The food was great, but the ambiance and overall saltiness are the reasons this place isn't getting five stars from me. We ordered the sea scallop risotto, coq au vin blanc, and flat iron steak, all flavorful and well-prepared. Even though we had a reservation, the wait was quite long. To their credit, the restaurant offered a complimentary appetizer, the crispy artichokes, which turned out to be a highlight. It was my first time trying artichokes, and they were delicious! The sauce it came with made them even better. One complaint was that our table was right next to the stairs and really close to the walkway, so I kept getting bumped by the servers and people passing by. It also felt way too crowded around the bar, which made the space a little uncomfortable. It was extremely dark and was lit by a tea candle. The coq au vin blanc was pretty salty, and so was the sea scallop risotto. Also one of the scallops was just the top of one which was disappointing. The only good thing was a manager named Kayla. The rest was very disappointing. We sat down no one took our order. Although she waited on the tables to each side. Finally the mgr approached us after me wife tracked her down and assisted us. The service kid never came by and the waitress still didn't come. Mgr sent us a complimentary artichoke which i thought was ok my wife wasn't a fan. We left the place and the mgr did speak with my wife and honestly she was the only bright spot. I've been looking for some new places to eat in west village, and stumbled upon Bobo. It's in a west village brownstone, and it's got a really cool vibe. You enter from the garden level which has so much energy, and then were taken upstairs past the dining room and back into the outdoor space, which was beautiful. I believe they also have the ability to open up the ceiling on nice days. For appetizers we went with the crispy artichokes and the moules. For the entrees we had the flat iron steak and the tagliatelle, both were amazing! Our server, Jaro, was great, he really made sure that we enjoyed every aspect of our meal. When he checked in on us, it didn't feel like it was just performative, he really did care about making sure the food came out just as we wanted, so big shout out to Jaro! I love coming to restaurants with great service, and it always feels good to support businesses that care about their customers! Will definitely be back. read more

I stopped by bobo in the west village to try their $45 restaurant week menu. The ambiance inside is intimate and dimly lit with small candles on every table which was perfect for a date night. For food, we tried the kale salad, tagliatelle bolognese, Parisian gnocchi, chocolate mousse and the rice pudding. The kale salad was well done as the kale was soft with a slightly sweet dressing and some roasted veggies paired nicely in it. The gnocchi was good but I felt they were a tiny bit overdone as it was dry without a sauce. For desserts, the rice pudding was the better of the two. The praline crunch and fruit added some great flavor and texture. Overall pretty solid spot for restaurant week at $45. read more

Came here for brunch and it was pretty good. Tried their coffee and I got the burger. The burger was a bit over done but it was still good! Very cute in there. It transported you into a European setting. It is a French restraunt so that is probably why but the decor was fantastic. I thought about trying the mimosas but opted against it, next time I would definitely try them. Our server was great and constantly checked on us to make sure we didnt need anything. Our server was so friendly -- they overheard us talking about our friend's engagement and brought us some champagne on the house to celebrate! Attended an event here and had the most wonderful time. Staff were really kind and attentive, the ambiance at the restaurant was unmatched, and all the food was incredible!! Everything from the gnocchi to the fries to the chicken were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly executed. Not sure why there's so many bad reviews. Had a decent meal here. The restaurant is in a town house and is very charming. We sat upstairs on the upper patio. The restaurant is not ADA accessible - down stairs required for entry and then staircases throughout the house. The bathrooms are tiny but gorgeously decorated! Our server was polite but not overly friendly, which is not a negative exactly. We had a spritz, spring pea appetizers and some pasta dishes. Food came out quick and service was attentive. I imagine the atmosphere of Bobo's to be similar to that of a townhouse in a local province in France. There's no rush to kick you out mid conversation. No uppity waitstaff. Natural light streams