It always arrives quickly and hot (if the meal is hot) Today we had the unfortunate incident of someone stealing the order from our porch. After confirming the food wasn't delivered to the neighbors or side entrance, I called Laurel. Their driver confirmed the order had been delivered. Laurel told us not to worry. In business since 1932, Laurel Diner is a classic diner in almost every sense. It's spacious and boisterous with striped booths that exude retro charm. The menu is appreciably huge, boasting everything from breakfast to sandwiches to pastas and much, much, more. About the only thing here that doesn't recall a bygone era is the pricing, which is high even by 21st-century Long Island standards. Laurel does at least offer rather generous portions (plus free coleslaw and pickles), but the food is nothing special. I went with a pastrami Reuben and a side salad in place of fries. The sandwich satisfied a craving though the meat was a bit chewy. It feels almost blasphemous, but I can get a better version down in North Carolina for about half the $20-plus cost. To Laurel's credit, the staff were at least attentive and accommodating. For those who grew up with diners like this or simply want a lot of options to choose from, Laurel Diner holds a certain appeal. Remove nostalgia from the equation, however, and it offers neither particularly good food nor a good value. read more

Came on a Wednesday at peak dinner time so it was super packed. The interior is cute and is your typical retro diner, but I was majorly disappointed by the food. Starting with the 3 alarm fries, the cheese was barely melted (don't be fooled by the ranch dressing on top) so it was basically just ranch fries mixed with slices of american cheese and jalapeños. Not that crispy and rather meh. The spaghetti and meatballs was just mildly flavored tomato sauce with what felt like reheated frozen meatballs. We ordered 2 all-american burgers and a "The Duke" burger - all 3 weren't really cooked to the right degree. Mine was meant to be medium rare and was slightly medium rare in some parts but mostly was more medium, and the ones meant to be medium were mostly medium well. The All American is your typical burger on paper but it's rather dry and also very mediocre. Honestly, nothing tasted particularly good or flavorful so giving it a 2/5 and I wouldn't recommend :( read more

Came to the Laurel diner when we were staying on the boardwalk nearby. It was a quick walk, and you can't beat the classic vibe here. Service was great as you would expect. Place is on the small side, which can lead to it being noisy, but it wasn't too bad when we were there. Food came out quick and hot. Prices a bit higher than other diners, but that might be what's necessary to stay in business locally. I got a reuben with fries. Not the absolute best I've had, not even close to the worst, and ultimately satifying. Fries were a bit bland and I could've used more russian dressing. My wife enjoy her burger, and my son enjoyed his chicken and french fries. Egg cream was good as well, and the portions were formidable. A good dining experience all around. read more

The Best Diner that ever was. I am here religiously every week. The fresh blueberry pancakes are famous for a reason. The cappuccino is art and delicious. I have never had a bad meal here. The staff is friendly and service is always quick and efficient. It's usually very busy in here but you can still have conversations without a problem. Don't get discouraged if there is a line. The staff was friendly and helpful. The waitress offered sauces, checked in with us, and was helpful in helping us decide on our orders. The diner was bright with lots of windows. Starting off, the Soup du Jour (Chicken Noodle Soup) was hot and made me feel nostalgic. The Seafood Platter had huge portions of creamed spinach, sweet potato fries, and fried fish. It was my first time trying fried scallops, but it was amazing. All the fried seafood had a good crisp. The Cookies and Cream milkshake with additional thickness came with an extra cup of milkshake to the side, which was so nice. Dipping the sweet potato fries in the milkshake made them taste almost like funnel cake. read more

