This place had all the vibes of a French bistro with bistro fare (escargot, onion soup, oysters, salade nicoise, croque monsieur) and atmosphere. And with a Morroccan twist (chicken tagine, moutabel, bisteeya). The service was fine and professional, though we didn't encounter any obvious Francophones on the staff. Our food was good. The croque monsieur was little undergrilled (and not typical French crispy), but very good. The tuna salad sandwich was quite good -- often people put way too much mayonaise on them -- but alas had one taste in it I didn't love (was it pickle?) We started with the Moroccan meatballs, which were solid, but the real star was the toasted pita that came with the meatballs LOL. Truly delicious. For my entrée, I had the Tuna Niçoise Salad, which unfortunately I couldn't eat. It was overwhelmingly fishy, and the sardines pushed it over the edge, disappointing, especially for the price. My friend had the coq au vin and said it was good. Two others ordered the grilled chicken pita wraps & seemed to enjoy them, though I didn't try them myself. As for drinks, two of us sent back flat Diet Cokes, and the Shirley Temples were barely flavored with grenadine. Upset about how I was spoken to by a tall , rude man in a black baseball hat seating people yesterday on 07/27/25. The 2 of us walked in a little after 5 PM to get something to eat. The menu looked good, there was just two of us, the restaurant was mostly empty. The man that came to seat us came over and said "dinner or drinks?" And I said "just food today" and he goes "so dinner" in a nasty way. I'm like yeah I guess? It's 5pm. I don't care what you call it, but he had attitude immediately for no reason. As there were 2 of us, he sat us at a crammed two top in the darker part of the restaurant right next to other people, but because the restaurant was essentially empty, except for maybe two tables being taken up. I asked if we could sit on the farther end of the restaurant where there was a bit of sunlight and some larger tables. The same man immediately responded with that the corner tables were all reserved. And then he said, but any other table that you want is fine. So I chose a table and he said " but only if you are going to actually get dinner. Some people just get fries and take up a 4 -top." - unacceptable to me. I just want to say that I have worked as a hostess in large restaurants before and I understand how seating works - it was early and empty. I've never spoken people like that and I haven't been spoken to like that elsewhere. You don't get to demand we order a certain amount to have a seat - I didn't see that disclaimer anywhere. This particular person had no warmth, did not seem to want to be there, was rude to us and I'm not sure if he thought we were tourists because I had one shopping bag but I've lived in New York for over 15 years. Not to mention that, even if I'm a tourist, what a way to welcome people! I think it just comes down to that he's an unhappy guy. I don't really care if it's the West village, I don't care if you think you have a special place where you want to treat people as if they're not worthy, but it just made me feel not welcome, uncomfortable, disrespected. I didn't like his attitude and when you're going to put money down -- we spent $100 between the two of us -- you should be treated much better than that. Aside from that, the guy that kept filling our water was essentially very sweet and hard-working. The restaurant needs work , it's quite expensive but normal for the area, everything is worn down to some degree, that would be fine and add a little bit of charm, but then don't act like you're holding. The door is open to the Plaza. Someone should talk to that guy or get him out of the place in general. I was upset enough by him to write this obviously ! read more

This is not a dive bar, & it's not an old Irish pub. It's beautiful inside, & very clean, & has very attentive service. This place is not cheap. As a customer, you're subsidizing their sky high west village rent. The portions are on the small side, & everything is a la carte ie: even more expensive. This establishment is the place to patronize if you like being transported to a bistro in Europe. I visited with a friend for an early supper on Saturday and was very delighted with my experience. The ambiance was completely fabulous with dim lighting and tea lights everywhere. The restaurant was a nice size which still offered some areas of seclusion. We initially sat in the bar area at a table by the patio doors. After a while we felt a draft and asked if we could move to the bar. Our server/bartender, Yves, was very accommodating and even assisted us in doing so. We started with drinks. We then ordered oysters on the half shell, the mushroom pate and French onion soup. The food was delicious and the soup was a cheese lover's dream! It was served with a thick layer of melted deliciousness on top a hot broth. Yves was very accommodating and friendly. He made sure to check on us constantly and alerted us when his shift was over. Very professional in my opinion. We opted not to have dessert but it was definitely offered. The bathroom really reminded me of Europe, petite, clean and functional. It had the tiniest sink I have ever seen and it was adorable. All the staff was super professional which made for a stress free dining experience. The pricing is definitely reasonable and service A+. Ended up at this French Moroccan bistro on our latest round of restaurant roulette this past Saturday night! We started on 8th and Broadway and, after many convoluted rolls of the dice and direction changes, we landed at Bar Six. The small outdoor seating area was crowded and we wrongly assumed we might face a wait or even have trouble getting in altogether, but the inside is actually quite spacious and there were many tables available when we arrived, which was around 7 pm. The ambience here is giving very, like... Edwardian era French bistro? I don't know if that's historically accurate, but it gives those vibes. The service was great. We ordered: -Caesar salad: light, fresh, and refreshing, with just the right amount of dressing and cheese. -Chicken tagine: If tagine is on a menu anywhere, I'm typically getting it. And so I did here. While this wasn't the absolute best version I've ever had, it's a really solid one. Once the dome cover is lifted, you're immediately greeted with the most beautiful scents- savory spices, cinnamon, raisin. The chicken is so tender, and the almonds, carrots, and raisins add a nice depth of flavor. Wild mushroom risotto (shiitake, portobello, cremini & parmesan): a very good hearty risotto. Savory and cheesy, but not too heavy. We also enjoyed a lovely Sancerre (Steve Millet Initiales 2022), which had expressive notes of citrus, minerals, rose, and saline. read more