in through the windows to illuminate the aperol spritz you're sipping on while listening to your friend rant about some irreverent topic. Just a cozy place serving up good food. Definitely get the crispy artichokes and scoop up all that béarnaise sauce. Share a bowl of french onion soup. Maybe skip the brioche (average tasting filler food) and opt for the salmon benedict. We chose this restaurant for Valentine's Day expecting a romantic, intimate atmosphere, especially given the reputation and quality of the food - which, to be fair, was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, the ambiance completely missed the mark. About 10 minutes into our dinner, a group of five girls was seated next to us and proceeded to scream at full volume for the rest of the evening, as if they were at a bottomless brunch rather than a nice dinner service. They were so loud that we could barely hear each other speak, and it completely took away from what was supposed to be a special night. I understand that guests' behavior isn't entirely within the restaurant's control, but what was disappointing was the complete lack of intervention from management. It was obvious this was disruptive - every table around us was staring, clearly uncomfortable. On a night like Valentine's Day, when so many couples are there specifically for a romantic experience, I would have expected staff to step in and politely address the situation. We recently got engaged and chose this restaurant to celebrate what should have been a memorable evening. While the food delivered, the atmosphere did not. Had a three-course dinner here for a company team event, so the menu may differ slightly from the regular offering. Appetizer salad (2/7) We had a choice between croquettes and an endive salad -- I went with the salad but found myself wishing I'd picked the croquettes instead. The endives were crisp (likely ice-bathed?), which I appreciated, but the dish lacked balance. Would have liked some cheese and sweetness from fruits to offset the bitterness of the endives. As a side, it would've worked fine, but as a standalone appetizer, it felt a bit one-note. Steak (5/7) The steak was cooked perfectly -- tender, evenly cooked, and clearly a good cut of meat. That said, I would've preferred a touch more seasoning and a bit of char on the crust. It tasted like it was pan-seared rather than grilled, which made it milder than I'd hoped. Still enjoyable, but in this price range, I've had more better steaks elsewhere in the city. Dessert (6/7) The lemon tart was lovely -- bright, citrusy, and not overly sweet. But have to warn the crust is dense!! You'll need some effort (and a little table clanking) to break into it. Not exactly ideal when you're mid-convo with your director over a work dinner . I came here for happy hour with friends and ordered the malbec with the Seared Tuna Nicoise. The malbec was only $8 and tasted very good! It paired well with the tuna, which was more on the light side with romaine lettuce and dressing. Bobo is such a cute brunch spot. It's located inside a townhouse with a beautiful dining room, outdoor terrace and a dimly lit den below street level. The den may be nice for dinner or even by the windows, but we were seated in the back away from the sunlight on a gorgeous day out. Front/desk hosts were unfriendly and unhelpful. Came to check in only to watch 5-6 reservations that came after me get seated first bc my table "wasn't ready". When I brought this up I was met with annoyance and finally one of the host said to go ahead and seat me. It's funny how uppity and unfriendly the service was especially considering the atmosphere, food quality and speed. It took an hour for food to arrive and everything was pretty subpar. I got branzino and it was dry with a weird flavor. The fries tasted old. Will never come back. Came for brunch and this is suchhhh a cute restaurant! It's very spacious with many different areas but we were able to be in the "outside" area with the clear roof which was a nice environment. Boozy brunch was good although shorter than other bottomless options at only 60 minutes, however our server was great in making sure we kept getting drinks. Potatoes were probably the best part of the meal, eggs Benedict were fine but my friend had the oeufs meurette en cocotte and it was really not that great. The upstairs dining room is lovely but it got extremely loud as the evening rolled on. We enjoyed the generous happy hour by having rose and oysters before our meal. The Branzino was good but a little small so I needed the frites to help. The flat iron steak looked good though the pomme pave wasn't cooked all the way through. They even gave us complimentary bubbles because we had