WOW! Stopped by here during Waterfire for a cocktail with friends and I am so glad we did. The space is so cool. It is called Needle & Thread because it is in a space that was formerly used by a local Tailor shop hence needle & thread. As you enter, you immediately head down a spiral staircase which brings you to a large bar area with a dining room to the right. The place is warm, cozy and has a speakeasy vibe to it. From velvet curtains to exposed brick to the swanky drinks they serve. I got the Tequila Jam Tequila, Lime, Apricot Raspberry Jam OH MY GOD. This might be the best cocktail I have had in quite some time. It was so good that I ended up ordering a second before we continued on with our exploration of downtown PVD. The staff was incredible and we definitely enjoyed our visit. I am looking forward to heading back soon to try their food and let's be honest, to order another tequila Jam cocktail. read more

We went in on a Wednesday night and we made reservations on their website. We sat at the bar instead of getting a table. As you enter, you go down the stairs and come to a large bar with a speakeasy type atmosphere and room with tables. There are three televisions at the bar. The lights are low and it was quiet. Tevin was our bartender and he was very attentive, had a great sense of humor and made great drinks. All of the staff were friendly and eager to please their customers. My favorite drink was the Antipasto and the FRUTA Y FUEGO. The menu is rather small, but once you do decide on something you will not be disappointed. We ordered the half chicken called "Eddie's Better Half." This was probably one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly with crispy skin with chimichurri on top. I usually don't eat the skin, but I had to! It came with a side of mixed greens with a lemon based dressing and mashed potatoes. The dressing was a little too lemon-based for me, but it was perfect with a scoop of the mashed potatoes. The chicken was definitely brined or injected, as the flavor were consistent through the chicken. We also ordered the "Royale With Cheese," a double patty smash burger. It was perfectly cooked and well balanced with the spices, pickles, and sauce. It came with a bag of chips from New Orleans and a side of homemade pickles. You really can't go wrong for $13. I look forward to going back and trying more menu items. I feel like everything will be amazing. Next time, I might make room for dessert. read more

Love this place! Came here on a weekday to grab some drinks. Loved the ambiance, vibe and music in this place. Not exactly a speakeasy but pretty cool bar nonetheless. Got the fruta y fuego, stoned fruit and blended scotch drink. Of them, the fruta y fuego was my favorite. They also have options for half crafts. For food, we got the rice bowl and caprese salad. The salad was Aok, wouldn't really recommend it. The rice bowl with chicken was pretty good, lots of interesting textures and flavors. Overall great place to meet up with friends and grab a drink. Bartender charged us $6 for 2 water bottles after she didn't use a very obvious full water pitcher when asked for some waters. She gave someone else a free cup of water maybe 2 minutes after. Overcharging because she was upset or hates her job. Shouldn't be at the customers expense. read more

We split They Royal burger which also was real good. Here is where I had my only problem. The burger was fantastic and the side of burger was a BAG Of CHIPS. Yes a BAG OF CHIPS. Staff is very cordial and friendly. I was meeting family there and though they were late,I was seated with no problem. Eventually they showed and I ordered a drink and the short ribs. My drink was Sundress by Campire, a mixture of Empress Gin,mezcal, lavender and lime. Very refreshing. Now my mouth starts watering ( in a good way), when I start thinking of the short ribs of beef I ordered. My palette has been spoiled by my sister's delicious butt kicking short ribs but I had to give this a try, in the event she refuses to cook them anymore. So why three stars?? The waitress was very sweet but slllllooooooowwwww. The place was not packed, there was another waitress there, so she wasn't handling the floor alone. It took forever for us to get our check. She'd look over to bring the check, then would forget us. It took no less than a half hour for us to receive check. That was ridiculous. This place is super cute but the staircase, which is a spiral one, is not for the faint of heart. Please be careful. It's a former haberdashery and has been renovated to be a speakeasy. This place has great atmosphere, however the pricing of the drinks were unacceptable given the cheap presentation of them. A $19.36 espresso martini is very expensive...especially considering it was in a plastic cup!!! The wine in a plastic cup was also $17. For that pricing, the drinks should at the very least be served in proper glassware. read more