My family has been going to the Laurel Diner since it was The Laurel Luncheonette. My mom went as a kid visiting from "The City," and now she's the "mayor." We walk in, 5 different people greet her by first name. It's been remodeled, but kept the old style art-deco interior and is just great for service, food, and a great cup of coffee! I never know what I'm going to order, but as a vegetarian, I have so many choices! You never know who may walk in, maybe native son, Billy Crystal, or your neighbor from down the block. I've asked over and over for fresh bacon on my burger, and it's like nobody's listening. Every time, it's the same old, stale, chewy stuff. It's lazy, plain and simple. You've got a good diner here, but this one sloppy detail makes me not want to order from you anymore. Fresh bacon isn't hard, and it shouldn't be a special request. This is a 5 star diner! Impeccably clean with updated seating. They sell candy in the front which is cute and nostalgic- I ended up buying two individual york peppermint patties my daughter's favorite for a quarter each. Me and my husband both had salads which were so fresh and delicious and huge! I feel embarrassed that I ate all of mine! Service was on point and friendly. You can't go wrong coming here - this is the second time I came to this diner based on my first experience. This time was better than before. I had an arugula salad with salmon and the salmon was cooked perfectly crunchy on the outside and drizzled with my favorite balsamic vinegar. The slivered almonds mixed with the arugula made it heaven. Who says eating healthy can't be delicious! We ended up at the Laurel Diner for a very quick breakfast bite after watching the sunrise on the Long Beach boardwalk. We walked in and got seated immediately, though it was (an albeit) early Sunday morning (just about 8am). I had the Nutella French which was HUGE, but very delicious. Not sure what bread they use for this particular French toast, but I think it was challah bread. I couldn't finish the whole thing, and the Nutella (of course) just hit the spot with its delicious hazelnutty decadence. Hubby had some perfectly crispy Belgian waffles. The coffee was great too. Good and quick service. The only expected and dreadful downfall of any dining these days is really the price for me - an almost $50 bill (with tax and tip included) for 2 breakfasts and coffee is outrageous. The Laurel was much better in the '90s and early 2000s. The renovations look great and it maintains that classic diner vibe. The service is fine, but the food doesn't match the price you're paying. Upon entering on a Sunday morning, there was a line, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. This is your classic New York diner, and the food is as expected. The food is very down home, our omelets were cooked a little more than we prefer, but the food was good, loved the bagels and service was very good. This is not the run of the mill diner. The place is extremely clean, servers friendly and very accommodating with "adjustments" to menu items and the food is well above average. The chicken salad sandwich visit was the first of 4 visits. My wife, rarely adventurous, ordered liver and onions on the recommendation of the server. She said she wouldn't hesitate to order it again. Soups, like chicken noodle and split pea were hearty and truly tasted homemade. Pickles and coke slaw placed in the table along with the menus. I used to be a frequent visitor to the Laurel during high school. When I left for college and eventually graduate school, I often craved their pancakes and hamburgers. This was a staple of my dining diet. I was back in the area connecting with a local friend this weekend and decided to try my favorite place. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was a bit execrable. A very friendly hostess greeted us. We sat at the diner bar. While the restaurant is not the biggest, and I was used to this, I felt the section we were in was crammed. A waiter dropped a glass no more than a few inches from my friend. We were unable to get anybody's attention to request to move, so we decided to stay. Upon ordering, I got an English muffin and my friend an omelette. Food came out pretty fast; however, my friend had found his omelette to be cold and soggy. My English muffin was okay and nothing too special, but it certainly appeased my hunger. What really turned me off was the service while paying. I was not greeted by the gentleman at the front at all and he simply said, in a very snappy tone, "cash or credit." I replied with credit and inserted it. While it was in the terminal, I asked if I could put tip in the plastic jar next to the machine to which he replied "No! On table or card." He was extremely hostile, and all I asked was about leaving tip money. My friend found him extremely disrespectful too. He leaned over, hit something on the machine and said, "Leave the money where you were sitting" as if he was ordering me to do so. I love this spot but the attitude was very rude. First time going and it won't be my last. It was crowded but we were seated right away. Everyone was very nice and the waiter and busboy were extremely attentive the entire time. Anything but leisurely. Beside us was a table with disinterested mothers on cell phones while their loud undisciplined children were under the table and about, disturbing all. Even staff was distracted. Made the entire breakfast unpleasant. At some point the manager or owner should have intervened. The rude parent seemed to know others in the diner, suggesting that they may be regulars. Will not return unless locusts devour all other sources of sustenance.
