Excellent diner! Our go to place for breakfast, and now newly renovated and looking better than ever!

You know, I usually went here on sundays after a busy day at work with my significant other. Usually, the service is good but this time I went during lunch time on a weekday and just took a seat near the hut area (green house) on the left side. They usually say just sit anywhere and we did. It took 20 minutes to even give us water and another 5 minutes until we finally got a waitress who was willing to take our order. Forgot my soup. Was ready to leave, but felt bad just leaving. I was a frequent customer but now I will try not to go there again. read more

At first we weren't sure if we were gonna stop here because it look like a run down place from the outside. we took a gamble and we did! we keep coming back! The Laurel is a consistently great diner with food, atmosphere, and service to match. Whenever I need a casual meal when passing through Long Beach, it's my go to place to stop. From their soups and salads to sandwiches and burgers to the dinner specials, and lets not forget breakfast selections, you can't go wrong! The portions are generous to say the least. The food is fresh and tasty. I was just there yesterday and had one of my favorite salads of all time: The Laurel's Sunset Santorini Salad (Organic greens, feta, walnuts, red onion, dried cranberries, the house dressing & balsamic fig glaze with choice of chicken, avocado, salmon, or steak topping). And we then shared a rice pudding served in a x-large sundae glass with whip cream and sprinkled cinnamon. The waitress gave us cup of raisins gratis when we she heard us say we like them in rice pudding as she walked away! During peak hours it can get crowded. I like to go in between those times, for a late breakfast or an early dinner. Highly recommend this first rate diner! It's a gem. read more

My boyfriend loves this diner and I don't mind it. The food is okay I never jumped out of my seat. Very typical diner style. The bathroom is in a crawl space whole in the wall between their storage area and kitchen so I always feel I'm gonna go to the bathroom and never return lol..creepy!! This one man I can't stand who doesn't know how to use a credit card machine and when I call in my order he puts the phone down and starts a conversations with someone else who works there and I sat there for 5 mins listen to their smut talk...then he just hangs up the phone..he..makes me so anxious, again not my first choice or last just a place I eat quick and leave quick. read more

I've been coming for ages and the food has always been on point. My only issue is the waitstaff is kind of rude and never around when you need something; they seem to always be in a rush to get to the next table. Everything I've eaten here has been very good, and the service is fast. The best chicken lemon soup I've ever tried. The elvis pancakes are warm, fluffy, awesomely tasty. The chicken gyro is very good, the salad is always very fresh. One complaint on the chicken gyro: The yogurt sauce changed. This place was hopping when we arrived! We waited for almost 15 minutes before being seated. We were in six and my wife and I preferred to dine with the children. I ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup as an appetizer. A great start to a wonderful meal. This was followed by a seafood platter. The waiter explained that the platter was for one, however, it would be best if we split it. My wife and I followed his suggestion and were glad that we did! The fish was fresh and abundant just like the chicken parm sandwich and hamburger platters ordered by the children. I highly recommend this diner. This is the best place for breakfast right now in Long Beach. The hurricane took most things away... Even if wasn't the case, I think this diner is so cute. The line is ridiculous and can be annoying when you have a hungry 1 year old with a bad temper but once you are seated the service is fast. The breakfast food is decent.. Loved it! Ordered a omelette which was great and the coffee had kick and tasted fantastic! Service was quick even though they were fairly busy. Its definitely a typical diner. If you don't mind the chatter of people around you and various types of noises coming from all over then your good. I definitely recommend coming here for breakfast. We showed up dark and late to find the place mostly empty but still somehow lively and bustling. Giddily, the five of us slipped into a bright-colored booth and proceeded to flip through the wide-ranging menu until we got to the milkshake section. Our waiter approached soon after and was kind enough to go as far as to fetch and show us their container of Malted in attempt to answer our question of what it is. Five malted milkshakes later and our grins were even larger than they'd been when we'd first arrived (they'd been quite large already). Since the days of riding our bikes from Oceanside as kids I've been a laurel regular...I moved to long beach 3 years ago and have been a regular since.The food is always excellent and I have explored the menu extensively and am always a satisfied customer!!Never a meal I did not completely enjoy and have never left unsatisfied!! Always greeted at the door by either the hostess or one of the owners and always feel welcomed.The waitstaff are wonderful and always attentive! There is nothing like a good diner, and the Laurel is one of my favorites. Diner basics here are delicious--omelettes, burgers, fries, mozzarella sticks, pancakes, grilled cheese, you know what I mean. However, they've also got some tasty things on the menu I wouldn't expect from a diner. The seared tuna burger, salmon sandwich, and salads are also great. The staff are friendly and attentive. You might have to wait for a table when it's gets busy, but trust me, it's worth it. read more

