I used to go here whenever I was in the area. But sadly--the quality of the food has gone DOWNHILL. It's just not good? Ordered their duck noodle. Two of the duck pieces were decent. The amount of noodles....was paltry. Their chili sate sauce--was gross--pasty/dry-texture of dried tamarind? The beef stew with mushrooms--what kind of mystery meat was that? Not much flavor but I tried to make the most of it by dipping some of the warm bread in it. As for the meat---it's Not stewed meat ...I think they're leftover cuts---to be discarded. Hands down the best fruit tart cake! I remember going her 20 years ago. I picked up a full sheet cake for my mom's 80th for 50 people and the cake was a hit. The fruit were all fresh and the pastry was crunch and flaky. They even offer to have the cake precut but you can't tell it's precut. It was perfect and yummy. read more

I might have recommended this place had they been open during open hours. Unfortunately I work until 5:30 but wanted to order a fruit tart from there. I left work early specifically to rush over to order the tart. I got there 15 minutes before closing and the doors were already locked. This is a hidden gem. I'm not sure why it got poor reviews. Maybe they're not ordering the right dishes. Maybe it appeared a little run down and not very hip? Luckily they had branched into a real restaurant w extensive menu such as Beef curry that NOBODY EVER HAD THIS, their Bo Kho was amazing too, ramen, udon, etc.. but this menu is only offered till 2pm w the exception of beef curry and Bo kho, offered till closing time. We had the beef curry w baguette for the 1st time today and we loved it so much, it was a big order, enough for both of us, the beef was so so tender, I never tried this before bc I was afraid it would be chewy. I used to order birthday cakes and Christmas logs here but the past few years w a loss of customers, the cakes may not look as fresh. This is a nit about the experience at Le Croissant Dore. When I go to a restaurant and order, I don't expect to be charged for filtered tap water. If the restaurant is going to charge, they better tell me first. To find out at the end of my meal that I'm being charged $1.50 for a glass of tap water, filtered or unfiltered, I just feel that's bad customer service. This is one of my go-to places for Vietnamese comfort food! My go-to is the beef stew, or bo kho. The meat is super tender and it's served alongside freshly baked French bread that you can use to soak up all the delicious soup. Squeeze some lime into the salt + pepper mix, dip your meat in there and enjoy! Another favorite is the croissant - it's HUGE and buttery and packed full of meat. They do run out though, so get there early if you want to try it! We usually ask them to cut it in half so we can share. We also enjoy their cafe sua da, it's definitely on the stronger side. Fool's gold, perhaps? Le Croissant Doré, which translates to The Golden Croissant, is a well-established business in the area. And by that, I mean it's old. It has reportedly been around since as far back as 1975, which would make it one of the older businesses of the most famous Little Saigon. While the ownership may have changed (per other reviewers), it probably counts for something that they're still up and running. I was actually alerted to them as a search result for pate chaud in the local area. Their version of pate chaud comes at a decent price, $2.50, but doesn't strike me as the most flavorful on either the first or second go-around. The shell isn't very buttery. The meat filling, though plentiful, is inconsistent in that it can be dry on some finished pieces. Overall, it's far from my favorite. Wasn't a huge fan of either the Bo Kho or Bo Nau Ruou ($11.95 each). They actually want you to add salt and pepper and lime, either as a dip or otherwise, which complicates the balance of flavor in each bite. Just cook it the right way the first time, please. The Bo Nau Ruou seems to have more tender beef, but its potatoes aren't consistent in texture. Both are served with an average-sized, average-tasting French bread roll. I'd probably give the edge to the Bo Nau Ruou if you want a braised beef stew from here, mainly because the Bo Kho has beef that is far too tough to chew. There are more appealing food options in the area, so I won't be back to Le Croissant Dore of my own volition. Make no mistake: it's no French bakery, just a small Vietnamese eatery with some pastries and some hot food items. Maybe I'll try another dish out if my family selects it. read more

It wasn't until later that they added the beef stew. I had the fruit tart cake for the first time this past weekend. I'm used to the Vans Bakery version. In comparison, this one has less pudding and less glaze over the fruit which means the puff pastry part doesn't get mushy. The puff pastry part is also more crunchy and sweet and Le Croissant Dore. So I guess it's a matter of preference. Do you prefer more crunch or more pudding? Honestly I was blown away by Le Croissant Dore's version. Fruit Tart Review - Over the past 20 years, Luh Kwah Saunt Door Ray has supplied countless fruit tarts for my family functions and holiday gatherings. Everyone loves how fresh and perfectly sweet the fruit and custard tastes. From the small round tarts to the large rectangular full size trays, I just order on the phone and they have the tarts ready within a couple of hours.
