I know this is described as a speakeasy-style spot, however, I didn't really get that from it. Since it's not very mysterious and is located downstairs, I almost think they should call it an underground lounge instead. There are TVs all around, which gave me more of a sports bar or karaoke feel. It's definitely lively and it seems great for groups. We came here after dinner for drinks. The drinks were not my cup of tea. My friends and partner thought they were okay. The cocktail names were creative, however, they were on the sweeter side, which isn't my preference. This probably isn't our usual type of spot, though I can see it being a good place for dates or groups before or after the club. It has a younger, energetic crowd, and I can see people having a good time here. Street parking can be tricky. Overall Service: Service was fine. Loved the French 75 martini, very summer! This place is located in the bottom floor of the building, and I don't think that there is an elevator, at least I didn't see one. Came for the Valentine's menu with my wife on a whim while looking for places that advertised as having a speakeasy sort of vibe. Roast chicken was absolutely delicious! Good pick of oysters, chocolate mousse cake also very good. Really cozy atmosphere, I like that it's in a basement. Minor critiques: $12 was a little crazy for how tiny a piece of cake we got, but prices otherwise were fine. It's louder than a speakeasy place would typically be and other reviews tell me that wasn't a one-off but not a big deal. Their website does make a bit of a to-do about "proper dress" so we rolled in probably more than a little overdressed - don't take that too much to heart if you're looking into the place. My wife and I tried Needle and Thread before PPAC this past week. We had a very good experience. The interior is nicely laid out with a small bar and a large seating area on the right. We sat at the bar. We got there at 5 PM, so they were still busy getting everything ready. It took a few minutes to get served and a few more to actually get the drinks. Everything in terms of service got a lot better as the night progressed. Our server at the bar took very good care of us after things settled. We started with some drinks. My wife had the Base Stitch, and I had a Manhattan. Both were made well and were very well balanced. We ordered the calamari to start. It turned out it was half price due to the happy hour. The calamari was nice and crisp, not oily, and very flavorful. Our second round of drinks was Old Fashions, and were excellent. I ordered the Eddy's Better Half for dinner, and my wife ordered the Lomo Saltado. Against my better judgment, I ordered the fries as well. Way too much food, but I am a closet French Fry junkie, and these were on the money. My chicken was small but very flavorful. My wife's dish was a big hit as well. Food was great. Our server got us a "on the house" dessert to make up for the first drink wait. We will be back for sure. read more

Needle & Thread has been on my list of "must try" places for awhile, and we finally made it there for dinner over the weekend. We made a reservation and arrived at 6pm and there was only one other party seated in the restaurant. It did fill up later on. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, with enough of a hum to be comfortable. Our server was very friendly, brought us water, and took our drink orders, but then we sat, and sat, and sat for about 20 minutes before our drinks arrived. My husband's beer was good, my cocktail "Ripped Seams" was delicious, but my friend's cocktail "Sundress by the Campfire" arrived with the glass just half full. For $15, at least fill the glass, please. Our food orders were eventually taken and we ordered the nachos with beef, the rib eye steak tacos, and the Royale with cheese. My oh, my! All of the food was absolutely delicious! I would order each of these items again in a heartbeat. Prices were very fair and portions were good. While we were eating, our server was overly anxious to clear our plates. She came by 3+ times and asked if she could take dishes and glasses that we were still enjoying. This was pretty annoying and also gave us the feeling that we were being rushed out. So, I would give the service at Needle & Thread a 2, and the food a 5. I guess that averages out to a 3? My friend and I have been wanting to go to Needle & Thread for a long time now so we were so glad we finally made it! Needle & Thread is located on Peck St. Metered street parking is available. When you open the door to Needle & Thread and wind down the stairs, you are transported into an underground world that is a classic speakeasy style cocktail bar and restaurant. The underground nature of the bar gives it an alluring atmosphere where people can have a romantic night out or share a private conversation with friends since there are several nooks where you can score some seclusion. My friend and I chose a couch. During the