made our original reservation at their sister restaurant Claudette which they could not honor because of equipment issues. Amazing experience here with my friend on a Saturday night with a 5pm reservation. It was one of the very few reservations left and while 5pm was a bit early, we decided to go with it. No regrets whatsoever because upon arriving, immediately it has a unique exterior and European cozy vibe. Once inside, the first floor wasn't too comfortable but thankfully we were ushered upstairs for our seat. The restaurant doesn't seem to be able to accommodate those who cannot walk up the stairs - I saw an older man with a curved back struggling to get upstairs but he made it! The hostess was helping him every step of the way. If they made the trek up here then it must be really good here. I started off with a drink from their non happy hour menu and my friend got the margarita from the HH menu. It was beautifully presented to us. We then ordered a few dishes to share and entrees for ourselves. We had the Brussel sprouts, the truffle croquettes, and I ordered the lemon risotto while my friend had the pepper crusted tuna. The truffle croquettes were recommended by the server and I wasn't going to get it but my friend wanted it so we got it and it was the best decision. It was SO GOOD! I wish we had more to go around! It didn't feel too heavy, but it was packed with flavor and perfectly sized. The brussel sprouts were nicely seasoned and cooked. we are off to a great start. Then came my entree and it was also perfectly seasoned. The risotto was a bit crunchy at times, totally not used to that but it wasn't the biggest deal. The lemon wasn't overpowering and worked well with the dish. My friend also enjoyed her tuna. We then ordered the molten chocolate cake and you can't go wrong with this ever! Everything was good. I am mixed on Bobo. 3.5 stars if I could. 4 for food. 2 for service. 1 for ambiance. The food is excellent. Even the least good entree (the branzino which was dry but flavorful) was good. The salade Niçoise, duck confit, and gnocchi were all very good. The Niçoise was beautifully and composed with buttery near raw tuna, perfectly cooked potato, crispy green beans, and lovely lettuce in a delicious though excessive salad dressing. The winner of the night were the amazing earthy (yes, earthy) flavored scallops over risotto. Wow. We were a party of 6 and shared the mussels as an appetizer-- I eat mussels a lot and these may've been the best I've ever had. The beet chips and fries were also excellent. The kale salad was good but too busy. The bread -- they charge you for it. And the portion is ungenerous so for the 6 of us we needed 3 portions. We didn't want to miss out on the sauces, all yummy. But we shouldn't be spending almost $25 on bread. The desserts were truly disappointing. A weak spot on the menu. But -- the real challenge is that the place is almost intolerably noisy. We were sandwiched between two larger tables that had a youthful self-involvement to the presence of others in the world. My husband and I were out w our two children and two of their friends, all in their 20s. They too were turned off by the noise. We quite literally could not hear each other. Fortunately the kitchen was slow and by the time our entrees were served (almost an hour later) those tables had left. Nonetheless, the acoustics are such that this may be the noisiest bistro in Manhattan. Back to ungenerous. When we arrived my husband asked if we might be able to sit elsewhere. The hostess declined. Okay; I do get it. They were booked. She was pretty. But ungracious about it . Moreover, she should've made a point of returning to check on us. That would've gone a long way. In a similar vein, the servers were affectless and robotic. Maybe they don't like their job? Or, like the bread and the hostess, maybe being unwelcoming is a management decision. When I made the reservation the woman on the phone was lovely and warm; she asked me if we were celebrating a special occasion. When I said yes and told her what (the completion of a PhD) she noted it. It wasn't noted by our waiter or the hostess. Why ask then? Lastly, our waitperson was nice, but unprofessional: he referred to an ingredient as having "a cheese I can't pronounce." Wait, what? Maybe learn? Everything we had here was delicious! The upstairs dining area is very cute, really feels like you're dining in someone's home. The artichokes and gnocchi to start were both very flavorful and unique. I got the branzino and my boyfriend got the filet au poivre. The lentils that came with the branzino were very flavorful and my boyfriend enjoyed the sauce with his steak. For drinks we got the Bougie and Avec Du Miel cocktails.