The food is a bit hit or miss. We loved the moroccan meatballs, that appetizer is almost a full entree. We loved the provincial fries. My partner liked the Bisteeya. I did not enjoy the Chicken Tagine. Maybe I was eating it wrong? It comes with this sauce that is slightly spicy. Without the sauce, the chicken, cous cous and vegetables were stupendously BLAND. Like, almost no salt added. When mixed with the sauce, it was better but I still needed to add salt. I also couldn't do spicy at that time of night and there was no warning of that on the menu. The restaurant itself is very nice with the dim light and seating arrangements but it is so loud. I felt like I was shouting the whole time. The service was average. We got what we needed but no one was especially above and beyond. Overall a decent restaurant. Not sure if I would personally go back. Ironically finding someone to take our order took some doing. After reading some other reviews, I see a number of people commented on the host's unwelcoming demeanor - I would agree with that assessment. My review was influenced by my lovely company and large glass of wine which tends to make me more jovial. All this said, given the zeitgeist now, Bar Six felt like a haven for an hour and maybe even brought me back to my life in Paris many years ago. I don't think I'd ever been to Bar Six despite dining on 6th Avenue a lot. One of my friends likes the place (for lunch). A group of us met for dinner. We sat in the back, which was festively decorated for the holidays. It was also separated well from the more crowded bar area. Although we were sitting not too far from the bar, it wasn't noisy where we were. The service was great and very attentive. We convinced one friend to share the zucchini chips because I'd just had really good ones last week at a different restaurant. These were flash fried, but the batter wasn't thick enough and didn't really taste like anything. My friends really enjoyed their entrees. One had the risotto, another a cheeseburger and one was happy to find a good Caesar salad and plentiful fries. I was disappointed in the Coq Au Vin. It looked good and hearty, but lacked flavor. I repeated sprinkled pepper and a bit of salt but it didn't really do much. I also thought the flourless chocolate cake was dry and could have used some berries or other accompaniment besides whipped cream. Stepped in at 11:40 PM to what felt like a warm embrace. Took a seat at the bar and decided to go with the bartender's recommendation - the French onion soup. It had been ages since I'd had it, and let me tell you, I had forgotten just how incredibly amazing it can be. This bowl of goodness was nothing short of BOMB! The cheese had this perfect melt, and it formed a crust down the side of the bowl that was irresistible. I came to Bar Six with two friends on a Friday night. This is my second time coming here and still would recommend! We had a reservation but honestly the place wasn't too full at 6PM and we could have probably walked in. Super cute seating area indoors that gives very romantic, French cafe-ish vibes-- quiet and relaxed without being too fancy or elegant. They have a super cute outdoor space to sit in as well. Perfect place to catch up with friends or go on a nice lunch/dinner date. Service was great! Our waitress was very attentive of our table the whole time and the food was as brought to us within 10-15 min. We ordered: Zucchini chips: split for the table! Portion size was a bit small if you are with a group that's very hungry (thankfully that wasn't the case for us and we had enough.) The chips themselves were very flavorful and have the right amount of salt. Mostly all of them had a good crisp to them, a few were a bit soft but zucchini is hard to prepare in fried chip form. The yogurt dip which they come with was very good! It had a little spicy and tangy kick which complemented the chips well. French onion soup: my two friends got this! They both really liked it and said it was very hearty and filling. Comes with a lot of cheese, and bread inside. Will have to try next time. Baby kale salad with shrimp: I wanted something lighter and this was truly perfect! Super fresh and generous portion. Comes with this creamy ricotta cheese that balances out the bright sweetness of the roasted beets as well as the citrus dressing. It has little bits of quinoa and toasted almonds that add nice texture. The shrimp was kinda salty and I think the whole salad only came with like 5 pieces so next time I would probably skip adding shrimp as a protein. But the salad itself was very good! Overall had a good experience here and would recommend this place if you are in the area. It has a very cute ambiance, delicious food, and good service in a super convenient location. There was seating outside, but it was a hot, muggy and LOUD day, so we opted for indoor and were so happy we did! The indoor space is roomy and comfortable. There are also no step ups or downs, so it was easy to roll right up to the table with a walker. My friend also chose to use her walker seat at the table and the staff was really easy about that as well. We ordered froses to start ( my first), then followed up with a zucchini chip app for the table (great choice). Spacious, yet intimate, it had a great ambience to dine and observe. Our waitress was kind and enigmatic.