time we were there on a Thursday night, only a few people were at the bar and two tables were occupied. The menu can be accessed by scanning the QR code found on the table. The menu consists of cocktails, tiny plates, snacks, and even entrees. On Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm to 7pm, there is "Appy" Hour where appetizers are half off. My friend and I ordered the seasoned fries for $5 and Rhode Island calamari for $9. The fries and calamari were crispy and the sauce was very good. The portions were a good size too. For drinks, we had Passion For Days Spritz and Harvest Margarita. The Passion For Days Spritz had passion fruit juice, aperol, prosecco, and club soda. This drink was delicious and it was very smooth. The Harvest Margarita had Mi Campo Blanco Tequila, apple cider, triple sec, and lemon. This was stronger than the Passion For Days Spritz, but still very good. I feel like I could drink many Passion For Days Spritz. Service was wonderful. Nicole was our server and she was very attentive. Needle & Thread wasn't too crowded for a Thursday night and it was quiet enough for my friend and I to have a conversation. My friend and I had a wonderful time. Our server tried really hard but she couldn't overcome her lousy co-workers who hung at the bar with their friends who took up most of the bar seats, then they kept doing shots together instead of paying attention to the customers. We came here based on the article in Providence magazine. It was a total disappointment. The charcuterie board was fine but nothing special, the Greek chicken tacos were neither Greek nor tasty, and the chicken empanadas were ok but bland. The cocktails were excellent but that was the only thing I'd recommend here. Definitely do not get the tacos. They come in a double taco shell that was barely fried, so they were soggy and greasy instead of crisp. The chicken was bland and nothing at all was Greek. I hadn't been here in a few years, so my friends and I decided to go here for drinks and dinner to catch up around the holidays. Since my last visit, they had changed around their dinner menu a bit, and it was great. I had a Caesar salad with blackened chicken, which was very yummy, as well as some fabulous french fries. The fries were seasoned in a way that they tasted like BBQ potato chips (yum!), and were great paired with the mayo (as recommended by our amazing waitress). If just going for drinks, you cannot go wrong with any of the espresso martinis. First off, I had a reservation for a party of 5. We were running late and when I called to inform them, they were super accommodating and sat us as soon as we arrived. To sip, I had the Father's Old Fashioned which was a play on your standard old fashion with chocolate bitters and espresso. It was so good! Needle & Thread was an unexpected vibe. They played mostly R&B, hip-hop and some Afrobeats. After 11, a DJ came through and it got packed pretty quickly. Came here for valentine's day with my husband, we'd never been and heard good things/read some good reviews. It was a good vibe! The food was delicious (roasted chicken veggies and mashed potatoes) and came out fairly quick, only thing I noticed was the slice of cake we ordered was pretty small for a $12 slice. soundtrack/playlist was fun, some 2000's bangers, and the staff were nice! They also had a free valentines photobooth for people to use. I came dressed up pretty fancy because the dress code online said proper dress, but was a little surprised when I showed up to see I was the only one in a dress and everyone else in very casual clothing. Oh my goodness! We arrived relatively early and were the first to sit at the bar. Located down a flight of stairs, a hostess will seat you at a table, or seat yourself at the bar. Two gender neutral restrooms are behind the hostess stand. A small group of tables is tucked in a square area to the right as you enter and a bar that seats about 8 (I didn't count them)) is straight ahead. Because we were there before the crowds, we had the staff 'to ourselves' so to speak and we had a roaring good time with them. Their cocktail menu is so interesting. I want to try them all. We asked who their mixologist is and was told they all make suggestions and work together to craft the perfect cocktail. After sampling my beverage, I can say very well done. I chose the 'Inseam', a mix of bourbon, vanilla infused Aperol and a spritz of absinthe. So much happening in this cocktail. So many layers, start, middle, finish. It was an excellent first choice for me. As we literally came in for 'a' drink, we left just as the crowds were picking up and our new bartender friends were getting super busy. Let me first say the ambiance here is unique and relaxed with a cozy, moody industrial feel. Our server was helpful with cocktail and appetizer suggestions, she was busy but still attentive. My partner ordered the Ginger Pear Sidecar and I ordered the Fruta Y Fuego, both had a good balance