This diner is Gucci, the customer service is nice and the water is ice cold. During busy hour it only takes about 10min to get your food. Food tastes AMAZING. I go here every Monday. Great service. read more

I could probably eat breakfast here everyday, love the eggs Florentine, berry pancakes &omelettes. They make a great cup of coffee that they make sure stays full & hot. Service is always great & the whole staff seems to always be smiling. Great burgers, wraps & fries too! Best soups around, Yankee bean & tomato bisque are my favorite but you need to go on the right day. Delivery is always fast, hot & correct too! Definitely recommend. read more

The owners of this place work very hard. They spent a fortune remodeling and made a huge commitment to stay in Long Beach. For that, they deserve support. They got a big note to pay along with Long Beach's outrageous commercial taxes. Greasy diner food? You got it! Noisy, crowded or fun depending on how you like bumping elbows with a stranger. The staff is as good as it gets. Nice people. And the patrons -- you'll meet all of New York here, from Senators to actresses. The Laurels is a staple. I prefer a place without the Horn & Hardart ambiance but otherwise this is as good as it gets. read more

Very interesting place. It has that little town diner feel from the old days, something you may see in a movie at a truck stop or in the middle of no where. I'll start off by saying in the end, the food was pretty good. However the service was terrible! We waited for a table for 15 minutes, no biggie, especially for a weekend morning! However, once we were seated we waited for an additional 20 minutes before our waitress even came over to ask if we were ready. We said yes and she walked away and didn't come back for another 5-10 minutes. Our drinks came first, but got 4 coffees instead of 3 coffees and a milkshake. We told her right away, as to not waste the 4th cup and asked for milk for the other coffees. We waited and waited and eventually had to flag down a busboy once we realized the waitress wasn't coming back. Our ordered "well done bacon" was served quite the opposite and the waitress offered to bring it back. However, in return we received cold bacon. We asked for syrup for the pancakes and yet again, waited and waited and never received it. The busboy should've received our tip at this point. We reminded her again about the milkshake and she asked what flavor- no apology at all for forgetting it- and took another 10 minutes before bringing it to the table, yet again without an apology for waiting until the end of our meal to bring the milkshake. We asked for a refill of coffee and we watched as other tables were served refills, with ours forgotten, yet again. It was clear that the line out the door could've been prevented if service was improved. I wanted so badly to like this place- great location, cute decor, yummy food- but it wasn't worth all of the hassle. We weren't asking for much- just milk for our coffee, syrup for our pancakes, well done bacon, and a vanilla milkshake. read more

Strolled into the Laurel Diner with my cousin last night. I ordered a mixed Seafood platter that was pretty good. The Creamed Spinach was delicious and not a usual diner offering. The bread was very ordinary, not great and was very surprised to see a tiny fruit fly near the bread basket. I don't remember seeing this in the winter but my cousin informed me that it has nothing to do with the outside temperature, Oh well! I was told my dinner came with either a soup or salad. I asked if I could have a Greek side salad and our waitress Melanie stated "I think that's $1 extra" which I agreed to. When our check came my $23.55 entree was now $26.55. It was several minutes later and when she did not return I asked the gentleman busing the tables if he could ask our waitress to come over. He said he would do so but did not. I saw her tending to a table about ten feet away. I caught her attention and asked if she could come over. She seeming acknowledged and went the other way. I found this very strange. I am extremely polite and tip well to boot. When I finally walked up to her I asked her to take another look at the check. She immediately got defensive and said "I told you it was more with the salad" I said I expected it would be a dollar more but not three. The bottom line was she was not pleasant or apologetic. She repeated that she used the word "think" but did that mean I was supposed to pay any amount. Shouldn't she have found out the right price. The manager took $1 off the $3 surcharge which was still not what I was originally told. Yes, she did use the word "think" but that still implies that it should be $1 more and shouldn't she know this? In either case, we felt like two cents standing at the register conferring over such a petty amount. Shame, because had they just have been pleasant I'd patronize this establishment again. I think they handled this quite foolishly. I never leave less than a 20% tip and quite often leave even more. I took $2 off the tip to pay for the salad but in retrospect I'm sorry I left a tip at all. I can tolerate any type of mistake but I don't mistreat anyone and I in turn shouldn't be mistreated. read more