This was for me quite excellent. I love going to a nice speakeasy and this definitely fit the bill. It was recommended by my waiter at my previous restaurant where I was having dinner with a friend. So we came down the steps, typical speakeasy style, and got some seats. It was pretty empty but we did come in the middle of the week and the ambience was great. I ended up having a couple of drinks and stood my friend. One of them was in negroni and the other was a house cocktail that they had. Both were excellent. Excellent spot. It is gorgeous inside. The cocktails were top notch. I had the Tailor Gang. Two actually since it was so good. The cinnamon spiced grenadine really came through. My friend had The Inseam and love it. We had dinner as well. I had the Royale with Cheese and it was one of the best burgers I have had. My friend had Eddie's Better Half and raved about it. I wish I had room to try the chocolate mousse but did not. The staff was all very nice. The hostess was delightful as was our server. I will definitely go back here. Needle & Thread is the perfect speakeasy cocktail lounge that I've been searching for right in downtown Providence! The vibes and atmosphere are amazing and they have some of my favorite cocktails that I've had in RI! The antipasto martini (vodka, cherry pepper, dill, and Italian pickled peppers) spoke to me because my drink of choice is a dirty martini. My other favorite is the fruta y fuego which was full of chili infused tequila, guava, lime, and chili salt. We have been here numerous times, including my wedding weekend when a large group of friends (24 people), and we have always been given awesome customer service no matter the size of our group. Love this place and it is most definitely a must for a date night downtown. read more

Our experience here was great. Being from NY there are quite a few speak easy places to visit so we had to see what this one was like. When we arrived the owner was in the front of the establishment greeting the guests. I love when the owner get involved. It's always a nice touch. The drinks are delicious. We tried the Spiced Pear Side car, Broken Dollie and stoned fruit. They were all well made. We started with Apps. Local Oyster with Mignonette, cocktail sauce & horseradish was my favorite of the oysters. A must try. Warm Green Goddess Oyster is more traditional with Melted herb butter compote, charred lemon & sea salt. Tiny Tacos with Sushi tuna, marinated onions, mint, ocean ranch sauce & crispy wonton shell were out of this world. Peck Street Corn with Roasted corn on the cob, popcorn butter, togarashi spice, cotija cheese & lime. Who doesn't love a Mexican street corn. One of the best I've tried. Caesar Salad with chicken with Crisp Romaine, shaved reggiano, roasted lemon, cracked pepper & classic dressing was very good. Fresh and the chicken was grilled perfectly. Very flavorful and that roasted lemon. Yum Charcuterie consists of Spicy soppressata, sweet salmi, sliced prosciutto, aged cheddar, provolone and parmesan, tomato jam, apricot mustard, mixed nuts and stone fruit, whole grain crackers which we adored. The cheeses were fresh and the meats were perfect for paring with the other items on the board. One adjustment I would make would be to slice the meats thinner. Brings out the flavor more but it's well worth getting no matter what. Entrees we did..... Fettuccini With Clams with Hand made fettuccine pasta, spicy sopressata, charred broccoli rabe, heirloom tomatoes, white wine, beurre monte. Arugula pesto smothered crostini. This dish was really good with absolutely no complaints. Nice size clams with a generous amount in the dish. Would recommend trying. N&T Rice Bowl with Tuna with Cucumber kimchi, cilantro, pickled jicama & carrot, seaweed, black sesame, wonton crunchies, lime-soy vinaigrette & spicy mayo. You can add shrimp, chicken, tuna, vegan tar tar or vegan scallops as an option. My friend loved this dish. Royale With Cheese is a Double- quarter pound patties, sharp cheddar, caramelized onion, pickles, fugazzi sauce, brioche bun & Zapp's chips. Let me begin to say. I LOVE ZAPP's. There original from Louisiana and becoming more and more easy to find outside of Louisiana. Great touch instead of plain old fries. VooDoo heat is my fav. So with this being said I hope you have a great experience as I did with my two friends. Everyone is very friendly and the whole establishment is clean and cozy with that prohibition vibe. Ambiance and atmosphere is fantastic, definitely has the vibe locked down great space. My wife enjoyed her drinks, the two I had were ok but didn't blow me away. Wife enjoyed her pasta dish even though the shrimp was overcooked, I had the short ribs which I could tasted the red wine flavoring in the braising, but the dish needed more salt and was underwhelming without it and though the vegetable hash was seasoned well but a it was a over oily, wasn't a terrible dish but could have been better executed. Service started off good, quick to the table to order drinks and then food, but after we finished eating we sat there for 15-20 minutes without a check in so we could order another round of drinks, we had to go so we weren't able to get another round.
