Found this place by happenstance on Apple Maps, had good reviews and pictures to show what to expect of the food. I must say, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was training tonight, and regardless of that they were both attentive to our needs, kind, and knowledgeable about the food. We got the Hummus and Pita, the Fattoush salad with grilled Chicken, and the Eggplant Rollatini. I finished the Rollatini so quickly, it was extremely good! I would order it again without a doubt. The Fattoush salad with grilled Chicken was amazing as well. Perfect grilled Chicken, flavorful dressing without being overpowering, the mint and Sumac added a fresh and light touch to the salad making it such a nice refreshing salad. I highly recommend! Not only was the ambience good, the staff attentive, the owner of the restaurant/ bar was so kind and so easy to talk to! He bought over the Sumac spice for us to try, and the dressing that they make with the spice for the salads. He moved here from Lebanon, I believe, 32 or 35 years ago without knowing a bit of English and built such a wonderful dream. This place fell off on so many categories. The menu changed and so did much of what they had. Originally visited in 2019. Martini's we're on point, the garnish and flavor were untouchable. Today they offer a full menu besides appetizers, but now have a small list of special drinks. The drinks were not impressive, similar to what you find at Applebee'sor Chilli's. Second, the service is strapped for the amount of tables they have now. They are maximizing seating from a bar to a restaurant format with reservation options. Which for a bar doesn't make sense. It's overly crowded and extremely noisy for the amount of people in such a small space. read more

I'm so confused as to why this place has such good reviews. Did they pay these people in terrible food? Or, do they live under a rock and this was their first dining experience? The staff is nice. They are friendly. But, um, they have no idea on how to serve. Our server carried our tepid, sweaty water glasses like a second grader with her fingers facing down into the inside of the glass below the water line. . She also had her fingers all up in our food like she was massaging it. It was gross. She was kind and smiled a lot, but nobody wants their drinking water fingered. We ordered different courses and never got fresh silverware. When she took our plates, she manhandled our forks and tossed them on the table. Did she know they were going back in our mouths? Ok, the food. I ordered a $17 Fattoush salad that claimed to have fresh mint, parsley and sumac. It did not. My daughter joked that it looked like the condiments that fall out of your cheeseburger. My friend had canned, soggy beats on her sad ass salad. And the cooks did that octopus so dirty. It was overcooked that it was unchewable and drenched in salt likely because it wasn't good quality. My daughter ordered the lobster ravioli that looked more like a soup. I should have heeded my spidery senses when I saw tacos, pasta and Lebanese food on the menu. That's always a bad sign. Ugh. Yelp let me down on this one - hard. It had great ratings so we came here out of the blue just to check it out. Maybe it gets great ratings for drink - I honestly don't know since we only ordered food. Bottom line, it sucked. The best app was probably the bacon wrapped dates. The Asian wings were overly salty. Mezze platter was dry and bland. Scallops weren't appropriately seared and had no texture. Chicken Marsala was decent but not great. Margarita pizza was dry and flat. Tasted like it was taken out of a supermarket freezer. People, come on. Food is bad. Eat at Ten Steak and Sushi around the corner. But not here. I've been here twice now and had a flawless experience both times. Sometimes bars will lean too far into the Instagram demographic and focus on aesthetics more than actual good cocktails and good service. I was worried that would be the case with Layali since they have a lot of fun flaming specialty drinks. But rest assured, the quality is there to back it up! Their cocktails are great. They have a bunch of creative options that I've never seen before, like the "Kentucky muffin." The swine flu shot (some sort of orange/citrus shot that they light on fire and sprinkle with cinnamon) is a super fun option for a special occasion. They also do classics well--I enjoyed a couple of aperol spritzes here to ring in the spring. The second time I came here, everyone was hungry so we decided to share a bunch of small plates. The olives, hummus plate, and charred cauliflower were all delicious. My friends also enjoyed the thin-crust pizza and the glazed crispy pork belly. They have a really decent amount of vegan and gluten-free options since Middle Eastern food simply prepared tends not to have a lot of allergens. The prices were honestly not bad considering how much we got -- it was about $35 per person (including tip) for 1-2 cocktails and a filling lunch. The service is great: really fast and the servers are super nice. It definitely gets pretty packed on the weekends but you can also come here on a weekday or Sunday afternoon for more of a chill sports bar vibe. After getting it reheated, I noticed my pasta was straight bland--no oregano, garlic powder, etc. The shrimp was basically just cooked and mixed with pasta sauce. For $25, not worth it. The chicken parm was okay, once again lacked flavor. I have made more flavorful pastas at my house. Got a virgin drink for $10--watered-down sprite and basil leaves. Nasty. Would I recommend this place for food? No, maybe an appetizer or dessert. I can't say anything on drinks, but this seemed more like a bar than anything. Seating is cramped, the place is small, and the music is so high that everyone is yelling. The music is the damn EDM beat drop kind of music, not even newer songs with words. Honestly, not my vibe; could be yours. But yeah, even when the seating and bar filled, more people would come in just to drink, standing around. Server was okay, not too attentive. That is all--come for shots and to be