Great authentic Cuban restaurant. Our server Lapita was so nice and attentive. The restaurant was very busy but patience paid off. This food was amazing! The decor was vibrant, fun and really felt like you stepped into a lil part of Cuba. Empanada-very good, like yum! Croquettes- good- not my fav but good. Yuca frita- umm just delicious! Yuca rellena - different but good! Papa rellena- again different but good. Tamal Cuban- good, different but good Traditional Cuban Sandwich **must have** loaded with meat and flavor I'm glad I tried things I did not know. UPDATE: Sadly, the Owner of Las Palmas, Edna G., continues to post to my original review (see below). Yelp Friends, in over 10 years of posting reviews, I have never seen a poor response like hers. The true shame is her inability to move on. The further shame is the lack of palatable food at this establishment. Edna, your employees have my sympathies if THIS is how you respond to visitors of your restaurant. Again, this Owner continues to post to my review due to her inability to process one bad review. You need this, poor Edna, so here it is...you win. You have $20 of my money. And now, because of your consistent harassment, my commitment to warning other patrons about not just the poor dining experience but your troublesome leadership. Karma indeed... Having read the response from the Owner, I'm not surprised they were so defensive but that they would assume trying to berate a first-time patron, who was only being honest about her first visit, was the best route. A resounding NO. I waited months to try Las Palmas after moving to Mt. Dora. Now I know why. Hugely disappointing experience and I will never return. The server was nice enough, but after ordering a basic Cuban sandwich with "seasoned" fries I sat waiting for almost 20 minutes before getting my food. They are currently looking for kitchen help, so okay delay. When I finally did get my food it was mediocre at best. A bland Cuban sandwich is enough to make any Hispanic sad. The "seasoned" fries? Seasoned with...banality. I didn't even taste salt, but noticed there sure seemed to be enough oil on my plate under the fries. But the nail in the coffin (shudder) was, as I was preparing to leave, seeing a large cockroach on the dining room floor. I pointed it out to my server, left the other half of the unfinished Cuban in the takeout container on the table and walked out. They got $19 from me today - they'll never get another dime. Yes - love me some Cuban Food. Las Palmas is an authentic Cuban spot right in downtown Mount Dora. Our server provided perhaps the most gentle and kindest service I have ever experienced. The place always seems to have a crowd, which speaks well of the restaurant. The prices are affordable and the portion sizes are large. Your meal starts with some warm Cuban bread. Oh! How delicious. For my main entrée, I choose the picadillo - a classic Cuban comfort food - served with rice and beans. I absolutely loved it; the meat was so well seasoned. There was so much food, I couldn't even finish everything on my plate. They also have these cute tropical drinks, and the ambiance overall is casual and laidback. This was our first time visiting Mount Dora and we found ourselves drawn into Las Palmas by the menu and cool vibes. We sat inside because it was a hot day but would have loved to sit outside. Las Palmas is on a corner of the Main Street and there is outside seating on both streets of the corner. Everyone was friendly but a server was fantastic! The drinks were freshly made and delicious. I stopped for a Cuban espresso. First off was told couldn't seat me inside, sat outside for it, hostess comes said I would have to have it in a to go cup. I said don't want it in a to go cup, told me sit at the bar you can have it there. Go to the bar it's so crowded that it feels like you are sitting on the people at the tables behind you. Only two stools open one next to the wall and can't get to it because of the tables and the other between a couple and two ladies, same issue I either had to go over a table to get to it or have the ladies at the bar get up for me to be able to get to the seat. This restaurant has great food and is very consistent. There are several great choices for appetizers, drinks and entrees. My daughter likes the chicken mofongo. And I like the shredded pork that comes covered with onions and comes two sides. I had black beans, yellow rice and plantains. The food comes out promptly and hot. The passion fruit mojoito and Pina colada were excellent. Good service, great food, good portions and if you sit by the window it is good view of the visitors. I got a chance to come in after work and sit at the bar. They have all the Cuban seats and decor all over the restaurant. I ordered a tall Modelo Especial. That ice cold mug with Modelo Especial hit the spot. I ordered a Cuban Sandwich and Fries. Like always, the Cuban Sandwich and Fries are great. I didn't leave anything behind. The service was good. One of our favorites so we come here a lot. My favorite items to order are the mango margarita , cafe con leche, ropa vieja, and flan! Tonight we all order items to share ( minus the wine of course because yea... no! lol ) Cuban sandwich was delicious per usual, tostones were full of flavor and my first time ordering the mofongo. From the