This is a very good 4 star review. Yves is in a wonderful location in Tribeca, near the Hudson, on the corner of the block with ample outdoor and indoor seating. There's a bar, the drinks are good and the crowd is after work happy hours and dates. It's a French bistro that feels like at times is trying to be more but also stretching to be just that. For example the food and drinks are good, not stellar and the service is ok at best. The prices are reasonable but the portions are smaller, so without the exceptional service or outstanding presentation or new takes on classics it falls just the smallest bit flat. We found this French/Moroccan spot, loved the menu online, and decided to go for brunch. Honestly, it was a pretty good meal, but it was an interesting experience. We got the Boursin, chocolate chip pancakes, shakshuka, and fries. Fries were super good and I loved the mayo aioli they came with. Shakshuka eggs were amazingggg and the pita bread it was paired with was perfection. Pancakes were super light and fluffy, and the ice cream atop them was creamy and delicious. Personally, I wasn't the fan of the Boursin -- I thought it would have the sweetness of cheese, but found it to be overwhelmingly bitter and sour. My friend, however, really enjoyed it, so clearly it just wasn't for me. Service was interesting -- we didn't immediately get the menus as soon as we were seated, and we were sort of rushed out/got subtle hints to leave less than an hour after sitting even though the restaurant was pretty empty. I cannot even say how great this place was for dinner. I came here with three other friends to celebrate a birthday. From the moment I walked in the bartender and everyone else couldn't have been friendlier. We shared the shrimp and goat cheese apps (2 separate apps); both delicious. They were also very generous with additional bread as we wanted. We then shared the steak, pasta, and mussel entrees. All just fantastic. I liked Yves a lot - it reminds me of a slightly more grown-up (and hometown) version of Maison Kayser. I came here for brunch so I can't speak to the dinner but the food was pretty tremendous. Let's just say if you can't get a table at Locanda Verde, Yves is by no means a consolation prize. Y'all know how much I can never pass up granola on a brunch menu. The version at Yves' was something I'll definitely try to replicate in my own kitchen with the addition of one unique ingredient, rhubarb! It lent a sweetness that went really well with the strawberry and honey. My group's dishes were all delicious too, I tried each one and I couldn't pick a favorite. You can't go wrong. The seasonal quiche with gruyere probably stood out the most: know that for $17, you are getting your money's worth with an enormous slice and a perfect, flaky bottom. I found out about this restaurant because it's on Seated, but from the start I wasn't too impressed with their menu since it's a bit limited. I came around 7:15 on a Friday night, and the restaurant was packed. Yves is a nice spot for drinks with ample sidewalk seating, including some of your more desirable side street seating options. If you hop off the Hudson River Park after a stroll on a particularly humid day, as I did, it's as nice a place as any for a quality glass of wine or a solid cocktail. I had a mezcal cocktail with some nice spicy bitters added that was well done, and a nice glass of Lambrusco. Our brunch experience was a bit disappointing food-wise, on the other hand. I had the Yves breakfast--scrambled eggs were ok if a bit mushy, but it's been a long time since I've had such weird, disappointing bacon. Thin and overly cooked to the point of being flavorless, it looked and tasted as if someone took some vegan bacon or an old package of Sizzlean and just dropped an iron on top of it for WAY too long. The country toast that came with it was quite good, at least, but you really don't want your toast to be the highlight of your brunch. My friend got the salad with grilled chicken, which was deemed "fine." I say this all noting that I'm trying to grade gently these days and not complain as much as I perhaps normally would... The food really missed a lot of flavor. I am Gf and the fries are dipped in flour so couldn't eat those. Almost nothing was Gf, very little and what was was BLAND AF. We also were the only ones at the restaurant when we came in and they sat us right next to the door letting in cold air. The door kept opening and letting in cold air and when people came in to the restaurant they left door open. We had to call the waiters over multiple times to close it so we wouldn't freeze. You shouldn't be wearing your winter coat at a restaurant but at this table everyone did. My mom got the chicken dish which was pretty but had no flavor just tasted like a rotisserie chicken from Costco that's it for that price point. Super disappointing! I had the steak and asked instead of fries can i have vegetables. My steak came out with so much fat on it, and the place is dark so i had to get my flashlight out to make sure i wasn't eating the fat. Bottom line: Yves is a 4.5 star Tribeca dining experience. Very intimate space, good service, excellent menu to choose from and the food itself delicious. Not the cheapest destination to eat but I say they are worth it for the most part. I am a fan! The Deets: Yves is a very inviting and intriguing place in the Tribeca area that a good friend frequents before heading home after his work day is done...we decided to try it out and see what it is all about. It is a pretty small venue, a bit dark but I like the bistro like feel. I can't decide if I would call the menu American influenced French or American/French hybrid, or many other derivatives but what they have done is put together a very nice selection of offerings on their menu. We sat at the bar, and our bartender/server was excellent...great customer service. For our visit, we started with the Fried Pork Rillettes served with mustard and pickles. The pork is cubed/chopped and fried up/breaded, with the middle winding up a bit like a pâté after it's all done. These lil nuggets were delicious, loved it...do know that the order was only two pieces so we got one each, and it was great. My next course I ordered Braised Chicken Meatballs ("Coq au Vin" red wine, parsnip, mirepoix per menu) and I liked these, but did not expect the bit of spice that were contained within. I'm not one to enjoy spicy, but this hint was not overwhelming and I could make it through OK because the taste in general was good. My main/last course I selected the Veal Schnitzel (with sauce vert, bitter greens, lemon, poached egg per menu). This schnitzel is some of the best I have had other than in Bavaria itself, very seriously. I was so full after all I had but I enjoyed the meal thoroughly. All combined with a wonderful prosecco by the glass, I had a great experience here at Yves and would gladly come here again. I'd put them around 4.5 stars (they are a bit expensive, do note the prices but most items are worth it) and I am looking forward to seeing them again in the future. read more

The meat, moist and perfectly cooked, was bland and tasteless. The bread they brought (part of the chicken dish) was rock hard, clearly old. The butter also brought on the board was FULLY melted to the point we actually thought it was a sauce... our friends ordered the steak frites, the waiter told us they were out of fries and that they would serve chips and firstly refused to serve some fingerling potatoes (that are part of the chicken roast dish). CHIPS. With a 50$ steak? After some negotiation they agreed to give the potatoes. You can always count on Tribeca restaurants to deplete your wallet at the end of a long night. But most of the time they're worth it. Yves is one of them. Call me basic, but I ordered THE Spaghetti. Yup, I paid $22 for roasted cherry tomatoes, toasted garlic, basil, olive oil, and parmesan...a meal that I could have easily had at home. BUT. Do not be fooled. I don't know what their secret is, but this spaghetti was somehow just SO good. It was not too creamy nor too salty, which made it easy to stomach with a sugar-heavy drink on the side. My bf also really liked his Moules Frites (fancy name for mussels & fries), so I am inclined to say that this place is worth depleting your wallet. We're coming back for the steak frites next time.
