We sat outside, on the porch and under the misters, on a Friday night. The lighting and live music -- performed by Alexis -- were beautiful. The vibe was friendly and fun. The founder introduced herself to us, and the manager even helped my mom down the stairs. He was incredibly thoughtful. The food was PHENOMENAL. We had the oxtail, fish, burger, whipped goat cheese, piri piri wings, and pound cake. All of it was delicious and beautiful to behold. And the purple rum punch? Don't even get me started. The food at Latha is top tier. Great flavors and new options regularly. The services has been pleasant every time. They have music sometimes with a dj and a small shop in back to explore. The only thing I could think to mention negatively would be the food portions are not big. So you do have to order a lot of food if you are really hungry. So if you are a person who typically only orders an entree you would need appetizer and entree to be full, but the menu is pricey so proceed with caution. read more

This was a fun restaurant! It had a great atmosphere and fun food choices. The food is not too strange to scare anyone from eating there. I think a picky eater would be fine. I tried the WHIPPED GOAT CHEESE with black garlic honey, radishes, sumac, and chapati, AZ WILD SHRIMP CO. ESCABECHE with avocado, tostones, and lime, GRILLED LEMON CHICKEN with noodles, spinach, mushrooms and lemon and ETHIOPIA JENNY drink, it's almost like a Moscow Mule, sweet by the fruit. An absolutely incredible culinary experience. Everything we ate and drank was so delicious. We ordered Piri Piri wings, the whipped goat cheese, fish of the day, oxtail barbacoa and the main chicken dish. The goat cheese app was the best goat cheese we've EVER had and we couldn't stop talking about it all night. The cocktails were so unique and flavorful. This was an excellent surprise for me during Restaurant Week! I will definitely be coming back. The place is small inside but lots of space outside on a gorgeous patio for a cooler evening, tastefully decorated and the staff so accomodating. It was a busy night but they took the time to explain the dishes. And the dishes ... so flavourful and unique combinations of savoury and sweet. They even have a store front with local artisans and lots of unique West African gifts. Rhythmic African music gently played in the background, which had me swaying the whole time. Service: 3.8 You can tell the wait staff is new, so they were lacking the flow and finesse of most restaurants but they were so sweet, you just kind of overlook it and show some grace because we want to see more diversity like this in AZ!!! Plus, they are newly opened, so it only up from here! Food: 4 Unique flavors. I just want to srat off by saying as a Nigerian I am ridiculously picky when it comes to African food so let's begin. We had the piri piri wings and the summer corn & feta. Both were good..don't forget to squeeze the lemon on the wings..it makes a big flavor difference! Our main dishes were the Flavorful Suya Flank Steak and the BerBere Chicken. The greens were a bit salty for me, and the Chicken was not my favorite, but that may have been because I split it with my sister.. I think i needed the entire dish to give it a higher mark. The Steak was definitely the winner! Overall, I would give them a 4.5 if I could for the warm and welcoming atmosphere and hope to come back and try out more of the menu. Well, everything is well balanced, strong, and refreshing on a hot Phoenix summer day, but our table put away quite a few passion fruit mojitos, which were absolutely incredible. For a main I tried the shrimp moqueca, which is beautiful buttery grits, fresh snappy shrimp, charred broccolini, and the most delicious rich, almost peanutty sauce you could imagine. I had never heard of this place until a friend of mine invited me to brunch here. This place is super cute and the food is really good. The customer service was good as well, one of the owners made it her business to see that all of her guests were taken care of. If you decide that you want to try them out, beware of the parking. It's located downtown Phoenix on the corner and there isn't much in the way of parking. There's a small, very small parking lot across the street. So if you are lucky enough to snag a spot, you are doing well and can head in to enjoy a scrumptious meal. If you are unlucky to get a spot in the lot, well I don't know what to tell you, I guess there's parking somewhere lol. However, the atmosphere of the place is so nice that you'll forget that you at the unfortunate luck of walking from your car from where ever you parked. We went here after being told the wait for Pizzeria Bianco was 2-3 hours. They had a live band playing outside and had a table set up for us outside right away with heaters. The owner met us out front and offered to give us a tour. The service and hospitality was amazing. The ambiance and vibe of the entire place made it one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. I would have thought we were in New Orleans or even Berkeley with how it made us feel. The food was amazing. The whipped goat cheese, steak and pork were must haves. I wish they had a location in California closer to us. Was thinking about how great of a time we had there the entire trip home. Please support this great business. We actually ended up going pizzeria bianco the next day and it definitely didn't live up to the hype and was not worth a 2-3 hour wait. It really was a godsend that they had that long of a wait and we ended up eating at Latha instead. Save your night and just go to Latha. Go to the other location of pizzeria bianco instead. Since I moved to Phoenix, Latha is my favourite restaurant. The moqueca is amazing and my favourite. The caipirinha is made with one of the most traditional Brazilian cachaças.