small Cuban breads with sauces to the delicious cocktails, it's always great! The atmosphere makes you feel like you're in a small town Cuban restaurant. Amazing Cuban food. Mount Dora is blessed with a place like this that makes excellent Cuban sandwiches and sandwiches from the Caribbean. The ambience is extremely attractive with all kinds of memorabilia of Cuba before Castro. If you come here, ask for Camilo to serve you. The decor they have in this restaurant is unique with all their chairs having been carved wood by a craftsman. What a wonderful experience both Julie and Camilo gave us. Stopped by Las Palmas for dinner and this place was packed. The server was very friendly and immediately gave us the drink specials which we took advantage of the 2 for 1 mojitos. They serve you complementary Cuban bread, and we also ordered the fresh plantain chips which were delicious and crispy. They come with a garlic sauce that tastes so good you want to drink it. We ordered several different dishes, and with the restaurant being so busy we received our food relatively fast. Everything was flavorful and good portion sizes, many of us had to get Togo containers. The inside of the restaurant is on the smaller side but they do provide plenty of outside seating. Also their pricing was cheaper than average Cuban restaurants and they had a a lot of variety of dishes to choose from. If you are visiting the Mount Dora area, this is definitely a spot you need to check out. read more

We had lunch here after spending the morning fishing. We started with the Tostones Rellenos - they were delicious. The plantain cups were crispy & each held 2 shrimp. We got the creole sauce & it was so flavorful. We shared the veggie fajitas & they also were delicious. The corn mixed in was a nice touch (different from the Mexican ones I've had). Beautiful Authentic looking Cuban Restaurant with high prices for mediocre food. Other than the delicious cafe con leche, dining here was an unmitigated disaster as we left with both empty stomachs and empty wallets. The chicken soup had a reasonably good base taste but the uneven temperature, as if it was freshly microwaved, kept us from enjoying it. The presentation of the Havanas Tapas was downright frightening, think school lunches, see picture, and unfortunately the taste was even worse, because the tostones underneath were not freshly cooked so they took on foreign flavors. Unfortunately, even my child left hungry as the grilled cheese was made with such poor quality cheese that it hardened, think rock like, before he could eat it. The easiest question of the night was if we wanted a box for all of the food we didn't eat. Of course the answer was no, perhaps instead, they should have asked if we wanted a seasick bag. read more

Food and drinks were dreadful. We ordered their specialty drinks and they tasted like juice with no alcohol. The food was very greasy with little flavor. To top things off, the service was awful. Along with Copacabana, down the street, Las Palmas is the tag team twin of crappy Cuban, unless you're from a town in the Midwest that's thousands of miles from a Cuban. Then it's BRILLIANT. More watery Cuban coffee, but, at least they know that a cortadito has milk and sugar. We ordered the whole fish. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. After 45 minutes, and four promises that it would be our "any minute," this five minute fry was clearly a dropped ball in the kitchen. We gave up. As we tried to leave they hurried one out that was over fried and burnt. The manager asked if I wanted to take it with me. I wasn't sure if he was trying to make me happy or hide the evidence from the Cuban Food Crimes unit of the International Criminal Culinary Court at the Haig. We sat outside with our dog. Inside it was packed like a bus station with awful ventilation. Server was very sweet. She tried to buy our drinks. Had to take the rap for the kitchen. I tipped her anyway. I have been craving Cuban Food for awhile, I looked on Yelp and found 4 places within a hour driving distance with 3 of the 4 in Mt Dora. Took a nice Sunday /Mother's Day drive to Mt Dora and it was a busy day for the area and Las Palmas was packed however I was able to get a table in 10 minutes with inside seating. Las Palmas has outdoor seating available but it was HOT!!! Once seated at a window 1/2 booth/table, our server came to greet us and take drink orders. Sorry only Pepsi products but a full bar is available. Ordered my favorite Cuban dish - Garlic/Onion Fried Pork Chunks and for Las Palmas - Masitas de Puerco al Ajillo is it. Not the best I've had but pretty darn good. The pork was nicely fried while still being tender and lots of flavor, it was missing the garlic sauce usually covering the pork pieces but did have sautéed onions. Also ordered was the Vaca Frita, the shredded beef was crispy a bit dry but still tasted good. All entrees are served with complimentary rice and 2 sides - our table ordered fries, black beans Tostones and yellow rice - all very tasty. Even though there was some misses it was a holiday the restaurant was packed and the kitchen was probably very busy I would still return. A nice little touch the restaurant did was pass out a single rose to all the mothers and there was an array of Mother's Day balloons throughout the tables. read more