I went there for breakfast, it was excellent! it was all perfect, just what I asked for! the coffee was fresh brewed too. I was very very satisfied with my breakfast but what made it the best was the girl behind the counter. she had a accent, im not so sure what accent it was but she had me laughing so much it was hard to eat my food. I think her name was eliea (im not sure tho). could not stop cracking up, I love it there! I go here for breakfast all the time. They have tasty omelets. I also do lunch and dinner here. I really like the prasini salad and their chicken noodle soup is pretty good. The waiters and waitresses are always attentive and the service is pretty good. FYI the chicken gyro is a little dryer than most. read more

Went here for the first time the other night and the food and service were great! The staff was very attentive and portions were huge.

Where to start...a party of 4 ppl. Late night at this place. We're crammed into a small booth of the otherwise empty diner. We order and one of the items We started with unappetizing chicken wings and mozzarella sticks. They were unappetizing because of the sauce they use, a very distasteful smell, at least in my opinion. We next graduated to the coleslaw. Bad bad coleslaw. I mean just no taste. My wife said it was because they didn't use that much mayo (maybe their really cheap?); regardless it was bad. I was quickly not enjoying myself.... I ordered a pork souvlaki dish. WHAT A MISTAKE! Have you ever had bad souvlaki at a diner (that's Greek owned)??? The eggs where very well done and the homefries were burned. It was just plain tasteless. Same crappy sauce. Even the Tzatziki sauce had no taste. The greek salad was worthless. And the french fries, well what do you think? I want to know how can you destroy Tzatziki??? I mean, it's just plain yogurt sauce. They probably diluted it to save money.... The waiter never checks back whether they had it it not, but we eventually found out when he brought it over. To our dismay, the apple pie was dry, crusty, and hard...in short, petrified. We ask for the pie to be taken back and the waiter begrudgingly complies, although he doesn't suggest a replacement. The salad was wilted, soggy, and flavorless. This was barely touched and returned. When the bill came, we were surprisingly charged for the salad!! (And 3 soups, although we only got 2.) Well, I called the waiter over to try to rectify the situation and asked him for a menu to compare the prices that were listed on the check. He kept arguing with me and it took 5-6 times to get the menu. When I asked to see the manager since the waiter was no help and he was just arguing, he literally tried to stand in my way so I couldn't go to the front. Unfortunately, the manager was no better. He talked too much and, coming from someone in the customer service business, he did not know much about it. He also was argumentative (see a pattern?) and tried hard to not see my point. In the end, we didn't have to pay for the salad (big deal), but the bigger lesson learned was to *NEVER* go back here. Poor service, rude staff, and mediocre food. Sure it was the morning; then don't serve what won't be good. read more

I have been a patron of the Laurel Diner (and the Laurel Luncheonette before that) since 1966 having lived right around the corner and literally growing up on their "burger specials". I have found both the food and the service to have been exemplary throughout the years.What I have also found out throughout the years that it's almost always people that have miserable lives and some deep seated inadequacies and way too much time on their hands that usually post absurd comments on websites. Perhaps you can pick up a new hobby like tracking the next asteroid to strike the planet in your free time.The Laurel doesn't need customers like you and I'm sure their business won't be effected by your negative review that you will share with your two friends. read more
