It was an immediate rude interaction with the staff, who refused to give even a slight estimate on wait time and the bald gentleman said "I have better things to do than discuss the list, so let's move on". Okay, WOW. We were sat within a reasonable period, and sipped a glass of wine waiting, no problem. Then the tall white haired gentleman came by and told us we were NOT to eat the certain charcuterie with bread, and to eat it like THIS, at which he grabbed a slice with his fingers off our plate and stuffed it into his mouth. WOW. Later he cussed as well, which for most Seattlites might be fine, but dear god, have some tact! There is a level of snobbery here I have never experienced in my entire 25+year dining history. Well, after receiving some light berating, we were able to try some tasty wines and delicious charcuterie. My favorites were the cervelle de canut (herbed cheese spread) and radis anchoiade (radishes with caesar dressing, essentially). And can't go wrong with bread and butter (beurre breton)! Very cute wine bar in the middle of downtown. I went on a Thursday night with a friend, and got a table for 2 very quickly. It did get busy later in the evening but there was never a line that I could see. I loved how affordable the cheese and meat platters were and even the fish in parchment was delicious and well priced! The wine variety is also quite large enough for you to try different varietals but small enough that it's not too much (and way too many choices). Definitely not somewhere for a "hearty" dinner but great if you want good conversations and wine with a friend or two (or date night!). I docked two stars though because I felt super uncomfortable and unwelcome. The wait staff were very knowledgeable but honestly - very snobby to me. I am not a wine expert and I'm sure my taste buds aren't that refined so I can't tell what I like or don't like. When I said I don't like "oak" in Chardonnay, the waiter then told me that "there is no oak in this Chardonnay" and walked away... without letting me explain further. When I also asked which cheeses were hard (vs. soft cheeses), another waitress said "aged means hard" and pointed back at the board as if I could have just read that (clearly not, if I was asking...). Overall, would not go again. I felt that the service turned me off enough that I didn't have a good time. read more

We came here at 4 pm as it was recommended by a friend for a nice spot that might be quiet to drink. While we did not have any food, we did enjoy our drinks. The server was helpful in narrowing down the options for us by asking our preferences. I decided on Cremant Rose. It has really tight bubbles. As you would expect from the name it is very creamy. It is also a fruity, strawberry, rose. My hubby prefers Chardonnay so the server helped narrow it down to the Domaine Mont Epin Macron- Peronne. It is a buttery wine with hints of apple and pear. I had a wonderful evening this week with a friend at Le Caviste. The last time I visited this wine bar was several years ago. I don't know why it fell off my radar, but it is back on it. The glasses of wine (5 ounce pours) are reasonably priced, and they offer a great variety. I selected a full bodied Gigondas and was not disappointed. The bites offered are also tasty. We opted for the olives, a nice creamy cheese served with an ample portion of baguette, and the tasty roasted mushrooms. Please give this establishment a try! Service was smooth and unobtrusive. The atmosphere, music, chairs, even the way the chairs and tables are arranged on the street will take you (back) to France. It seems the business is owner's passion; hence consistently everything has been great... ...except the service. The service has been variable. I usually tell them what kind of wine I like and take their suggestions. As far as food goes you can't miss the planche du Beaujolais. It comes with a basket of bread, a small serving of toasted bread, the most insane goat cheese spread, French butter, pate with a cherry compote, cornichons, and two types of cured meat. You can also add other meats and cheeses that sound good to you. Another item we get regularly is the poisson en papillote. Basically it's a white fish baked inside parchment paper. It is AMAZING. Seriously, it's some of the best fish dishes ever. Served on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes with lemon and pesto. read more
