Green bean Che, and other items
    Peggy W.

I always love supporting small businesses and family-owned shops, but I also have to be honest about my experience. I stopped in because it's located near a restaurant we frequently visit. The owner was very friendly and proudly shared their history, fan mail, and reputation, which made me excited to try the food. I ended up buying almost one of everything. Unfortunately, the pâté chaud was already sold out by noon, which was actually the item I was most interested in trying. As for the items I did try, the durian bánh pía was overly soft and mushy for my taste. The bánh tiêu was just average and didn't stand out. The chè desserts tasted homemade, which some people may appreciate, but I found them fairly basic and not particularly memorable. The bánh trung thu was decent, but not something I would go out of my way to purchase again. Perhaps these products are exceptional compared to what is available where the bakery originated, but being in Orange County, the competition is extremely strong and there are many outstanding Vietnamese bakeries and dessert shops. I genuinely wanted to like this place and support them, especially after spending quite a bit and trying a wide variety of items, but overall I left disappointed. I may return one day to try the pâté chaud, since that was unavailable during my visit, but based on what I sampled, I don't see myself becoming a regular customer.

Kim Ninh bakery. I believe it's pretty new. Located in same plaza as Mai Phung. They open at 9. But if you call. They might be there earlier. I got helped on a Tuesday at 840. Fresh banh tieu. Super good. Came out right out of the fryer Fried Banh Bao. I found the dough too thick for my but flavor was good Pate Chaud. So fresh can't eat it right away. Nice and buttery. One of the best I had. Fresh moon cakes offered here also. Overall great bakery. I will def be a regular

It was next door to a restaurant we were waiting to be seated at and was curious. The second you walk in you don't have time to even glance at their selection, the store owner will start bombarding you about the store history- they originally came from Texas and many many many customers love them.. They have an entire box of hand written letters mailed to them that keep right behind their counter. Kind of odd that every single person that written them a letter have the exact same hand writing (you can see it from the mailing address) on the envelopes. Dau Xanh Sau Rieng Teochew Moon Cake (durian)- very strong durian flavor. Pretty mushy, skin/pastry was pretty doughy.. a little sweet for my personal taste. Khoai Mo Teochew Moon Cake (purple yam) -personally first time having it and it was alright. Pretty sweet as well but not as sweet as the durian one. Skin/pastry was also pretty doughy..

Banh tieu + pate chaud review Cash/zelle only Even tho the card machine is right there Got these fresh out of the oven/fryer! I believe it was $7-$7.5 for 2 banh tieu and 3 pate chaud Pate chaud 2/5 The pastry kind of has an odd aftertaste. Not that fragrant. I don't like the pork meatball inside, the pate they use is slightly gamey. Banh tieu 2/5 They do give lots of sesame seeds, but thats the only thing I like. The donut has some chew, but it tastes different than banh mi so 1. Service Was fine

I Just tried thier Bean cookies. I have never heard of been cookies but seen them at the front counter and they looked good so o decided to try. Glad I did. They pair well with coffee and are not too sweet. They literally crumble in your mouth. So good.

Mr. Kim was very friendly, and his wife does an excellent job with those mooncakes. I had Vietnamese coffee which I cannot describe except to say it has power and sweetness in a natural way. Parking is easy because it is in a rectangle shaped plaza, not a ton of parking but we found parking. There is a couple of tables inside, the customers I saw took their food to go. Please listen to the song I am parodying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQPhLCkUugw While you are reading my song parody portion of my review below. Mom&Pop Vietnamese cafe and bakery where you can grab drinks, bakery goods, and desserts to-go. The owner was very friendly. I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, which was delicious, although there was too much ice and I finished it in two sips (refer picture). There are no tables or bathrooms available for patrons. Businesses nearby are under construction, so limited parking during peak hours. It seems like their known for their pastries, so I'll have to come back to give the pastries a try.

The baked goods selection seems limited here. They specialize in Moon Pies. They are packed with alot of flavor. Service is very friendly but its hard to know what they have on the menu unless you know about Vietnamese food

Great quality of moon cake and banh pia plus the sponge cake with pork and egg york. The place is organized, well displace and with great customer service directly from the owners. Price wise is high but if it l good then why not.

Friendly owners and everything they sell smell and taste fresh. I come here, however, solely for the pate chaud. At $1.50 each, this place has the best tasting and best priced pate so currently. The crust is big and flaky, filled with a generous pork filling inside. The flavor is on point and you cannot eat just one. Generous serving and quality taste at an affordable price, what more can you ask for? Do call and order in advance as they sell out. I typically order at least 20 at a time.

    Doors open at Kim Ninh!