of alcohol to mixers and both were really good, see pictures for cocktail envy! We just stopped by for drinks but plan on returning to try the Local Mushroom Ramen, Poke Tacos and Cortland Crumble which sounds like a spin on an apple crumble. I came here as a group of 3 and we had a great time. It is a very relaxed, laid back atmosphere with options of large comfy chairs, low tables, high tables, couches, benches, and bar seating. The lighting is dimmed which helps create a warmer and relaxed atmosphere. The stairway down from street level is super cool, and as other reviewers mentioned, makes it feel like a speakeasy vibe. The signage makes it clear where the cocktail bar is, yet it is obscure enough that someone passing by may not really know that it is a cocktail bar, giving it that "word of mouth" (or word of Yelp) feel. Kind of neat if you ask me. The service was fantastic and we got checked on a bunch of times. The server explained a lot of different food and drink options. I ended up getting an old fashioned, which was amazing (although it is not on the menu, the server said it is one of their specialties), along with a pulled pork sandwich which was also amazing. The food portions are on the small to medium side, but leave you feeling satiated. Just enough to want more but not enough to feel stuffed or super full. My pulled pork sandwich came as 3 "normal sized" half sandwiches with a small side of spiced collard greens. The pork was insanely tender and flavorsome and the greens were cooked to perfection, albeit very spicy. I feel that the food, while it is 5 star caliber and amazing, is not the center focus of Needle & Thread and it is more solely defined as a cocktail bar. The food menu options are not extensive or friendly to all preferences or diets, and the dishes are not huge, nor are they designed to be. In a nutshell, the food menu contains very upscale, incredibly tasting comfort food designed to accompany your drinks. I think the food many can also totally be considered 'late night food'. It is perfect for what it was designed for. The one thing that was a bit of a bother (and only reason for 4 stars instead of 5) was the music. They were playing relatively loud music, which someone must had turned down a little, to our relief, but later someone else totally cranked it about 2x louder than prior. We were hanging out but as soon as the music started blasting we ended up just leaving. We could barely hear ourselves talk at that point. Even though Needle & Thread is downtown, parking is really easy with a choice of tons of paid lots nearby. These may fill up quick on Friday and Saturday nights. There is also street parking which is obviously metered most of the time. I found it incredibly easy to find parking which is all within a 1-2 minute walk of the restaurant. Overall a really good time and would completely come back here anytime. read more

The staff were all extremely pleasant and friendly, the ambiance is super cool, and the drinks are really excellent! A colleague and I came here for dinner and drinks and had a really nice time. The only reason I have 4 stars instead of 5 was that I tried a couple of the new menu items and honestly through they could do with a bit more finesse (maybe this is already in the works). I had tried the shakshuka appetizer which was advertised as having poached eggs. The eggs seemed more like they were baked into the sauce and they were rock solid. No runny yolk. That was disappointing, although the other flavors were very good. I also tried the corn pasta which was very tasty but borderline salty. I still enjoyed it otherwise. People told me to check N&T out. But I did not heed their orders until one Friday night when my fiancé and I visited. She ordered the Melon Sour and I had a Vieux Carré. We both loved our drinks. Our waitress was super kind and welcoming, but the greatest highlight of our time at N&T was the music! Soulful R&B played from the moment we walked in the door around 11p until we left. The vibes was superb: low lights, aesthetically pleasing, cool people, and lowkey. I would certainly revisit N&T with some friends, but it has taken the trophy as our new late night, date night spot. Once I looked at home, I notice I was charged for a drink I never had. To be sure, I asked for disaronno and they didn't have it but yet the drink was on my receipt. If you are not going to provide me with the drink then don't charge me for it. The ramen had virtually no flavor and was lacking salt. At least they used the right kind of noodles and the egg was cooked to a perfect jammy consistency. However, there was just no umami, savoriness, or aroma. The chicken sandwich was dry and flavorless. The brioche bun they used was good, but was also BURNT from over-toasting it. The chicken was very thin and not juicy at all. We also found the portions pretty small and were still hungry after! This never happens to us and it's usually the other way around.
