Came for breakfast during covid time. Sat outside. Uncomfortable chairs. Coffee cup is tiny so get ready to have 5 refills (and not great - half and half helped ) Omelet was delicious and chocolate chip pancakes were fabulous. The rising costs of business and property values along with the current Instagram age has slowly been killing the traditional diner as most are being sold, or transformed into more upscale/trendy spots as people's taste change. It is comforting to see an old school diner such as Venus surviving, and judging by the times I have been in, thriving! The decor, the dinnerware, the silverware and probably most of the staff have not changed in decades. This place is becoming my go to for weekend breakfast when I don't feel like cooking at home, or waiting on a long line. Another plus is that Venus doesn't try to bust you out for the usual omelets, pancakes, french toast, and other breakfast fare. I probably spend about a 1/3 less than the same dishes elsewhere. There is plenty of parking here, and larger than it seems on the inside. The staff here has always been friendly and efficient. What else can I say - a good, all around diner! read more

Just wanted everyone to know that the food is top notch here and the service is great. It is a smaller business that my Uncle frequented on mornings for many years. He passed recently and when approached for a memorial lunch they pulled out all the stops to serve 40 plus people. They were genuine in their condolences to the family which was so appreciated. Returned for a second time before we leave. Food was excellent - freshly prepared and cooked quickly. Service was also excellent with the waiter having a full knowledge of the menu. Good food and fast service but our waitress kept taking her mask off when talking to us and when leaning over us. She made me feel very unsafe and uncomfortable. I leaned away from her and she finally put it back on, but it should be common sense during these times to keep your customers safe. Very unprofessional and reckless. This place is amazing! My mom introduce me to this little diner and I'm just blown away by how cozy this place is with the normal diner aesthetic of the past. It's nice compared and I love coming here for the amazing burgers and onion rings! If you ever get stuck, onion rings here are the one of the best options before starting your meal. I've found myself constantly coming back to this place and the staff is so friendly and I just feel so welcomed compared to others I've been too. Ive eaten here many times, I can see the persons that work the kitchen currently cannot keep up with keeping the kitchen clean based on the health dept review. I used to work next door, I used to live across the street on adams avenue. I enjoyed being served by the finest ladies like Dottie. Came back to Venus once at night I got chicken with melted mozz on garlic bread and my fiance got a chicken souvlaki. Both of us were not impressed. I feel bad for not liking this place but we gave it a few times and were disappointed each time. The chicken was weird. Almost seemed fake and chewy in a weird marinade with oregano or something. Reminded me of something you would buy in BJs pre marinated and gross. It was nothing special. My fiance couldn't finish his because he didn't like all the fat and grizzle. We ended the night with baklava to go. Unedible. I almost went back because it tasted tainted. Like vinegar was poured on it or it was sitting out in heat. It was bad. The owner (woman) is one of the most miserable looking, unfriendly people in the universe. I went in here a few times and sat at the counter and no matter how you smile at her or God forbid , try to get her attention if you need something , she just doesn't engage......Just walks around looking thoroughly miserable. My server just disappeared after putting my food down and this restaurant is old and run down with sub-par food; Had the owner been friendly and the server efficient, I would have been willing to overlook the other stuff and would have returned the few times a week I have business in West Hempstead. I ask for toast, it came as if it was taken out of the bag. Even the coffee is bad! If you're going to serve poor quality food, at least figure out how to cook it to make is somewhat edible. I can't understand how other people give this place more than 1 star. I've eaten there more than once, giving it a chance, it's convenient, but after so many chances, it just becomes apparent that this place uses garbage quality food AND can't find a cook that knows how to make pancakes. It's not so easy to find a Greek diner experience anymore but this place nails it! Very clean, well-spaced tables, prompt service. I had the "Venus Panini" - grilled chicken, feta and spinach. It came perfectly salted, not too much. The feta was soft but not dripping. The spinach had some texture to it. Great mid-day sandwich. I recommend this place. read more

This place always made the best Greek salad. I ordered 3 large ones to go but very disappointed. There was hardly any feta cheese, my salad didn't have any olives and the other 2 had one olive each. All the people I take here that didn't grow up with Venus think it's just "OK". That truly upsets me because I think Venus rocks!
