My wife and I have been to Angela's before, for lunch and to pick up yummy pastries. This time we stopped by for breakfast after my wife's early morning dental cleaning appointment. When we walked in, the place was quite busy with diners with most looking like they were enjoying their Cuban breakfast sandwich. My wife and I opted to order the Breakfast Combo #1, which came with eggs, choice of protein, hash browns, Cuban toast and a small cafe con leche. My wife went with sausage and I opted for bacon...this was after the lady behind the counter dissuaded me from ordering combo #2 (guess she's not a fan of the tomato sauce). We also ordered a couple of guava and cheese turnovers for a snack later. Breakfast was OK. Wished the eggs were fluffier but they were fine. The buttery Cuban toast was good and so were the cafe con leche...wished the coffee size was bigger. The biggest disappointment was the bacon, if you can call it that. When I first saw the bacon, I thought it looked odd...and my suspicions were confirmed when I bit into and tasted it. The texture was off and it had no flavor. Perhaps it was turkey bacon or vegetarian bacon, either way I wasn't informed that the bacon would be some weird facsimile of bacon. Surprised the lady behind the counter didn't try to convince me to change my choice of meat. We'll probably go back for breakfast but will definitely avoid ordering that strange bacon. Breakfast for 2 with the turnovers and tip cost just under $30. read more

We've been visiting this place since the previous owners, and we still love it. The food and sandwiches are great, and the pastries and croquetas are always a treat. It's a perfect spot for a quick breakfast or lunch. It's a true local hangout, and the staff knows many customers by name--which is really nice to see these days. Whilst visiting the local DMV my daughter and I stopped in to grab breakfast. From the outside it just says "Bakery", but step inside and you are transported to a Cuban bakery in Miami! I ordered their omelette sandwich and a cortadito. My daughter order toasted Cuban bread , and ham croquettes.(She's a bit of connoisseur) The cortadito was on point and just what the doctor ordered! Oh, how I have missed a good cortadito! My sandwich was made to order and it came out pipping hot! The staff is friendly and the vibe feels like being in a bakery in Miami! Cuban sandwich looked great but wasn't hot had cold spots in center and the bacon with my breakfast plate was not real bacon but maybe turkey bacon? It was cold stretchy and tough to chew I left most of it. Eggs over greasy. Fries good. Cuban bread and cafe con leche was great. Arrived at 2:18 and told that the "Skillets were cleaned and closed for the day". When I told her we had called and driven all the way from Bushnell after calling to confirm breakfast all day, she copped an attitude saying "what time did you call"? It doesn't matter what time I called. The photo shows how at 2:30 the woman's companion had put all the chairs up on the tables even though another several patrons came in. It's RARE for me to post a negative review. Sadly, this one was well deserved. Shame on you counter lady Alieta of Mary's Cuban Kitchen. I requested the name and phone number of the owners of the Cafe and we plan to call them to share our experience. Please note that the Kitchen staff was VERY nice and after one of us sent the eggs back because they were too runny, actually came out to make sure that they were right the second time. The food is delicious but rushing clients out 40 minutes before closing time is unacceptable. As long as they have counter attendants like Alieta, like I will not return. UPDATE: received a telephone call from restaurant owner who took interest in our experience described above. Said he wants to find out what happened and make it right. I thanked Tom for his courtesy and his interest and assured him that I don't need anything to make it right because we love the restaurant and the food. It tasted smoky with a weird ham in it. Awful. Could not eat it and discarded it immediately. Even the Pastelitos were off including the empanada. Flavors just weren't right. I have been planning on eating here for quite some time but every time I come here they're closed. You can imagine my excitement when I finally made it at a time they were open. No one in town makes a medianoche because they don't carry the bread so I knew that was exactly what I wanted. My craving was more than satisfied when I ate all I could. (left overs for later). The price was on point and the gentleman up front as welcoming and helpful. There was also a young lady in the back that seemed to be cooking everything and the two of them worked well together. Even late in the day they were doing a good business and I already know they have wholesale pastry accounts in town to prepare to cook for. Their steam table of lunch meals looks yummy and you need to get here before 4:00 for it. Now that I finally have their hours straight I know I'll be a regular. This was a terrible Cuban sandwich. We asked for a side of fries, and they just threw them on the sandwich. Overall the sandwich was dry, so make sure you are asking for extra dressing. We shared the Picadillo, Chicken Fricasse, Tostones, plantains, congri rice, yellow rice, red beans, and sopa. All was delicious. Great gem in Marion county! Traveling for work it's hard to find a place you can trust but I would definitely come back. The beef empanada was melt in your mouth good, the tres leches was the best I've had in a long time, and the beans and rice were very authentic. My mother and I tried their lunch specials. I had the ropa vieja with sweet plantains and ordered a side of tostones. My mom had the chicken fa-something with yucca. I can't remember what the chicken was called. My meat portion was plenty and I had some left over, but my mom finished all of her chicken. Both of us had rice and beans to spare. We enjoyed our food. For dessert, we shared a mango shake, tres leches cake, and coconut flan. The shake and flan were super yummy. The tres leches was a little too sweet. It's a nice casual place and they had plenty of regulars returning during our visit. I think my mom will return soon. I would too if I lived around the corner. read more