This husband and wife duo are two people you have to meet and whose beautiful baked goods you have to try. HOMEMADE. Baked fresh. Generously portioned. Deliciously made. And the welcome, by both, was one of the most vibrant, generous, and authentic experiences, at a business, in a long, long time. Upon our first visit -- on Lunar New Year (Year of the Fire Horse!) -- the doors were wide open upon arrival. (We came for the mooncakes!) The bakery smells were SO good, SO apparent, SO full and soothing, right upon entering the shop, too. Mr. Kim, with his big smile, greeted me and my partner with such an abundant joy -- as if we were family. He wasn't selling either; he was just treating us as if we were two of his own. (How lovely is that??) He gave us a generous and detailed rundown of all they offered, including the pate chaud -- a savory pastry loaded with meat filling, which he warmed up for us, on the spot, and which we enjoyed while waiting for him to prepare our other choices. It was so sweet! WE FELT AT HOME. The pate chaud -- of which Mr. Kim is incredibly proud in the way it is made -- was SO PERFECT. They had so many offerings, all of which looked delectable. We ended up getting 3 mooncakes -- a mung bean and durian fruit (Mr. Kim's suggestion!), a taro, and a combination (also a suggestion from him, since it was freshly baked right before we arrived!) We also ordered a 5 pack (only $5!) of the pate chaud -- which continues to give to us days later. (Air fry them -- Mr. Kim's wife's suggestion -- for 3-4 minutes and ... wow!) ALL CAKES WERE EXQUISITE AND FRESH. The cake / dough / pastry portion -- on the mooncakes and the pate chaud -- were soft, crispy, flaky, perfect. Light, not thick. The filling on the mooncakes are so full, hearty, and not too sweet. (Again, generous!) The taro was our particular favorite, but all were sensational and very, very well made. As if our visit wasn't full enough, with Mr. Kim welcoming us so wonderfully, Kim, his wife, busy in the back, came out at the end and offered me and my partner a coconut cookie, each, on the house, as a to-go gift for our patronage. (What?!) This sort of treatment doesn't exist -- except here! It was like stepping into their home, into a dream, at Kim Ninh Bakery. We left feeling light in our hearts. They care about their offerings, of course; but, goodness, they also care about their guests (even their new ones, like us!) They celebrated our presence! And, as they shared info on each offering and prepped our mooncakes to go, Mr. Kim was able to tell us, with such gratitude and pride, of their many, many customers from Texas (where they did this business, this beautiful baking, for 20 years (20!) before moving West.) Welcome to the West Coast, you two! GO SEE THEM! TRY THEIR CAKES AND COOKIES AND PATE CHAUD!! You won't regret it. Goodness, you won't regret it. Thank you, Mr. Kim, and Kim, for starting our New Year off right. Happy Lunar New Year. And we will see you again. Miles & Trish

I think I just rekindled a long-lost relationship with this bakery…read more The last time I visited was probably a few years ago, and while I remember liking it well enough, I wasn't exactly blown away by the vegetarian and vegan options at the time. Fast forward to recently, and their Instagram marketing team deserves a raise because they absolutely got me. Every other scroll seemed to feature some gorgeous vegan pastry or savory item, and before I knew it, I was planning a visit solely based on cravings induced by social media. The pistachio croissant, pâté chaud, and sticky rice had been living rent-free in my head for weeks. Let me just say: this place exceeded the hype. The pâté chaud was the star of the show. I ordered both the regular version and the "beef" version. The vegan beef filling was tasty, but there wasn't a whole lot of it. The regular pâté chaud, on the other hand, was generously filled with vegan pork and mushrooms and was absolutely phenomenal. Flavorful, savory, and wrapped in the flakiest, butteriest pastry imaginable. One bite and I was immediately transported back to childhood. Pâté chaud was one of those treats my dad would always bring home for me growing up, so finding a vegetarian version felt like discovering buried treasure. Not to be dramatic, but I would happily eat a concerning number of these in one sitting. The xôi gà (sticky rice with seasoned vegan chicken) was another knockout. In my excitement, I started eating it immediately instead of waiting to warm it up first. Rookie mistake. By the time I realized my error, I had already inhaled most of it. After heating up the remaining portion, I finally understood what I had deprived myself of. The warm version was next-level delicious. If the room-temperature version was an A, the heated version graduated summa cum laude. I have been thinking about it ever since and am currently fighting the urge to drive back for more as I write this review. The girl working at the counter was also incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Needless to say, I will not be waiting another few years before returning. In fact, if you see someone sprinting toward the pastry case for vegan pâté chaud and sticky rice, there's a decent chance it's me.

Both of these items were good! They were also reasonably priced as I got both for ~$8-9. The honeycomb cake was slightly sweet and chewy. The vegan pastry was flaky despite being vegan! There was a good amount of filling, which consisted of the vegan pork and mushrooms. It was savory and had a good texture too.
