking the paint off my toes! I've been a customer of Lee spa nails, near for many years - on and off due to their level of service. I have found only 2 nail techs that do a consistently great job. However, the owner is extremely rude. Although I've been coming for years when I arrived today she barely greeted me. I had to share what I was looking for. She said it would be 30 to 40 minutes; when I asked specifially how long for my specific nail tech she said, a long time and then proceeded to allow other customers coming in behind me to be seated for pedicures. she did not offer me the option to be seen by someone else. Mind you, I canceled a work meeting due to a business trip I have tomorrow and drove all the way from downtown Durham to get my nails done. As a business owner myself, I must call out that this level of rudeness and lack of service is deplorable and unacceptable. I sat in the room & asked for a clean up on my natural eyebrows, she said that I should come back another time if I was going to be "picky". However, I was charged a completely different price than what I was told my SNS manicure would be. When I asked about the difference, I was told that the "cut down" of my nails was an upcharge even though I did NOT ask for them to be cut and there was an upcharge for removal of my previous polish. I regret that I agreed to this swindling and walked out with a $75 bill. $75 for a dip manicure?!? Fast forward to 4 days later and chunks of the powder have already come off my nails. After years of going for pedicures, this salon has lost my business. I had a dip manicure at Lee Spa Nails three weeks ago for my birthday and returned to have it removed today. I did not have a full set of nails placed on top of my already-strong nails. The only fake nails were three tips that were added to make them all an even length. When I had it done, the manicurist told me the dip would last up to four weeks. Today, when it was removed, my nails were incredibly badly damaged. Because my nails are (were) already in good shape, I get a manicure maybe once a year. Never do I apply press-ons. This was my first time with tips. The technician who did the removal and the manager tried to convince me that this damage is normal. IT IS NOT. When I politely asked for a discount, they refused. I never get my nails done, but Lee Spa Nails may just make this part of my beauty routine. You are greeted by the friendliest manager, and immediately can tell how clean the place is. I normally go to the nail tech Sia but she was unavailable this time. I picked out my colors 3 total of gel polish. Then I was seated, this nail tech Sonya came and took a seat. I told her that I wanted a dark grey color which I couldn't find. She then proceeded to say well you know that's going to be an extra $5.00 for 3 colors assuming that I didn't have to funds to get what I wanted... I made a face and told her I don't care I still wanted it. She tried to clean it up and say it's our policy to tell everyone like I've never been a customer before. Already I knew this was going to be a challenge and that she was judging me by my appearance. State Inspector walks in and pretty much the owner who is a woman walks around and telling everyone to put up their foot scraper that they carry around in their personal baskets. Which I thought was odd. I've never got a pedicure at this location and after seeing that I never will. Fast forward Sonya asked me to wash my hands then meet her at the front to pick out this gray nail gel polish I wanted and I still didn't see the gray I wanted. So I just did the colors that were already at her table. In walks her appointment and she's moving super fast doing a sloppy job of painting my nails and talking in a very condescending way about me putting my hands under the uv light to cure. "Some people don't follow instructions and put their hands under the lamp the right way... so place your hand under there and the purple light will turn on etc." It told everything in me to not just walk out. I paid for my service $40.00 left her a $5.00 tip and went on my way. I felt that this was serve as a better outlet then just walking out and not paying for my service at all. After being ushered to a chair without any communication that there would be a 30+ minute wait, I asked about how long once water was cold (over 20 min). An extremely rude and belligerent 18yr old girl, evidently the daughter of the hostess, told me there was no way to know the wait. The level of condescension in her voice was disturbing. She then disclosed there were at least 3 people waiting ahead of me which was never communicated. I suggested they should tell customers if there is going to be a wait, especially if it will be 30 minutes or more, and there are multiple people without technicians ahead of you. She became visibly defensive and agitated. She harassed me for asking for better communication. You have lost a long term loyal customer. I will never be back. Have never had a complaint about this place until today. Super nice people, great atmosphere. You can buy alcohol if you'd like. I came in to get a full set ombre. Typically I pay 45 at most for this. The gentleman who did my nails was nice, easy to chat with although several of his coworkers kept coming over while he was working on my nails-including the manager/owner? who told him he needed to file them differently. Still- ok experience. However when I went to pay and saw that he charged me 70 dollars for a full set with just ombre, I was shocked! I've had my nails done in expensive cities, areas, etc and never in my life did I think I would pay that without any extra detail, different cut, etc in Durham. Sadly will be the last time I go there. My nail salon in Morrisville does a much better job and it's wayyy cheaper. UPDATE: 3 days later and my ombré nails have went from white and pink to grey and pink. I have done ombré the last 6 months at other places and never once have they turned a dirty grey color and this is 3 days later at that. Ridiculous. This was my go-to place for pedicures for many years. Based on my last experience, probably not anymore. They have a limited Covid menu of services. I chose the $50 pedicure even though I there was no real description. What a disappointment! I got no massage at all. Zero. The callus removal consisted of a handful of scrapes across my heel and nothing more. They wrapped my legs in a hot, wet towel which felt wonderful, but then they just took it off and let it evaporate into the cold air. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of service. The nail tech took her time and was friendly. Pricing was the same as Atlanta which surprised me. I expected it to be cheaper. This was my first trip here. Upon walking in I was surprised with how nice it was. As other reviewers have noted, there's some weird $1/one time only fee to be a "member" (some crap about how they have a full bar). Not a big deal. I paid it. There were a decent number of people in there but I didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes for a nail tech to come over. I knew what I wanted. A gel fill-in with normal polish for the design and a gel coat on top. It's what I currently have. I've had acrylic nails before and switched to the gel because it looks nicer, I don't get any yellowing of my nails after having them for a while, and it doesn't damage your nails as much. That being said, I'm not a nail tech, so I didn't want to accuse her of anything before doing a little research, but she definitely applied acrylic out of a jar labeled "gel powder." She then applied a regular polish and did do a gel top coat. At the end of the day, my nails do look really pretty. She technically did a very good job. But the fact is I was charged the price of a gel fill in when I really got acrylic+gel top coat. I wouldn't mind paying the acrylic fill in plus a few bucks more for the gel top, but you can't deny that they're deceiving their customers by pretending there is such a thing as "gel powder." read more