loud, maybe a snack. Crowd is like 25+ from the looks. Went last night with another couple and cannot say enough about Layali. The food was amazing( I think we got almost everything on the shared plate menu and we all did just that. The drinks were great, not overly priced like you find in a lot of restaurants, and a little different( try the flaming espresso or chocolate martini....the perfect dessert you can drink after a great meal! The vibe was energetic and fun. Waitstaff and bartenders were friendly and genuinely seemed happy to be working there...which I have to say is so refreshing to see. This is the best bar I've ever been to. I asked the bartender Tim to marry me he politely declined but brought me warm olives. It all worked out. The drinks were superb, the shots the catch on fire tasted like the family holidays I wasn't allowed to attend. He gave me hope that one day a husband would appear. Came here for lunch on a weekday. Wasn't that busy at around 2pm. Got a comfortable booth. Lunch menu consisted of Mediterranean and American dishes. Got fish tacos, tabouli and tomato basil soup. The soup was pretty good, the other two were not that great. The tabouli felt like something was off, couldn't tell what it was. Fish tacos tasted somewhat sweet/bland. Overall Aok experience. New favorite find. The cocktails alone are worth five stars. THEY ARE MAGICAL. -Flaming espresso martini, arriving in flames (on a piece of chocolate which is completely edible post fire) -Rosemary bourbon old fashioned, with rosemary that's been torched right at the table to give the drink a smoky taste -Pineapple coconut mojito that tastes just as tropical as it sounds I like the small space, it feels lounge-y and intimate. There are a couple of tvs for sports fans, but it's not a sports bar. (As a side note, the bar itself is constructed well. My ex bf's grandfather owned a restaurant and was particular about the bar having a "lip" so that if a drink is spilled, it doesn't spill onto the customer. This bar has a very nice protective edge). The food is also delicious. If you like light, thin crust pizza, this is your place. I could eat three of these pizzas by myself--the margherita is a good one to start with, if in doubt. Other than that, I've only had appetizers, but all of them were great. Barcelona shrimp is fantastic, made with choriço (chorizo? How do y'all spell it here?) that has exceptional flavor. We ordered the soupy pizza and shrimp app. The pizza was cooked perfectly, but I was hoping for the flavors of a spicy soupy from Westerly Packing. I have to say the staff is amazing and the owner was very friendly and open to suggestions as they they are just opening their doors. It didn't take long for Layali to become my favorite spot in the city. It's a shame that the Providence scene has died down. But with Layali open, it's a fresh start; not to mention a sort of rebirth of the beloved Kartabar. This is a perfect place for pretty much anything. Lunch, after work drinks, a date, or a night out on the weekend. Not loud so you can have a normal conversation. As the night progresses the music gets louder, but definitely at the right times. Outdoor seating when the weather calls for it. Even the owners are interactive and social. The drink menu from Kartabar is still here. Amazing martinis and tasty seasonal drinks. Try the flaming espresso martini, it's excellent. Love the hummus and pita bread. Flatbread pizza is also delicious. Layali has its own inherent uniqueness that draws me in. First, I'm a little biased. I came here for my birthday and they were amazing. My friends and I took over the place on a Sunday when they would normally be dead. They created a drink for me, gave me birthday shots (they were blue and lit on fire!!), and were just all around kind to me and my drunken friends. The drink menu was very similar to the old Kartabar - if you remember that. It's the same owner so that makes a lot of sense. Also, it's one of the few places downtown where there was actual off street parking. Off street parking, downtown! The food menu was good, but limited. If you are looking for a light something to nosh on, this could be your place. If you need an actual meal, you may want to eat first. Overall, I really liked this place. The eggplant app, the pita bread, and grilled shrimp had a flavor like "a rusty pan" I'm not sure what it was but I noticed it immediately and wondered what would make it taste like that. Layali is bar where class meets new age. It's nestled in a corner spot. As you walk into the bar you walk down a few steps giving it a homey feeling. The brick wall on the far side and the large windows lining the other walls gives it the rustic classic look. The venue is not large but it's the prefect mixture of comfort with the right amount of seating. Also, with many collage bars in the area, Layali tends to draw a slightly older, more well dressed crowd. We took seats at the bar. The first thing that caught my attention was all the fresh mixing ingredients for the many different cocktails you can order. They were laid out the length of the bar. While the wall behind the bar showcased their full alcohol selection. A recommendation was given to me to order the "smoked old fashion". It was between that and the special, which was a candy smoked bacon old fashion. Apparently this bar has a reputation of liking to light drinks on fire. I decided to go with the fist. They start by smoking the thyme under the glass right in front of me while they prepared the drink. It was beautifully presented and the first sip was not disappointing in the least. However, after a few minutes I noticed it started to taste like lighter fluid. This was a complete turn off. Highly disappointing. The couple seating at the end of the bar ordered two espresso martini, which were made with much elegance. Top with a hollowed out chocolate cup. Which was served on fire. This is great spot to the enjoy rich, comfort atmosphere while watching the magic that is the bar tenders creating beautifully crafted cocktail. A night late spot for any connoisseur. read more