Was in town so went to Yelp for some advise. The Laurel seemed like a OK choice based on Yelp reviews. I don't think I ate at the same place as some of these people. Got the Eggs Alla Laurel. The poached egg was far from pouched. It was way over cooked and had no yolk juice at all. Muffin was waved over the toaster at best, definitely not put in it. Bacon very well cooked and gross. Wont go back, nor recommend. read more

They need to learn the basics here like how to poach an egg. We ordered eggs bennedict which were over cooked with a hard yolk. We sent the eggs back and the second time around the yolks were over cooked again. Neither the waitress, hostess nor manager seemed to truly care. I complained to the manager about the lousy dining experience but he was unphased and I told him I would not be back. Fortunately, Long Beach has many other diners to choose from. If only we can give this place less than a star. Me and a friend of mine went into thinking we were going to eat some delicious food because we were really hungry and we came to a line which we had to wait about 15 minutes. Then as soon as we got shown to our table, no one came to us to help serve us. Five minutes passed by and then the fire alarms went off. The waitresses was telling us something about a fire extinguisher and contaminating the food and I know that is a health violation. We were told that they couldn't serve any food because it was bad and told to leave. I urge everyone to not come to this diner and suggest going elsewhere. Horrible waitress and horrible handling of the situation. Would very like if someone from this diner gave me a very good reason to ever come back! read more

Horrible experience when I was there yesterday for breakfast. My friend who is a person of color were seated at the sane time as three other couples. The waitress ignored us and went to all the tables around us. When I went up to the hostess she walked over and spoke to the waitress. Again she deliberately ignored us and went to a table behind us. This was clearly racial bias and we wound up getting up and leaving. No one bothered to ask us what was wrong. We took our business across the street where we were treated with respect and courtesy. read more

The diner gave a warm inviting feel. first I was seated to my table by a very friendly hostess and my server was professional and attentive. I first ordered cream of turkey and it was delicious. Not That good! A fifteen minute wait isn't awful for a good breakfast -it is when they seat someone they know, Steve, first even though he arrived and put his name in after you. Then the waitress forgot to bring the toast and juice that was ordered and was nowhere to be found for 10 minutes while we waited for the check. I was leaving for a conference in Chicago last week so wanted a quick bite on way to lirr. Place was not crowded late afternoon so grabbed a seat. I wasn't allowed to have a booth even though majority was empty. Well no biggie. Was approached right away and brought a glass of water which even 3 lemons couldn't help. I sat about 8 min and still nobody came for my order even though I heard them tell her I was ready. Not wanting to miss my train I decided I better take it to go so I left my nasty water for a spot at the counter next to my "waitress" who was apparently too busy eating off another customers plate practically sitting on his lap to ever come and take my order. Now waiting to order to go there is a short girl who apparently doesn't speak English or chooses not too and is only servicing the window to kitchen. I don't know if anyone in this place besides the busboy even noticed I was there. I've heard mixed things about this place since it reopened but I left for my trip hungry with a taste only of nasty water in my mouth. . I was a regular before it closed and loved it. The girls with the smiles that knew your order are gone and it is left with a crew that apparently are only interested in taking care of their own needs. I don't usually bother with writing reviews but I wouldn't believe it unless I experienced it myself. ... I was tempted to give them another chance when I returned home but decided for wings at Billy's down street where I at least knew I wouldn't leave hungry. Advice to mgmt, I heard its same owners as before got facelift and always admired the teamwork shown by your staff. Perhaps some employee training on the value of clientele could benefit your business. read more

Food is absolutely horrible and prices outrageous . Ordered a cheese burger and it had the weirdest smell ever. I understand things are expensive but 13 $ a burger with a weird smell on it come on now. Stop serving old food n maybe you won't be going out of business .
