Extremely cozy and delicious French food. An intimate dining experience with professional and friendly staff They serve classic French dishes at good portions- not too big or small. This place is a price splurge for sure but in my opinion worth it for the high quality food and ambiance. For example the salad was simple but so well dressed. Those small details make it worth a date night or special occasion. We went for a holidays girls dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Get the French onion soup!! So delicious Note I wouldn't recommend groups of more than 4-5 here, the it's not a very large room

Their escargot and the bouillabaisse was amazing! I had read they had a good bouillabaisse and I'm glad I went to try it.

Phenomenal service. An area frequented by locals (skewed elderly) which is always a good sign. Wait staff split one our hangar steak frites onto two plates for us, with more than enough fries for each. Consistently checked in with us and showed genuine interest in our dining experience. Steak was good but wasn't a huge fan of the texture (perhaps I am simply not the biggest fan of hangar steak) -- felt like it was too floppy. The complimentary bread was terrific. Rustic and artisan. Prices are a little steep (though it is French fare, after all) but still would return to try some of their other items.

Unfortunately this place was really rather forgettable for me. I came here for dinner and was happy to be seated immediately. They have both indoor and outdoor spaces - unfortunately outdoor is on the pavement and the claxophony of cars doesn't help with the experience. Notwithstanding we tried the crab cake and the bouillabaisse. The crab cake was good and it was only crab meat with no fillers. Unfortunately a very forgettable meal for me. I came here for dinner. We were seated outdoors immediately. They have some indoor seating - about 8 tables mostly for couples. Outside they have about 5 tables in the summer. The service was relatively slow and since the menu didn't have too many options I was hoping all the food that they did they would do well. From menu to leaving we ordered about 3 dishes and it took 2.5 hours. At best the food was fresh but it wasn't either tasty or memorable. It didn't have either flavor complexity or interest in terms of ingredient combination. I would probably come here for a basic meal but at the prices I expected something a little more upscale I suppose. We tried the heirloom tomato salad, the crab cake and the ravioli. I would pass on this place for dinner - might be a better lunch option to be fair

I have had this place bookmarked for a long time. Was pleased to be sitting inside on a hot summer weekend night. The decor is dimly li and cottage like. Wine: Crémant d'Alsace, rosé. Medium body, very refreshing. Apps: I had the escargots which arrived in a wonderful sauce made of butter, herbs and garlic. As an entree, I had the braised beef cheeks with a side of asparagus, carrots and potato au gratin. I really loved the freshness of the veggies. I requested more which my waiter effortless granted. I left very happy. Had a wonderful solo dinner here.

What an ambiance. Transport yourself to the densely wooded French countryside with an intimate trip to Le Gigot. It didn't hurt that it was raining outside the beautifully decorated little restaurant either. The food was fantastic. The bouillabaisse was rich and smoky. Perfect for soaking up their unreal bread. The chicken was also perfect. It tasted like a Christmas gathering with all your favorite warm spices. The veggies and potatoes were delicately flavored to offset the richness of the chicken.

Been coming here regularly when in the city. So glad to see things somewhat back to normal. We were a party of 4 with outdoor seating. Although there were heat lamps available it was still warm and pleasant out. Aside from the regular items on the menu there were a few daily specials: arctic char, rack of lamp, soft shell crab. Our party had bottle of the cremant, a few appetizers, seafood bouillabaisse, soft shell crab; hanger steak and lamb perfectly cooked med rare. Staff was fabulous. Attentive to our need for water and bread. The guys that helped out on our Saturday night were the best and all pros.

Outstanding food and service. We ordered the escargot, crab tagliatelle, and beef bourguignon, which were all excellent. The crab tagliatelle came with a generous portion of lump crab and had the perfect texture. Service was impeccable as the wait staff was highly informative and responsive. It's a small bistro with a very cozy ambiance that makes you forget you're in NYC.

Wonderful French food in an intimate hole-in-the-wall. We started off with a number of apps- a salad with great dressing, delicious oysters that weren't too fishy, and escargot that were verrry garlicky. Their house bread is clearly freshly toasted and it was those small details that added up to my great experience. We got a number of entrees to share- the steak was perfect at medium rare with a DELICIOUS blue cheese sauce and the fries were crispy but not greasy. The seafood risotto was amazingly cheesy and they didn't skimp on the seafood. The salmon was also very good, although the vegetables were a little softer than I liked. The bouillabaisse came with more toasted bread and some cheese to melt. Service was great- I don't think our wine or water glasses ever emptied. The cherry on top was their port- such a nice treat at the end of the night! I would definitely come back on a date for their seafood dishes especially!

Had a variety of dishes, pate, escargot, beef Bourguignon, Bouillabaisse. Everything was Pretty tasty. The appetizers were pretty solid. The soup was a special and was the best thing on the menu. Our entrees were solid choices, the seafood was great and the beef was good as well. Nothing was mind blowing but everything was a good choice. I'd ask for the soft starter bread with the seafood next time since it came with some crunchy breads. The dessert was also good. The wine was great

I had a 7pm reservation, but was running late, and they were flexible and told me to come any time. Upon my arrival, I was seated by the piano. The pianist playing that night, Andrew Abrahamsen, was very talented. He played an eclectic mix of songs, including "I Will Survive," Disney's "When You Wish Upon a Star," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." As the night went on, he played Happy Birthday for me, and went on a 90s Disney Renaissance spree, playing songs including "Go the Distance" from Hercules, "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame, "Beauty and the Beast," and "You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story. Ordered black tiger shrimp for my entree. It smelled wonderful, and especially peppery once the waiter added pepper to it. The risotto the shrimp sat on was also very delicious. I ended up taking this to go, and it still tasted great later on! For dessert, I chose the lemon tart brûlée with raspberry sorbet. It came with "Happy Birthday" written on the plate with chocolate, and a candle on the sorbet. As always, the ambiance and decor is very beautiful, with portraits of Josephine Baker to honor the revolutionary badass woman. Thanks for the great birthday dinner, Chez Josephine!

I made a reservation to be safe, as many restaurants now ask if you did so. This place is quite packed every night so it was the way to go. I came here for dinner post showtime and my son and I over ordered but happily enjoyed everything. I think our eyes are way bigger than our stomachs. Starters: - French onion soup, au gratin, was perfect. Great onion profile and lots of it. Not overly salty so that was good. - Beef tartare, classic French bistro staple, must order this. The portion was quite generous and it was delicious. We couldn't stop eating it. The petite toasts were a nice accompaniment as well as the raddiccio salad - cheese board, IYKYK, I never met a cheese I didn't like. This board was matched with nice pairings. Think grapes, fig jam, and marcona almonds. The cheese were a classic French variety - bleu, comte and brie. For our entrees, my son opted for a sandwich and I got the steak. His croque Madame was really delicious. The bread, the ham, the baked cheese and the fried egg was so savory. Yummy. My steak was a sizeable portion but I purposely ordered the bigger ounces since I know we'd share. Fries are nice and skinny, perfectly seasoned. Our waiter was attentive and I asked for the table next to us given all the food I know we were getting. He was not sure if he could accommodate but I insisted he check with management. They came over and put it together for me. I appreciated that given a table for two, for how much we ordered, it'd never fit. Totally would return. If you like French food, this is a solid spot to try.

Then came desserts and I had the crème brûlée, my aunt and mom shared the chocolate mousse, and my brother, his girlfriend and my father all had the chocolate lava cake. This visit was a frustrating exception. The app activated the swipe button shortly after 5PM -- which Maman and several other stores have recently started allowing as an early pickup signal. I went to the store accordingly. The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.
