Le Bistroquet is the new BXL.
Over the years, I've been a pretty frequent, but also less so frequent customer - truly dependent upon the venue and staff (food/kitchen only thing that remain 10/10 all these years).
Change is good and bad.
Review is for now (Feb 2026) as after 5+ visits since the switch, I am compelled to let ownership / other patrons know.
Things we like: the new booths, the clean bathrooms, the new ceiling. Food quality has improved (always a solid 8.5/10). (Smaller butterballs better than big!). Adding Coronas to the menus cool, but what's the point if it's priced the same as everything else? (Not having even one 'familiar' domestic or imported bottle price at a lower price point than your 'premium' tap, discourages you from wanting to drink the extra one or two that you may have gotten or stayed longer for).
Things we don't like: the children in the restaurant at a table, accompanied, is one thing, but behind the bar is weird. Slightly misbehaved as all kids are, but get the nanny or the iPad - don't let it affect the customer. (Not once, but two different visits!). Family business vibes but this isn't the local dive.
Things we miss: Erik's playlist (the old bartender). A tip of the hat to him. Not that the music was particularly off putting - just noting that his absence, even music was notably missed.
TLDR: We continue to frequent, although a bit pricey. Food is memorable, ambiance (including lighting), although well intended, always leaves a bit to be desired. If there's a happy hour, let the people know!
Solid choice in Flatiron - it's there a long time, worth it for a nice Belgian (although do they speak French?!) experience!
